Mr. Wendell Frank “Kook” Carr, age 72, of Blairsville went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 8, 2011 while vacationing in Seattle, WA. Mr. Carr was born on June 3, 1939 in Bangor, ME. He was the son of the late Harold Tubbs Carr and the late Doris Mae Tarr Carr. Wendell graduated from Bangor High School in 1957 and moved to West Palm Beach, FL. in the fall of 1960. He married Lauretta (MacDonald) of Hamden, ME on June 23, 1961. He worked at R.C.A. in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. He retired in June of 2002 from Palm Beach County School District where he worked as a Facilities Evaluator in Federal Programs. Mr. Carr was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Carr are his loving wife of fifty years, Lauretta Carr of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Micki Carr of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie-Jo and Keith Barley of Pace, FL, four grandchildren, Michael and Mandi Carr of Blairsville, James and Eric Oliver of Pace, FL, two brothers, Harold (Alice) of Brevard, NC, Robert (Barbara) of Pickens, SC, one brother-in-law, Richard Blaisdell of Ft. Worth, TX. He was preceded in death by his sister, Hazel Carr Blaisdell. Several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ also survive.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. at the Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. George Cline officiating. Special music was presented by Patsy Phillips and Danita Kennedy. The following gentleman served as pallbearers: Michael Carr, James Oliver, Eric Oliver, Clarence Phillips, Jim Ackles and Tim Nightengale. Interment followed in the Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Men’s Ministry of Antioch Baptist Church in memory of Mr. Carr. The family met with friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-9p.m.

Jessie “Pat” Bell
Jessie “Pat” Bell passed away peacefully at Stonehenge assisted living on Feb. 7, 2013.
She was born in Atlanta, Georgia September 29, 1924 to Lucius Jeremiah and Helen Gartrell.
She was a Sergeant in the US Army where she was an electroencephalograph technician at the neurosurgery center of Kennedy general Hospital. In 1946 she received an award for meritorious conduct in the performance of her military duties.
She was married to William Braswell Bell Jr. on September 22, 1962 in Atlanta, Georgia.
Pat enjoyed hiking and worked with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy for a brief time. Pat liked to write and was working on a book. She also wrote many short stories as well as writing articles for the Stonehenge News Letter, where she resided for the past two years. Pat and Bill lived in Franklin, North Carolina until they moved to Stonehenge.
A memorial service will be held at Stonehenge assisted Living on February 12th, with Rev. Hubert Legg officiating. She is survived by her husband William “Bill” Bell.

VLADIMIR PASHOV
Mr. Vladimir Pashov age 52 of Isabella Ave. Copperhill passed away on Thursday Feb. 7, 2013 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Pashov was born on Sept. 14, 1960 in Davnia, Bulgaria, the son of Raycho Christov Pashov and Ianka Gindova. Vladimir had made his home in Copperhill for one year, moving here from Bulgaria. He was a loving father, son and grandfather. Mr. Pashov was of the Christian faith.
Surviving Mr. Pashov are his parents, Raycho Christov and Ianka Gindova Pashov of Bulgaria, three daughters, Raliza Pashov, Dessislava Pashov and Vivian Pashov, two grandchildren, Violet and Azura, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to help defray expenses.

Rev. Ben Lewis
Rev. Ben B. Lewis age 58 of Beale Drive Blairsville passed away on Saturday Feb. 9, 2013 in the Erlanger Medical Center following an extended illness. Ben was born on Oct. 27, 1954 in Brunswick, GA and grew up on St. Simons Island., the son of the late Bennie B. Lewis and the late Evelyn Bullard Lewis. Having graduated from Glynn Academy in Brunswick GA in 1972, he then attended and graduated from Andrew Jr. College in Cuthbert, GA. Ben graduated from Shorter College with a degree in Early Childhood Education. He also earned his Masters of Divinity from the Candler School of Theology from Emory University. Ben was called into the Ministry during his childhood. He started his Discipleship with the Methodist Church in 1977. From 1977 to the present he has served these churches: Floyd Springs UMC- Armuchee, GA, Mt. Tabor UMC-Armuchee, GA, Cool Springs UMC- Clarksville, GA, Alley’s Chapel- Clarksville, GA, Lewis Memorial UMC- Augusta, GA, Franklin UMC- Franklin, GA, Trinity on the Hill- Augusta, GA, Second Ave. UMC- Rome, GA, Lavonia UMC- Lavonia, GA, Union County FUMC- Blairsville, GA. Rev. Lewis had been Pastor at Union County FUMC for the past seven years.
Surviving Rev. Lewis are his loving wife of thirty five years, Gwen Whorton Lewis of Blairsville, two sons and daughters-in-law, Dustin and Natalie Lewis of St. Simons Island, GA, Matthew and Katie Lewis of Rome, GA, mother-in-law, Carol Whorton of Cave Spring, GA, a host of church family, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Feb. 13, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church of Union County with the Rev. Mike Cloyd, Rev. Stan Wallace and Dr. Gerald Thurman officiating. Special music will be presented by Jeff Bauman and Keith DeFoor. Serving as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be United Methodist Men. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the MAC fund of FUMC Union County or to the American Cancer Society in memory of Rev. Lewis. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-8pm.

RICHARD RAWDON DOYLE
Mr. Richard Doyle was born December 5, 1941 in Queens, N.Y. Richard went to Heaven on August 9, 2011 at home in Murphy, N.C. lovingly cared for by his wife Geraldine and the compassionate caregivers of Good Shepherd Hospice.
Richard graduated from Farmingdale High School. He owned and operated Doyle’s Automotive in Bethpage, Long Island for many years.
In 1989, Mr. Doyle moved to Palm Coast, Florida. Richard was a U.S. Coast Guard licensed captain and a state certified fire fighter and emergency medical technician. He received special awards for his service "above and beyond" the call of duty from Flagler Beach Fire Department and from Palm Coast Fire Rescue. He was also certified by Flagler County Civil Defense for handling of OSHA Hazardous Materials. He received Letters of Commendation for saving lives in several instances from the Flagler Beach Fire Department, some of them ocean rescues. Richard was fleet captain of the boat club in Palm Coast. He was awarded Fireman of the Year in 1991.
Richard reopened Doyle’s Automotive Service in Palm Coast, Florida, operating the business until his retirement due to health reasons in 2004. At that time, he and his wife, Geraldine, built a home in the mountains at Murphy, N.C. where they resided from May of 2006 until Jesus called him home.Richard was pre-deceased by his parents, Joe & Ethel Doyle of Palm Coast, F.L., sister Janice of N.Y., and brother Wesley of F.L.
Richard is survived by his loving wife Geraldine (Foley) Doyle, two daughters; Louren Doyle of East Northport, N.Y. and Jennifer Vatrango of Palm Coast, F.L., one stepson Greg Rodriguez of Deltona, F.L., grandson Anthony Rodriguez of Deltona, F.L., granddaughters; Ariel Rodriguez of Deltona, F.L., Hailey Vetrano of Palm Coast, F.L., and his sweet dog Tiffani.
Interment and graveside services will be held at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y. on Friday Aug. 12, 2011 at 10:00 am. A memorial service will be held at St. Williams Catholic Church in Murphy, N.C. approximately two weeks following interment. In lieu of flowers, please send cards and remembrances to Mrs. Geraldine Doyle, c/o 25 Jakes Way, Murphy, N.C. 28960.

GENEVA SHEPHERD BRYSON
Mrs. Geneva Shepherd Bryson, age 95, of Hedge Lane Blairsville, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2011 in Union General Hospital. Mrs. Bryson was born February 9, 1916 in Union County a daughter of the late John and Ellen Tanner Shepherd. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-great-grandmother and great-great-great-grandmother, and loved gardening and sewing. Mrs. Bryson was preceded in death by her husband, John Bryson in 1953, sons Ward Bryson in 2006 and Kenneth Bryson in 2008, grandson, Michael Bryson in 2003, three brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Bryson was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Bryson are daughter, Carolyn Stephens of Young Harris, GA, grandchildren, Denise Stephens of Young Harris, GA, Stacey and Curtis King of Blairsville, GA, Janice Cobb of St. Augustine, FL, and Cindy Bryson of Blairsville, GA. four step-grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, many great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, August 11, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home with Rev. Guy Bradley officiating. Special music will be presented by Cody King. P the following gentleman will serve as pallbearers will be Curtis King, Cody King, Larry Helton, David Carroll, Jack Jones and Charles Satterfield. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant #1 Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 until 9 p.m.

BENNY JOE HOLLOWAY
Mr. Benny Joe Holloway age 64 of Tara Lane Marietta formerly of Blairsville passed away on Wednesday Aug. 10, 2011 in the LeConte Medical Center in Sevierville, TN. Following a brief illness. Mr. Holloway was born on April 28, 1947 in Union County, GA, the son of the late Elbert Bristol Holloway and the late Vanita Mae Carroll Holloway. Benny Joe always enjoyed helping others and was always making everyone laugh. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and was a friend to many. He was preceded in death by a son, Danny Holloway in 2000 and a brother, Austin Holloway in 2011. Mr. Holloway was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mr. Holloway are his loving wife of thirty six years, Sharon Spencer Holloway of Marietta, by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mindy Lynn and Sean Mabe of Powder Springs, GA, Jennifer and Michael Throne of Hawaii, one sister, Nancy Johnston of Ellijay, three brothers, Harvey Holloway of Griffin, GA, Hugh Holloway of Griffin and J. D. Holloway of Blairsville, four grandchildren, Kami, Madison, Abby and Katelyn, several nieces, nephews, cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Monday Aug. 15, 2011 at 11:00 am from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Ron Daniels officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Junior Carroll, Sean Mabe, Mike Throne, Darrell Allen, Aaron Patterson, and Mark Spencer. The following gentleman will serve as honorary pallbearers, Ray Moore . Interment will follow in the Dillard Chapel Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6-9pm.

Thomas J. Argay
Mr. Thomas J. Argay, age 74, of Craig Thompson RD, Blairsville passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013 at his home on Thursday, February 7, 2013 following and extended illness. He was born September 22, 1938 in Queens, NY to the late Louis and Mary Quinn Argay. Mr. Argay graduated from Sayville High School on Long Island. Mr. Argay joined the U.S. Navy and served for 4 years, and was in Beirut, Lebanon. He was a member of the VFW. He worked at Republic Airlines Avaition on Long Island and General Motors. He moved to Punta Gorda, FL and worked as a concrete finisher. Mr. Argay then worked for Winn-Dixie where he retired in 2002. He then moved to Blairsville, GA where he enjoyed making many new friends, fishing and the beautiful scenery. He attended the First Free Will church in Hayesville.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Argay of the home, children, Suzanne and Mark Cecci of Blairsville, John and Beth Argay of Venice, FL and Peter and Rebecca Argay of Lagrange, GA, brother, George Argay of NY, sister-in-law, Susan Kizziah, of TN, grandchildren, Mark Cecci, Jr., Elizabeth Cecci and Michael Argay.
Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Chris Rumfeldt officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service. In lieu of flowers make memorial contributions to Regency Hospice of Hiawassee.
