Lillian Eason, 86
Miss Lillian Eason, 86, died Monday, December 30, 2002, at Toombs Nursing Home. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was retired from The Tattnall County School System as the Curriculum Director and was the past state President of the Georgia Association of Curriculum Directors. She was the first lady trustee of the Tattnall County Campgrounds. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, The DAR, the Reidsville Rascallettes and the Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church where she was the first lady chairperson of the Official Board. She taught the Lillian Eason Sunday School Class for many years. She was also a member of the Wesleyan Service Guild and the 60 more or less group.
She is survived by two sisters, Virginia Kicklighter of Reidsville and Martha Jean Smith of Orlando, FL; seven nieces, Linda Berry of Aurora, CO, Dr. Jackie Swensson of Denver, CO; Cindy Moore of Ollney, TX, Phyllis Geissek of Taft, CA, Angie Kappes of Reidsville, Vicki Rose of Orlando, FL, and Kim Jones of Groveland, FL; nephew, Johnny Shuman of Swainsboro; and several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2003, at the Reidsville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marshall Singletary officiating. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.

Susie E. Goocher
Mrs. Susie E. Goocher of Jonesboro passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2003 in Atlanta Medical Center after a brief illness.
She is survived by her husband, Louis Goocher of Jonesboro; two sons, Emory and Isaac Goocher both of Jonesboro; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Goocher of Smyrna and Debra Morgan of Marietta; parents, Mr. and Mrs. John E. Byrd of Lyons; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Michael Mitchum of Collins and Ann and Jimmy Cook of Lyons; two nephews, Brad Goocher of Smyrna and Caleb Cook of Lyons; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service will be held at the New Beginnings Church of God in Lyons on Saturday, January 11, 2003 at 10:00 a.m.
Don Harrelson, 50
Don Harrelson, 50, died Monday, January 6, 2003, at his residence under the care of Pearls Of Life Hospice. The Toombs County native had lived in Reidsville all of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Harrelson of Reidsville; five daughters, Dana Harrelson of Millen, Donna Harrelson of Waynesboro, Brenda Lee Harrelson of Cedar Key, FL, Linda Harrell of Hudson, FL, and Donna Faye Jenkins of CO; son, Michael Harrelson of Lyons; step-daughter, Angie Lanier of Collins; step-son, Joel Buttersworth of Reidsville; two brothers, Jerry Harrelson and Danny Harrelson both of Reidsville; seven grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 8, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Rogers officiating. Burial followed in Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Rob Hutcheson, Tony Willis, Carl Burkhalter, Dennis Sapp Jr., Tommy Lanier, and Harold Kidd. Honorary pallbearers were Russell Ray, Van Johnson, Randy Harden, Leslie Groover, Ray Worthy, Sid Bennett, Dewey Nail, and Seth Boyett.

Mary Edenfield Kennedy, 86
Mary Edenfield Kennedy, 86, died Saturday, January 4, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Candler County native had lived in Glennville most of her life. She was a member of Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church and was a retired Civil Service employee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Kennedy.
She is survived by her sister, Joyce Bell Marino of Jacksonville, FL; brother, Wallace Edenfield of Metter; sister-in-law, Bessie Kennedy Thompson of Gainesville, FL; and several nieces and nephews, including Edwina Skeens of Glennville.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 6, 11:00 a.m. at Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Michael Bryan. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tommy Thompson, Gary Bradham, Larry Kennedy, Dewayne Kennedy, Eddie Skeens, and Joe Skeens.

James David Martin, 69
Mr. James David Martin, 69, of Collins died Sunday morning, January 5, 2003, at his home. The Tattnall County native and lifelong resident was a retired shipping supervisor at Claxton Manufacturing Co. after 33 years. He currently was working part-time as a funeral assistant at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes and delivered papers for the Savannah Morning News. He served in the U.S. Army, and was a former deacon and member of Collins First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lynn Martin of Collins; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Joanna Martin of Collins; brothers and sister-in-law, Royce and Kaye Martin of Pooler, Ellis Martin of Cedar Crossing, Paul Martin and Pat Martin both of Collins; sisters and brothers-in-law, Montez and Ted Deloach of Mendes and Virginia and Aaron Todd of Claxton; and three granddaughters, Madison, Ana-Kate, and Autumn Martin of Collins.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 7, at 2:00 p.m. at the Collins First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Alan McCoy and Rev. Ansley Jordan. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Stacy Martin, Kenny Wildes, Randall Kirkland, Derrick Oliver, Billy Jarriell, and Brian Barnard. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Collins First Baptist Church and staff of Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Homes.

Lorine Berry Strickland, 67
Mrs. Lorine Berry Strickland, 67, died Thursday, January 2, 2003, at her residence in Hinesville. She was a native of Glennville, a housewife, and member of Greater Zachariah Missionary Baptist Church in Glennville.
She is survived by her husband, Ellis Strickland of Hinesville; three daughters, Carol Castillo of Jacksonville, FL, Angela Strickland of Hinesville, and Kenya Marlow of Bristol, FL; two brothers, James W. Berry of Hampton, VA, and Mark A. Berry of Shreveport, LA; four sisters, Mary M. Clanton of Pembroke, Vera L. Morales of Roswell, NM, Yvonne L. Berry of Brooklyn, NY, and Leona B. Scott of Collins; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 7, at 1:00 p.m. at Greater Zachariah Missionary Baptist Church. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery with Rev. C. L. Anderson officiating.

Elaine Willis, 52
Mrs. Elaine Willis, 52, died Thursday, January 2, 2003, at her residence under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The lifelong Reidsville resident was a homemaker and a member of the Reidsville Church of God.
She is survived by her husband, Arley Bo Willis of Reidsville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tonja W. and Alan Price of Gilbert, SC, and Melinda Willis and Daniel Stemen of Reidsville; her mother, Mrs. Maude Barnard of Reidsville; sister, Janice Meadows of Ohio; nine brothers, Brad, Kevin, Ricky, David, and Timmy Barnard all of Reidsville, Gary Barnard of Cobbtown, Wayne Barnard of Metter, Bobby Barnard of Claxton, and Stanley Barnard of Collins; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Steven Newsome, Ronney Willis, Pat Willis, Tony Willis, Lee Willis, Jeffery Barnard, and Chris Davis.

Mattie L. Byrd
Mattie L. Byrd passed away January 5, 2003, in St. Petersburg, FL. She was born in Cobbtown, GA, and raised by her grandmother, Mattie Byrd Cowart.
She is survived by two daughters, Peggy B. Gliss of Tampa, FL, and LaTonya Byrd of Sinai, Egypt; two aunts; eight grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
She was laid to rest Saturday, January 11, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. in St. Petersburg, FL.
Waldo Lynn, 68
Waldo Lynn, 68, died Sunday night, January 12, 2003, at the VA Medical Center in Augusta. The Tattnall County native had lived in Collins all of his life. He was a retired farmer and an U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Myra Lynn of Collins; three sons and daughter-in-law, Randy Lynn of Five Points, GA, Ricky and Renee Lynn of Vidalia, and Daniel Lynn of Fenwick, Michigan; two daughters, Cynthia Lynn of Lyons and Jill Brown O’Neal of Ailey; three sisters, Grace Dermott of Mobil, AL, Nancy Booth of El Paso, TX, and Wyolene Franklin of Lyons; four grandsons, Jeremiah, Joshua, Ricky William Lynn, and Shane Lynn; and four granddaughters, Jessica, Geisha and Shana Lynn, and Lauren Knight.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, at Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church in Collins with Terry Lynn officiating. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jerome Lynn, David Lynn, Billy Whitaker, Kim Lynn, Kenny Lynn, and Jeffery Lynn.
Honorary pallbearers were Barney Hutcheson and Johnny Fennell.

Thomas Eugene Murphy, 69
Thomas Eugene Murphy, 69, died Monday, January 13, 2003, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Tampa, FL, native had lived in Spokane, Washington, where he graduated from East Washington College. He was a retired schoolteacher moving to Glennville several years ago and was a Korean Army Veteran.
He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Miller of McCall, Idaho; son, Kelly Murphy of Bozeman, Montana; sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Donald Wright of Glennville; brother and sister-in-law, Dennis K. and Ann Murphy of Sterling, VA; and one niece and one nephew.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, at Glennville Memorial Gardens with Rev. Oscar Rowe, Jr., officiating.

Jerry Simpson, 77
Jerry Simpson, 77, died Thursday, January 9, 2003, at his residence. The Montreal, Canada, native had lived in Philadelphia for many years moving to Reidsville thirteen years ago. He was retired from Oscar Meyer Corporation and was a Catholic. He was an U.S. Navy veteran serving in World War II.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Danny Salvato of Eddystone, PA; two sisters, Florence Gregory of Reidsville and Jackie Jones of Jones Lake; and granddaughter, Brianna Salvato of Eddystone, PA.
Funeral services and burial were private.

John H. Zupancic, 90
John H. Zupancic, 90, died Wednesday, January 8, 2003, at Pembroke Memorial Hospital. The Artice, Yugoslavia, native had lived in Florida since 1938. He was retired from the Southland Corporation.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bertie Albert Zupancic of Cooper City, FL; daughters, Marta Nash and Lanita Villandre, both of Cooper City, FL; son, James Zupancic of Portales, NM; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, January 16, at 10:00 a.m. at Stoney Hill Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Harris Nix officiating.
