TRINA HEMKES BARBIERI

Mrs. Trina Barbieri of Gearing Drive Blairsville passed away on Thursday Jan.26, 2006 in the Murphy Medical center following an extended illness. Mrs. Barbieri was born on Oct. 10, 1920 in Holland, The daughter of the late Henry Hemkes and the late Marget Dykman. She was preceded in death by her husband.Charles Barbieri. Mrs. Barbieri was a member of the Sunlight Community Church.

Surviving Mrs. Barbieri are one sister and brother-in-law, Isabel and John Sweetman of Homosassa, FL, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Memorial services for Mrs. Barbieri will be held at a later date and will be announced later. In lieu of flowers if you wish, The family requests that memorials may be made to a favorite charity of your choice in Mrs. Barbieri’s memory.

MAZEL BERNICE HUNT

Mrs. Mazel Bernice Hunt age 73 of the Old Blue Ridge hwy Blairsville passed away on Thursday Dec. 29, 2005 following an extended illness. Mrs. Hunt was born on June 13, 1932 in Towns County, GA, The daughter of the late Frank Gribble and the late Dollie Cruise Gribble. She had worked at Georgia Boot for several years. She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce Hunt and a brother Hoyt Gribble. She was a lifelong resident of Union County. Mrs. Hunt was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mrs. Hunt are one son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Michelle Rich of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Bill Smith of Loganville, GA, two sisters, Mozella Crouch of Ocala, FL, Monette Rhodes of SC., two Grandchildren, Kerry Jayne Rich and Brian Plumley, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday Dec. 31, 2005 at 2:00 pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Earl Pickelsimer and Rev. Jerry Young officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Jeff Butt, Mike Brown, David Miller, Brian Plumley, Ted Lunsford and Bill Smith. Interment will follow in the Union Memory Gardens cemetery.

JAIMESON DREW SNOW

Jaimeson Drew Snow age 17 of Pleasant hill Rd. Blairsville passed away on Thursday Dec. 29, 2005 in Lumpkin County following injuries received in an automobile accident. Jaimeson was born on Jan.31, 1988 in Union County, The son of John William Snow Jr. and Janene Henson Snow. He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County and had attended the Union County School system. He was preceded in death by his Grandparents, Jimmy Henson and Fumiko Snow. Jaimeson attended the First Baptist church.

Surviving Jaimeson are his parents, John William Snow Jr. of Blairsville, Janene Henson Gray of Loganville, GA, three brothers, John William Snow III, Kyle Snow and Caleb Snow all of Blairsville, Grandparents, Joyce Henson of Blairsville, John William Snow Sr. of Blairsville, Great-Grandparents, Reba and William Newsome, Uncles and Aunts, Jason and Amy Henson, Jared and Helen Henson, Jennifer Howard, Pat and Denise Snow and Henry Snow, Cousins, Jordyn Howard, Misty, Brandy, Brooke, Ashley, Daniel and Dylan Snow, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006 at 4:00 pm from the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Lodge and Rev. Chris Miller officiating. Special music will be presented by Terry Hooper. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Trey Gunter, Matt Forrester, Justin Jones, Lee Goodman, Evan Albright and Shane McDonald. Interment will follow in the Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery.

BEVERLY MAE WOLKOM

Mrs. Beverly Mae Wolkom age 78 of Wesley Mtn. Drive Blairsville passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2006 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Wolkom was born on April 10, 1927 in Alpena, NJ, the daughter of the late Jonathan Thomson and the late Ida Burt Thomson. She had been employed as a Book Keeper and retired in 1988.She was preceded in death by her first husband, Willis Wood and also by her second husband, Jim Wolkom. Mrs. Wolkom was a member of the Coosa United Methodist church.

Surviving Mrs. Wolkom are one daughter and son-in-law, Sharin and George Perricone of Blairsville, one brother and sister-in-law, one brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Helen Thomson of Florida, one sister, Ida Roberts of Michigan, two grandchildren, Tracy Perricone of Blairsville, George and wife Karen Perricone of Blairsville, one Great-Grandchild, Noah Perricone of Blairsville, Nephew and God Son, Anthony Cosentino and family of Ocean Port, NJ, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday Jan.19, 2006 at 10:00 am from the Coosa Methodist Church with the Rev. Katie Strals officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, George Perricone, George Perricone Jr., Bradley O’Brien, and Cane Hayes. Interment will follow in the Glenwood Cemetery in West Long Branch, NJ. at a later date.

HENRY LEANDER HOWARD

US Army WWII

Mr. Henry Leander Howard age 86 of Wesley Mtn. Drive Blairsville, formerly of Merkel, TX, passed away on Friday January 20, 2006 at his home following a brief illness. Mr. Howard was born on Aug. 18, 1919 in Montgomery, AR., The son of the late Samuel J. Howard and the late Lillie Standridge Howard. He retired as a Purchasing Manager with the Rural Electric co-op in Merkel, TX. He was a veteran of the US Army of WWII. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Nadine Clack Howard in 2001.Mr.Howard was a member of the First Baptist church of Merkel.

Surviving Mr. Howard are one daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Jerry Brooks of Murphy, NC, one son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Larry and Mary Howard of San Angelo, TX, four Grandchildren, Lisa Brooks of Tampa, FL, Lance Brooks of Big Coppitt, FL, Robin Howard of Austin, TX, Melody and Steve Verm of San Antonio, TX, one Great-Grandchild, Taran Verm, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday Jan.24, 2006 at 2:00 pm from the First Baptist church of Merkel, TX, with the Rev. Jimmy Griffith officiating. Interment will follow in the Rosehill cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the Starbuck funeral home in Merkel on Monday evening from 7:30-9pm.

MARCUS RALPH BAGGETT

US Air Core WWII

Mr. Marcus Ralph Baggett age 79 of Hester Drive Blairsville passed away on Saturday Jan.20, 2007 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Baggett was born on March 29, 1927 in Feldsmere, FL, the son of the late William Baggett and the late Martha Bradshaw Baggett. He was employed with the Kennedy Space Center as an Engineer which he was so proud of. He was listed in the Smithsonian Institute as one of the Engineers who worked on the Saturn 5 Space Shuttle and was also a member of the Experimental Aircraft Assc. Marcus loved his family and church and also loved playing the piano. His Pastor, family and friends compared him to Jimmy Stuart. He was a veteran of the US Air Core of WWII. Mr. Baggett was a member of the Blairsville Church of Christ.

Surviving Mr.Baggett are his loving wife of forty one years, Neva Viola Brown Baggett of Blairsville, their children, Donna and Karl Amidon of West Mont, IL, Gary and Cindy Baggett of Joliet, IL, Jeffrey and Tina Baggett of El Paso, IL, Gilda McIntosh of Spring Hill, TN., Frank Guynn of King George, VA, one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Billie Baggett of Denver, CO., one sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Tom Mier of Lake City, FL, ten grandchildren, Benjamin, Nathan, Melissa, Angie, Amy, Abby, Mollie, Tammy, Paige and Stacy, seven great-grandchildren many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday Jan.23, 2007 at 2:00pm from the Blairsville Church of Christ with Minister, Terry Stuart, Minister, Aaron Stanley and Mark Cargill officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Mark Cargill, Aaron Stanley, Jake Colwell, Nathan Amidon, Benjamin Amidon and Rusty Logan. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Prayer Breakfast Group of the Blairsville Church of Christ and the Members of the Experimental Air Craft Assc. Interment will follow in the Union Memory Gardens cemetery with the North GA. Honor Guard conducting Military Honors. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-8pm.

ELSIE KATHERINE DEAN

Mrs. Elsie Katherine Dean age 70 of Jones Creek Rd. S. Blairsville passed away on Saturday Jan.20, 2007 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Dean was born on April 21, 1936 in Littcarr, KY., the daughter of the late Ted Tolliver and the late Annie Thornsbury Tolliver. She and her husband Glen owned and operated the Georgia Trader, which was located on the Blue Ridge Hwy for several years. She was preceded in death by her husband of forty three years, Glen R. Dean in 1995.Mrs.Dean was a member of New Hope Baptist church.

Surviving Mrs. Dean are two daughters and one son-in-law, Elinda Mears of Blairsville, Pamela and Danny Matheson of Blairsville, two brothers, Tommy Tolliver of Sevierville, TN., Ewins Tolliver of Ermine, KY., three sisters, Zola Miles of Premium, KY., Geraldine Lowe of Ebeton, KY., Irene McPeeks of Whitesburg, KY., six grandchildren, Glen Santiago, Glen Summerlin, Millie Milagros Santiago, James Mears III, Ernie Cardona Sr., Eric Figurroa, eleven great-grandchildren, Chelsie, Joseph, Kayla, Candice, Marissa, Haley, Ernie, Mariah, Arnold, Joel and Caitlin, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Jan.24, 2007 at 3:00pm from the New Hope Baptist church with the Rev. Leon McDonald and Rev. Jerry Helton officiating. Special music will be presented by Alice McDonald. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Steve Sexton, Melvin Cantrell, Val Kozik, Randy Pagel, John Robinett and Eric Figurroa. Interment will follow in the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from6-9pm.

MAXINE H. SIMS

Mrs. Maxine Henderson Sims age 74 of Rossville, GA, formerly of Blairsville passed away on Monday Jan.22, 2007 in the Ft. Oglethorpe Nursing Center following an extended illness. Mrs. Sims was born on Feb. 7, 1932 in Union County, the daughter of the late William H. Henderson and the late Onnie Lou Smith Henderson. She had retired from the Signal Knitting Mill of Chattanooga, TN., with over twenty one years of service. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Fletcher, Bly, Rayford and Don Henderson, two sisters, Mary Lou Klassen and Susie Cordell. Mrs. Sims was a member of Ebenezer Baptist church.

Surviving Mrs.Sims are her loving husband of forty nine years, Harold Sims of Rossvile, GA, one brother, Randall Henderson of Blairsville, two sisters, Nina Bible of Chattanooga, Regina Morgan of Rossville, one brother-in-law, Tom Cordell of Ringold, GA, nieces and nephews, Yvonna Smith and Gail Weaver both of Blairsville, Mike Bible of Ringold, Angie Carter of Chattanooga and Ricky Klassen of Ringold, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Jan.24, 2007 at 1:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. R. L. Martin officiating. Special music will be presented by Moe and Gail Weaver and Heather Henderson. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Tommy Cordell, Mike Bible, Tracy Henderson, Jeff Henderson, John Weaver, Moe Weaver and Ricky Klassen. Interment will follow in the Ebenezer Baptist church cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home of Tuesday evening from 6-9pm.

BRUNO DOMINICK SURACI

US Marines Korean War

Mr. Bruno Dominick Suraci age 73 of Deer Run Rd. Blairsville, formerly of Ft. Pierce, FL. passed away on Thursday Jan.25, 2007 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Suraci was born on April 1, 1933 in Hazelton, PA, the son of the late Dominick Suraci and the late Camille Suraci. He was a veteran of the US Marines of the Korean War. Mr. Suraci attended the First Baptist Church of Blairsville.

Surviving Mr. Suraci are his loving wife, Joyce McGeehen Suraci of Blairsville, two daughters and one son-in-law, Rose Camille and Glen Cappello of Pelham, NY, Julie Suraci of N.Lauderdale, FL, Two sons, Donald Suraci of Holbrrok, NY, Dante Sasso of Smith Town, NY, one step son, Ronnie Babinec of Tamarac, FL, three step daughters and son-in-law, Michell and Bill Gernannt of Jacksonville, FL, Mark and Laura Babinec of Hollywood, FL, Melissa and Doug Roberts of Blairsville, one brother, Angelo Suraci of NY, three grandchildren, Frankie Cappello, Dante Sasso Jr., and Kyle Sasso, four step grandchildren, Justin Babinec, Mark Babinec Jr., Zachary Babinec and Michael Gernannt, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007 at 4:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Chris Miller officiating. Special music was presented by Curtis Underwood. Interment and graveside services will be held on Thursday Feb. 1, 2007 at 2:00pm from the Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, NY. with Military Honors.
