Robert Clifton "Bob" Kennedy
Robert Clifton “Bob” Kennedy, 75, died Saturday, January 19, 2003, at Glenvue Nursing Home in Glennville, Georgia. He was born in Glennville but had resided in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, most of his life until September 2001 when he returned to Glennville. He was self employed and owner of Bob’s Tire Service. He was a World War II Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Carl Kennedy; father and mother, Robert Carl Kennedy and Eula Mae (Bell) Kennedy; and sister, Martha Kennedy Purvis.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Johnnie and Christy Kennedy of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, and Troy and Teresa Kennedy of Acworth, Georgia; one daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Wayne Massey of Columbia, Tennessee; seven sisters: Bert Jones of Green Cove Springs, Florida; Carolyn Taylor of Largo, Florida; Lula Kennedy of Wyandotte, Michigan; Brenda Parker of Townsend, Georgia; Dale Smiley of Jacksonville; Lavene Bell of Glennville, Georgia; and Donna Wood of Stockbridge, Georgia; seven brothers: Gene Kennedy of McDonough, Georgia; Roger Kennedy of Lincolnton, Georgia; Jim “Bo” Kennedy of Oakton, Virginia; and Wayne Kennedy, Winton Kennedy, Charlie Kennedy, and Royce Kennedy, all of Glennville; and seven grandchildren: Michael, Matthew, Heaven, Heather, Sarah, Andy, and Jacob.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 20, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Tony Caldwell. Additional services and burial were held in Columbia, Tennessee.
Remembrances can be made to Harmony United Methodist Church or Glenvue Nursing Home.

Gordon Oliver
Gordon Oliver, 83, died Monday, January 20, 2003, at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia. The Tift County native had lived in Glennville, Georgia, most of his life. He was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church, Philadelphia Masonic Lodge 73, and Alee Shrine of Savannah. He was a retired produce broker, and a farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Smith Oliver, and family: Gordon Oliver, Sam Oliver, Olga Oliver, Alexis Oliver, Tina Dinkins, and Taylor Dinkins; one sister, Juliet Tarver of Glennville; two brothers, Clinton Oliver and Hugh Oliver of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening, January 22, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 23, at 2 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Keith Rustin officiating. Burial will follow in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tim Tarver, Hamp Oliver, Kenny Tarver, Staten Oliver, David Oliver, and Jerry Dowdy.

Rex Blocker
Floyd Rex Blocker, 68, died Friday, January 18, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. The Tattnall County native retired from the U. S. Air Force after 21 years' service. He served in the Korean War. He also retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections after 23 years. He was a member and deacon of Smyrna Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Glennville VFW, and Rising Sun Lodge #32 in Reidsville.
He is survived by his wife, Margie Sapp Blocker of Glennville, Georgia; two daughters, Charlotte B. DeLoach of Claxton, Georgia, and Jane Blocker of Glennville; one son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Joyce Blocker of Glennville; two stepdaughters, Elois Waters of Statesboro, Georgia, and Carole Kennedy of Claxton; two stepsons, Edwin Kicklighter of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Kerry Kicklighter of Claxton; one sister, Rubye Waters of Orlando, Florida; five brothers: Waldo Blocker and Kenneth Blocker of Glennville; Dwight Blocker of Atlanta, Georgia; Junior Blocker of Columbia, South Carolina; and Wendell Blocker of Bellville, Georgia; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 20, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Wally Hill and the Rev. Randall Adams. Burial was in Harmony United Methodist Church Cemetery, with military honors.
Pallbearers were Charles Blocker, Adair Blocker, Loy Blocker, Calvin Blocker, Neal Blocker, and Andy Waters.

Brian Armstrong
Gene Brian Armstrong, 44, died after a short illness. He was a native of Tattnall County and a graduate of Pinewood Christian Academy. He was a member of Glennville United Methodist Church and was employed by Star Electric, Inc. of Macon.
He is survived by a daughter, Laura Myers of Jacksonville, North Carolina; his parents, Barbara and Eugene Dasher and Gene (Sonny) and Ellen Armstrong, all of Glennville; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Simmie Driggers, Jr., of Glennville; a niece, Cortney Driggers of Glennville; a nephew, Simmie Driggers III of Glennville; his grandmother, Mrs. Merle M. Padgett of Glennville; his step-brothers, Greg Dasher and Gary Dasher of Glennville and Glen Dasher of Claxton.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 23, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Posey and the Rev. Michael Bryan officiating. Burial followed in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeff Armstrong, Phil Pryor, Dana Durrence, Allen Durrence, Howie Stubbs, and Mark Durrence.

John McGlashan
John Thomas McGlashan, 78, died Monday, January 21, 2002, at Toombs Nursing Home in Toombs County. The Tattnall County native was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church, a World War II veteran, and a retired Civil Service employee.
He is survived by one daughter, Marie M. Todd of Reidsville, Georgia; one son, Eric Bacon of Glennville, Georgia; four grandchildren: Heather Todd and Sabrina Todd of Reidsville and Elliott Vandyke and Amanda Vandyke of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 23, at 11 a.m. at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Wally Hill and the Rev. Gregg Usry officiating. Burial was in Smyrna Baptist Church Cemetery, with military honors.
Pallbearers were Larry McGlashan, Raymond McGlashan, Barry McGlashan, Beach Waters, Coolidge Waters, and Elliott Vandyke.

Herbert Love
Herbert E. "Turk" Love, 75, died December 20, 1999, at Pleasant View Convalescent Hospital in California after a long illness. He was a native of Maryland, moving to Jacksonville, Florida, and later to Palo Alto, California, for the past 23 years. He was a retired auto mechanic and a Methodist.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Steve Browning of Savannah, Georgia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Victor and JonAnn Love of Claxton, Georgia, and Keith and Leslie Love of Glennville, Georgia; two sisters, Alice Prender of Palo Alto, California, and Margaret Ann Hayes of Bel Air, Maryland; one brother, Bobby Love of Ocean View, Delaware; four grandchildren: Elizabeth Love and Russell Love of Glennville and Angell Beach and Lani Love of Ridgeland, South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2000, in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Thomas Perryman
Thomas W. Perryman, 88, died Thursday, January 27, 2000, at Glenvue Nursing Home after a long illness. The Alabama native had lived in Glennville for many years. He was a retired welder/pipefitter with Georgia Natural Gas Company. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn B. Perryman of Glennville; five daughters: Nell Bush and Norma Jean Whitfield of Alabama; Eulene Campbell of Glennville; Willa Dean Price of Moundville, Alabama; and Emma Jean Eason of Garden City; three sons: Thomas Perryman of Boise, Idaho; Jackie Perryman of Atlanta; and Phillip Perryman of Tennessee; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 31, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jimmy Bargeron and the Rev. Lawrence Garrett officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Clyde Tootle, Lewis Eason, Ralph Fitzgerald, Richard Blanton, L. H. Bland, and Quinton Rush.

Elma Purvis
Elma Dubberly Purvis, 96, died Friday, January 28, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. The Wayne County native had lived most of her life in Tattnall County. She was a homemaker and a member of Mendes Baptist Church. She was the widow of Ivey Lee Purvis.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Audrey and Paul DeLoach of West Monroe, Louisiana; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Clarence and Carolyn T. Purvis of Glennville; Ira Vondes and Medra B. Purvis of Savannah; and Preston Purvis of Waynesboro (the late Becky Purvis was also a daughter-in-law); one sister, Dova Lou D. Smith of Marietta; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 30, at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville, with the Rev. Oscar Rowe, Jr., officiating. Interment was in Love's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert Dubberly, Bennie Dubberly, Jack Dubberly, Darwin Purcell, David Medlock, and Dale Dutton.

Johnny Reddish
Johnny Reddish, 93, died Saturday, January 29, 2000, at his residence after a short illness. The Tattnall County native was the oldest member of Stoney Hill Free Will Baptist Church and was a retired farmer.
He is survived by two grandchildren, Lisa and John Reding of Bronson, Florida, and Larry and Elizabeth Reddish of Virginia Beach, Virginia; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, at Stoney Hill Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Harris Nix officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Quinton Rush, Wayne Tatum, Eugene "Tiny" Tatum, James Tatum, Dale Tatum, and Joe Brewton.

Viola M. Waters
Viola M. Waters, 91, died Thursday, January 27, 2000, in Glenvue Nursing Home where she was a resident for nine years. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville most of her life. She was a retired sales clerk and a homemaker. She was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Eunice Baxter Sunday School Class and a member of the Golden Age Club.
She is survived by one daughter, Maderia Smith of Reidsville; one son, Lethridge Waters of Glennville; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2000, at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville, with the Rev. Keith Rustin and the Rev. Jerry Knight officiating. Burial was in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dale Durrence, Norman Cohen, David Smith, Chris Gross, Joe Odom, and Clint Dasher.

J. Odell Wilds
J. Odell Wilds, 81, died Thursday, January 27, 2000, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia, after a long illness. The lifelong resident of Tattnall County was a retired turpentine worker and attended Stoney Hill Free Will Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Wilds of Glennville; one daughter, Wilma Baker of Glennville; four stepdaughters: Laverne Sutherland of Douglas; Mary Jane Moody and Vicki Barrow of Reidsville; and Betty Jean Hunter of Claxton; one stepson, Norman "Butch" Barrow of Dublin; one brother, Holland Wilds of Lyons; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 29, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with the Rev. Wilford Harden officiating. Burial was in the Stoney Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

Christine Spikes
Christine Spikes, 69, died Monday morning, January 24, 2005, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. The Fulton County native had lived in Tattnall County most of her life. She was a homemaker, and a member of Elza Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her son, Eddie Spikes.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Edwin "Tensie” Spikes of Reidsville; two sisters, Katherine Garvin and Barbara Sue Langley, both of Green Cove Springs, Florida; three brothers: Ricky Anderson and Frankie Anderson, both of Jacksonville, Florida, and Louis Anderson of Hubert, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 26, at Elza Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rodney Peavy officiating. Interment was in Reidsville City Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Billy Collins, Jack Garvin, Kenneth Crews, Virgil Duckworth, O. T. Ray, and Rabun Phillips.

Nolen W. Seckinger
Nolen W. Seckinger, 70, died Thursday, January 20, 2005, after a short illness with cancer. He was under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. Born March 16, 1934, in Glennville to Jim and Ezzie Seckinger, he graduated Glennville High School in 1951. He served four years in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, being honorably discharged in 1956. He was employed by the B. F. Goodrich Company retail division from 1956 to 1965, serving as store manager in Elyria and Painesville, Ohio. In 1967, he and his wife, Shirley, founded the Seckinger Insurance Agency in Akron. Upon his retirement in 1996, he and Shirley moved back to his hometown of Glennville to the farm where he was raised. He was a faithful member of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church in Glennville and a longtime member of the Gideons International. Prior to moving to Georgia, he was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Akron.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley of Glennville; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Renee of Norton, Ohio, and Bryan J. and Dee of Mantua, Ohio; granddaughters, Rachel and Erin; and grandsons: Sean, Bryan, and Jimmy; sisters, brother, and brother-in-law: Vondell Leggett of Jesup; Odessa May of Barberton, Ohio; and Marscina Seckinger of Jesup; special sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Zola and Will Evans, India and Bill Eads, Judy and Earl Williams, Eugene and Joanne Davidson, Wayne and Carol Davidson, and Dewey and Cheryl Davidson; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, January 22, at Cobb Funeral Home, Glennville chapel, with the Rev. Steve Miller officiating. Scott Blake gave the eulogy. Burial was Tuesday, January 25, in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.

M. A. "Tom" Moody
M. A. ‟Tom” Moody, 86, of the Hortense community, died Tuesday morning, January 18, 2005, at the Hospice of Golden Isles in Brunswick, following an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mattie Lee Moody. He is a son of the late Ike Moody and Courtney Strickland Moody. He was a member of Satilla Baptist Church in Hortense. He was known for his affection of the Satilla River and was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed hunting, and, for a number of years, kept bird dogs. Many will remember him from 'Tom's Drive-in' in Hortense where he was the proprietor for many years.
He is survived by a daughter, Shirley Howard (Gordon) of Brunswick; three sons: James Moody of Whigam; Kenneth Moody, Jerell Moody, and Clinton Moody, all of Hortense; one sister, Polly Moody of Glennville; three brothers: Dan 'Mutt' Moody of Hortense; Joe Moody of the Hickox community; and Sonny Moody of Patterson; four grandchildren: Angie, Renee, Michelle, and Simon; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 20, from the Satilla Baptist Church, with the Rev. Reggie Herrin, the Rev. Thomas Williams, and the Rev. R. C. Mathis officiating.
Pallbearers were Mark Rowell, Floyd Holt, Carswell Royster, Jerry Rowell, Sammy Davis, and Creighton Harrell. Interment was in the Satilla Baptist Cemetery in the Hortense community.
