Gwendolyn Nobles Towns, 58, died Saturday, May 17, 2003, at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raleigh L. Nobles, Sr., and Vera Nobles Clark.
She is survived by three children, Cheryle Towns, James Towns, Jr., and John Towns; two sisters, Frances McCray and Rev. Brenda Brown; three brothers, Lloyd Nobles, Raleigh Nobles, and Bennie Nobles; and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 23, 2003, at 1:00 p.m. at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Collins with Rev. William Eason officiating.

James Edward Cook, 39
James Edward Cook, 39, died Monday, May 26, 2003, at his residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Jenkins County native had lived in Okeechobee, FL, for many years moving to Glennville seven years ago. He was a Truck Driver and a member of Bible Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Amanda W. Cook of Glennville; children, James Cook, Jr., Jessica Ann Cook, and Jennifer Lynn Cook, all of Glennville; mother and step-father, Trudie and Randy Newman of Glennville; sisters, Angelia Sullivan of Brunswick and Barbara Fernandez of Glennville; brother, Clint Cook of Waynesville; stepsisters, Kim Duplisea of Maine and Teresa Gunter of Nahunta; stepbrother, Tony Newman of Woodbine; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2003, at 3:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Church Cemetery in Millen.

Milo Walter Jarrell, 88
Milo Walter Jarrell, 88, died Monday, May 19, 2003, at Candler County Hospital. The Tattnall County native and lifelong resident retired from J.H. Parker Oil Company. He was a member of Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church, teacher and director of the Bible Study, member and a past secretary of Roger Wood Masonic Lodge. He was predeceased by a daughter, Carolyn Weitman; granddaughter, Debra Weitman; and great-grandson, James Milo Jarrell, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Maggie H. Jarrell of Collins; sons and daughter-in-law, Rev. J. Walter and Linda Jarrell of Vidalia and Kenneth Jarrell of Collins; daughter and son-in-law, Vivian and Paul Rivers of Hinesville; twelve grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, May 22, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Tom Deal officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were John W. Jarrell, Jr., Kenneth Rivers, Patrick Rivers, James Jarrell, Michael Jarrell, and Dennis Gerrald.

Frances C. Moody, 62
Frances C. Moody, 62, died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. She was a life long resident of Long County, a homemaker and a member of Pigott Branch Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Andrew and Doshia Moody.
She is survived by her companion, Robert Weitman; a special aunt, Sally Moody; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Pigott Branch Baptist Church with Rev. James O. Young officiating. Burial was in the Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Royce Folsom, Tommy Wells, Jr., Doyle Flowers, Dale Moody, Jamie DeLoach, and Carroll Goss.

Edwin O. Deal, 52
Edwin O. (Eddie) Deal, 52, died Tuesday, December 24, 2002, at his residence. The Tattnall County native was a U.S. Army Veteran and was employed in bridge construction work. He was predeceased by his mother, Frieda L. Deal.
He is survived by two sons, Chris Deal and Clay Deal; sister, Faye Hayslip; brother, Derrell Deal; granddaughter, Christy Deal; father, J. R. (Jr.) Deal; and paternal grandmother, Daisy Deal; all of Glennville.
Funeral services were Friday, December 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Harmony United Methodist Church conduced by Rev. Tony Caldwell. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Danny Blocker, Buddy Deal, Gene Coleman, Charles Blocker, James Deal, and Larry Deal.

Nancy L. Stanfield, 54
Nancy L. Stanfield, 54, died Thursday, December 26, 2002, at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The California native had lived in Collins the past sixteen years. She was the training manager for Little Caesar’s Pizza.
She is survived by her husband, William P. Stanfield of Collins; three sons, Patrick Rich of Holliday, FL, James Rich and John Stanfield both of Collins; step-son, William Stanfield of Pallameta, FL; daughter, Kathy Smith of Hinesville; three brothers; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services and burial were private.

Robert Felton Young, 91
Mr. Robert Felton Young, 91, died Wednesday, December 25, 2002, at his granddaughter’s home in Vidalia. The Washington County native received his BA degree from Georgia Teachers College, now Georgia Southern University, and his MBA from the University of Georgia. He was Principal in Alverton and Nevills, GA, and retired as Principal of Collins High School after 22 years there. He was a member of Collins Baptist Church and the Retired Teachers Association. He was predeceased by his wife, Addie Hall Young.
He is survived by sons, Rodney F. Young of Stockbridge and Harvel Young of Vidalia; daughter, Gloria Y. Webb of Merrimack, NH; brother, Frank Lewis Young of Sandersville; sisters, Madolyn Burkhalter of Augusta and Helen Woods of Macon; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Tuesday, December 31, at 11:00 a.m. at the Collins Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Alan McCoy and Rev. Ansley Jordan, with burial in the church cemetery.

Martha A. Benton, 88
Martha A. Benton, 88, died Tuesday, December 31, 2002, at Glenvue Nursing Home in Glennville. Born in Duplin County, NC, she had resided in Tattnall and Evans Counties for the past 62 years. She was a member of the Manassas United Methodist Church and the Chapter of the Eastern Star. She retired as a US Postmaster for the Manassas Post Office and as a Kitchen Manager for Pinewood Christian Academy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper L. (Lib) Benton.
She is survived by one son, James F. (Buddy) Benton of Bellville; two daughters, Reba Roberts of Reidsville and Janice Morgan of Reidsville; ten grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services took place Friday, January 3, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at the Manassas United Methodist Church, with Dr. Tab Smith officiating. Burial followed at Harmony Cemetery.

Irene Knight Brewton, 81, died Sunday, January 5, 2003, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Long County native had lived in Tattnall County most of her life. She was a former Green Thumb Worker and a member of Beard’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus (Buck) Brewton and daughter, Linda DeLoach.
She is survived by her granddaughters and their husbands, Tammy and Robert Waters of Glennville and Terri and Ronnie McCloud of Glennville; grandson, John DeLoach of Glennville; sister, Lawanna Fein of Silver Springs, MD; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 7, at 3:00 p.m. at Beard’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Spencer Moore and Elder Scott Williams officiating. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John DeLoach, Jimmy Knight, Robert Waters, Joe Brewton, Ronnie McCloud, and Carroll Brewton.

Sylvia Way Collins, 95
Mrs. Sylvia Way Collins, 95, died Wednesday, January 1, 2003, at Savannah Specialty Care. She was born in Emanuel County and lived in Cobbtown most of her life before moving to Savannah in 1975. She was a homemaker, a member of the Cobbtown Baptist Church and the widow of Sidney Quincy Collins.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Betty C. and Robert Horst of Savannah; two sisters, Louise Youmans and Sara Nell Brooks both of Gordon; and two grandchildren, Donna Lynn Thompson and Robert Shane Horst both of Savannah.
Graveside funeral services were conducted Saturday, January 4, at 2:00 p.m. at Sunlight Cemetery with Rev. Calvin Durrence officiating.

Nell Kicklighter Driggers, 79, died Wednesday, January 1, 2003, at Spanish Oaks Retreat in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in Savannah most of her life. She was a Charter Member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Savannah where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher and Youth Worker.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, John (Winton) Driggers of Savannah; daughter, Jan Joyner of Savannah; son, Don Driggers of Savannah; two brothers, Demery Kicklighter of Gray and Eugene Kicklighter of Glennville; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Rev. Steve Hughes officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Berman Tucker, Henry Strickland, Kennon Harris, Aaron Joyner, Wayne Anthony, and Damon Driggers.
