Etta Wilson Smith, 87
Etta Wilson Smith, 87, died Thursday, February 6, 2003, at Tattnall Community Hospital. She was born in Evans County, living in Glennville most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Jacqulyn Schwadron of Dothan, AL, Babs Dowdy, and Kathryn and Wilbert Knight all of Glennville; five sisters, Fannie Durrence of Glennville, Madelene Blocker of Glennville, Hazel Stubbs, Louise Craft, and Betty Grice all of Claxton; one brother, Emmitt Wilson of Glennville; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 8, at 3:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Glennville with Rev. Jerry Knight officiating. Burial was in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Allan Schwadron, Brent Blocker, Wendell Knight, Ashley Knight, Louis Knight, and Daniel Knight.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.

Richard Alan Szymoniak, 51
Richard Alan Szymoniak, 51, died Friday, February 7, 2003, in the Winchester Medical Center. He was born in Sewickley, PA, and was employed as a contract specialist with the U.S. Government for 25 years. He served with the Army Corps of Engineers and more recently with the Federal Highway Administration. He was a member of American Legion Post 21, a graduate of St. Leo College in Florida, a veteran of the Vietnam War, and was an avid fly fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Annette Swindell Szymoniak of Stephens City, VA; son Richard A. Szymoniak, II, of Atlanta; daughter, Marlene Y. Szymoniak Tuten of Midway; father, Walter Szymoniak of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Shirley Lipscomb of Pennsylvania and Rose Pavlovich of Pennsylvania; two brothers, Walter Szymoniak, Jr., of Pennsylvania and Ronald Szymoniak of Pennsylvania; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, February 11, at Little Rock Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Gabe Gill officiating.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.

Francis Doyle Waters, 78
Francis Doyle Waters, 78, died Tuesday, February 4, 2003, at University Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. The Tattnall County native was a graduate of the University of Georgia, a World War II Veteran and was retired as a vice president with Guaranty Savings and Loan Bank of Birmingham. He was a member of Independent Presbyterian Church of Birmingham.
He is survived by his sisters, Myrtice Kicklighter of Glennville, Letha Newlin of Tampa, FL, and Lillie Bell Woodward of Port Wentworth; brother, Troy Beach Waters of Charlotte, NC; and a very special friend, Jim Siler of Birmingham.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 7, at 11:00 a.m. at Loves Chapel Primitive Baptist Church with Elder W.H. Durrence officiating. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Kenny Waters, Terry Waters, Marvin Moxley, Jackie Waters, Fletcher Woodward, and Ronnie Waters.
Remembrances can be made to American Heart Association or Loves Chapel Primitive Baptist Church.
Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Lamar West, 82
Lamar West, 82, died Saturday, February 8, 2003, at Candler County Hospital. The native of Johnson County lived several years in Savannah before moving to Candler County in the Evergreen Community in 1997. He was an army veteran having served in WWII and received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He attended Evergreen Baptist Church.
He is survived by his sister, Cleo Richardson of Savannah; brother, Wiley West of Cobbtown; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, February 10, at 11:00 a.m. at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Home, Hooks Chapel, with Rev. Grady Collins officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were nephews and great nephews.

Lola Mae Hodges Anderson, 58
Mrs. Lola Mae Hodges Anderson, 58, died Wednesday morning, February 12, 2003, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro.
The Bulloch County native had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, John and Tammy Anderson, Joe Anderson, and Oliver Anderson Jr., all of Reidsville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Clara and Brian Holland of Walthourville and Melissa and Randy Amburn of Reidsville; two brothers, David C. Hodges of Statesboro and Harold Pye of Reidsville; two sisters, Eddie Jane Padgett of Reidsville and Sue Cox of Nahunta, FL; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Joey Frost, Rob Shore, Bobby Powell, Larry Copeland, Armonda Nopal and Michael Brett Thompson.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 14, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. William Prince and Rev. Ed Thomas officiating. Burial followed in Pineview Baptist Church Cemetery.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home of Reidsville was in charge of arrangements.

Sarah Annette Brewton, 53
Sarah Annette Brewton, 53, died Monday, February 17, 2003, at her home in Glennville. Born in Tattnall County, she is the daughter of Ananias Thomas, Sr., and the late Catherine L. Thomas. Annette served as a faithful and dedicated member of First African Baptist Church on the Usher Board as Assistant Secretary and worked for over 20 years at Claxton Nursing Home in Claxton as the Environmental Services Supervisor.
She is survived by her husband, James Brewton, Sr., of Claxton; two sons, Ricky L. Thomas and James J. Brewton, Jr., of Glennville; one daughter-in-law, Stephanie Thomas of Glennville; one sister, Barbara Thomas of Glennville; and four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Ananias Thomas, Jr., Charles and Harriette Thomas, and Dale and Linda Thomas all of Glennville and Alphanzo and Tambra Thomas of Atlanta.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2003, at 3:00 p.m. at First African Baptist Church in Glennville.
Moody Funeral Home in Claxton is in charge of the arrangements.

Wilowese Kicklighter Galbreath, 89
Wilowese Kicklighter Galbreath, 89, died Sunday, February 16, 2003, at home after an extended illness. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville prior to moving to Richmond Hill. She attended Beard’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church where she was a member of the Ladies Circle. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John Leslie and Sheila Galbreath of Richmond Hill; daughter, Agnes Martin of Poplarville, MS; sister, Aldine K. Donaldson of Glennville; grandchildren, Alicia and Ricky Edwards of Brooklet and Doug and Tina Galbreath of Richmond Hill; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 18, at 2:00 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Elder Spencer Moore officiating. Burial followed in Beard’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Trent Kicklighter, John Ed Kicklighter, Rex Kicklighter, Ricky Edwards, Danny Ray, and Gary Ray.
Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Fred J. Guy, 57
Fred J. Guy, 57, most affectionately known as Snorkey Guy, died Monday, February 17, 2003, at his residence under the care of Hospice of Golden Isles Brunswick. The Tattnall County native had lived at Shellman Bluff for 12 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Vietnam, a mason, a member of Sapelo Hammock Golf Association, a retired Civil service employee at Fort Stewart, a U.S. Coast Guard licensed Charter Boat Captain, and a member of Shellman Bluff Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Martha Guy of Shellman Bluff; daughter, Davia Guy of Midway; sons and daughter-in-law, Shane and Sherry Guy of Richmond Hill and Scott Guy and Sherry Thomas of Alpharetta; sister, Corlies Stanley of Callahan, FL; brother, W. G. Purvis of Callahan, FL; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 19, 2003, at 3:00 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Rev. Jerry Knight and Rev. Randy Oglesby officiating. Burial followed in Harmony United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Richard DeLoach, Edwin DeLoach, Danny DeLoach, Charles Ellis, Joe Clifton, and Hugh Collins.
Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Evelyn Kennedy Harvey, 86
Mrs. Evelyn Kennedy Harvey, 86, of Mulberry, FL, died February 7, 2003, at the Carnegie Gardens Nursing Center in Melbourne, FL. Mrs. Harvey was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Harvey. She was born in Reidsville and was the daughter of James Jasper Kennedy and Mary Kennedy of Reidsville.
She is survived by her sister, Lila Mae Davenport of West Palm Beach, FL; brother, William E. Kennedy of Titusville, FL, and Reidsville; daughter, Gail Reed of Melbourne, FL; sons, William R. Harvey of Thomasville, GA, Kenny Harvey of Cairo, GA, and Johnnie Harvey of Plant City, FL; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were in Mulberry, FL, on Monday, February 10, 2003.

Carrie Weitman Durrence
Carrie Weitman Durrence, 78, died Wednesday, February 19, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville most of her life and was a nurse with Dr. A.G. Pinkston for many years. She was a homemaker and member of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elvis Durrence.
She is survived by a special niece, Linda Gale Groover of Glennville; and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2003, at Watermelon Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Truman Blankenship and Rev. Van Power officiating. Burial will be in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Wayne Deloach, Gerald Baxter, James Weitman, Harry DeLoach, Mack Durrence, Jason Waters, Reggie Todd and Bernard Purvis. Honorary pallbearers were employees of Glenvue Nursing Home.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.

Oertell Hamm
Mr. Oertell Hamm, 70, died Tuesday, February 18, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was born in Candler County and lived most of his life in Cobbtown. He was a retired farmer, school bus driver, and former employee of the Georgia State Prison. He was a member of Connors Baptist Church.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Peggy Hamm of Cobbtown; daughter and son-in-law, Joy and David Beckworth of Jacksonville; and five grandchildren, Amy Sewell, Shana and Justin Beckworth, and Russell and Michael Hamm.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 22, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. at Kennedy-Morgan Funeral Home, Cobbtown Chapel.
