KATHERINE (KAY) HOURIHAN
Mrs. Katherine (Kay) Hourihan age 103 of Blairsville passed away on Tuesday March 13, 2007 in the Union County Nursing Home. She was born in Brookline, MA, to the late Julia Kelley Carey and John T. Carey. She was preceded in death by her brother Frank Carey, her sister, Ellen Carey Clark and her daughter, Maureen Hourihan O’Brien. Her late husband, George Donovan Hourihan died in 1951 and Kay remained a widow for the past fifty five years. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, George V. and Tina Hourihan of Blairsville, A brother-in-law, J. B. Hourihan of Gainesville, FL, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
She attended business college in Boston and worked in the Boston area. In 1934 she married George D. Hourihan, A Miami Native and Pioneer, and moved to Miami. She remained in Miami until moving to Blairsville in 1999, to live with her son and daughter-in-law, George and Tina Hourihan. Kay worked as a Judicial Secretary and retired from the State of Florida. In retirement she worked as a secretary for doctors and attorneys.She also did church and hospital volunteer work. She was a world traveler and had visited the Far East, Middle East and Europe.
Kay was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Miami where she attended Mass daily. In Blairsville she was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. A memorial Mass will be held at a later date at St. Francis of Assisi in Blairsville and also at Holy Rosary in Miami. There will be no viewing and interment will be at the City of Miami cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Francis of Assissi Building Fund Kitchen Account.

Donald Willis
Mr. Donald Willis, age 85, of Havenwood Rd., Blairsville passed away Friday, June 14, 2013 at Union General Hospital. He was born March 8, 1928 in Kansas City, KS. Mr. Willis moved to this area in 1999 from Ocala, FL. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Willis was an avid golfer, and was a great husband, father and grandfather. He was retired from Western Electric. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Willis in 2009, son, Donald Willis, Jr. in 1980, mother, Mabel O’Brien in 2005 and half brother, Jack O’Brien in 1994. Mr. Willis was of the Eckankar Faith.
Survivors include sons, Gary Willis of Paola, KS and Kirk Willis of Blairsville, GA, five grandchildren also survive.
No services are planned at this time.

Margaret M. Henderson
Mrs. Margaret M. Henderson, age 100, of Bel Aire Dr., Hiawassee passed away Friday, June 14, 2013 at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home following and extended illness. She was born November 18, 2013 in Portsmouth, VA to the late Clyde Earl and Katherine (Waller) Merritt. She moved to this area in 2000 from Augusta, GA. Mrs. Henderson was a member and former President of the Augusta Garden Club. She enjoyed all the activities in the nursing home, but Bingo was her favorite. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis A. Henderson, son, Otis Henderson, Jr. and sister, Doris McDowell. Mrs. Henderson was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Augusta.
Survivors include children, Joseph and Rebecca Henderson of Orlando, FL, Kate and Mickey Waagner of Valdosta, GA and Maggie Donnell of Gainesville, FL, nine grandchildren, Joseph “Chip” Henderson, Julie M. Vecchio, David M. Henderson, Sherry Freeman, Susan Knotts, Blake Waagner, Krista Waagner, Brooke Tudeen and David Tudeen, eight great grandchildren.
The family is planning a private family service.

Arthur Willis Carter
Mr. Arthur Willis Carter age 64 of Taylor Henson Rd. Murphy formerly of Blairsville, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, June 16, 2013 following a battle with cancer. Mr. Carter was born on July 26, 1948 in McAdenville, NC, the son of the late George Arthur Carter and the late Flossie Gertrude Griggs Carter. Arthur had the best show exhibit in the Georgia Bridal Show in Atlanta in 2001. Before he retired he was a Master Carpenter. He had built the Christmas Village in Copperhill. He enjoyed listening to music and spending time with Sue and his family. The last few years he and Sue sold produce. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ted L. Carter. Arthur was a member of the Cartersville Church of God.
Surviving Mr. Carter are his companion in life, Sue Epperson of Murphy, one son Arthur “Scott” Willis Carter Jr. of Lawrenceville, GA, one brother and sister-in-law, Toney and Christina Carter of McAenville, NC, step children, Jimmy and Aretha Metzdorf of Murphy, Shawn and Brandi Metzdorf of Murphy, Richard and Angie Metzdorf of Carrollton, OH, Nathaniel and Amanda Hooper of Blairsville, Xylana (John Greenwich) of Mineral Bluff, GA, Crystal Auberry of Ellijay, GA, sixteen grandchildren, one great grandchild, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 245 Taylor Henson Rd., Murphy, NC. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to help to defray expenses in Arthur’s memory.

Lorraine E. Allen
Lorraine E. Allen, age 88, sister of Larry Jones of Blairsville, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2013 after a long illness. She was born in Brockton, Mass. December 31, 1924. She graduated with the class of 1942 from Brockton High School. Mrs. Allen pursued a career in nursing at St. Luke’s Hospital in Baltimore, MD. In 1947 she joined the Los Angeles Visiting Association and later worked at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital. In 1954 she enlisted in the Navy and was commissioned Lieutenant in the U. S. Navy Nurse Corps serving in Guam and Japan. In Japan she met her husband to be Wilson G. Allen, a Navy Chief Storekeeper.
They made their home in the San Francisco Bay area. Wilson passed away in 1980. Lorraine has been a resident of Brasstown Manor in Hiawassee since February 2004. Interment will be in the Angel of Prayer Memorial Garden at St. Clare’s Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers make memorial donations in Lorraine’s memory to St. Clare’s Episcopal Church Flower Fund.

Mr. Otis Eugene Rich age 79 of Mauney Rd. Blairsville passed away on Saturday Jan 5, 2013 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Rich was born on May 5, 1933 in Union County, the son of the late Garnett Rich and the late Edith Hughes Rich. He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. Eugene was a veteran of the US Army of the Korean and Vietnam Wars with over twenty years of Military service. His favorite passions were farming and cattle. He looked forward going to the cattle sale. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by a son, Justin Larue Rich in 2010. Mr. Rich was a member of Bunker Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Rich are his loving wife of sixty years, Grapell Payne Rich of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Ernie Sistrunk of LaFayette, LA., three sons and two daughters-in-law, Tony Rich of Blairsville, Eddie and Marie Rich of Blairsville, Tim and Rebecca Rich of Blairsville, four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Exola Gates of Blairsville, Leola Lyons of Blairsville, Sue and Ronnie Caudell of Kennesaw, GA, Evaline and Frank Burkart of Kennesaw, eleven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Jan. 9, 2013 at 11:00 am from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Sistrunk officiating. Special music will be presented the Kelly Trio. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Phillip Tharp, Eddie, James, Brad and Cary Rich, Steven Hardin, Steve Worley David Franklin and Gary Thomas. Interment will follow in the Meadow View cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the North GA. Honor Guard. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening anytime after 6:00pm.

Lillian Cordilla McClure
Mrs. Lillian Cordilla McClure, age 93, of Gum Log RD, Blairsville passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Union General Hospital following a brief illness. She was born January 5, 1920 in Union County to the late Jim and Gracie Rogers Miller, and had lived in Woodstock, GA for several years before moving back to Union County. She attended Ebenezer Baptist Church. Mrs. McClure was preceded in death by her husband, William Glawfus McClure in 1988.
Survivors include her children, Jean McKenzy of Blairsville, Maxine and Mike Gant of Blairsville, William Ray McClure of Blairsville and Clara Jo Mote of Kennesaw, GA, nine grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, January 11, 2012 at Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery with Preacher Ray Potts officiating.

Lois Alma Peters
Mrs. Lois Alma Peters, age 88, of Denver, NC passed away Friday, January 11, 2013 at Carolina Medical Center in Lincolnton, NC following an extended illness. She was born December 1, 1924 in Cherokee County, NC to the late William and Anna Lunsford Garrett. She had lived in Denver, NC since 1989 moving there from Tampa, FL. Mrs. Peters was preceded in death by a son, Willie (Bill) Clemmons, her husband Carl Peters in 1997. She was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include children, Carolyn Brooks of Seneca, SC, Marvin and Janice Huskins of Dallas, NC, Charles Huskins of Marble, NC, Clara Mae and Bill Brock of Denver, NC, Gary Huskins, of Denver, NC, Theresa Clemmons of Ky, Jeannie Moore of Tampa, FL, Terry Clemmons of Jacksonville, FL, brother, Bill Garrett of High Point, NC, sister, Myrtle Chambers of Marble, NC, twenty three grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, several other relatives and friends also survive.
