MICHAEL EDWARD STEVENS
Mr. Michael Edward Stevens age 56 of Brasstown Rd. Murphy passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Stevens was born on November 10, 1955 in Indiana the son of Lydia Stevens. Michael was a loving family man who enjoyed spending time with all of his family. His hobbies included drawing and doing puzzles. Michael was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Michael are his loving companion of twenty five years, Mary E. Staats of Turtle Town, TN., all of his North Carolina Family, seven sisters, one brother, nine grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday Nov. 3, 2012 at 1:00pm from the residence at 861 Brasstown Rd Murphy with President Caron officiating. The family will meet with friends following the services.

GARNETT TALMADGE COLLINS
Mr. Garnett Talmadge Collins, age 76, of Lower Owltown Rd. Blairsville passed away peacefully on Saturday June 11, 2011 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Collins was born on October 29, 1934 in Union County, the son of the late Arthur Collins and the late Neoma Collins.He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. Garnett enjoyed farming and growing things. He loved being around people and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He worked at Brasstown Bald for several years shuttling people to the top from the parking lot, a job which he truly loved. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Cecil, Austin and E. J. Collins. Mr. Collins attended Shady Grove Methodist Church.
Surviving Mr. Collins are his loving wife of 53 years, Charlotte Nix Collins of Blairsville, two daughters and one son-in-law, Dr. Joy (Collins) and Gary Kitchens of Snellville, GA, Becky (Collins) Plott of Grayson, one brother and sister-in-law, Farris and Ruby Collins of Blairsville, two sisters, Lavada Burkhalter of Lula, GA, Lois Plott of Gainesville, five grandchildren, Sarah and Adam Emmett, Dan and Stevie Kitchens, Haley and Austin Walker, Hannah Plott and Hadrian Plott, one great-granddaughter, Alaina Emmett, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 2:00 pm from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Bob Bone and Rev. Winfred Pitts officiating. Special music will be presented by Scott Lance and Gary Kitchens. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-9pm.

BETTY A. BROWN
Mrs. Betty A. Brown age 87 of Mtn. Lake Blvd. Blairsville passed away on Saturday June 11, 2011 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mrs. Brown was born on August 11, 1923 in Plainwell, MI., the daughter of the late Edward Ament and the late Sally Wigginton Ament. Betty was a loving mother and aunt and was a friend to many. She spent her life raising her family. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Ament, a sister, Beverly Barr and a nephew, Bobby Ament. Mrs. Brown was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Surviving Mrs. Brown are one son, James (Jim) H. Brown of Blairsville, four nephews, David Cummings of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Phillip Cummings of Dawsonville, GA, Mark Cummings of Bronxsville, NY, and Bill Ament of St. Pete, FL, one niece, Gayle Lorentz of Kalamazoo, MI., many other family members and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday June 15, 2011 at 10:00am from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Richard Wise officiating. Special music will be presented by Ron Gaucher. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in memory of Mrs. Brown. Interment will follow in St. Claire’s Memory Gardens The family will meet with friends following the services at the church.

MARIE LOUISE FISHER
Mrs. Marie Fisher, Mame to her many friends, passed away at Union General Hospital in Blairsville, GA, on Sunday, June 12, 2011 after a long fight with Emphysema. She was 74 years old. Mrs. Fisher was born on August 15, 1936 in New York City, NY, the daughter of the late Andy De Pienne and the late Ann Brady. "Mame" was a model, an artist, a great ballroom dancer and a great cook. She was also a super house keeper. She loved to write poems, animals, gardening and card playing. Mrs. Fisher was the loving wife of Bill Fisher for fifty-seven great years. He loved her so very much.
Surviving Marie are her loving husband, Bill Fisher of Blairsville, daughter and son-in-law Terri and Eric Vance of Ocoee, FL; son and future daughter-in-law Gregg Fisher and Lou Ann Johnson of Blairsville, GA; three grandchildren Alexander Vance, Jessica Anderson and Dustin Fisher; several nieces, nephews and many other friends survive.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Regency Hospice of Hiawassee in memory of Mrs. Fisher.

US ARMY WWII
Mr. D.L. Garrett Sr. age 86 passed away at Warren Hospital in Hazel Park, Michigan on Monday, June 13, 2011 following a brief illness. Mr. Garrett was born on April 5, 1924 in Hiawassee, GA, the son of the late Lazrus Boss Garrett and the late Sophia Ledford Garrett. After receiving his high school diploma, D. L. served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He also received the WWII Victory Medal. Mr. Garrett was of the Baptist Faith.
Surviving Mr. Garrett are his loving wife of forty nine years, Lillian Mason Garrett of Hazel Park, MI., sons and daughters-in-law D.L. Jr and Gloria Garrett of MI., Charles and Shirley Garrett of Blairsville, Sid and Barbara Garrett of Blairsville, and Mike and Barbara Garret of Crawfordville, GA, stepson, Woodrow Marcum and a step daughter, Darlene Marcum both of Hazel Park, MI., sisters, Faye Barfield of Douglas, GA. and Dallas Walls of Hiawassee, sister and brother-in-law Magnus and Loy Hamby of Blairsville, Many other relatives and friends also survive.
Graveside services will be held on Friday June 17, 2011 at 2:30pm from the New Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Carroll Holbrooks officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the North GA. Honor Guard . The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Steve Ballard, Terry Collins, Johnny Hamby, Jacob Queen, S.K. Queen and William Mason. Interment will follow at the New Harmony Baptist Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Friday from 12 – 2:00pm.

JENNIE C. TRAINA
Mrs. Jennie C. Traina age 92 passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 27, 2010 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Traina was born on Feb. 5, 1918 in Tampa, FL, the daughter of the late Vincent Centinaro and the late Maria Perrone Centinaro. Jennie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, John G. Traina in 2003, four brothers, Norman, Jimmy, Jasper and Joe and also four sisters, Annie, Mary, Katie and Concha. Mrs. Traina was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving Mrs. Traina are two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Dennis Lopez of Blairsville, Rose Ann and Bob Buning of Homosassa Springs, FL, three grandchildren, J. J. and Dan Walts, Denny Lopez and David Buning, two great-grandchildren, BeBe Walts and Jake Walts, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Mrs. Betty Asdell Shank age 63 of Kimbrell Lane Blairsville formerly of Port Charlotte, FL, Falling Waters W. VA. and also of Hancock, MD. passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 28, 2010 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs Shank was born on June 12, 1947 in Annapolis, MD., the daughter of the late Guy Taylor and the late Florence Peeling Taylor. She had been employed with Verizon Telephone Company for over twenty eight years. Betty had been volunteering for several organizations for over thirty years. The most recent was for the Union County Auxiliary, The SAFE House, The Union County Animal Thrift Store and the Blairsville Cancer Center. Betty was a member of the Fellowship of the Hills Church.
Surviving Mrs. Shank are her loving husband, Ronald Shank of Blairsville, two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Gordon Crouch of Woodstock, GA, Annette and Garth Munroe of Arnold, MD., two brothers and one sister-in-law, Donald and Corrine Peeling of Leonardtown, MD., Kenneth Taylor of Baltimore, MD., five grandchildren, Ryan and Brandon Crouch, Danielle and Jenna Bellante and Trinity Munroe, many other family and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010 at 2:00pm from the Fellowship of the Hills Church with the Rev. Martin Duncan. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mrs. Shank.

EDWARD JAMES RONDE
Mr. Edward James Ronde’ age 59 of Blairsville passed away on Saturday July 31, 2010 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Ronde’ was born on April 9, 1951 in Hollywood, FL, the son of the late James Ronde’ and the late Roberta Buelah Beale Ronde’. Edward was a member of the Temple Terrace Masonic Lodge #330, the O. E. S. #288, a Shriner of the Egypt Temple Shrine and the Scottish Rite. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise D. Ronde’ in 1986.Mr.Ronde’ was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving Mr. Ronde’ are his loving wife of thirty two years, Rose A. Thomas Ronde’ of Blairsville, a niece, B. J. Ohliger of Foley, AL., his favorite pet, Bubba, many other relatives and friends also survive.
