DELORES MICHAEL

Mrs. Delores Roena Michael age 87 of Town Creek School Rd. Blairsville passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 25, 2012 at her home following an extended illness. Mrs. Michael was born on March 29, 1925 in St. Louis, MO., the daughter of the late Edmond Lacey Turner and the late Roena Andrews Turner. Mrs. Michael had retired in 1980 as a teacher with the Ritenour Jr. High School with over twenty five years of service. Delores always had a green thumb and loved gardening. She was a member of the Blairsville Garden Club. She was a world traveler, traveling to many countries around the globe. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Michael Sr. on June 24, 2012 and by a brother, Jim Turner. Mrs. Michael was a member of Coosa United Methodist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Michael are one son and daughter-in-law, Harold "Mike" and Loretta Michael Jr. of Statesville, NC, one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Wangersheim of Fallbrook, CA, one brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Laura Lee Turner of Clover, SC., two grandchildren, Rachel and Amanda Wangersheim, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Coosa United Methodist Church in memory of Mrs. Michael.

DAVID POWELL Jr.

Mr. David Andrew Powell Jr. age 81 of Liberty Hill Rd. Blairsville passed away on Saturday July 28, 2012 in the Chatuge Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. Powell was born on August 7, 1930 in Vicennes, IN., the son of the late David A. Powell Sr. and the late Ethel Blanchard Powell. He was a veteran of the US Army of the Korean War. David enjoyed training animals and raising cattle. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William Lee and Delbert Powell and one sister, Grace Roberson. Mr. Powell was of the Christian faith.

Surviving Mr. Powell are his loving wife of seventeen years, Vendetta Rogers Powell of Blairsville, six children, Dan and Lynn Powell of Blairsville, Jim and Amber Powell and Dallas Powell of Ninevah, IN., Deanna and Jeff Nance of Campbelltown, IN., Debbie Fishback of Coccamo, IN., Denise Powell of Vincenes, IN., four step children, Danny and Jenny Holt, Mel and Christine (Waters) Holt, Nita Hollaway and Bobby and Tina Rogers all of Blairsville, one sister, Melbadean Williams of Vincennes, IN., twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, seven step great-grandchildren, two great-great-great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to your favorite humane society in memory of Mr. Powell.

Katie Pearl Carithers

Mrs. Katie Pearl Carithers, age 79, of Lightning Lane, Blairsville passed away on July 29, 2012 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Carithers was born on Feb. 5, 1933 in Miami, FL, the daughter of the late Thomas Jackson Waters and the late Queen Ellen Busby Waters. Pearl was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved Bluegrass Gospel music and reading. She was a large supporter of Camp Hosanna in Hiawassee. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Theodore Dean Carithers in 1990, two brothers, Johnny and Jackie Waters and a sister, Vera Underhill. Mrs. Carithers was a member of Shining Light Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Carithers are three daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and George Bumpus of Blairsville, Katie and John Herl of Cooper City, FL, Faye and TonyAbbott of Delta, CO., one son, Dean Carithers of Jupiter, FL, one brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Sharon Waters of Cooper City, FL, fifteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday August 2, 2012 at 10:00am from the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. with Pastor Tim Mason officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Camp Hosanna, 2201 Pope Rd. Hiawassee, Ga. 30546 in memory of Mrs. Carithers.

Roy Merlet Corn

Mr. Roy Merlet Corn, age 94, of Cheryl Lane, Blairsville passed away, Sunday, July 29, 2012 in Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Roy was born February 17, 1918 in Union County, son of the late John C. and Martha Jane Rich Corn. He was a WWII U S Army Veteran and a retired brick mason. Roy loved fishing, running the road, visiting and talking to family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather and great-great- grandfather. He was a generous and loving person and never met a stranger. Roy was a lifetime member of the American Legion and DAV. He was preceded in death by son Roger, brothers Buell, Frank, Robert and sister, Ruby Hooper. Roy was of the Baptist faith and attended Confidence United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Edith Rogers Corn of Blairsville; daughters Barbara and Bill Owens of Wadley, AL, Evelyn and Msgt. Ret. Jim Stanford of Blairsville, Sandi and Joe Scerbo of Blairsville, Shelby and David Winbigler of New Port Richey, FL, sisters, Georgia Hooper of Kannapolis, NC, Mattiebelle and Wayne Chappelear of Roswell, GA, Athea and Nelson Pickelsimer of Blairsville, brothers John and Carolyn Corn of Blairsville, GA, Bill and Betty Corn of Blue Ridge, GA, ten grandchildren, Curtis Owens, Richard Owens, John Owens, Deanna Murrel, Msgt. Alan Stanford, Tonya Kraynak, Sharla Dupuis, Elizabeth Butler, Scott Scerbo and Randall Scerbo, seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Earl Bishop, Rev. Larry Truelove and Rev. John Strickland officiating. Music will be by John Nix and Angela Holloway. Pallbearers will be Roger (Doc) Beavers, Dan Trulove, Dean Everett, Gene Cooley, Mark Cox and Dormas Sullivan. Interment will follow in New Harmony Baptist Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers you may send memorials to the American Heart Association. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

LUTHER R. "TUCKER" BLACK

Mr. Luther R. (Tucker) Black age 64 of Wolf Pen Gap Rd. Suches passed away on Wednesday Jan.30, 2008 following an extended illness. Mr. Black was born on Sept. 28, 1943 in Waynesboro, PA, the son of Luther M. Black Jr. He was a veteran of the US Army. He had lived in this area for the past twenty years.

Surviving Mr. Black are his father, Luther M. Black of PA, one brother, Terry L. Black of Chambersburg, PA, one sister, Sue Smith of Upperstrasburg, PA, many friends at Misty Meadows in Suches, many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service will be held in Pennsylvania at a later date and will be announced. In lieu of flowers if you wish, memorials may be made to Misty Meadows % The Residents Fund, 10644 Wolf Pen Gap Rd.Suches, GA.30572 in Mr. Black’s memory.

KENNETH WAYNE BRYSON

Mr. Kenneth Wayne (Better known as Little Man)Bryson age 59 of Totherow Rd. Blairsville passed away on Saturday Feb. 9, 2008 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Bryson was born on Dec. 16, 1948 in Union County, the son of the late John Bryson and Geneva Shepherd Bryson. He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. Kenneth loved hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his grandson, Cody. He was an avid guitar player and especially enjoyed picking with his grandson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ward Bryson and a nephew, Michael Bryson. Mr. Bryson was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving Mr. Bryson are his loving wife of thirty six years, Vellamae Totherow Bryson of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Curtis King of Blairsville, mother Geneva Shepherd Bryson of Blairsville, four step children, Kim Angel of Jasper, Janet and Casey Sheffield of Waleska, GA, Max Angel of Jasper, Tessa and Pete Smith of Lafayette, TN., one sister, Carolyn Stephens of Young Harris, twelve grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Monday Feb. 11, 2008 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tommy Jones officiating. Special music will be presented by Ben, Libby and Angie Burrell. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Curtis King, Cody King, Max Angel, Kim Angel, Casey Sheffield and Douglas Rogers. Interment will follow in the Liberty Hill Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6-9pm.

RUBY HAZEL PANTER CARNEY

Mrs.Ruby Hazel Panter Carney age 80 of Old Hwy 76 Morganton, GA. passed away on Saturday Feb. 9, 2008 in Fannin Regional Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Carney was born on April 27, 1927 in Fannin County. She was a native and lifelong resident of Fannin County. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Willard Arthur Panter and also her second husband, James Ira Carney, her mother, Alice Carpenter and sisters, Willa Mae White and Daisy Barnes. Mrs. Carney was a member of Hemptown Baptist Church.

Surviving Mrs. Carney are her children, Jackie and Linda Panter, James Winston and Lisa Panter, Ray Jeffrey and Renee Panter, Carol and Charles Dillingham, JoAnn and Tom Meeks, Janet and Scotty Palmer, Mary and Doug Kirkpatrick, grandchildren, Cindy and Rick Steinkamp, Lisa and Bobby Klakis, Greg Dillingham, Steve, Bret, Jenny and Josh Panter, Jenny and Carl Miller, Beth Tinnell and Tate Daniel, seven great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters, Roy and Ella Carpenter, Mable Stepp, Mary Wright, Laura and Ed Chaney, nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Monday Feb. 11, 2008 at 11:00am from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gerald Mathis and Rev. James Howard Galloway officiating. Special music will be presented by Danny Davenport. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Bret, Josh and Steve Panter, Bobby Klakis, Greg Dillingham and Rick Steinkamp. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Matt Meeks and Charles Dillingham. Interment will follow in the Morganton Baptist Church Cemetery.The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 2-4pm.

PHILLIP THOMAS "TOMMY" ABERNATHY

Mr. Phillip Thomas (Better known as Tommy) Abernathy age 22 of Carney Lane Blairsville passed away on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008 in Lumpkin County from injuries received from an automobile accident. Tommy was born on July 29, 1985 in Fannin County, the son of Phillip Robert Abernathy and Kathy Denise Atkins Abernathy. He was a native and lifelong resident of Union County and graduated Union County High School Class of 2004.He was currently attending Gainesville State College. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Carolyn Atkins in 1993.Tommy was a member of New Union Baptist Church and was attending Lebanon Baptist Church in Epworth, GA.

Surviving Tommy are his parents, Phillip and Kathy Abernathy of Blairsville, his Fiancee, Miranda Rymer of Blue Ridge, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Trenniss Elliott of Blairsville, Laura and David Pirkle of Blairsville, grandparents, Bill and Pat Abernathy and Ralph Atkins, nephews, Colby and Cameron Elliott, Aden Pirkle, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Feb. 13, 2008 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Harrison Bradley and Rev. David McLendon officiating. Special music will be presented by Jeanette Garrett and members from New Union Baptist Church and Lebanon Baptist Church Choirs. Serving as pallbearers will be Anthony Rymer, Caleb Marchent, Cody Carroll, Jeff Duke, Brent and Evan Abernathy, Brandon Brown and Tommy Shook. Flowers are accepted or in lieu of flowers if you wish, donations may be made to Building Christian Ministries in Brazil. P.O. Box 956 Blairsville, GA.30514 in Tommy’s memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening after 6:00pm
