Dana F. Beasley, 55
Dana F. Beasley, 55, died Thursday, January 16, 2003, at Hospice Savannah after an extended illness. The Wayne County native had lived in Glennville for the past 30 years. She was an educator having served at Pinewood Christian Academy and in the Tattnall County School System for 35 years. She was a member of Cornerstone Bible Church.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Robert Winston Beasley of Glennville; daughters, Julie Blocker, Sara Mercer, and Suzannah Beasley all of Glennville; son, Matthew Beasley of Dunwoody; sister, Sheryl Gerrald of Statesboro; brothers, Larry Flowers of Macon, Bruce Flowers of Cobbtown, Dwight Flowers of McBean, Talmadge Flowers of College Park, Doug Flowers of Hephzibah, and Dwayne Flowers of Martinez; grandchildren, Daniel Blocker, Maggie Blocker, Emily Mercer, and Liliana Mercer all of Glennville; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral services were Saturday, January 18, at 11:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Bible Church with Bro. Robert Kicklighter and Rev. Bruce Flowers officiating. Burial followed in Beard’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lee Davis, Daniel Flowers, Bill Floyd, Brian Gerrald, Keith Jeffers, and Chris Moore.
Remembrances can be made to Dana F. Beasley Technology/Career Scholarship or Dana F. Beasley Memorial Fund c/o Cornerstone Bible Church.
Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Shane Griffin, 23
Mr. Shane Griffin, 23, of Bremen, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2003, at Higgins General Hospital. He was born March 15, 1979, in Carroll County to Larry G. Griffin and Gail Griffin. Shane was a dental technician employed by Griffin Dental Lab in Villa Rica, GA, and was a member of the Bethany Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Slater Griffin and maternal step-grandfather, Bill Grooms.
He is survived by his parents, Larry G. and Gail Griffin of Bremen; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Tonia and Eric McIntosh of Temple and Shannon and Steve Matheson of Villa Rica; maternal grandmother, Laurie Grooms of Millen; paternal grandmother, Eardean Griffin of Glennville; maternal grandfather, Jack E. McMillan of Dalton; aunts and uncles, Delores and Martin Mendez of Millen, Herman and Becky Griffin of Marietta, Clyde and Madeline Griffin of Savannah, Maridean Waters of Glennville and Evelyn Griffin of Fort Walton Beach, FL; a niece, Savannah McIntosh; and a number of cousins.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 19, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethany Christian Church with Minister Allen Howard officiating. Interment followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Bremen, GA.
Pallbearers were Matt Howard, Justin Howard, John Bailey, Terry Johnson, Drew Veal, Brian Veal, Tommy Hobson, Michael Hobson, and Andre Kotze.
Martin and Hightower Heritage Chapel of Carrollton was in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Clifton (Bob) Kennedy, 75
Robert Clifton (Bob) Kennedy, 75, died Saturday, January 18, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home. He was born in Glennville, had resided in Mt. Pleasant, TN, most of his life until September 2001 when he returned to Glennville. He was self employed and former owner of Bob’s Tire Service. He was a WWII Army Veteran. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Carl Kennedy; parents, Robert Carl Kennedy and Eula Mae (Bell) Kennedy; and sister, Martha Kennedy Purvis.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Johnnie and Christy Kennedy of Mt. Pleasant, TN, and Troy and Teresa Kennedy of Acworth, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Wayne Massey of Columbia, TN; sisters, Bert Jones of Green Cove Springs, FL, Carolyn Taylor of Largo, FL, Lula Kenney of Wyandotte, MI, Brenda Parker of Townsend, Dale Smiley of Jacksonville, Lavene Bell of Glennville, and Donna Wood of Stockbridge, GA; brothers, Gene Kennedy of McDonough, GA, Roger Kennedy of Lincolnton, GA, Jim (Bo) Kennedy of Oakton, VA, and Wayne Kennedy, Winton Kennedy, Charlie Kennedy, and Royce Kennedy all of Glennville; and grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Heaven, Heather, Sarah, Andy, and Jacob.
Funeral services were held on Monday, January 20, at 10:00 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, conducted by Rev. Tony Caldwell. Additional services will be held in Columbia, TN, with burial to follow.
Remembrances can be sent to Harmony United Methodist Church or Glenvue Nursing Home.

Gordon Oliver Sr., 83
Gordon Oliver Sr., 83, died Monday, January 20, 2003, at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah.
The Tift County native had lived in Glennville most of his life. He was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church, Philadelphia Masonic Lodge 73, and Alee Shrine of Savannah. He was a retired produce broker and a farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Smith Oliver; and family, Gordon Oliver, Sam Oliver, Olga Oliver, Alexis Oliver, Tina Dinkins, and Taylor Dinkins; sister, Juliet Tarver; brothers, Clinton Oliver and Hugh Oliver, all of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 23 at 2 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Rev. Keith Rustin officiating. Burial will follow in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Tim Tarver, Hamp Oliver, Kenny Tarver, Staten Oliver, David Oliver, and Jerry Dowdy.

Lollie Hendrix Rogers, 89
Mrs. Lollie Hendrix Rogers, 89, died Sunday morning, January 19, 2003, at her residence under the care of Hospice of Savannah.
The daughter of Thomas and Lollie Hancock Burkhalter was reared in Reidsville and lived in Savannah most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Baptist Temple in Savannah. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Mr. Gene Hendrix and Mr. Earl Rogers.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Paulette Pettinella of Wayne, NJ, and Biddie and Jess Mooney of Savannah; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.
In keeping in the wishes of the family a private graveside service will be held in the Reidsville City Cemetery on Thursday.
Memorials may be given to: Hospice of Savannah, 1352 Eisenhower Dr., Savannah, GA 31406; or Morris Slotin Travel Fund, c/o Alee Shriners, P.O. Box 14147, Savannah, GA 31416.
Pallbearers were Stephen Pettinella, Mark Mooney, Richard Pettinella, and Chris Mooney.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home of Reidsville was in charge of arrangements.

Wanda S. Alexander, 54
Wanda S. Alexander, 54, died Wednesday, January 21, 2003, at Evans Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Tattnall County. She was employed as Vice-President of Operations by Tippins Bank and Trust Company for the past 31 years. She was a member of the Collins Baptist Church and served as church treasurer for eleven years. She graduated in 1967 from Collins High School and was a member of the Evans Heights Golf Club. She was preceded in death by her father, Cleon Shuman of Collins.
She is survived by her husband, Dale Alexander of Collins; son, Richard Alexander of Atlanta; mother, Bertha Shuman of Collins; grandmother, Laura Collins of Metter; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Calvin and Wanda Faye Shuman and Glenn and Pam Shuman all of Collins; and nieces and nephews, Steven, Brian, Laura, and Chase Shuman and Brett McDaniel.
Funeral services were held on Friday, January 24 at 2:00 p.m. at Collins Baptist Church with Rev. Allen McCoy and Rev. Steve Bryant officiating. Burial followed in Collins Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kyle Sapp, Larry Sapp, Billy Collins, Larry Shuman, Gary Shuman, and Johnny Shuman. Honorary pallbearers were the Officers, Directors, and Employees of Tippins Bank and Trust Company.
J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Harry Geiger Burch, 91
Mr. Harry Geiger Burch, 91, died Thursday, January 23, 2003, at Evans Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. He was born January 13, 1912, to the late Dr. G.A. Burch and Della Smith Burch in Telfair County. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Deborah Susan Foss Burch. He has resided in Pulaski since 1927. He served in the Navy during WWII as an aviation metalsmith in Maryland for the war effort. He was a merchant and Postmaster of Pulaski Post Office for many years prior to his retirement. He was an avid sports fan and gardener.
He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Lucy and Hut Kingery of the Evergreen Community and Ruth and Ben DeLoach of Pulaski; grandchildren, Hudson Kingery, Lee Kingery, Heath and Ellen Kingery and Benjamin DeLoach; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Kingery, Olivia Kingery, and Jacob Kingery; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were conducted Saturday, January 25 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lake Cemetery near Metter with Rev. Grady Collins officiating.

Charles Collins, 76
Charles Collins, 76, of Metter died Wednesday, January 22, 2003, at Candler County Hospital. He was retired from the Candler County Road of Department after 44 years of service. He was a member of Metter Freewill Baptist Church.
He is survived by his daughters, Myrtle Lee Kennedy of Brooklet, Betty Jean Beckworth of Metter, and Dorothy Brierton of Tampa; son, Charles Lester Collins of California; step-daughters, Dorothy Powell of Fountain Inn, SC, Joann Alexander of Collins, and Billie Sue Phillips of Cobbtown; sisters, Geneva Crosby of Brooklet, and Vera Dale Allen of Richmond Hill; brothers, Mandel Collins of Pembroke and Tom Collins, Jr. of Statesboro; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, January 24 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Wood Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Beasley officiating. Burial was in Cool Springs Cemetery.
Wood Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

DonnaLee Mary Glair, 63
Mrs. DonnaLee Mary Glair, 63, died Wednesday, January 22, 2003, at Candler County Hospital. She was born in Orchard Park, NY, and moved to Cobbtown in 2002. While in New York, she was the state coordinator for the National League of Families for POW and MIA of the Vietnam War. She was a volunteer fireman and EMT and an avid outdoor person.
She is survived by her common-law husband, John Whittle of Cobbtown; daughter, Lisa Duncan of Fowlerville, Michigan; her mother, Ruth Lumley Nuessle of Pulaski; brother, Bob Nuessle of Colden, NY; and grandson, Robbie Duncan.
Graveside funeral services were held Sunday, January 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Connors Cemetery near Cobbtown with Rev. Tony Smith officiating.

Laura Belle Hadden, 89
Miss Laura Belle Hadden, 89, of Collins died Saturday, January 25, 2003. She enjoyed sewing, jigsaw puzzles and playing with children. She was the daughter of the late Edd and Mamie Hadden.
She is survived by her sister, Evie Clyde Martin of Collins; brothers, Lester and Cleo Hadden of Ludowici; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 28 at 2:00 p.m. graveside at Collins Baptist Church Cemetery.
Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Home, Cobbtown Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Nettie Padgett Strickland, 92
Nettie Padgett Strickland, 92, died Sunday, January 19, 2003, in Jacksonville, FL. She was a native of Glennville living in Jacksonville for many years. She was a member of the Church of Latter-Day Saints, Dunn Avenue Ward, where she was very active and loved her church. She was a member of DAR and was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years S. Odell Strickland.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Craig Ridd of Springville, UT; son and daughter-in-law, David and Darlene Strickland of Tulsa, OK; sister, Ruth Stafford of Jacksonville, FL; brother, Lyman Padgett of Darien; eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 24 at Pigott Branch Baptist Church with President Richard Padgett officiating. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery.
George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home of Jacksonville and Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville were in charge of the arrangements.
