Louise Elliott Payne

Mrs. Louise Elliott Payne, age 67, of Nottely Dam Rd, Blairsville passed away suddenly along with her husband Charles Thursday, April 4, 2013 at her home. She was born February 26, 1946 to the late Major and Dora Shuler Grant. Louise loved gardening and canning. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She loved her dog Snuggles and her other animals. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Payne, a brother, Sylvan Grant, a sister, Donnie Anderson. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Survivors include son, Clifton Elliott of Andrews, NC, daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Tim Bohannon of Blairsville, GA, daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Joe Martin of Andrews, NC, son and daughter-in-law, Trenniss and Mary Elliott of Blairsville, GA, sisters, Ruby McClure of Blairsville, GA, Aussie and Vernon Jones of Blairsville, GA, Dorothy and Joe Vandiver of Young Harris, GA, brothers, Henry and Shirley Grant of Dallas, GA and David Grant of Murphy, NC, eight grandchildren, Jason Moore, Jeffrey Moore, Matthew Moore, Dustin Elliott, Heather Elliott, Colby Elliott, Cameron Elliott and Anthony Elliott.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday April 10, 2013 at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. R. L. Martin and Rev. Ray Potts officiating. Music will be by Amy and Michael Tatum and Darla Norton. Pallbearers will be Jason Moore, Jeffrey Moore, Matthew Moore, Dustin Elliott, Melvin Gibson and Jamie Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Colby and Cameron Elliott. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers make memorials to help defray expenses. Family will receive friends at the funeral Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m.

Lola Vivian Brock Jackson

Mrs. Lola Vivian Brock Jackson, age 81, of Crump Creek RD, Blairsville passed away Friday, April 5, 2013 at Union General Hospital following an extended illness. She was born February 11, 1932 in Floyd County, GA to the late John and Fannie Lou Hale Brock. She was a member of the Woodman of The World and the AARP. Mrs. Jackson was preceded in death by brothers, Elbert and Clinton Brock. She was a member of Mountain Grace Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Eugene Jackson of Blairsville, GA, son, Renae and Sandy Brock of Rome, GA, granddaughter, Tammy Lynn Gaines, great-grandson, Aidin McKenzie Gaines, step-grandchildren, Dean Clemmer, Jeanne Marie Mohler and Kim Mohler, step-great-grandchildren, Emma Mohler, Julia Mohler, Chase Mohler, Will and Tristan Mohler.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Denny Moss officiating. Music will be by the Denny Moss Family. Pallbearers will be Donald Kimsey, Herman Garrett, Paul Hane, Larry Bone, Loy Cook, Michael Jackson and Jerry Jackson. In lieu of flowers if you wish make memorials to Mountain Grace Baptist Church Building Fund. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m.

Jimmy Marion Reece

Jimmy Marion Reece, passed away at the age of 68, in Denton Texas on Thursday, April 4, 2013 in Denton. He was born October 15, 1944 in Blairsville Georgia to Paul Eugene Reece and Willa Bell Fritz Ensley Caylor. He served in the U.S. Air Force during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars and retired after nearly thirty years of service. Upon retirement from the Air Force, Jimmy dedicated another twenty years to his country, serving with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Jimmy Reece married the love of his life Jenny Westbrook on August 28, 1968 in Wilmington North Carolina.He is survived by wife, Jenny Reece of Denton; daughter Helen Marie Reece of West Virginia.; three sons, Jimmy Reece of West Virginia., Thomas Reece of Denton and James Reece of Austin; mother, Willa Bell Fritz Caylor of Blairsville Georgia; sister, Phyllis Stinson of Blairsville Georgia; brother Ronnie Reece of Georgia; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday, April 8, 2013 from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors with Rev. Ross Appleton officiating. Burial will be Saturday the thirteenth of April at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Blairsville Georgia.

THOMAS BIRD

Mr. Thomas Lee Bird, age 66, of Shore Acres, Blairsville passed away Friday, August 17, 2012 in Union General Hospital following a brief illness. TBIRD was born May 23, 1946 in Blue Island, IL, and moved to Blairsville 2 years ago from Atlanta. TBIRD was a Christian, as well as a U S Air Force Vietnam veteran. In addition, he was a beloved, retired teacher of the Dekalb School System. TBIRD will be missed for his professional advice giving and patriotism, and will best be remembered for his love of motorcycling, bowling, and all things action packed.

Survivors include his fiancée, Gayle Porster, of Atlanta, his mother, Dorothy McIntyre of Terre Haute, IN, and his children, Niki and Aaron Baker of Atlanta, Elizabeth and Andy McDonald of Cumming, GA, Thomas Bird and his fiancée, Corey Tost of Atlanta.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, August 26, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the McDonald Residence, 7665 Austin Harbor DR, Cumming, GA 30041. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donation be to your local D.A.V.

PATRICIA WATKINS

Patricia K. Watkins, age 79, of Roscommon, MI, passed away August 17, 2012 in Murphy, NC where she spent the last year of her life.

She was born in Grayling, MI on November 1, 1932 to the late John and Dorothy Mallinger. She graduated from Gerrish-Higgins High School in 1950 and then received her nursing degree in 1954 from Michigan State University. Later she became a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and worked for 20 years in the Roscommon and Houghton Lake Health Departments. She attended Resurrection Life Fellowship in Grayling, MI.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert Watkins, children, Libby and James Jenkins of Murphy, NC, Jill and Robert Blake of Loganville, GA, John and Barbara Watkins of Roscommon, MI and Jim and Kimberly Watkins of Mauldin, SC, sister, Sandra Helfrich of Waynesville, NC, eighteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Private memorial service for the family will be held at a later date.

DOCK ( D.B.) McGAHA

Mr. Dock (D. B.) Bailey McGaha age 83 0f Chicken Pit Rd. Young Harris, formerly of Marietta passed away on Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. McGaha was born on Aug. 11, 1929 in Young Harris, GA, the son of the late Dock McGaha Sr. and the late Nellie Woods McGaha. D.B. was a veteran of the US Navy of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired from the US Navy in 1968 with over twenty two years of service. He was a member of the Fleet Reserves. He loved his motor home, camping and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. D.B. was preceded in death by a son, Terry Lin McGaha in 2011. Mr. McGaha attended Many Forks Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. McGaha are his loving wife of fifty eight years, Nettie Gibson McGaha of Young Harris, two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Debbie McGaha of Acworth, Dexter and Susan McGaha of Acworth, one sister, Imogene Lewis of Cleveland, GA, two brothers, Claude McGaha of Atlanta, Hoyle McGaha of Michigan, brother-in-law, Clifford Gibson of Young Harris, seven grandchildren, Timmy II, Terrance, Tracy, Danielle and Taylor McGaha, Julie Waldroup, Dylan McGaha and Tiffany Pazol, one great-grandchild, Jake Waldroup, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday August 24, 2012 at 2:00pm from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Doyle Brown and Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating. Music will be by Cody Cantrell. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Timmy II, Terrance, Tracy and Danielle McGaha, Paul and Doug Gibson. Interment will follow in the Many Forks Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6-8pm.

MARI ANNA BLOOM

Mrs. Mari A. Bloom, age 72, of Blairsville, GA, formerly of Denver, Colorado and Washington, DC, passed away on Monday August 20, 012 after a courageous and lengthy battle with ovarian cancer.

Mari was born in Soux City, Iowa on September 12, 1940. Mari was retired from a successful career as a comptroller in several large companies in Denver and in Washington, DC.

Surviving Mrs. Bloom are her daughter, Janet Bloom, of Blairsville, GA; her mother, Mrs. LaNeel Pierce of Las Vegas, New Mexico, her grandchildren, Ava Nicole Gormley and Peirce Robert Gormley of Charlotte, North Carolina, and her brother, Michael Pierce and his wife Jackie of Ridgecrest, California.

Mari was pre-deceased by her husband and best friend for 48 years, Edward William Bloom of Blairsville; she was also pre-deceased by her brother, Leon Joseph Pierce, during the Vietnam War.

Mari is also survived by other relatives and friends, her PEO sisters, and her wonderful friends from the First Baptist Church. Also missing her love and kindness is her “best buddy”, her Maltese “Bo”.

Mari was an active member and Sunday School teacher at the First Baptist Church of Blairsville.

Services will be held on Saturday August 25, 2012 from the First Baptist Church Rock Chapel at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mari’s name may be made to: Shriners Children Hospital, c/o Appalachian Shrine Club, P.O. Box 2116, Blairsville, GA 30514 or First Baptist Church, PO Box 2058, Blairsville, GA 30514, Attn. Dr. Fred Lodge, Pastor.

IVA LOUISE HUCKS

Mrs.Iva Louise Hucks age 90 of Garrett Rd.Blairsville formerly of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on Monday June 5, 2006 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness.Mrs.Hucks was born on Nov. 9, 1915 in Mt.Dora, FL, The daughter of the late Albert Rumph and the late Susie Roberts Rumph.She was owner/operator of a grocery store for many years.She was a member of the Eastern Star and also of the Red Hat Bunch.She was preceded in death by two sons, Donald Hucks in 1996 and an infant son in 1938.Mrs.Hucks was a former member of the Northshore Christian Church of Jacksonville, FL, and was currently a member of Antioch Baptist church.

Surviving Mrs. Hucks are one daughter and son-in-law, Addie (Betty) and Arthur Gurr of Blairsville, four sons and daughters-in-law, Rev.Ronald and Marilyn Hucks of Jacksonville, FL, Albert and Elaine Hucks of Montpelier, VA, Johnny and Ginny Hucks of Middleburg, FL, Herbert and Vickie Hucks of Indianapolis, IN., daughter-in-law, Joy Hucks of Tulsa, OK., twenty grandchildren, thirty three great-grandchildren, twenty eight great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 7, 2006 at 2:00pm from the Antioch Baptist church with the Rev.George Cline and Rev.Ronald Hucks officiating.Special music will be presented by Patsy Davenport.The grandsons will serve as pallbearers.The body will lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 1-2pm.Interment will follow on Friday June 9, 2006 at 1:00pm from the Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville, FL.The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-9pm.
