Horace C. (H.C.) Brannen, 80, died Saturday, February 1, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville most of his life. He was a retired Service Station owner and operator. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and member and elder of Glennville First Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth J. Brannen of Glennville; daughters, Vickie Kyle of Savannah, Pandy Wheeler of Hilton Head, SC, Gilda Rogers of Claxton, Edna Long of Westpoint, GA, and Debbie Tatum of Glennville; sons, Ricky Brannen of Ludowici and Wally Brannen of Glennville; brother, Billy Joe Brannen of Glennville; sister, Marion Collins of Tecumseh, MI; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m. Monday, February 3, at Glennville First Christian Church with Rev. David Everton officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Michael Andersen, Mitch Rogers, Trey Floyd, Cole Brannen, Chad Wheeler, and Jordy Brannen. Honorary pallbearers are Deacons and Elders of Glennville First Christian Church.

Kate Tootle Burkhalter, 81
Kate Tootle Burkhalter, 81, died Friday, January 31, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home after an extended illness. She was under the care of Ogeechee Hospice. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Rudolph Burkhalter. The child of John C. and Raney Lynn Tootle, she was a life long resident of Tattnall County. She was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church and a homemaker.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Faye Burkhalter of Glennville; daughter, Lynne Tootle of Albany; grandchildren, Susan Greer and Sandy Pazderski of Glennville, Lisa Raines and Laurie Whatley of Albany, and James Tootle of Boston, MA; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 2, at 3:00 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Rev. Steve Posey officiating. Burial followed in Harmony United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jackie Moody, James Weitman, Pat Easterling, Quinton Burkhalter, Cleveland Burkhalter, Mark Whatley, and Steven Harper.

James Vance Daly, Jr., 68
James Vance Daly, Jr., 68, of Cobbtown died Thursday, January 30, 2003. Mr. Daly was a native of Soperton and was the son of the late James Vance Daly, Sr., and the late Pauline Wheeler Daly. He was retired from Georgia State Prison in Reidsville.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Daly of Cobbtown; three daughters, Elaine Daly of Gaffney, SC, Elisa Logan of North Augusta, SC, and Jamie Boutwell of Glennville; and three grandchildren.
Services were conducted in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon, February 1, with the Rev. Felton Johnson officiating. Burial was in Westview Cemetery in Soperton.
Pallbearers were Alvin Wheeler, Paul King, Durden Mullis, Bobby Joe Moxley, Steve McCullough, and Keith Campbell.

Vera M. Deloach, 83
Vera M. Deloach, 83, died Thursday, January 30, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville and Long County most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Little Rock Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pauline and Clayton Walker of Glennville; sons and daughters-in-law, Marcus and Iris Deloach, Ralph and Wynelle Deloach all of Glennville, and Frank and Catherine Deloach of Jonesboro; brother, Willie Milton of Ludowici; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 1, at Little Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Gabe Gill officiating.
Pallbearers were Ronnie DeLoach, Harry Milton, James (Duck) DeLoach, Larry Flowers, Arnold Swindell, and Gerald Blocker.

Catherine Duffany, 82
Catherine Duffany, 82, died Saturday, February 1, 2003, at Meadows Regional Hospital. The New York native had lived in Glennville for many years. She was a homemaker and a member of Pineview Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Joe Duffany of Glennville; and daughter, JoAnn Parker of Schenectady, NY.
Graveside Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, at Pineview Baptist Church.

Mrs. Vera Jarriel, 90
Mrs. Vera Jarriel, 90, died Sunday, February 2, 2003, at the University Medical Center in Augusta. The Toombs County native had lived in Lyons most of her life. She was retired from Lyons Manufacturing and was a member of East Gordon Street Baptist Church in Lyons. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Jarriel and three children, Hilda Faye Jarriel, Charlene Sikes, and Metalis Williford.
She is survived by her son, Arthur Wayne Jarriel of Jackson, SC; two daughters, Latrelle J. New of Fayettville, GA, and Evola Corley of Fayettville, TN; fourteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, at the East Gordon Street Baptist Church with Dr. Charlie G. Cooper officiating. Interment followed in the Connors Baptist Church Cemetery in Cobbtown.
Pallbearers were Eddie Corley, Stephen Corley, Mark Corley, Britt New, Randall B. Corley, and Marshall Wayne Jarriel.

Patrick A. Kissinger, 21
Patrick A. Kissinger, 21, died Friday, January 31, 2003, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Liberty County native had lived in Glennville most of his life. He was self-employed as a barber.
He is survived by his mother, Laura Kissinger of Glennville; father, Craig Kissinger of Pennsylvania; sisters and brother-in-law, Mandy and John Lester and Jackie Kissinger all of Glennville; maternal grandmother, Margaret Busby of Glennville; paternal grandparents, Jack and JoAnn Kissinger of Pennsylvania; niece, Rebekah Lester of Glennville; and several cousins, uncles, and aunts.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 3, at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville with Rev. John C. Nunes officiating. Burial was in Glennville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were D.J. Dubberly, Joey Barnes, Lee Dubberly, Mitchell Benefield, Kenneth Allen, and Ryan Barney.

Mrs. Alana Odum Pritchett, 58
Mrs. Alana Odum Pritchett, 58, of Snow Hill, NC, died under the care of Hospice on January 9, 2003, after a long battle with breast cancer. She was a native of Tattnall County, but had lived in Snow Hill, NC, for the past 15 years. Mrs. Pritchett was employed with the USDA FSA as a Computer Specialist working out of the Snow Hill, NC, office and covering 20 North Carolina counties. Prior to this, she worked at the FSA headquarters in Raleigh, NC. She was preceded in death by her father, J.A. Odum of Manassas, GA.
She is survived by her husband, Hillery Pritchett of Snow Hill, NC; daughter, Msgt. Dianne Curtis of Kinston, NC; mother, Gertrude Odum Donahue of Manassas, GA; sisters and brother-in-law, Sharon O. and Jerry Cochran of Columbiana, AL, and Karen O. Dillard of Claxton, GA; three nieces, Kimberly Cochran of Graysville, TN, Leslie Covington of Chelsea, AL, and Rachel Dillard of Claxton, GA; great niece, Ashley Covington of Chelsea, AL; mother-in-law and father-in-law, LaRue and Beulah Pritchett of Walstonburg, NC; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Diane Pritchett of Shawnee, GA; brother-in-law, Gary Pritchett of Tarboro, NC; and numerous other relatives.
Mrs. Pritchett dearly loved her family, friends, co-workers, and job and will greatly be missed by all. To locally honor Mrs. Pritchett’s memory, the family will receive friends and relatives at the Old Collins Gym in Collins on Saturday, February 8, 2003, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Ernest “Gene” Strickland, 75, died Wednesday, January 29, 2003. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville and Tallahassee, FL, most of his life. He was retired from Life of Georgia Insurance Company as a sale manager. He was a member of Pioneer Baptist Church, a World War II Navy Veteran, a mason, and member of the Marzuq Shrine Temple.
He is survived by his wife, Deloris Brannen Strickland of Crawfordville, FL; sons and daughter-in-law, Stuart Strickland of Tallahassee, FL, and Stanley and Jane Strickland of Tallahassee, FL; daughter, Carol Strickland of Tallahassee, FL; sisters, Joyce Pryor of Tifton, Barbara Dasher and Linda Vaught both of Glennville; grandchildren, Lauren Strickland, Diana Strickland, Travis Strickland, and Michael Turner; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 2, at Carter Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Watermelon Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Stella K. Wilson, 91, died Saturday, February 1, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Tattnall County native was a member of Glennville United Methodist Church. She was a retired Beautician.
She is survived by her husband, William B. Wilson of Glennville; sons, Gerald Wilson of Gordon and George Wilson of Sandersville; sisters, Aldine Donaldson of Glennville and Wilowese K. Galbreath of Richmond Hill; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 3, at 2:00 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Rev. Steve Posey and Elder Scott Williams officiating. Burial followed in Beard’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rex Kicklighter, Christopher Kicklighter, Cliff Kicklighter, Dennis White, Jr., John Ed Kicklighter, and Danny King.

Mildred K. Dasher, 70, died Wednesday, February 5, 2003, at home under hospice care. The Tattnall County native was a member of Glennville First Christian Church. She was a retired legal secretary who had worked for Cowart & Cowart Attorneys and Dubberly & McGovern Attorneys.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Buddy Bradley of Glennville and Jo Ellen and Harold Veal of Rincon; sons and daughter-in-law, Gene (Bucky) Driggers of Glennville and Alan and Renee Dasher of Glennville; sister, Mary Harden of Reidsville; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held on Friday, February 7, at 2:00 p.m. at Glennville City Cemetery conducted by Rev. David Everton.
Pallbearers were Matt Bradley, Stuart Bradley, Jamey Durrence, Garry Harden, Jared Veal, and Steve Knight.
