JERRY "BUCK" CLAY YOUNG
Mr. Jerry "Buck" Clay Young age 61 of State Hwy 66 Young Harris, GA. passed away on Thursday Feb, 24, 2011 in the N. E. GA. Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Young was born on April 9, 1949 in Towns County, the son of the late Lawrence Young and the late Della Marie Shook Young. He was a native and lifelong resident of Towns County. Buck enjoyed watching racing. He was a loving father, brother and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and also by four sisters, Helen, Hildred, Mildred and Dorothy. Mr. Young was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mr. Young are one daughter, Carol Jean Chastain of Blairsville, one sister, Cathy Wimpey and significant other, Larry Hamilton of Clarksville, five brothers and sister-in-laws, Ray and Opal Young of Blairsville, Dennis and Joy Young of Young Harris, Dwight and Debbie Young of Blairsville, Tony and Charlotte Young of Young Harris, Gary Young and his significant other, Detta Dills of Young Harris, one grandchild, Shelby Chastain, several nieces, nephews, cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011 at 2:00pm from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Rogers, Rev. Bill Dyer and Rev. Jeff Young officiating. Special music will be presented by Brandon and Austin Davenport, Sonya and Charlotte Young. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, William, Justin, Dustan, Jason and Jerick Young and Larry Brown. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Towns County Sheriffs Department. Interment will follow in the Old Pine Log Baptist Church cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6-9pm.

JOSEPHINE MARIE DION
Mrs. Josephine Marie Dion, age 103 of Sharp Top Circle Blairsville, passed away on Saturday February 26, 2011 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Dion was born in Charlotte, Vermont the daughter of the late Louis Poulin and the late Gertrude Bisonette. Josephine moved to the area five years ago from Burlington, Vermont. She loved watching Gunsmoke and Bonanza.Mrs.Dion is preceded in death by three sons Edward Dion, Oliver Dion and Robert Godbout, a daughter Barbara Remillard, a husband Alphonse Dion and her eight siblings. Mrs. Dion was a member of the St. Josephs Catholic Church.
Surviving Mrs. Dion are five daughters and four sons-in-law, Chris and Leonard Bufano of Blairsville, GA, Linda and David Miller of Burlington, VT., Jackie and Jack Beaudoin of Barre, VT., Lorraine Contois of VA, and Alma Bourgualt of MI, ., a son and daughter-in-law Tommy and Jean Godbout of Arcadia, FL, thirty four grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and numerous great-great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Services will be held at a later date in Vermont. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, the family asks that memorials be made to Mission to Serve c/o Chris Bufano, 384 Sharp Top Circle Blairsville, ga.30512 in memory of Mrs. Dion.

PATRICIA ANN DYER
Mrs. Patricia Ann Dyer age 70 of Trackrock Church Rd. Blairsville passed away on Tuesday March 1, 2011 at her home following a brief illness. Mrs. Dyer was born on Aug. 25, 1940 in Ridgeway, SC., the daughter of the late Monkton and Alberta Branham. She had worked as an Administrative Assistant with Gwinnett County Police Department for several years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was always a giving and caring person. Patricia was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby and Pete Branham. Mrs. Dyer was a member of Old Liberty Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Dyer are her loving husband of forty eight years, Roger Allen Dyer of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Keith Pitts of Lawrenceville, GA, two sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and LeeAnn Dyer of Monroe, GA, Jon and Pat Dyer of El Paso, TX, seven grandchildren, Brittney, Taylor, Tyler, Michael, Austin, Alex and Julianne, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday March 4, 2011 at 1:00pm from the Old Liberty Baptist Church with the Rev. Harley Hunter and Rev. Waymon Lovell officiating. Special music will be presented by the Old Liberty Church Choir and Michael Pitts. Mrs. Dyer will lie in state at the church on Friday from 12-1:00pm.The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Sonny, Melvin and Kenneth Dyer, Doug Freeman, Gene Wilson and Michael Pitts. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be, A. J. Wimpey, Herbert Dyer, Eugene Cook, Troy Collins, Gary Harkins and Danny Stephens. Flowers are accepted or in lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Old Liberty Baptist Church or to Old Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery fund in memory of Mrs. Dyer. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening 5-8pm.

GORDON BLUEFORD DYER
Mr. Gordon Blueford Dyer age 71 of Pat Haralson Drive Blairsville passed away on Wednesday March 2, 2011 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Dyer was born on April 18, 1939 in Union County, the son of the late Vernon Dyer and the late Pauline Watkins Dyer. Gordon was a veteran of the US National Guard. He had retired from the US Postal Service with over thirty five years of service. He was a member of the American Legion. Gordon enjoyed fishing and playing poker. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Newton, Ralph and Robert Dyer. Mr. Dyer was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mr. Dyer are two sons and one daughter-in-law, Brian and Andrea Dyer of Lawrenceville, GA, Greg Dyer of Atlanta, one brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Sara Dyer of Blairsville, two grandchildren, Eli Dyer and Alden Dyer, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 5, 2011 at 11:00am from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Keith Jones officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the North GA. Honor Guard. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6-8pm.

WILLIAM "BILL" WILSON

Mr. William (Better Known Bill) Rupert Wilson age 69 of Memory Lane Blairsville passed away on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Wilson was born on June 5, 1939 in Union County, the son of the late Abe Lincoln Wilson and the late Mary Eliza Reece Wilson. Bill served in the US Coast Guard and was a member of American Legion Post 121, N.GA.Honor Guard and a member of Union-Towns Home Builders Assc. He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. He owned and operated Wilson’s Heating and Air for many years. Mr. Wilson was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
Surviving Mr. Wilson are his loving wife of forty one years, Gertrude Louise Pitts Wilson of Blairsville, one daughter, Laura Chapman of Decatur, GA. one son, Michael Wilson of Smyna, GA, three sisters, Joyce Collins of Gainesville, Martha Deavers of Blairsville, Carol Nix of Blairsville two brothers and sister-in-laws, Albert and Nancy Wilson of Wales, MI., Thomas and Alice Wilson of Johns Island, SC., one grandson, Deven, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday Aug. 7, 2008 at 3:00pm from the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Bone officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be members of American Legion Post 121 and Members of the N. Ga. Honor Guard. Interment will follow in the Shady Grove Methodist Church Cemetery with the N. GA. Honor Guard conducting military honors. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-3pm.

HADLEY EUGENE McCLURE
Mr. Hadley Eugene McClure age 71 of Murphy Hwy Blairsville passed away on Monday Aug. 4, 2008 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. McClure was born on Sept. 7, 1936 in Cherokee, County, NC. the son of the late Thomas McClure and the late Amy Lovingood McClure. He was a lifelong resident of Union County and was well known to many through his businesses, McClure’s Bargain Center Furniture Store which he operated for over twenty years and McClure’s Hardware Store which he owned and operated for several years. He also had a Real Estate Business and for years was a building contractor. Hadley was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Porter, Loyd, Jerry, Noah and Albert McClure, three sisters, Virginia Richards, Pearl Richards and Emma Jane Little. Mr. McClure was a member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. McClure are his loving wife of fifty four years, Geneva McClure of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Charlie Padgett of Blairsville, two sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Kellie McClure of Blairsville, Jimmy and Vickie McClure of Blairsville, one brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Marie McClure of Fannin County, thirteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Aug. 6, 2008 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Loyce Waters and Rev. Brent Chatham officiating. Special music will be presented by Regina Putnam and Casey Jones. MATTHEW GAGE PATTERSON
Little Matthew Gage Patterson age three months of Mary’s Way Young Harris went to be with Jesus on Saturday August 9, 2008.Gage was born on May 1, 2008 in Union County, the son of Matthew Patterson and Amanda Chambers Patterson. Gage was the sunshine of his parents, brother and sister’s lives. He touched the lives of all who held him.
Surviving Gage are his parents, Matthew and Amanda Patterson of Young Harris, one brother, Kalob Tanner, one sister, Kaytlin Patterson, both of Young Harris, grandparents, Richard Chambers and Joy Lance both of Warne, NC, Debbie and Arnold Patterson and Cindy Bryson all of Blairsville, great grandmothers, Mary Bryson and Daisy Mae Patterson, both of Blairsville, great-great grandmother, Geneva Bryson of Blairsville, several aunts, uncles, cousins, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Aug. 13, 2008 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Billy Stiles, Rev. Junior Maney and Rev. Glenn Tanner officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Brian and Christopher Patterson, Steve Beaver and Mark Mulkey. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Kalob Tanner, Federico Urbano, Chuck Ginosky, Donny Bovee and Marshall Cornett. Interment will follow in the Old Brasstown Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Fred Thomas Whalen age 71 of Bald Mtn. Rd. Blairsville formerly of Jonesboro, GA. passed away on Monday August 11, 2008 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Whalen was born on June 2, 1937 in Detroit, MI., the son of the late Otto Whalen and the late Bertha Bainer Whalen. Fred grew up in Columbus, OH. He was a man of many talents and was always young at heart with a super sense of humor. Mr. Whalen was a member of the Nazarene Church.
Surviving Mr. Whalen are his loving wife of twenty years, Carolyn "Jane" Simpson Whalen of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Greg Felix of Cincinnati, OH, two sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Kim Whalen of Columbus, OH, Steve and Sherri Whalen of Columbus, step children, David Price of Lagrange, GA, Doug and Martha Price of Jackson, GA, Daryl and Susan Price of Blairsville, Dwayne and Sylvia Price of Villa Rica, GA, one sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Ron Conley of Knoxville, TN., one brother, Tim Whalen of Columbus, OH. eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
