Robert L. Holmes
Robert L. Holmes, 79, of Lyons, died Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at Meadows Regional Medical Center after a short illness. He was a native of Laurens County but had lived in Toombs County for 38 years. He was retired from the Navy and served in the Korean War and World War II. He was retired from the restaurant business as owner of "The Bulldog Restaurant.” He was a past City Councilman of Lyons, and a member of Lyons First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Sharpe Holmes of Lyons; one son, Stanley Holmes of Columbia, South Carolina; one daughter, Jeanette Lewis of Twin City; three stepsons, Wilbur Strickland of Lyons, Harold Strickland of Vidalia, and Greg Strickland of Claxton; one stepdaughter, Jean Haire of Clinton, Missouri; two grandchildren; ten stepgrandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral service were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 15, at Lyons First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Danny Williams officiating. Interment was in Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Tori Lake and infant daughter, Tara
Megan Victoria "Tori” Lake, 17, and infant daughter, Tara, died unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, December 21, 2004. Known as "Tori” to family and friends, she is preceded in death by a grandfather, Stacy Lake. She was born January 23, 1987, and lived in the Atkinson community. She attended Brantley County High School and was involved in many school activities. She was baptized June 18, 1999, during Georgia Junior Camp of the Church of God of Prophecy.
She is survived by her mother, Mabel B. Lake of Atkinson; her father, Merrill Lake of Raybon; one sister and brother-in-law, Tracie and Chris Miller; and a very special nephew, Preston Miller, all of Twin Rivers; her grandparents, Wright and Beatrice Blocker of Glennville and Iris Lake of Raybon; and many other friends and relatives.
Joint funeral services were held in the Joel Chambless Funeral Home chapel at 2 p.m. Friday, December 24, with the Rev. E. H. Morgan and the Rev. Sheldon Rowell officiating. Interment was in Rob Lewis Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rodney Jacobs, Danny Strickland, Clay Lee, Chris Crews, Mickey Baxley, and Ben Sheppard.

Eugene "Gene" Kicklighter
Eugene "Gene” Kicklighter, 73, died Friday, January 14, 2005, at his residence. The Tattnall County native was a member and a deacon of Glennville First Baptist Church, a member of the Bruce Dubberly Sunday School Class, a Navy veteran, a member of the VFW and American Legion, and a past member of the Glennville Lions Club. For more than 35 years, he enjoyed a career as an insurance agent for Gulf Life/American General Insurance Company. During this time, he received many recognitions and honors. He achieved ‟Agent of the Year” status on numerous occasions. Highlighting his career was his selection by his peers in 1973 as "Man of the Year” for excellence in salesmanship and community service.
He is survived by his wife, Lauree D. Kicklighter of Glennville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Donald Fountain and Carol and Henry Strickland of Glennville; one brother, Demery Kicklighter of Gray; and four grandchildren: Evan and Emily Fountain and Caroline and Catherine Strickland, all of Glennville.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 16, at Glennville First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Keith Rustin and the Rev. Steve Posey officiating. The eulogy was given by Bro. Ralph Bowden. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Heath Dasher, Hugh Thompson, Blake Dasher, Don Driggers, Walt Dasher, and Cale Blocker.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Bruce Dubberly Sunday School Class, employees of American General Insurance Company, and special friends.

Beatrice T. Durrence
Beatrice Tootle Durrence, 94, died early Saturday morning, January 15, 2005, at Tattnall Community Hospital. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville all her life, and was a homemaker. She was a Pink Lady at Glenvue Nursing Home and Tattnall Memorial Hospital for many years. She was a member of the Martha Washington Chapter #384 of the Eastern Star, a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of Reidsville United Methodist Church. She served as State Secretary of the Home Demonstration Club, and enjoyed the outdoors, including entertaining at her river houses. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Hershel Durrence; a granddaughter, Felicia S. Baggett; and a grandson, Henry Durrence.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, June and Dave Smith of Reidsville; a son, Homer Durrence of Reidsville; a sister, Joan Haynes of Fayetteville; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 17, at Reidsville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Donald and the Rev. David Hudson officiating. Interment was in Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dennis Durrence, Lynn Deal, Aaron Glisson, Alan Baggett, Donald Kennedy, and Roger Kennedy, Jr.

Linda S. DeLoach
Linda Sapp DeLoach, 52, died Saturday, January 15, 2005, at her residence. The Evans County native had lived in Glennville most of her life. She was a homemaker, and was preceded in death by her husband, George Gary DeLoach; her father, Clifford Sapp; and a brother, Roland Sapp.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Trevor Tatum of Reidsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Mandy DeLoach of Glennville; her mother, Bertha Sapp of Claxton; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Cathy and Bobby Blocker of Glennville; Brenda and Robert Baggett of Claxton; and Patty and Troy Griffin of Claxton; two brothers and sisters-in-law, C. L. and Libby Sapp of Glennville and Johnny and Cathy Sapp of Claxton; her mother-in-law, Mildred DeLoach Blocker of Glennville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Ronnie and Margie DeLoach, Willie DeLoach, Gerald and Cheryl Blocker, Jan and Danny Foster, and Linda E. DeLoach, all of Glennville; and Winifred and Albert Walker of New Philadelphia, Ohio; three grandchildren: Olivia and Ethan DeLoach and Parker Tatum; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 18, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Lewis Cobb officiating. Burial was in the DeLoach Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Matt DeLoach, Keith DeLoach, Justin Foster, Kevin Dixon, Keith Dixon, and Patrick Griffin.

Ruby Sharpe
Ruby Sharpe, 87, died early Saturday morning, January 15, 2005, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville most of her life, until moving to Long County three years ago. She was a homemaker, and a member of Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Sharpe.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Laverne Iddins of Reidsville and Connie and Jerry Kennedy of Glennville; a son and daughter-in-law, John E. "J. E.” and Fran Sharpe of Midway; a sister, Grace Mosley Parker of Vidalia; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Monday, January 17, with the Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiating. Interment was in Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were nephews.

Bobbie Jean Futch
Bobbie Jean Futch died December 29, 2005, after a short illness. She was born September 16, 1954, to Nathaniel and Ruby West Futch, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Bennie Lee Futch and Chester Futch, and one sister, Joann Futch. She received her education through the Tattnall County School System. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior on October 23, 2005.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Lee Futch of Atlanta; a brother, Jimmie Lee (Bernice) Futch of Chicago, Illinois; three devoted aunts: Ruth Porter, Rita Howard, and Eldra Ruth Futch; a beloved cousin and caregiver, Classine Porter of Glennville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, and friends.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 5, 2006, at St. Jame AME Church in Glennville, with the Rev. Pastor Richie Williams officiating. Interment was in Sandhill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jaquan Bradley, Chester Futch, Narcelles Porter, Anton Bradley, Norman Kennedy, and Jonathan Taylor.
Honorary pallbearers were Stewards and Trustees of St. James AME Church.

Troy Williams
Curtis Troy Williams, 61, of Hoover, Alabama, died December 30, 2005. He was the Associate Pastor of Bessemer Independent Church of God.
He is survived by his wife, Sharron Williams; sons: Christopher Troy (Melissa) Williams, Jeremy Curtis (Lea) Williams, and Michael Williams; daughters, Kelley (Dewitt) Walker and Karron (Jeff) Halvorson; eight grandchildren; brothers, Fred H. Williams and Ricky Bryant; and sisters, Helen Bryant and Rosemerry Buckingham.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. January 6, 2006, at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home in Hueytown, Alabama, with Bro. David McIntyre officiating. Burial was in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Stella M. Braddy
Stella M. Braddy died January 4, 2006. She was the daughter of the late Rena Smith Cummings and North Smith. She received her education in Glennville public schools, graduating from Glennville High School in 1953. Born in Glennville on August 5, 1936, she relocated to Orlando, Florida, for a short period of time. She moved to Miami, Florida, in 1969 where she began a career with the Dade County Public School System (Food Services), in which she retired in June 2002 after 33 years.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lonzo Robinson and Eddie L. Braddy.
She is survived by five sons: Darvin Hudson, Eric Robinson, Lonzo Robinson (Ingrid), Eddie Braddy II, and Theron L. Lewis; three daughters: Sandra Robinson, Carleen Braddy, and Renitha V. Guyton (Costello); one adopted daughter, Marilyn Martin; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many friends.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 14, at Jordon Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Miami, Florida, officiated by senior pastor the Rev. Douglas Cook, Sr.
Dr. C. L. Anderson officiated at graveside services at Greater Zachariah Baptist Church Cemetery on Monday, January 16, at 11 a.m.

Arnie DeLoach
Arnie DeLoach, 95, died Monday, January 16, 2006, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Hospice. The Tattnall County native was a member and a Deacon of Pigott Branch Baptist Church. He was a retired farmer, and a carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lela Mae Fennell DeLoach; a grandson, Danny Thomas; and a son-in-law, Jack D. Tootle.
He is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Earldine D. Tootle and Jackie and Julian Thomas of Glennville; a sister, Minnie Lee Parker of Glennville; two grandchildren, Jennifer T. Mims and Beverly T. Price; five great-grandchildren: Brett Thomas, Drew Thomas, Delaney Mims, Ashley P. Hall, and Lindsay Mims; and one great-great-grandchild, Waylon Thomas.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 18, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville chapel. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.

Billy L. Ryals
Billy L. Ryals, 71, died Saturday, January 14, 2006, at his residence. The Tattnall County native was a U. S. Navy veteran, and a member of Reidsville Baptist Church. He was a former City Councilman, elected in 1985. He was the retired owner of Billy Ryals and Son Body Shop. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy P. Ryals, and a brother, Bernice M. Ryals.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and Hunter Mincey of Collins; his son, Johnny Ryals of Reidsville; a sister, Bobbie Williams of Vidalia; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 16, at Cobb Funeral Home, Reidsville chapel, with the Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiating. Burial was in Reidsville City Cemetery.

Salvador Salmoran
Salvador Rosas Salmoran, 25, died Monday, January 16, 2006, at St. Joseph's Hospital. The native of Mexico attended St. Jude Catholic Church.
He is survived by his mother, Nayra Guadalupe of Glennville; his father, Jose Rosas of Savannah; two sisters, Nayra and Karla; and seven brothers: Omer, Elvis, Julio, Diego, Jose, Miguel, and Jose.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 17, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville chapel. Burial was in Glennville Memorial Gardens.

Irene Smith
Irene Groover Smith, 85, died Thursday, January 12, 2006, at Glenvue Nursing Home. She was born in Tattnall County, moving to Milledgeville in 1939 to attend Georgia Women's College and later Marsh Business College in Atlanta. She was employed for many years with Citizens and Southern National Bank in Atlanta and other banks in California, Texas, and Tennessee. She returned to Glennville in 1961 and opened Smith's Office Supply, and later worked with the Glennville Chamber of Commerce and Welcome Center. She was employed with the Tattnall County Board of Education for six years at Glennville Middle School and six years at Glennville Elementary School. She was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church, and the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Smith Maund.
She is survived by one sister, Thelma Bowen of Glennville; one brother, Olney Groover of Fais Island, South Pacific; two sisters-in-law, Ernestine Groover and Betty Groover, both of Glennville; a granddaughter, Jane Mobley (Wayne) of Glennville; two great-granddaughters, Megan and Jessica Mobley of Glennville; and six nieces and six nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, January 13, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Julian Larsen officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bill Whitlow, John Wilson, Mike Whitlow, Gerald Strickland, Leslie Groover, and Milton Carter.
