Mrs. Hazel Birdell Colbert age 85 of Crawford Rd. Blairsville passed away on Saturday July 7, 2007 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Colbert was born on Nov. 30, 1921 in Robinsville, NC, the daughter of the late Casey V. Jones and the late Mary R. Anderson Jones. She was a lifelong resident of Union County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dorris George Colbert in 2006, three brothers, Harold, Clyde and Toby Jones, and a sister, Lina Seabolt. Mrs. Colbert was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mrs. Colbert are two daughters and one son-in-law, Jo and Carroll Weaver of Blairsville, Elouise Weaver of Douglasville, two sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. James and Sharon Ingram of Harem, GA, C. A. and Beverly Ingram of MA, five sisters, Ida Jackson of Blairsville, Ruth Payne of Forest Park, GA, Shirley Moore of Fayettville, Bobbie Lou Gentry of Forest Park, Polly Henson of Blairsville, two brothers, Jack Jones of Blairsville and Rev. Tommy Jones of Blairsville, one hundred and three grandchildren and great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 9, 2007 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. James Ingram and Rev. Tommy Jones officiating. Special music will be presented by the Dyer Family. The grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Sunday, evening after 5:00pm.

REBECCA ELAINE DURKIN
Mrs. Rebecca Elaine (Betty known as Becky) Durkin age 52 of Chestnut Oak Lane Blairsville passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2007 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Durkin was born on Jan.5, 1955 in Hall County, GA, the daughter of Harvey Crawford and Christine Adams Crawford. She had made her home in Blairsville since 1998, moving here from Gainesville. Becky was a mighty prayer warrior for the Lord. Mrs. Durkin was a member of New Hope Baptist church.
Surviving Mrs. Durkin are one daughter and son-in-law, April and Dean Cook of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Gabriel and Lori Watson of Oakwood, GA, mother, Christine Spain of Blairsville, father, Harvey Crawford of MO., aunt, Carolyn Lancaster of Blairsville, five grandchildren, Abby, Dalton, Reid, Savanna and Jerin, cousins, Gene and Faye Phillips of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at 11:00am from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Leon McDonald officiating. Special music was presented by Alice McDonald, Heidi Sosebee, Cindy Whitmore and Sandy Gribble. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Chip Cribble, Stacy Strickland, Rodney Beasley, Gabriel Watson, Dean Cook and Johnny Whitmore. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5-8pm.

HAROLD LIEDOFF ALLEN
US Army WWII
Mr. Harold Liedoff Allen age 89 of Tanyard St. Blairsville, GA, formerly of Marshall, MN., and also of Clyde, KS., passed away on Thursday Nov. 10, 2005 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Allen was born on Aug. 23.1916 in Clyde, KS., the son of the late Walter Allen and the late Daisy Odgers Allen. He was a Veteran of the US Army of WWII, having fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hjordis Bjornebo Allen in 2003, A son, Wayne Allen in 1983, two sisters, Alberta Snavley and Edna Hershel and a brother, Vern Allen. Mr. Allen was of the Lutheran faith.
Surviving Mr. Allen are one son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Sharon Allen of Hayesville, NC, one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Horace Smith of Blairsville, five Grandchildren, Eric Smith, Carmon Schnoor, Nicole Van den Sanden, Dr. Denise Allen and Jennifer Aase, Five Great-Grandchildren, Sydney and Jeremy Smith, Caroline and Meridith Aase and Grace Van den Sanden, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service and interment will be held at a later date from the Zion Lutheran church and cemetery in Clyde, KS., and will be announced. In lieu of flowers if you wish, The family requests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in Mr. Allens memory.

Mrs. Annie Mae Hughes age 93 of Plott Town Rd. Young Harris passed away on Saturday Nov. 12, 2005 in the Chatuge Regional Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Hughes was born on March 24, 1912, the daughter of the late Alfred Kuykendall and the late Maggie Henson Kuykendall. She was a native and lifelong resident of Towns County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Hughes in 1945, son, Albert Hughes in 1975, Grandson, Ricky Hughes in 1960, two sisters, Bert Nichols and Gustie Silvey, Brothers, Harry, Bunt, George, Auther and Fannin Kuykendall. Mrs. Hughes was a member of Old Union Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Hughes are one daughter, Maudine Fortenberry of Blairsville, three sons and two daughters-in-law, Lewie and Maxine Hughes of Young Harris, Frank and Mable Hughes of Marietta, Bud Hughes of Mayesville, three sisters, Inez Townsend, Essie Hood and Alma Gibson all of young Harris, thirteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 14, 2005 at 2:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Lester Sutton and Rev. Billy Stiles officiating. Special music will be presented by Ned Wilcoxin. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Jeff and Randy Hughes, Greg Fortenberry, Justin Moody, Matthew Youngblood and Marty Hughes. Interment will follow in the Old Union Baptist church cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will begin on Sunday evening after 3:00pm.

Mrs. Jessie Geraldean Combs age 92 of Bitter Creek Place Blairsville, formerly of Palmetto and Bradenton, FL. passed away on Tuesday Nov. 15, 2005 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Combs was born on Jan.7, 1913 in Littlestown, PA, the daughter of the late Paul Masomheimer and the late Molly Rider Masonheimer. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Russell ("Doc") Combs in 1963.Mrs.Combs was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Union County.
Surviving Mrs. Combs are one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Robert Langman of Blairsville, four sons and daughters-in-law, Alton and Sue Combs of Twin River, MN., Russell and Ann Combs of Bradenton, FL, Paul and Charlotte Combs of New Port Ritchie, FL, Charles and Celeste Combs of Brooksville, FL, one brother, Buddy Masonheimer of Palmetto, FL. seventeen Grandchildren, seven Great-Grandchildren.
A memorial service and interment will be held from the Skyway Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Palmetto, Fl. at a later date and will be announced. Mrs. Mary Jane Brackett age76 of Haralson Drive Blairsville passed away on Tuesday Nov. 15, 2005 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Brackett was born on Nov. 3, 1929 in Union County, The daughter of the late Sherman Bridges and the late Lillie Collins Bridges. She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. She was preceded in death by her husband Max Brackett in 2002, a daughter, Angie Voe Brackett Miles in 1980, three brothers, Doyle, Loy and Roy Bridges, three sisters, Velva Souther, Lela Hughes and Joyce Wyatt. Mrs. Brackett was a member of Zebulon Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Brackett are two daughters and one son-in-law, Linda C. Cason of Scottsdale, AZ., J. Diane (Brackett) and Tommy and Stephens of Blairsville, three sisters and brothers-in-law, Lois and Olin Hughes of Young Harris, Charlene and C.D. Griggs and Betty and Bud Rose all of Blairsville, six Grandchildren, Kevin Cason, Colleen Cason, Clint Seabolt, Mary Beth Miles, Dereck Stephens and Dana Stephens, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jerry Johnson officiating. Special music will be presented by Patricia Cook and Scott Lance. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, James Bridges, Paul Maggio, Joe White, Steve Hill, Will Craig and Derek Stephens. Interment will follow in the Providence Methodist church cemetery.

Mr. Robert Fisher Shirer age 73 of M & M Place Blairsville formerly of Atlanta passed away on Saturday June 17, 2007 in the Kennestone Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Shirer was born on Feb. 3, 1934 in Allison, IA., the son of the late Clarence Albert Shirer and the late Alberta Johnson Shirer. He was a veteran of the US Navy of the Korean War. He was a member of the Valley Nebraska Masonic Lodge F&AM, A Shriner, and a member of the Sunny Peaches Camping Club. Robert was a loving husband and father. He enjoyed hiking and camping. Mr. Shirer was a member of Providence Methodist Church.
Surviving Mr. Shirer are his loving wife of fifty one years, Mary Jo Harris Shirer of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Leigh Shire of Pensacola, FL, three daughters and one son-in-law, Melonie Jackson of Philadelphia, PA, Sheila and Jackie Johnson of Savannah, GA, Charlotte Shirer of Jacksonville, FL, Amy Shirer of Houston, TX, seven grandchildren, Jason and Justin Jackson, Jack and Jennifer Johnson Rachel, Ross and Robyn Shirer, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2007 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Chuck Gillespie officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Jason and Justin Jackson, Jack and Jackie Johnson, Ross Shirer and Chris Kenny. Interment will follow in the Providence Methodist Church Cemetery. Flowers are accepted or in lieu of donations may be made to the Providence Methodist Church building fund in Mr. Shirer’s memory. Mr. John Weston Fullerton age 63 of Blairsville formerly ofCarver, MA, passed away on Monday June 18, 2007 following a brief illness. Mr. Fullerton was born on Feb. 14, 1944 in Brockton, MA, the son of the late Warren E. Fullerton and the late Mabel L.Milan Fullerton. He was a veteran of the US Navy. He was preceded in death by a son, John W. Fullerton in 1997 and by a sister, Nan Fullerton. He was an avid hunter and loved animals. ohn has now found the Peace which he was always looking for. Mr. Fullerton was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Plymouth, MA.
Surviving Mr. Fullerton are one daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Donald Paschal of Carver, MA, three sisters and brothers-in-law, Jo-Ann and Richard Jensen of Buzzards Bay, MA, Marcia and Joseph Scribner of Hanover, MA, Suzanne and George Hopp of Dellwood, PA, six brothers and five sister-in-laws, Jere and Joan Fullerton of Sandwich, MA, Warren E. Mr. Norman Edward Kirsch age 91 of Alexander Drive Blairsville passed away on Wednesday June 20, 2007 in the Clay County Care center following an extended illness. Mr. Kirsch was born on Sept. 19, 1915 in Campbell Hill, IL, the son of the late Edward H. Kirsch and the late Rosa Vogt Kirsch. He was a veteran of the Merchant Marines. He was President of Rainbow Prison Ministry for over twenty two years. Mr. Kirsch was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church.
Surviving Mr. Kirsch are his loving wife Myra Flemming Kirsch of Blairsville, one son, Marvin Kirsch of Blairsville, nieces and nephews, Barbara and Bill Holly of Murraysville, PA, Loraine and Barry Conrad of York, PA, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2007 at 1:00pm from the Holly Hill Cemetery with Dr. Phillip Meeks officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Rainbow Prison Ministries in Mr. Kirsch’s memory.
