VIRGINIA REFNER
Mrs. Virginia Kathern Refner age 88, of Birdwalk Lane Blairsville, formerly of Adrian, MI. passed away on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Refner was born on Dec. 18, 1922 in Traverse City, MI., the daughter of the late Charles Seigel and the late Dovie Elliot Seigel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Refner in 1998 and a daughter Cynthia Reamsnyder in 2010. Mrs. Refner was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hayesville.
Surviving Mrs. Refner are one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Jean Refner of Adrian, MI., three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Todd Herrick of Bay Harbor, MI., Kathy and Ed Cole of Blairsville, Sandy and Scott Barta of Rossford, OH, one sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Bud Mumy of Amarillo, TX, thirteen grandchildren, twenty three great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday Sept. 26, 2011 at 11:00am from the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Tecumseh, MI. with Father Dan Wheeler officiating. The family will meet with friends at the church on Monday from 10-11am. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Mrs. Refner.

DERRICK LEE WHITTLE
Mr. Derrick Lee Whittle age 38 of V. Addington Rd. Blairsville passed away on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011 in the Erlanger Hospital following injuries received in an automobile accident while responding to an emergency call.Derrick was born on April 11, 1973 in Tallahassee, FL, the son of James Whittle and Sharon Norsworthy Whittle. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. At the time of his death he was employed as a Deputy with the Union County Sheriffs Department. He was a loving husband, father and son and was a friend to many. Derrick attended Harmony Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving Derrick are his loving wife, Karen Hinnenkamp Whittle of Blairsville, one son, Nicholas Whittle, one daughter, Leigha Whittle both of Blairsville, Parents, Jim and Sharon Whittle of Brasstown, NC, father-in-law, Jerry Hinnenkamp of Blairsville, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Suellen and Steve Morlock of Blairsville, brother-in-law, David Hinnenkamp of Blairsville, cousin, Toni and Jeff Tidwell of Montgomery, AL. a host of law enforcement family, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday September 21, 2011 at 11:00am from the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Stacy Dyer and Minister Terry Stuart officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Scott Harrison, Sheriff Scott Stephens, Scott Deyton, Dallas Batson, Tim Woods, Chad Deyton, Johnny McCoy, Mark Cecci, Josh Berry, Tyler Miller, Tracey James, Lamar Dyer, Charlie Ross, Tony Hodgkins, Michael Davis, Rick Landress, C.J. Worden, Travis Gibson. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Union County Sheriffs Department. Interment will follow in the Meadow View Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5-9pm. Dolores Floyt
Mrs. Dolores Juanita Floyt, age 89, of Wesley Mtn. DR, Blairsville, GA died, Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at Union County Nursing Home.
A memorial service will be held at Branan Lodge on October 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Inurnment will be in East Tawas, MI.
Dolores was born in Weatherford, TX, on January 29, 1922, the only child of Clarence and Attie Martin. Most of her life was spent in MI, but the school years were in TX, where she graduated from high school in San Antonio in 1938. She married Victor H. Floyt in Ortonville, MI on April 26, 1941, and was a homemaker all her life. A son, Roger James, was born on May 7, 1943, and a daughter, Linda Louise, was born on August 14, 1945. The Floyt family lived in Oscoda, MI for many years. The children graduated from high school there, and all the family were deeply involved in Hope Lutheran Church and in Explorer and Girl Scout programs sponsored by the church. The family moved to CA in 1978 after Victor’s retirement. Dolores moved to NC in 1993 after the deaths of Linda and Victor. Her son, Roger, died on March 23, 2007.
Surviving Mrs. Floyt are her daughter-in-law, Veatrice Floyt of Blairsville, GA, grandson, James and wife Vicki Floyt granddaughter, Kristen and husband Chet Falk, great-grandchildren, Megan Leigh Bauer, William James and Olivia James Floyt.
Memorials may be made to All Saints Lutheran Church, Blairsville, GA or to Branan Lodge.

BARBARA RUTH SAMPSON
Mrs. Barbara Ruth Sampson, age 91, of Nottely Shores, Blairsville, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Sampson was born on June 8, 1914, in Louisville, KY. The daughter of the late James Nicholson and the late Flora Maynard Nicholson, she was a lifelong resident of Union County. Barbara was an English teacher and had taught school in the Hiwassee Dam School system for over sixteen years, and also in the Union County and Fannin County school systems. Mrs. Sampson was a member of N. E. A., AARP, Georgia Poetry Society, American Poetry Society; she was Senior Poet Laureate 2004, the originator of the Mountain Maggie Doll and had published the Chap Book of Poetry. She was preceded in death by two brothers Frank and George Nicholson. Mrs. Sampson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blairsville.
Surviving Mrs. Sampson are two daughters and one son-in-law, Barbara and Wes Freeman. and Sylvia Haney of Stockbridge, GA; also family friend Rhonda Kirkland of Stockbridge; one sister Nelle Price of Blairsville; three grandchildren, Ashley Ruth Haney, Jarrod and Ryan Freeman; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 3, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. from the funeral home chapel with Greg Kirkland officiating. Special music will be presented by Ann Rose. Flowers are accepted or, in lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Union County Humane Society in Mrs. Sampson’s memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10-2:00 p.m. prior to the services.

BARBARA BRUCE FRIEDLY
Barbara Bruce Friedly of Blairsville, formerly of Charlottesville, VA, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2006, following a period of declining health. Mrs. Friedly was born on July 15, 1929, in Sparrows Point, Baltimore County, MD, to Upshur James Bruce and Nedra Bickers Bruce. She was married to Lionel Dale Friedly on Sept. 21, 1947, until his death on June 1, 1984. Mrs. Friedly was employed by the Baltimore County school system for twenty four years. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church throughout her life United Methodist Church in Afton, VA..
Mrs. Friedly is survived by a son, David and his wife Cayce of Blairsville, son Mark and his wife Anna and their children, Lauren and Mark Friedly of Baltimore; a sister-in-law, a brother-in-law, five nieces, one nephew, and many cousins in Virginia and Maryland. Mrs Friedly was preceded in death earlier this year by a grandson, James Alexander Friedly, son of Mark and Anna Friedly.
Following a graveside service, Mrs. Friedly was interred next to her husband, parents and grandparents in Riverview Cemetery in Charlottesville, VA. On Friday June 2, 2006 at 2:00pm.

WARD ALLEN BRYSON
Mr. Ward Allen Bryson age 65 of Blue Ridge Hwy Blairsville passed away on Tuesday May 30, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Bryson was born in Union County on July 11, 1940, The son of Geneva Shepherd Bryson and the late John Bryson. Before his retirement he was employed with Colwell Construction Company. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Bryson in 2003.He was a member of the Allegheny Masonic Lodge #114 of Blairsville. Mr. Bryson attended Bunker Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Bryson are his loving wife of forty eight years, Mary Allen Bryson of Blairsville, two daughters, Cindy Bryson of Blairsville, Janice Cobb of St. Augustine, FL, mother, Geneva Bryson of Blairsville, one brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Vallamae Bryson of Morganton, one sister, Carolyn Stephens of Young Harris, daughter-in-law, Greta Bryson of Blairsville, nieces, Denise Stephens and Stacy King, grandchildren, Heather Smith, Matthew Patterson, Steven Beaver, Amanda Griffin, Joshua, Kristen, Dustin and Justin Bryson and Brittney Cobb, great-grandchildren, Austin Smith, Jessie Cobb, Kaytlin Patterson and Kalob Tanner, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 1, 2006 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tommy Jones officiating. Special music will be presented by Larry and Agnus Helton. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Matthew Patterson, Kevin Smith, Steven Beaver, Sam Nichols, Arnold Patterson and Charles Cobb. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant Baptist church cemetery with the Allegheny Lodge #114 conducting Masonic Rites. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5-9pm.

Stephen Wright, M.D.
Dr Stephen Wright died peacefully Friday June 2, 2006, in the Union General Hospital in Blairsville after a long illness. A small service was held at St. Francis of Assisi Church Saturday, June 3, 2006 by Father Richard Wise and Rev. Kathleen McKevitt of Unity Church of the Mountains where Dr. Wright was a member.
Dr. Wright retired to this tranquil region from Atlanta after a fifty year rewarding career as Child Psychiatrist which covered 28 years in Miami, Vero Beach and Melbourne, FL. In Atlanta he worked in Alcohol & Drug Rehabilitation, plus a federal program as psychiatric diagnostician for residents of Georgia nursing homes. A true gentleman with a dry wit, Dr Wright is also remembered for inspiring people of all ages to feel good about themselves and to lead stable, productive lives.
The cancerous lower lobe of Dr. Wright’s right lung was removed over twenty years ago. This put an abrupt end to his smoking which had begun at age nine; however, not in time to prevent debilitating lung disease culminating in severe emphysema and oxygen support the past two years.
The family is eternally grateful for the loving care provided by Richard Moreland, M.D., Cheryl Anderson, M.D., their staffs and the personnel of Stonehenge and Brasstown Manor assisted living homes, Union County Nursing Home, Murphy Medical Center, Union General Hospital and Regency Hospice.
Dr. Wright was born in Tacoma, WA, Aug. 24, 1922, to Marion Cole Wright and Frederick Leroy Wright, M.D., a Veterans Administrations psychiatrist. He was the elder brother of Thomas Wright, M.D., Child Psychiatrist, and Mary Wright Shugart, both deceased.
Dr. Wright served the US Army 1943-44 as a Medical Technician, Private First Class; he served the USAF from 1951-53 as Captain and Chief of Service in the Department of Psychiatry at the Randolph AFB Station Hospital. He was honorably discharged from both branches.
Dr Wright fathered John Wright of OK; Stephen, Bradford and Mark Wright of FL; and Patricia Harrod of MN. There are 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces Stacey Shugart of SC, Nancy Wright of PA, and nephews Andrew and Frederick Wright of CA. His wife of 35 years, Constance, resides in Blairsville.
A Celebration of Life Service is being planned for mid-July, particulars to be announced. The family will also announce later their preference for memorial donations. Mountain View Funeral Home of Blairsville is in charge of arrangements.
Erin Kelly Fuller
Erin Kelly Fuller, 33, of Ellijay, GA was gently called home to our heavenly father on April 5, 2013. Erin was born October 3, 1979, in Daytona Beach, Florida to Terrie Leyden. She graduated from Mandarin High School in 1998. Erin relocated to Ellijay in 2006 to work along side her mother at the Corner Stone Café in downtown Ellijay. She shared great pride and love for growing the café into a local favorite for breakfast and lunch and lingering visits over coffee. With Erin's characteristic humor and playful attitude, she was dearly loved by all of her customers. As much as the café meant to Erin, her first love and allegiance was always to her daughter Sammie Jo and mother and family. All who knew and loved her are certain Erin will continue to keep a watchful heart from her place in heaven.
Erin is survived by her young and beautiful daughter Sammie Jo, her mother Terrie, her brother Shannon, and her grandmother Charlene Ivey all from Ellijay. Erin is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, niece, and nephews, as well as her dear friend and surrogate father figure Michael Shumer. Erin is predeceased by her grandpa Sammy Joe Ivey. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to an account established for Sammie Jo through the Erin Kelly Fuller donation account at Regions Bank, Ellijay, GA, or to Hospice Advantage or to your choice of charitable organization.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Hope Lutheran Church of Ellijay at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at the church for thirty minutes prior to the service.
