BEN STEIN
Mr. Ben Stein age 90 of Kiutuestia Creek Rd., Blairsville passed away on Friday June 15, 2007 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. Stein was born on April 25, 1917 in Brooklyn, NY., the son of the late Max Stein and the late Lena Raff Stein. He retired from A-1 Fire fighting Equipment in Phoenix, AZ, after several years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Guren Stein and also by a sister, Florence Holtz. Mr. Stein was of the Jewish faith.
Surviving Mr. Stein are one daughter and son in law, Linda and Earl Conlon of Blairsville, one brother and sister in law, Sol and Rosanna Stein of CA, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Blairsville Mountain Shelter in Mr. Stein’s memory.

PHYLLIS JEAN PANDER
Mrs. Phyllis Jean Pander age 60 of Nottley Trace Blairsville formerly of Ellwood City, PA, passed away on Friday June 15, 2007 after fighting a long hard battle, she received her reward from her Lord. Mrs. Pander was born on Nov. 18, 1946 in Ellwood City, PA., the daughter of the late Charles Walter Simmons and the late Esther Schramm. She was a Registered Nurse for over thirty years, and was currently employed at Union General and Fannin Regional Hospitals. She was a very loving wife and mother and will be greatly missed. Mrs. Pander was a member of the Mountain Presbyterian Church.
Surviving Mrs. Pander are her loving husband of forty years, Thomas Pander Sr. of Blairsville, two sons and daughter in laws, Timothy and Susie Pander of Englewood, FL, Tom and Beaverly Pander of Blairsville, one daughter and son in law, Teresa and Mike Presnar of Ellwood City, PA, two sisters and one brother in law, Margaret Cron of Unionville, PA, Nancy and Dave Dishler of Rochester, PA, two brothers Robert Simmons of Levitown, PA, Richard Simmons of Ellwood City, PA, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held on Sunday June 17, 2007 at 2:00pm from the Mountain Presbyterian Church with the Rev. K. Travis Adams officiating. Funeral services will also be held on Thursday June 21, 2007 at 2:00pm from the Chapel of Marshall Funeral Home in Ellwood City, PA., with visitation being held on Wednesday evening from2-4 and 7-9pm at the Marshall Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Wurtemburg Cemetery.

JUSTIN LANIGAN
Mr. Justin Lanigan age 44 of Blairsville passed away on Wednesday oct.25, 2006. Mr. Lanigan was born on July 6, 1962 in New York, NY, The son of John Lanigan and Marilou Elsis Lanigan. He resided in Blairsville for the past eight years. Mr. Lanigan was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving Mr. Lanigan are his wife, Lisa Lanigan of Blairsville, one daughter, Jodi Lanigan of Blairsville, parents, John And Marilou Lanigan of Blairsville, one sister, Judy Esposito of Blairsville, one niece, Sara Nicole Esposito of Blairsville, one nephew, Joseph Robert Esposito of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Justin helped establish and run various family businesses in and out of Union County. He was a caring and loving father and uncle. Justin will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
In lieu of flowers if you wish, memorials may be made to the Humane Society Animal Shelter, 1390 E. US Hwy 76 Hiawassee, GA. in Justin’s memory.

HAROLD READE
US Marines
Mr. Harold Reade age 78 of Stonebrook Blairsville passed away on Wednesday Oct.25, 2006 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. Reade was born on Oct.25, 1928, The son of the late Frank Reade and the late Pearl Meade Reade. He retired from the US Marine Corps with over twenty five years of service. He was a member of the N. R. A., Arbor Day, the V. F. W. and the D. A. V. Mr. Reade passed away on his birthday. Mr. Reade was of the Pentecostal faith.
Surviving Mr. Reade are his loving wife of twenty years, Marjorie Hutchings Reade of Blairsville, two step children, Kim Gosser of Elkhart, IN., Jeffrey Staton also of Elkhart, many other relatives and friends also survive.
No services are planned locally. Interment will be held in the Arlington National cemetery. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to your favorite charity in Mr. Reade’s memory.

MERLE AMANDA WACTOR
Mrs. Merle Amanda Wactor age 56 of Pine Crest Circle Cleveland, GA. formerly of Hayesville, NC. passed away on Wednesday November 1, 2006 in the North East Ga. Medical Center in Gainesville following a brief illness. Mrs. Wactor was born on April 23, 1950 in Hayesville, NC, The daughter of the late J. C. White and the late Wanda Bracken White. Mrs. Wactor was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mrs. Wactor are four daughters and two son in law, Tracy and Chuck Thomason of Cleveland, GA, Debbie Crisp of Cleveland, Brandi and Zach Price of Cleveland, Patty Carter of Myrtle Beach, SC., one sister and brother in law, Linda and Tommy Moore of Hayesville, one brother and sister in law, Ricky and Pam White of Hayesville, twelve grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Memorial services were held on Sunday November 5, 2006 from the Meadow Grove Baptist church with the Rev. Keith Nuckolls officiating.

ROBERT CECIL CRISP
WWII US Army
Mr.Robert Cecil Crisp age 84 of Whittler’s Mountain Rd. Murphy, NC. formerly of Blairsville passed away on Jan.11, 1922 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Crisp was born on Jan.11, 1922 in Proctor, NC, the son of the late Robert Lee Crisp and the late Minnie Odessa Swanson Crisp. He was a Master Electrician by trade and was a veteran of the US Army of WWII. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty seven years, Jacquelyn Stout Crisp in 2004, also by two brothers, J. C. and Troy Crisp, and two sisters, Margie Stinson and Nina Sawyer. Mr. Crisp was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist church.
Surviving Mr. Crisp are one daughter and son in law, Cynthia and Roy Hoover of Murphy, two sons and daughter in laws, Robert and Carol Crisp and John and Joy Crisp all of Sebastain, FL, eight grandchildren, Jo Ann Smith, Crystal Holloway, John Crisp Jr., Wesley Rotgers, Robert Orin Crisp, Renee Martin, Amber Rogers and Ashton Crisp, twelve great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services were held on Friday Nov.3, 2006 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Loys Waters officiating. A Eulogy was given by Crystal Holloway and Robert Orin Crisp. Special music presented were some of Mr. Crisp’s favorite hymns. The following gentleman serves as pallbearers, Roy Hoover, Wesley Rotgers, Jerry Holloway, Said Jemmett, Mike Martin, Robert Orin Crisp and Tyler Holloway. Interment followed in the Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery with Masonic Rites conducted by the Allegheny Masonic Lodge #114 F&AM.

MARTHA LOUISE COMBS
Martha Louise Combs (87) went home to be with the Lord on May 4, 2006 at Union General Hospital, Blairsville, Ga. after a short illness. She was born October 30, 1918 in Tazewell, Virginia, to the late J.R. Gildersleeve and the late Laura (Beavers) Gildersleeve. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Robinson Gildersleeve, II and her husband Richard Raymond Combs.
She is survived by her sister, Helen Fulford and two sons, Richard Combs (Ann) of Orlando, Florida and Franklin Combs (J’Nai) of Murphy. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Martha moved to Florida in her early twenties where she was active in her sorority, Beta Sigma Phi, the Desota Celebration of Manatee County and a volunteer in the Republican party of Bradenton Florida. She was also a volunteer at Manatee Memorial Hospital thrift shop and was a member of the auxiliary of Manatee Memorial Hospital. She operated her own beauty salon for many years and was an avid bridge player. She attended the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bradenton, FL and served as a deacon there.
She moved to Murphy, N.C. in August 2005 to live with her sister and son (Franklin and wife). She was a member of Murphy First Baptist Church and loved her church family. She loved listening to Southern Gospel music and to gospel music by Elvis.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday evening from the Bradenton funeral home chapel with Frank and Richard Combs officiating.Graveside services and interment will follow on Friday morning May 12, 2006 at 10:00am from the SkyWay Memorial cemetery.

SUSAN GAIL HORNE
Mrs. Susan Gail Horne age 50 of Tombstone Drive Blairsville passed away on Monday May 8, 2006 in Towns County from injuries received in an automobile accident. Mrs. Horne was born on Dec.11, 1955 in Ft. Myers, FL, The daughter of the late James Hilton and the late Margarite Snyder Hilton. At the time of her death she was employed with Regency Hospice as an RN and also at Union General Hospital. She was a dedicated nurse and her patients became part of her family. She had been a nurse for over seven years. Susan loved helping and caring for people in their last days. She was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother and was a friend to all who knew her. Susan was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Susan are her loving husband of thirty two years, Alva Horne of Blairsville, three sons and two daughter in laws, Anthony and Sabrina Horne of Longwood, FL, James and Carie Horne of Blairsville, William Horne of Longwood, FL, two brothers, James Hilton and Tracy Hilton, four Sisters Ginny McCurley, Linda Levesque, Mary Anne Varna and Pat Laroque, five grandchildren, Jacob, Austin, Matthew, Halle and Amberlee Horne, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 11, 2006 at 1:00pm from the funeral home chapel with Chaplin Nancy Joyner officiating. Special music will Susan’s favorite hymns. The following gentleman will serves as pallbearers, Anthony, James and William Horne, Skip Waylett, Jerry Smith, Joey Hughes, Mary Phillips and Linda Tatum. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Regency Hospice Staff. Interment will follow in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.

MARGARET NELL McCUTCHIN
Mrs. Margaret Nell McCutchin age 76 of Dean Gap Acres Blairsville passed away on Monday May 8, 2006 following an extended illness. Mrs. McCutchin was born on Oct.17, 1929 in Albuquerque, NM., The daughter of the late Arthur Milligan and the late Ada Neel Milligan. She loved to knit and sew. Her favorite past time was studying the Bible. She was a great wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Watson and two brothers, Paul Milligan and Neel Milligan. Mrs. McCutchin was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses of Blairsville.
Surviving Mrs. McCutchin are her loving husband of fifty four years, James McCutchin of Blairsville, two daughters and one son in law, Charlotte Ann Lurvey of Tampa, FL, Deborah Nell and Ronald Kelley of Athens, AL., one brother, Bob Milligan of Santa Fe, NM., two sister in laws, Madelin Moore and Margaret Milligan, two nieces, Donna Begier and Adele Bryan, nephew, Laverne Moore, five grandchildren, Karen Bynum, Jenny Neidhardt, Jeffrey, Kristi and Heather Lurvey, three great-grandchildren, Lily Neidhandt, Hailey Bynum and Kailey Neidhardt, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday May 10, 2006 at 11:00am from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with Minister Rod Scogin officiating. Flowers are accepted or in lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Kingdom Hall in Mrs. McCutchin’s memory.
