Mr. James Howard Byers, age 78, of Lovet St. Athens, TN passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012 in Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga. James was born June 19, 1934 son of the late Floyd and Dester Shore Byers. He was a loving father, brother and grandfather. His grandchildren were his life and gave him so much joy. James was preceded in death by a daughter, Glenda Sue Byers, brothers Hansel, Hasson, Harold and Grady Byers.
Survivors include the mother of his children, Louise Odom Byers of Blairsville, children, Ron Byers of Blairsville, Jan and Johnny Thomas of Blairsville and Lisa and Scott Dial of Indian Harbour Beach, FL, sister, Shirley and Larry Chastain of Kennesaw, GA, brother, Wayne and Maria Byers of Athens, TN, grandchildren, Danny Byers, Christy Byers, Jenna Thomas, Jillian Thomas, Ashley Dial, Chris Dial, Julie Dial Elliott (Matthew), Ryan Dial (Kristin), many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lee Griggs officiating. Interment will follow in Confidence United Methodist Church Cemetery. If you wish in lieu of flowers make memorials to Confidence United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Vernon Doyle Fortenberry
Mr. Vernon Doyle Fortenberry, age 97, of Owltown RD, Blairsville passed away Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Union County Nursing Home. Mr. Fortenberry was born May 14, 1915 in Union County son of the late James W. and Maggie Addington Fortenberry. In his early live he was in the CCC’s and was also a WWII US Army Veteran and served in Germany where he received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Mr. Fortenberry retired from Burlington Textile Mill in Shannon, GA. He was a 50 year member of Shannon Masonic Lodge #100 F&AM. Mr. Fortenberry was preceded in death by his wife Frankie Summerour Fortenberry. He was a member of Coosa United Methodist Church.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, J. W. and Janice Fortenberry of Blairsville, Mitchell Fortenberry of Adairsville, Jimmy and Beverly Fortenberry of Rome and Randy and Sharon Fortenberry of Blairsville, sister, Vonerine Spiva of Calhoun, eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Earl Bishop officiating. Pallbearers will be Josh Fortenberry, Seth Fortenberry, Chris Fortenberry, Dakota Fortenberry, Chris Harrell and Bryan McWorten. Interment will follow in Coosa United Methodist Church Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites provided by Young Cane Masonic Lodge. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m.

Norman E. Zahn III
Mr. Norman E. Zahn III, age 65, of Blairsville and Indian Harbour Beach, FL passed away Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Union General Hospital. He was born in Brooklyn, NY son of the late Norman E. and Delores Coyne Zahn, SR. Mr. Zahn was a retired Guidance Counselor with Broward County Elementary School. He had lived here for the past eight years. He loved the Ocean and surfing. Mr. Zahn was a member of the NRA.
Survivors include his wife, Cheri Zahn of the home, son, Kenneth and his wife Shannon of Summerville, SC, father-in-law, David J. Lynch SR and his wife Dot of Pompano Beach, FL, sister, Mary Zahn of Indian Harbour Beach, FL, brother-in-law, David James Lynch, JR and his wife Bonnie of Port St. Lucie, FL, grandchildren Aidan Zahn and Benjamin Zahn of Summerville, SC.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.

John Leo Clements, JR
Mr. John Leo Clements Jr., age 86, of South Meadow Dr., Hiawassee, passed away, Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home. Mr. Clements was born October 2, 1925 in Covena, GA to the late John L. and Callie Williamson Clements. He moved to this area in 1993 from Ormond Beach, FL. Mr. Clements was a family man, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was of the Presbyterian Faith.
Survivors include his wife Carol Clements of Hiawassee, children David and Jennifer Clements of Livermore, CA, Mark Clements of Belvedere, NJ, Ted and Karry Watson of Winter Garden, FL, sisters, Edna Bauldree and Betty Weathersby of Tallahassee, FL, Jean Welch of Ormond Beach, FL, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ the King Anglican Church in downtown Hiawassee with Rev. Don O’Malley officiating. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to Christ the King Church Memorial Fund.

JEFFERY THOMAS LOURIGAN

Mr. Jeffery Thomas Lourigan age 49 of Mineral Springs Rd. Blue Ridge formerly of Blairsville and also of Vancouver, WA, passed away on Tuesday May 23, 2006 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Lourigan was born on June 12, 1956 in West Palm Beach, FL, The son of Barbara LaCrosse Lourigan and the late Thomas Frederick Lourigan. He was a veteran of the US Navy. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Lourigan in 2000 and a brother, Michael Lourigan in 1999. Mr. Lourigan was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving Mr. Lourigan are his loving wife Deborah Lourigan of Vancouver, WA., one daughter and son-in-law, Korene and Mike Smith of Botell, WA., two sons, Brian and Kevin Lourigan of Vancouver, one brother and sister-in-law, Timothy and Mona Lourigan of Tucker, GA, one sister, Theresa Moulder of Madison, GA, four grandchildren, Torian, Tristen and Tyler Smith and Kyler Kingdon, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday May 30, 2006 at 11:00 am from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church with Father Richard Wise officiating. Interment will follow in St. Clare’s columbarium. In lieu of flowers if you wish, The family requests that memorials may be made to the St. Francis of Assisi church building fund in Mr. Lourigan’s memory.

Mr. Lloyd Kenneth McElroy age 62 of Smyrna Rd. Young Harris passed away on Saturday May 27, 2006 in the VA Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. McElroy was born on Aug. 16, 1943 in Cartersville, GA, The son of the late Felix McElroy and the late Esto Wilson McElroy. He was a lifelong resident of Union County and was a Drywall installer and finisher by trade. He was a veteran of the US Army of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW. Mr. McElroy was a member of the Shady Grove Methodist church.
Surviving Mr. McElroy are his loving wife of sixteen years, Ruth Anna Davis McElroy of Young Harris, one step daughter, Carol Hester of Blairsville, two step sons and daughters-in-law, Wesley and Mary Jane Hester of Blairsville, David and Tina Turner of Dandridge, TN., two brothers and one sister-in-law, Johnny and Sadie McElroy of Gainesville, GA, Frank McElroy of Jonesboro, GA, eleven step grandchildren, Lora, Tyler, Jamie and Wesley Hester, Skyler, Kayla, Lindsey and Austin Turner, David, Michael and Kaytlyn Simms, several nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends also survive.

MARION FRANCES BROWER
Mrs. Marion Frances Brower age 75 of Wesley Mtn. Drive Blairsville passed away on Saturday May 27, 2006 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Brower was born on Aug. 28, 1930 in Easton, PA, The daughter of the late Frank Woepple and the late Emily Wood Woepple. Mrs. Brower worked hard, being a single mother to provide a good life for her only daughter, Michelle. She was a loving mother, who loved her daughter and worried about her wellbeing, even until the very end. She was a special friend to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by two cousins, Evelyn Leibert and Carl Keenhold. Mrs. Brower attended All Saints Lutheran Church.
Surviving Mrs. Brower are one daughter, Michelle Brower of Blairsville, Cousins, Joan Sneed and family of FL, Raymond Wood of PA, Richard Klein of PA, Robert Klein of PA, Russell Noble of FL, Jim Noble of FL, Wilma Jamison of DE., Arthur Woepple of PA, Lois Fry of FL, Special friends, Marlene Butteri of Blairsville, Sandy Pazey of Suwannee, GA, Jan Unsell of Jensen Beach, FL, Connie Woodard of Blairsville, Pearlene Burnett of Blairsville, Ray Doucett of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday May 31, 2006 at 7:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dave Wesche officiating. Special music will be presented by Pearlene and Benny Burnett. Flowers are accepted or in lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Regency Hospice of Hiawassee in Mrs. Brower’s memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5-7pm.

ARVID L. UNRUH
Mr. Arvid Leslie Unruh age 66 of Stoney Brook Trail Hayesville, formerly of Brandon, FL. passed away on Saturday May 27, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Unruh was born on Nov. 3, 1939 in Durham, KS., the son of the late Wesley Unruh and the late Ellen Pankrez Unruh. Mr. Unruh was of the Mennonite Faith.
Surviving Mr. Unruh are his loving wife of thirty five years, Julianne Luke Unruh of Hayesville, one son, Dwight Unruh of Rockledge, FL, one daughter and son-in-law, Alicia and Ed Cannon of Alburn, WA., two brothers and sister-in-laws, Junior and Shirley Unruh of Hutchinson, KS., Ronald and Dora Unruh of Durham, KS., many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Friday June 2, 2006 at 10:00am from the Trinity Mennonite church with Pastor D. A. Raber officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Mark Unruh, Warren Unruh, David Enns, Rod Unruh, Dwight Unruh, Kristi DeVault, Brenda Enns and Debra Hiebert. Interment will follow in the Peace Valley cemetery .
