Dan Alexander

Arvin Dan Alexander, 83, died Saturday, December 6, 2003, at Carl Vinson VA Hospital in Dublin, Georgia. The Tattnall County native was a U. S. Army veteran, and a member of Collins Baptist Church. He was a former Civil Service employee, had served as a Tattnall County Commissioner, and was a former member of the Tattnall County Health Board. He previously owned and operated a service station and garage and a restaurant in Collins. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dana A. McDaniel.
He is survived by his wife, Joann Alexander of Collins; one daughter, Gale Blazek of Kingsland; one son, Dale Alexander of Collins; two grandsons, Brett McDaniel and Richard Alexander; one stepdaughter, Joan Galbreath of Montgomery County; and three stepgrandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 8, at Collins Baptist Church, with the Rev. Calvin Durrence officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Dean Collins, J. E. Stanfield, G. W. Thompson, Tony Hutcheson, Frank Murphy, and Jerry Alexander.
Honorary pallbearers were Bobby McDaniel, James Morris, Charlie Anderson, Jack Boyette, Cornelius Costen, Ansley Jordan, Franklin Mack, and Marquette Waters.
Cobb Funeral Home of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Billy Helsabeck, Sr.

Billy B. Helsabeck, Sr., 85, died Saturday, December 7, 2002, at his residence under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Jacksonville, Florida, native had lived in Florida and Alabama, moving to Glennville, Georgia, three years ago. He retired as vice president and manager of Kingsley Lake Resort in Starke, Florida. He was a P.O.W., a veteran of World War II, and a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Helsabeck of Glennville; two sons, Billy B. Helsabeck, Jr., of Pompano Beach, Florida, and Charles R. Helsabeck of Orlando, Florida; four stepchildren: Nancy Martinez of Glennville; Norma Welch of Thomasville; Narvie Seals of Seattle, Washington; and Neal Seals of Hinesville; one brother, Kenneth Helsabeck of Keystone Heights, Florida; one sister, Doris D. Hewitt of Keystone Heights, Florida; 16 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 10, at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville, Georgia, with military honors. Burial was in Starke, Florida.

Valerie Waters

Valerie Oliver Waters, 79, died Saturday, December 7, 2002, at Glenvue Nursing Home in Glennville, Georgia. She was a lifelong resident of Tattnall County, and a member of Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church. She was a homemaker, and a loving mother.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Glenda and Louis Geiger and Rhonda Waters of Glennville; one son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Susan Waters of Glennville; one brother, Theron Oliver of Hinesville, Georgia; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 10, at 11 a.m. at Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder W. H. Durrence officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert Oliver, Brian Blocker, Richie Waters, Rafe Waters, Bruce Oliver, and Greg Lewis.
Remembrances can be made to the Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Building Fund.

Annette Oglesby

Annette Kicklighter Oglesby, 63, died Friday, December 6, 2002, in the Appling County Healthcare System. The Long County native had lived in Tattnall County and in Baxley, Georgia, for the past 46 years. She was a member of Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
She is survived by her mother, Julia Ann Kicklighter of Glennville, Georgia; two daughters, Joni Murray of Surrency and Debbie Fordham of Faulkville; two sisters, Linda Kicklighter of Baxley and Margie Wedincamp of Glennville; five grandchildren: Briana Murray and Brandon Murray of Surrency and Ben Fordham, Hannah Fordham, and Eli Fordham of Faulkville; and four nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 9, at 2 p.m. at Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church, officiated by Elder Scott Williams and Elder Jimmy Haire. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Richie Kicklighter, Jessie Weaver, Jessie Murray, Darrell Rogers, Franklin Kicklighter, David Cole, and Edward Oglesbee.
Honorary pallbearers were the Holland Music Place Singers, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mosley, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Lee, Mr. and Mrs. Lemmon McCorckle, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Tillman, Mr. and Mrs. Buzzy Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Short Reeves, Lucille Campbell, Lola and Rhonda Beecher, and Clayton Harper.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
Swain Funeral Home of Baxley, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Grady DeLoach

Grady F. “Buck” DeLoach, 75, died Wednesday, December 4, 2002, at his home under the care of Ogeechee Hospice after an extended illness. He was a native of Glennville, Georgia, and a long-time resident of Garden City, Georgia. He was retired from Union Camp after 40 years of service, and was an avid gardener, beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Tillie DeLoach of Glennville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Carl Stellies of Springfield and Lisa and Derek Maskevich of Richmond Hill; two sons, L. G. “Gross” DeLoach of Bloomingdale and Wayne DeLoach of Garden City; one sister, Ora Jean Kniphfer of Savannah; two brothers, Barney DeLoach and Barron DeLoach, both of Savannah; five grandchildren: Phillip DeLoach, Tony DeLoach, Shanda Denham, Ashley DeLoach, and Miranda Maskevich; three great-grandchildren: Britney DeLoach, Angel Denham and Angela Denham; and caregivers Lorene Gunter and Lucy Walden.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 7, at 2 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Elder Scott Williams officiating. Burial was in Beards Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Danny Watson, Mike Lamb, B. J. Haire, Randy Wilson, Kenneth Tapley, and Robbie Durrence.

Dorothy S. Banks

Dorothy Stubbs Banks, 73, died Monday, November 21, 2005, at Memorial Health University Medical Center. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville all her life. She was Valedictorian of the Glennville High School Class of 1949, and attended Georgia Teachers College. She was employed by the Tattnall County Board of Education for 29 years, and served as Poll Officer with the Tattnall County Board of Elections for 40 years. She was a member of Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church, the Senior Adult Bible Study Class, and the Ladies Day Circle. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Larry W. Banks, and a son, Joseph Eben Banks.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Debbie Banks and Kenny and Maggie Banks, all of Glennville; one sister, Loutrell S. Futch of Glennville; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 25, at Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Summerford officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Wayne Brewton, Dale Guy, Eddie Banks, Brian Durrence, Jeff Banks, and Francis Stubbs.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Mellie Ruth Burke

Mellie Ruth Kicklighter Burke, 96, died Monday, November 28, 2005, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville all her life. She was a retired schoolteacher with the Tattnall County School System for 31 years, a member of Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church, the Ladies' Circle, and the Eastern Star.
She is survived by a special niece, Kathleen Kicklighter Kirkland of Glennville; and several other nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, at Beards Creek Church Cemetery, with Elder W. H. Durrence officiating.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.

Thelma Culver

Thelma Barnhill Kirby Culver, 89, died Tuesday, November 22, 2005, at Habersham House under the care of Hospice. The Tattnall County native was the daughter of Archie L. and Leila Todd Barnhill, and a member of Burkhalter Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by husbands, Walter Kirby and Grady Culver.
She is survived by one sister, Juanita Phillips of Richmond Hill; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville chapel, with the Rev. Truett Leveritt officiating. Burial was in Harmony United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gary Branch, Ralph Clark, Brian Feus, Carl Feus, Jeffrey Feus, and Dennis Phillips.
Remembrances can be made to Spanish Oaks Hospice, Inc., 8510 Whitfield Avenue, Savannah, Georgia, 31406.

The Rev. Wilton Ray

The Rev. Wilton Ray, 77, died Wednesday, November 23, 2005. The Tattnall County native served as pastor of Poplar Head Baptist Church for 35 years. He was a Korean War veteran, and a retired U. S. Postal worker. He was preceded in death by two infant sons.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Willene B. Ray of Glennville; a son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Jeanette Ray of Glennville; a brother and sister-in-law, Doyle and Jeannette Ray of Glennville; grandchildren: Jason Ray of New Haven, Connecticut; Justin Ray of Branden, Florida; Jessica (William) Nasnolts of Ansbach, Germany; Joshua Ray of Athens; and Jenna Ray of Macon.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 26, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville chapel, conducted by Dr. Hugh Harris and the Rev. Tommy W. Ray. Burial was in Watermelon Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Justin Ray, Joshua Ray, Michael Jones, Edward Wells, Walter Ray, and Ronnie Barnard.
Remembrances can be made to the Poplar Head Baptist Church Building Fund, 68 Manous Circle, Hinesville, Georgia 31313.

Robert "Bill" Stafford

Robert "Bill" Stafford, 73, died Wednesday morning, November 23, 2005, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia. The Laurens County native had lived in Collins all his life. He was a member of Collins Baptist Church.
He is survived by four sisters and brothers-in-law: Betty Holland of Collins; Louise and David Harvey of Reidsville; Lynda and Zane Phillips of Harvest, Alabama; and Gail and Greg Jacobson of Chico, California; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 26, at Collins Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Alan McCoy. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were nephews and great-nephews.
Memorials can be made to Collins Baptist Church or to the charity of donor's choice.
