Walter Nash Coleman, Jr., 74
Walter Nash Coleman, Jr., 74, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003. He was a native of Glennville living in Folkston for many years. He was a retired Civil Engineer with the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was a former Commander of the VFW, a Wagonmaster with the Okefenokee Good Sam’s for eight years and a Wagonmaster with the Golden Isles Good Sam’s for four years. He was U.S. Army, and Korean War Veteran and a member of the Folkston United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his son, Nick Coleman.
He is survived by his wife, Laverne Moody Coleman of Folkston; two daughters, Angela K. Coleman of St. Mary’s and Tamra L. Coleman of North Brunswick, NJ; grandson and wife, Tim and Lisa Crews of Macon; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lamont and Madera Moody of Glennville; and sisters-in-law, Loree Miller of Baltimore, MD and Polly Moody of Glennville.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Glennville City Cemetery.

Bobby Durrence, 72
Bobby Durrence, 72, died Monday, May 5, 2003, at his residence under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville all of his life. He was a US Army Veteran and was a retired civil service employee. He was also a farmer and a member of Reidsville Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtis Vera Oliver Durrence, and a brother, Segal Durrence.
He is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Joy and Roger Crews and Kim Durrence all of St. Simons Island; three sisters, Edra Burns of Glennville, Sue Hommel of Wilmington Island, and Reta Watson of Vidalia; three brothers, Swinton Durrence, D.L. Durrence, Jr., and Kenneth Durrence all of Reidsville; two grandchildren, Brandy Crews and Beau Edenfield both of St. Simons Island; special nephew, Rev. Calvin Durrence of Reidsville; special great nephew, Kyle Durrence of Reidsville; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at 4:00 p.m. at the Reidsville Baptist Church with burial in the Reidsville City Cemetery.

Wyolene L. Franklin, 73, died Monday afternoon, April 27, 2003, in the Meadows Nursing Center of Vidalia after an extended illness. A native of Tattnall County, she lived most of her life in Toombs County. She was retired as a nurse/receptionist with Dr. W.W. Aiken and Dr. J.D. McArthur, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lyons.
She is survived by a son, Donald Edward Collins of Atlanta; daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Tommy Rollins of Lyons; two sisters, Grace Dermott of Millbrook, AL, and Nancy Boothe of El Paso, TX; three grandchildren, Betsy Rollins of Lyons, Karen Falkenberry of Jacksonville, FL, and William R. Culpepper, Jr., of Las Cruces, NM; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 1, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Lyons with pastor, Rev. Dannie T. Williams officiating. Interment followed in the Lyons City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Lyons Building Fund.

Donald Booth Lindsay, Sr., 61
Donald Booth Lindsay, Sr., 61, died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at his residence. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville all of his life. He worked for the City of Reidsville for 20 years and retired as a supply sergeant with the Georgia Army National Guard.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Harper Lindsay of Reidsville; two sons and daughter-in-law, Donald and Tami Lindsay, Jr. of Cobbtown and John David Lindsay of Brunswick; four sisters, Twindle Powell and Miriam Craft both of Reidsville and Sherry Smith and Faye Smith both of Glennville; brother, Wayne Lindsay of Statesboro; four grandchildren, Trey Lindsay, Kurt Lindsay, and Haley Lindsay all of Cobbtown and John D. Lindsay, Jr. of Ludowici.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel. Interment was in the Reidsville City Cemetery.

John M. Moody, 56, died Tuesday, May 6, 2003. The Tattnall County native was a carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Moody of Reidsville; children, George Nash of Lyons, April Cox of Reidsville, Mary Jo Stevens of Odum, and Jewell Mercer of Valdosta; brother, Doyle Moody of Glennville; sisters, Francis Gordon of Ludowici and Doris Morgan of Ludowici; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel with Rev. John Gladin officiating. Burial will follow in Glennville Memorial Gardens.

Bettye B. Powell, 78
Bettye B. Powell, 78, died Sunday morning, May 4, 2003 at Sunbridge Nursing Home. She was originally from Texas. She was ordained by the P.T.L. Ministries as an evangelist. She ministered in churches throughout the United States and through the medium of television. During her residence in Reidsville she became an advocate for the protection and care of animals. She joined with others in advocating the creation of the Tattnall County animal shelter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Robert Powell.
She is survived by her daughters, Starr Denton and Sherri Whitt of Texas; grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Graveside services will be held in Taft, TX on Tuesday, May 13, 2003.
She will be fondly remembered by her friends in Reidsville for her devotion to Christ and her exuberant spirit.
Curtis E. Tatum, 91
Curtis E. Tatum, 91, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Tattnall County native was the retired owner and operator of Tatum’s Store. He was a member and elder of Cornerstone Bible Church and a member of Philadelphia Masonic Lodge of Glennville. He was the son of John Cleve Tatum and was also preceded in death by his wife, Christine Durrence Tatum.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cherrie T. and Terry Waters of Glennville and Reba and Doyle Williams of Lyons; one son and daughter-in-law, Hal (Butch) and Sharon Tatum of Lilburn; two sisters, Myrtice Sikes of Reidsville and Merle Durrence of Glennville; four brothers, Dwight Tatum of Glennville, John C. Tatum of Reidsville, Willie Joe Tatum of Glennville, and Eugene (Tiny) Tatum of Glennville; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held April 18, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel with Bro. Robert Kicklighter officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City Cemetery.

Florence Petty Thrift, 95, died Monday, May 5, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Charlton County native moved to Tattnall County in 1948. She was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Harvey Thrift, a son, Robert Thomas Thrift, and daughters, Uldine O’Neal and Annette Strickland.
She is survived by three daughters, Eunice Kemp of Glennville, Carolyn Stannell of Winder, and Charlotte Bacon of Glennville; two sons, Morris Thrift of Glennville and Eugene Thrift of Townsend; 23 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel with Rev. Keith Rustin officiating. Burial followed in the Glennville City Cemetery.

William (Bill) Barwick Wilson, 91
William (Bill) Barwick Wilson, 91, died Sunday, May 4, 2003 at Glenvue Nursing Home after a long illness. The Jenkins County native had lived in Tennille for 22 years before moving to Glennville in 1983. He was a member of the Glennville United Methodist Church and was a retired agent for Central of Georgia Railroad after 37 years of service.
He is survived by sons, Gerald Wilson of Gordon and George Wilson of Sandersville; sister, Marion Royal of Egypt; sisters-in-law, Aldine Donaldson of Glennville, Myrtice Kicklighter of Glennville, and Mary Wilson of McIntyre; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel with Rev. Steve Posey officiating. Burial followed in Beard’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mearl H. (Bo) Blocker, 51, died Thursday, May 8, 2003, at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville after a long illness. The Tattnall County native had lived in Dacula since 1979. He was retired from the Department of Transportation and was a member of Birdford Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hughes Blocker.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Barns Blocker of Dacula; children and spouses, Michael and Debbie Sneed of Maysville, Sam and Melissa Sneed of Flowery Branch, Jason and Jessica Blocker of Dacula, and Travis Blocker of Dacula; sisters, Janette and Jerry Howard of Ludowici and Janice and Harold Todd of Glennville; grandchildren, Christopher Sneed and Becky Martin; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 10, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church with Pastor Lee Benton and Elder W.H. Durrence officiating. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery.

Mildred Jarriel DeLoach, 88
Mildred Jarriel DeLoach, 88, died Wednesday, April 30, 2003, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Tattnall County native was a member of the Glennville First Baptist Church. She and her husband, the late Reese DeLoach, were the former owners and operators of 301 Drive-In for many years. She was a loving and caring wife and mother.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Edwin and Linda DeLoach of Shellman Bluff and Richard and Paula DeLoach of Glennville; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 3, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Rev. Keith Rustin officiating. Burial followed in the Glennville City Cemetery.
