Sybil Barnard
Sybil Barnard, 75, died peacefully Sunday morning, December 19, at her residence surrounded by her family. The Tattnall County native had lived in Collins all her life. She was a faithful believer and a member of Full Gospel Tabernacle Church in Collins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Barnard; a son, Johnny Barnard; and a daughter, Geneva Barnard.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Barbara Barnard and Tommy and Diana Barnard, all of Collins; a daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Sam Busby of Reidsville; a sister, Dean Boyett of Collins; three brothers: Jack Dees of Collins, Reginald Dees of Port Wentworth, and Larry Dees of Rome; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 21, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. The Reverends Andrew Nelms, Greg Smith, and Gary Page officiated. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Interment was in Rogers Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Collins.

Catherine Welch
Catherine Iddins Welch, 75, died Thursday, December 16, 2004, at home. She was born in 1929 to Leonard and Alma Purcell Iddins in Tattnall County and lived there most of her life. She was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and attended the Reidsville Congregation.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, H. J. “John” Welch, Jr., of Reidsville; her children, H. J. “Johnny” III and Bridget B. Welch and Allison W. and Dwain Doyle, all of Reidsville; her grandchildren, John A. Welch and Julia B. Welch, both of Reidsville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue Nell Stanfield, Thelma I. and Vernon Cowart, and Clara I. and Jack Welch, all of Reidsville; a brother and sister-in-law, Charlie and Joan Iddins of Doraville; and two sisters-in-law, Ruby Iddins and Laverne Iddins of Reidsville.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 18, at the Reidsville Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Jack Kirkland
Jack Kirkland, 69, of Hawkinsville, Georgia, died December 19, 2003, at his residence. He was a native of Tattnall County, and a member of Broadstreet Baptist Church. He was a retired dry goods manager, the first president of the National Little League Association of Pulaski County, and was a former Touchdown Club president. He was preceded in death by three brothers: Jeff Kirkland, Lyndel Kirkland, and Junior Kirkland.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine D. Kirkland of Hawkinsville; one son, Michael J. Kirkland of Hawkinsville; three daughters: Marsha K. O’Neal (Bryan) of Lawrenceville, Michelle K. Hill (Todd) of Hawkinsville, and Marie R. Davis (Matthew) of Cochran; three sisters: Louise Daniel and Myrna DeLoach, both of Glennville, Georgia; and Lois Durrence of Mendes, Georgia; one sister-in-law, Carolyn Kirkland of Glennville; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 22, at 2 p.m. at Broadstreet Baptist Church, with Dr. Kelly Pritchett, the Rev. Fred McCoy, and Bryan O’Neal officiating. Burial was in Pulaski-Bleckley Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers were Jeffrey Kirkland, Kyle Kirkland, Luke Peavy, Craig Castleberry, Jessie Bradley, and Curry Evans.
Honorary pallbearers were Buddy Castleberry; Dale Rackley; Tom Grinstead, Sr.; Jimmy Davis; Tony Portivent; Eddie Rhodes; and Richard O’Quinn.

Daniel C. Alexander
Daniel Clifford Alexander, 87, died Sunday, December 21, 2003, at Memorial Health University Medical Center. The Tattnall County native was a retired school bus driver and a farmer. He was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Alexander of Collins; one son, Jerry Alexander of Claxton; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, at Cobb Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, with Elder Frank Waggle officiating. Burial was in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dale Alexander, Gary Alexander, Larry Calloway, Paul Evans, Dave Newman, Kenny Reese, Bobby Hower, and Herbert Gerrard.

Dr. Ronald Weitman
Dr. Ronald E. Weitman, 76, died December 11, 2003, at Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, Georgia, following an extended illness. Born in Tattnall County on August 1, 1927, he was the son of the late Bernice and Clara Durrence Weitman. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Georgia Southern University in 1950, a Master’s in Education from the University of Georgia in 1958, and a doctorate degree in Education from The University of Georgia in 1960.
Dr. Weitman was the Dean of Piedmont College, 1960-1970; president of Truett-McConnell College, 1972-1986; Director of Evening College, Brewton-Parker College, 1989-2001; and Consultant of the Off-Campus centers for Gainesville College, 2001-2002.
He is survived by his wife, Winnie P. Weitman of Cleveland; two daughters, Nancy Cruce of Cleveland and Lynn Collins of Ellijay; two sisters, Vivian Cowart of Glennville and Marcelyn Batchelor of Savannah; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 14, from the chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Keith Rustin and the Rev. Murray Ward officiated. Burial was in Yonah View Memorial Gardens.

Sherrie B. Anderson
Sherrie Burkhalter Anderson, 46, died Friday, December 19, 2003. She was born in San Antonio, Texas, and lived in Glennville most of her life. She was a home care provider, and attended Glennville First United Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Burkhalter, and a son, Mark Anderson.
She is survived by one daughter, April Cox of Claxton; two sons, Trey Moody of Glennville and Russell Love of Claxton; her mother, Helen Burkhalter of Glennville; two sisters, Deborah Joseph and Tammy Blocker, both of Glennville; and three grandchildren: Seth Cox, Micaela Cox, and Megan Cox, all of Claxton.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 22, at Carter Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. James M. Holland officiating. Burial was private.

Rudine Eason Waters
Rudine Eason Waters, 78, died Monday, December 22, 2003, at her home. The Appling County native had lived in McIntosh County since 1945, and was a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She was a retired Civil Service worker.
She is survived by one sister, Frances Orita Ramsey of Savannah; one son, Vic Waters of Belleville Bluff; two grandsons, Shad M. Waters of Belleville Bluff and Mason Blu Waters of Nashville, Tennessee; one great-grandson, Mike Waters of Belleville Bluff; one great-granddaughter, Georgia Blu Waters of Nashville, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December, 24, at Bethel United Methodist Church from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral hour. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 24, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Bobby Ray Martin and the Rev. Julian Tucker. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Doris Jones Rowell, 83, died Friday, December 24, 2004, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville all her life. She was a homemaker, and a member of Reidsville United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Rowell.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Betty Rowell of Reidsville and Mickey and Andrea Rowell of Jensen Beach, Florida; one daughter, Beverly and Harold Keene of Lyons; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, in the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, with Bro. Parnell Aldridge officiating. Interment was in Reidsville City Cemetery.

Judy Sheffield, 54, died Friday night, December 24, 2004, at Memorial Health Medical University Center in Savannah. The Glynn County native had lived in Reidsville since October 2001, and was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Sheffield of Reidsville; two daughters, Cindy Kennison of Sycamore and Judy Ann Brooks of Palatka, Florida; four sons: David Lee Denmark, Jr., and Robert Denmark, both of Jacksonville; Donald Sheffield, Jr., of Palatka, Florida; and Raymond Sheffield of Sycamore; her father, L. A. Goss of Hoboken; her mother and stepfather, Jewel and Harold Griffin of Brunswick; six sisters: Peggy Watson of Augusta; Debra Walker and Diane Young, both of Brunswick; Jeannie Goss of Georgetown, Kentucky; Julie Goss of Rock Island, Tennessee; and Connie Griffin of Blackshear; eight brothers: Larry Goss of Brunswick; Gary Goss of Hortense; Johnny Goss and Jerry Goss, both of Delray Beach, Florida; Jackie Goss of Sanford, Florida; Jimmy Goss of Clewiston, Florida; and Robert Griffin and Tony Griffin, both of Blackshear; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Velma Byrd DeLoach, 90, died Tuesday, December 21, 2004, at Glenvue Nursing Home in Glennville. The Tattnall County native had resided in Evans County for most of her life. She was a member of Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Henry DeLoach.
She is survived by one son, Randy N. DeLoach of Claxton; three daughters: Norma D. Strickland of Glennville; Valdean Falzarano of Coral Springs, Florida; and Faye Hilton of Macon; one brother, Charles Byrd of Ocala, Florida; one sister, Jewel Lynn of Manassas; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 23, at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel in Claxton. Burial was in Brewton Cemetery.
