Mr. James R. ( Ralph ) Sparks age 75 of 3300 Nottley Dam Road Blairsville passed away on Saturday September 3, 2005 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Sparks was born on February 17, 1930 in Union County, the son of the late Fred William Sparks and the late Amanda Julia Wiley. He was a native and life long resident of Union County. He retired in 1992 from Wright & Lopes as a welder. A Marine Corps Veteran. Preceding him in death are his parents, brothers and son Ronnie Sparks. Mr. Sparks was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Sparks are his loving wife Claudette Pettett Sparks of Blairsville. Daughter, Alicia B. Jones, son and daughter-in-law Tony and Faye Brown of Blairsville. Five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, five Nieces, four nephews and many other loving relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services Tuesday September 6, 2005 in Chapel of Mountain Funeral Home at 2:00 pm, with the Rev. Randy Hughes and Tommy Jones officiating. The following gentleman will serve as palllbearers, Keith Foster Jr., Darren Groves, Jim Sparks, Glen Davenport, Jimmy Hardin, Walter Sparks. Interment will in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

LELAND SAMPSON DENNING
Mr. Leland Sampson Denning, age 89, of Beale Court Drive Blairsville, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Denning was born on Feb. 21, 1916 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Folliott Denning and the late Lilla May, Coleman Denning. He had retired from the US Navy as Commander with over twenty-one years of service and had served in WWII. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the retired Officers Assoc., and was a member of the Amateur Radio Assoc. He was preceded in death by two wives, Marie Rita Denning in 1986 and by Mary Ellen Denning in 2001. Mr. Denning was of the Presbyterian faith.
Surviving Mr. Denning are his loving wife, Stella Rhein Denning of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Visitation at the funeral home was held on Sunday, September 11, 2005 from 7–9 p.m. with interment following in the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA, with Military Honors by the US Navy.

BRANDY LEE DYER ZIPPERER

Mrs. Brandy Lee Dyer Zipperer age 28 of Guyton, GA formerly of Blairsville, GA passed away April 3, 2007 at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, GA.She was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church in Blairsville, GA and was employed at Gulfstream Aerospace.
Her survivors include her husband Chad William Zipperer, son Cohen Phillip Zipperer; her mother & father Judy & Larry Payne from Blairsville, GA and Perry & Rosie Dyer from Blairsville, GA, her sister & brother-in-law Colleen & John Treworgy, her brother Benjamin Allen Dyer, her step-sister Felicia Dyer, her grandparents Maggie Nelson and the late Homer Nelson and Opal Dyer and the late Duane Dyer, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many friends.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be held Friday April 6, 2007 at 3:00pm at First Baptist Church of Rincon. Brandy will lie in state from 2 p.m. Pallbearers will be her ball Team.Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.

JERRY FRANCES DYER
Mrs. Jerry Frances Dyer age 67 of Haralson Drive Blairsville passed away on Wednesday April 4, 2007 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs. Dyer was born on May 7, 1939 in Fulton County, GA, the daughter of the late Louis Parker and the late Lelia DeLong Parker. She had worked as a Care Giver in the county for several years. She was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Freeman. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Dyer was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mrs. Dyer are her loving husband of forty six years, Gordon Dyer of Blairsville, two sons and one daughter-in-law, Greg Dyer of Atlanta, Brian and Andrea Dyer of Lawrenceville, three sisters and one brother-in-law, Martha Miller of Donaldsonville, GA, Ann Reagan of Blairsville, Carolyn and Teddy Wilson of Decatur, GA, uncle, Ralph DeLong of Roswell, GA, one grandson, Elijah Dyer, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday April 6, 2007 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Keith Jones and Rev. Ron Morgan officiating. Special music will be presented by the Kelley Trio. Interment will follow in the Choestoe Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Breast Cancer Foundation in Mrs. Dyer’s memory. GEORGIE ARMINDA WHITE
Mrs. Georgie Arminda White age 70 of Murphy Hwy Blairsville passed away on Saturday April 7, 2007 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. White was born on Feb. 20, 1937 in Fannin County, GA, the daughter of the late James M. Conner and the late Levie O’Neal Conner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Weldon White, brothers, Hoyt, Columbus, Wilson and Wilburn Conner, step brothers, Clyde and Claude Patterson, and one sister, Rannie White. She was a lifelong resident of Union County. Mrs. White was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. White are one son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Donna White of Blairsville, two daughters and one son-in-law, Lillian Byers of Young Harris, Mary and Raymond Byers of Blairsville, one brother, Audalle Conner of Blue Ridge, five grandchildren, Bobby Williams, R. L. Byers, DeBronda Byers, Jonathan Byers and Jesse White, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday April 9, 2007 at 2:00pm from the New Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Brent Chatham and Rev. Jay Lynch officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Tommy McAuliffe, Rusty Greenway, Terry White, William Carpenter, Rodney Collins, Robert Duckworth, Jimmy Pickelsimer and Jesse White. WILLIAM PATRICK COONEY
Mr. William Patrick Cooney Jr. Age 81 of Lakeview Acres Hiawassee passed away on Saturday March 31, 2007 in the Chatuge Regional Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. Cooney was born on Sept. 6, 1925 in Chatham County, GA, the son of the late William P. Cooney Sr. and the late Mary E. Wilson Cooney. He retired in 1983 from the Kaiser Agriculture Chemical Company as a Train Engineer with over twenty years of service. He was the Head of Disaster Relief of the American Red Cross for Chatham County, A member of the Hiawassee Gun Club, AARP, and also an Exercise Instructor in Savannah area schools. Mr. Cooney was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Surviving Mr. Cooney are his loving wife of fifty nine years, Justine Cooney of Hiawassee, two sons and one daughter-in-law, James Crest Cooney of Clewiston, FL, Patrick and Harriett Cooney of Mt. Pleasant, SC., two daughters and one son-in-law, Sharon and Jack Witt of Pembroke, GA, Mary Phillips of Jesup, GA, one sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Webster Pebler of LaFayette, IN., three grandchildren, Emily Whitson, Justin Phillips and William Cooney, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday April 4, 2007 at 5:00pm from the Immaculate of Mary Catholic Church with Father George Klooster officiating .In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Chatuge Nursing Home of Hiawassee in Mr. Cooney’s memory. The family will meet with friends following the services.

Mr. Sheldon Evon Patterson age 62 of Shelynda Lane Blairsville passed away on Friday Aug. 25, 2006 at his home following a brief illness. Mr. Patterson was born on May 14, 1944, The son of the late Millard Patterson and the late Alean Hunt Patterson. Mr. Patterson owned and operated Today’s Hearing Aid Center of Blairsville. He was a member of the Young Cane Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Collen Patterson in 1936 and Collyn Patterson in 1940.Mr.Patterson was a member of the Philadelphia Baptist church.
Surviving Mr. Patterson are one daughter and son-in-law, Shelynda and Tommy Jones of Ellijay, one son Chris Patterson of Lafayette, GA, one sister and brother-in-law, Condice and Melvin Collins of Murfreesboro, TN., two nieces, Rayann Collins and Catrina Atkins of TN., great niece, Mallory Atkins, great nephew, Maddox Atkins, four grandchildren, Tori and Nicholas Jones, Ciara and Ansley Patterson many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006 at 3:00pm from the Philadelphia Baptist church with the Rev. Waymon Lovell officiating. Special music was presented by the church choir. The following gentleman serves as pallbearers, Chris Patterson, Jimy Thompson, Butch Patterson, Richard Wheeler, James Grizzle and Mike Grigline. Interment followed in the church cemetery with the Young Cane Lodge Conducting Masonic Rites.

BARBARA WHEELER
Mrs. Barbara Jones Wheeler age 66 of Green Ln. Blairsville passed away on Friday August 25, 2006 at her home following an extended illness. Mr. Wheeler was born on Aug. 18, 1940 in Parkin, Arkansas, The daughter of the late James Thomas and the late Florence Jenkins Thomas. She was raised in Ft. Meade, FL. She retired from Cargill Industries Phosphate Mine in 1990 and moved to the mountains to be with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents and, also a brother who died in Vietnam, Harlan Harris. Mrs. Wheeler was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mrs. Wheeler are three daughters and a son, Cheryl and Keith Weaver of Blairsville, George and Connie Walker of Blairsville, Rayannette Wheeler of Blairsville, Melissa Wheeler of Blairsville, one brother, Harold Harris of Avon Park, FL, four grandchildren, Amber and Brent Laney, James Sara Weaver, all of Blairsville, Chris and David Wheeler of Michigan, great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Anderson, Nicole Weaver, Dylan Weaver, Briana Allen all of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday Aug. 30, 2006 at 7:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Leon Henderson, Rev. Jeremy Henderson and Rev. Jim Crews officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in Mrs. Wheeler’s memory.
