Cynthia Renee’ Branch Bland, 43, died Friday, March 14, 2003. She was a life long resident of Glennville. She was employed at Smith State Prison as a Medical Records Clerk and was a member of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Dustin Rogers, and a brother, Todd Branch.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Erika B. and Toby Wilson of Glennville; son, Nathan C. Rogers of Glennville; mother and step-father, Sybil and Eddie Rowe of Glennville; father and step-mother, Gary and Juanita Branch of Glennville; brothers, Anthony Branch of Melbourne, FL, and Keith Branch of Glennville; sisters, Lisa Burkhalter and Samantha Durrence, both of Glennville; grandson, Toby Scott Wilson, Jr.; grandparents, Troy Colson of Claxton and Agnes Faulk of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 16, 2003, at 4:00 p.m. at Watermelon Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Truman Blankenship officiating. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Randy Burkhalter, Chandler Rogers, Ryan Burkhalter, Michael Rogers, C.C. Hughes, Jared Clark, Chris Clark, and Blake Hughes. Honorary pallbearers were employees of Smith State Prison.

Mary Bostic Stubbs, 77
Mary Bostic Stubbs, 77, died Friday, March 14, 2003, at her son’s residence in Carrollton after an extended illness. The Tattnall County native had lived in Miami, FL, for many years moving back to Glennville 34 years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of Loves Chapel Primitive Baptist Church.
She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Debbie Stubbs of Glennville and Adrian and Terri Stubbs of Carrollton; brother, Willard Bostic of Chattanooga, TN; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 16, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville with Elder W.H. Durrence officiating. Burial was at Loves Chapel Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Carl Clark, Jr., Gary Gant, Carl Odell Clark, Shawn Stubbs, Rusty Harvey, and Jimmy Callaway.

Howard James Tipton, 75
Mr. Howard James Tipton, 75, died Monday, March 17, 2003, at his home. The Florida native lived in Cobbtown for 15 years. He was a mechanic.
He is survived by his son-in-law, Bobby Malone of Cobbtown; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Home, Cobbtown Chapel. The burial followed in Sunlight Cemetery.

Tiny Mann Threlkeld, 92
Mrs. Tiny Mann Threlkeld, 92, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, in Meadows Nursing Center of Vidalia after an extended illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Toombs County and lived in Vidalia since 1936. She was a 1929 graduate of Georgia Normal College, which is now Georgia Southern University. She was a former teacher and homemaker. She was a local artist, whose works were exhibited at Altama Gallery where she was a member and former director. She was an organizer and member of the Franklina Playhouse, member of the First Baptist Church of Vidalia where she attended Sunday School and was a former teacher. She was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society and the Vidalia Women’s Club.
She is survived by two sons, Wade Threlkeld and his wife, Leigh, of Reidsville and Reid Threlkeld and his wife, Sheri, of Vidalia; step-daughter, Helen T. Darby of Vidalia; four grandchildren, Lindsey and Alex Threlkeld of Vidalia, Brian Threlkeld of Glennville, and Craig Threlkeld of Lyons; nine step-grandchildren, Connie D. Williams of Savannah, Larry and Hughes Threlkeld of Vidalia, Lillian Threlkeld, Linda T. Johnson, and Steven Threlkeld all of Newnan, Pat Sammons of St. Simons Island, Al Moorman of Columbus, and David Moorman of Peachtree City; sixteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Vidalia with Rev. Don Moye officiating. Interment followed in Pinecrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Newton McArthur, Clinton Newton, Charles Mann, Horace Mann, William Phillips, Kermit Henderson, Harris Adams, Joe Neville, Jeffery Neville, Ross Neville, and Richard Neville. Mrs. Wenell Sikes Basile, 81, died Thursday, March 20, 2003, at Sunbridge of Statesboro. The Tattnall County native was a homemaker and the widow of Jim Basile.
She is survived by her son, Bobby Kniphfer of Georgia; daughters, Cassie Mathis of Melbourne, FL, Shelvie Jean Gunther of Alabama, Geneva Kofenhafer of Florida, and Christine Gaban of Florida; brother, Buddy Sikes of Cobbtown; sister Ruby Belcher of Perry; half-brothers, W.J. Sikes of Manassas, L.V. Sikes of Cobbtown, Sonny Sikes of Collins and Buford Sikes of Cobbtown; half-sisters, Mamie Toole and Delma Collins both of Cobbtown, Earlene Lively, Mary Collins and Peggy Lively all of Collins; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Billy Harvey Blocker, Sr., 54
Billy Harvey Blocker, Sr., 54, died Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Tattnall Community Hospital in Reidsville. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, and had lived in Long County and the Glennville area for the past 32 years. He was a self employed Barber, and a member and Assistant Pastor of Life United Pentecostal Church in Hinesville. He is preceded in death by his father, Harvey Blocker.
He is survived by his wife, Judy L. Blocker of Glennville; sons and daughters-in-law, Billy H. Jr. and Gaila Blocker of Glennville and Joey and Nieves Blocker of Glennville; mother, Marie Blocker of Glennville; brothers, Bobby Blocker and Jeffrey Blocker, Sr., both of Glennville and Michael Blocker of Knoxville, TN; sisters, Willine Todd and Dorothy Branch both of Glennville and Betty DeLoach of Anderson, SC; grandchildren, Alexis, Megan, Amanda, Savannah, and Nicholas all of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 21, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville conducted by Rev. Billy Wilson and Rev. Charles Jury. Burial was in Pigott Branch Church Cemetery.

Delmas Durden, 76
Mr. Delmas Durden, 76, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home in Glennville. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville for the past twenty years. He was a retired Captain of Georgia State Prison and attended Oak Grove Baptist Church in Glennville.
He is survived by his wife, Retta Durden of Glennville; son, Taron Durden of Milledgeville; daughter, Delaree Fine of Pittsburgh, PA; step-son, Terry Chastin of Salem, IN; brother, F. M. “Sonny” Durden of Lyons; three sisters, Virginia O’Neal of Glennville, Sarah Kelly and Peggy Jones both of Belles Glade, FL; four grandchildren, Zachery Durden, Austin Durden, Jennifer Fine, and Katie Fine; four step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 27, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Marvin United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Robert L. Franklin, Jr., 88, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at Sandsprings Landing. The Tattnall County native grew up in Glennville and then attended Martha Berry Academy in Rome, GA. He later moved to Savannah where he was a painting and wallpaper contractor for over forty years. He was a member of Cokesberry United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Carmen Byrd Franklin.
He is survived by a daughter, Ann Linton of Savannah; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Barry and Brenda Franklin; granddaughter, Laura Franklin; grandsons, Robert Linton, Steve Linton, and Glenn Linton all of Savannah; and great-grandson, Tyler Linton of Savannah.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 27, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Rev. Eric Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert Linton, Wendell Waters, Steve Linton, Steve Lynn, Glenn Linton, and Byron Lynn.

William Jackson, 94, of Reidsville, died early Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at Tattnall Community Hospital after a short illness. He retired form Hucklebee Hardware after 50 plus years. He was a devoted father and family provider.
He is survived by a loving wife of 65 plus years, Hazel Jackson of Reidsville; four daughters, Agnes Jackson, Betty Jackson and Ellene Jackson all of Reidsville and Gloria Jackson of New York; one son, Daniel Jackson of Vidalia; one brother, Roosevelt Jackson of Vidalia; and a host of other relatives.

Mr. Joshie G. Lanier, 93, died Wednesday, March 19, 2003, at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta. He lived most of his life in Collins and was a retired farmer and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Eunice Nail Lanier.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth G. Lanier and Carol Barwick of Collins; daughter and son-in-law, Annette L. Jeffries and Terry Staton of Woodstock; brother, Winford “Jinks” Lanier of Collins; sisters, Navis Oliver and Eunice Nail both of Collins, Lucy Moody of Savannah, and Cordie May Pellican of S.C.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Allen Lynn, 63, died Thursday, March 20, 2003, at the VA Medical Center in Dublin. The Tattnall County native had lived in Florida many years before moving back to Collins a month ago.
He is survived by three sons, Wade Lynn and Neal Lynn both of Hampton, VA, and Lenard Allen Lynn of Brooklet; five sisters, Bonell Reese and Bessie Moore both of Collins, Annette Bryant of Avon Park, FL, Linda McDilda of Lyons, and Laura Bacon of Collins; two brothers, Charles Lynn of Augusta and Wayne Lynn of Collins; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 23, 2003, at 3:00 p.m. at Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Interment followed in Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
