MARY AUGUSTA GAZAWAY
Mrs. Mary Augusta Gazaway age 82 of Gazaway Rd. Blairsville passed away on Saturday June 10, 2006 in the Gold City Nursing Home in Dahlonega following an extended illness. Mrs. Gazaway was born on March 13, 1924 in Union County, The daughter of the late Marion Edward Self and the late Ollie L. Nix Self. She retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation after over thirty years of service. She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Gazaway in 2003 and a brother, Albert Self in 2006.Mrs.Gazaway was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving Mrs. Gazaway are one daughter and son-in-law, Glynda and Matthew Munro of Virginia Beach, VA, one sister and brother-in-law, Valene and Edward Dyer of Dallas, GA, three brothers and two sister-in-laws, Dean Self of Blairsville, Lawrence and Ethel Self of Columbia, SC., Glenn and Geneva Self of Gainesville, GA, four grandchildren, Leslie Jameson, Nicole Childress, Kevin and Jason Gazaway, three great grandchildren, Austin Jameson, Shelby and Childress, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 14, 2006 at 2:00pm from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating. Family members will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in the Choestoe Baptist Church cemetery.

ARTHUR LEE KELLER
US Army
Mr. Arthur Lee Keller age 73 of Ashley Circle Blairsville passed away on June 12, 2006 in the union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Keller was born on Sept. 1, 1932 in Bradenton, FL, The son of the late Arthur Keller and the late Elta Williams Keller. He attended school in Bradenton and graduated in 1950. He worked at a Belks Store after graduation. He was drafted in the US Army and spent two years in S. Carolina and Ft. Benning, GA. Mr. Keller was a purchase agent most of his life and performed that job for the Sarasota-Manatee Co. Airport for five years before becoming the manager of the Kiwanis owned Bradenton Trailer Park and Aud.& Hall. His Main love in his life is his family, his home, and football in that order. He loved to work in his yard and around his home and spent a lot of time camping and other outdoor activities. Like Bill Gaither Gospel music and watching TV. He has had the opportunity to live a short distance from his daughter and family and became "grandpa mom" for the grandchildren after school while mom worked. He enjoyed seeing them become adults. He loved the Georgia Mountains where he camped several summers until he moved here in 1991. He enjoyed several good years of doing what he wanted and when.
Surviving Mr. Keller are his loving wife of fifty years, Toni Keller of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and A. W. Pyles of Blairsville, two grandchildren, Melissa and Christopher Seider of Blairsville, one sister, Elaine Parker McBryar of Tampa, FL, nephews, Matthew Parker, Brian and Kristie Parker, lifelong friends, Stanley and Sally Kneeshaw of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.
No services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Gideon’s in Mr. Keller’s memory.

William F. & Judith A. Rogers
William F. Rogers (age 74) and Judith A. Rogers (age 73) loving couple, parents, grandparents and devoted Catholics passed away in an automobile accident on April 10, 2013.
The couple was born and married in Chicago, Illinois. Bill (Buck) was a Korean War veteran and worked for 30 years with AT&T while Judy raised the family and later went back to school and became a Registered Nurse. They were both active members of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Blairsville, GA, Bill with the Knights of Columbus and Judy with various church services.
Bill is survived by his brother Tom Rogers and sister Mary Lynn Cleveland while Judy is survived by her brother Dennis Lord. They are both survived by their children Michael (wife Kristin), David (wife Lori), John (wife Phyllis), Bill (wife Carrie) and Nancie Bragg (husband Ron). They are also survived by their 13 grandchildren Sara, Dan, Joe, Emma, Grant, Nick, Dawson, Jordan, Jessica, Megan, Kelli, Tyler and Ryan.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents William and Mary Rogers, sisters Judy and Ellen and brother James. Judith was preceded in death by her parents James and Ruth Lord. In lieu of flowers please send donations to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Blairsville, GA.
Memorial Mass will be held at 6:30 p.m. April 13, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Liem officiating.

Patrick “Pat” McHugh Ferguson
Mr. Patrick “Pat” McHugh Ferguson age 57 of Evening Shade Blairsville passed away on Saturday April 13, 2013 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Ferguson was born on May 11, 1955 in Oakland, CA, the son of Carol Anderson Ferguson and the late John Clark Ferguson. He was a veteran of the US Navy for six years. At the time of his death he was employed with Reynolds & Reynolds for over thirty years. Pat had been a Cub Scout Den Leader and a Scoutmaster of Troup 26 of Norcross, GA. He loved to sail and enjoyed building miniature model sail boats. He was a very loving husband, father and brother. He was preceded in death by his father, John Clark Ferguson, his grandparents, Bert and Esther Anderson and John J. and Helen C. Ferguson. “No matter how dull the situation, Pat could walk into the room and Brighten the whole day”. Pat was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Surviving Pat are his loving wife of twenty years, Madge Whitley Ferguson of Blairsville, mother, Carol Ferguson of Greenville, TX, one son, Maxfield A. Sussmann of Blairsville, three brothers, Brian Ferguson of Chicago, IL, Kevin Ferguson of Garland, TX, Daniel Ferguson of Greenville, TX, one sister, Katherine Ferguson of Greenville, TX, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held on Friday April 19, 2013 from the St. William’s Catholic Church in Greenville, TX. Memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus Greenville Counsel # 7438, PO Box 9198 Greenville, TX 75404 in memory of Mr. Ferguson.

Rickey J. Long
Mr. Rickey J. Long, age 48, native and lifelong resident of Union County, of Old Culberson RD, Murphy passed away, Monday, April 15, 2013 at Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home following an extended illness. He was born November 24, 1964 in Blairsville, GA. He was a loving father, son, brother and uncle and loved working on cars and working outdoors. Rickey was preceded in death by his father, J.C. Long, brothers, Trampus and Chuck Long. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his mother, Cordie Long of Suches, GA, children, Rickey Dillion Long of Suches, GA and Colton Long of Blairsville, GA, brother, Pete Long of Murphy, NC, sister Sidney Pickelsimer of Suches, GA, three nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Garth Cook officiating. Pallbearers will be Terry Pickelsimer, Lonnie Dockery, Rusty Bearbalt, Richard Pickelsimer, Chuck Pickelsimer and Anthony Garrett. Interment will follow in the Long Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Janice Kay Hurt Dugger
Janice Kay Hurt Dugger, age 68, of Porter Place, Blairsville passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013 at her home. She was born June 20, 1944 in Norfolk, VA to the late William Chappell Hurt, JR and the late Christina Keefer Hurt.
She moved from Norfolk while in elementary school and grew up in Fulton County, GA. Kay graduated UHC and transferred to UGA and received her Masters Degree in Education.
She always wanted to be a teacher and taught school in Fulton County from 1965-1996 and retired. Kay loved the Lord more each day. While she was teaching she would get up at 5:00 a.m. to have time of devotion with Jesus.
She and her husband, Jack were introduced in the early 1970’s by Jack’s brother, Dudley B. Dugger and his wife, Gloria whose twin girls, Le Ann and Lynn were in her class at Seaborn Lee Elementary in South Fulton County. They matched Kay and Jack up for life. Their first date was to an Atlanta Flames Hockey game in Atlanta. They married July 12, 1975 at Welcome All Baptist Church where Jack was a member. Jack is a retired Surveyor in Georgia. After retirement Kay and Jack decided to look for their retirement home in the North Georgia Mountains near Young Harris. Kay’s best College friend at YHC, Elsie Hunter, lived in Union County and that’s how they got here and they loved their life together here in the Ivy Log Community, where they had about 10 wonderful years in their new home.
Kay was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Ann Hurt Hammock. She is survived by her husband Jack, brothers Steven Hurt of Newnan, GA and William C. and his wife Alma Hurt, JR of Vero Beach, FL, nieces and nephews, Holly McCarren, Barry and Oma Croft, Mike Hurt, Mark Hurt and Debra Hurt, brother-in-law, Dick Hammock husband of Barbara Ann Hurt Hammock.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 19, 2013 at First United Methodist Church of Union County with Rev. Mike Cloyd and Rev. George Cline officiating. Kay will lie instate at the church from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. Music will be by Phyllis Baker, Billy Hendricks and Holly McCarren. Pallbearers will be Ray Sanford, Don Wyckoff, Joe Walker, Barry Croft, Jim Eddins and Myron Turner. Interment will follow on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in College Park, Georgia. In lieu of flowers make memorial donations to the Gideons International.

ROGER POWELL VEST
US Army Vietnam
Mr. Roger Powell Vest age 71 passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2012 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Vest was born on Nov. 21, 1940 in Jumping Branch, W.VA, the son of the late Oral Vest and the late Dexter Lowe Vest. Roger was a veteran of the US Army of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed hunting and traveling. He was a loving husband, father and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents and by two sisters, Elnora Conner and Sharon McFern. Mr. Vest was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mr. Vest are his loving wife of twenty two years, Jeanette Townsend Vest of Blairsville, two sons and one daughter-in-law, Scott and Timmi Vest and Matt Vest all of Tucson, AZ., step son, Tim and Wen Cable of Vancouver, Canada, step daughter, Jennifer and Tim Mulkey of Young Harris, five brothers and sisters-in-law, Clyde and Juanita Vest of Beckley, W. VA, Jack and Nancy vest of Beckley, W. VA, Richard and Alice Vest of Lenoir City, TN., Donald and Joann Vest of KY., Jerry and Ann Vest of Charleston, W. VA, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Aug. 29, 2012 at 2:00pm from the Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Vest officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Rogers’s nephews. Interment will follow in the Union Memory Gardens Cemetery with the North Georgia Honor Guard conducting military honors. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-9pm.

DAVID ALAN STURGESS

Mr. David Alan Sturgess age 71 of Willow Trail Norcross, GA. passed away on Monday August 27, 2012 in the Union General Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Sturgess was born on December 30, 1940 in Birmingham, MI., the son of the late Fred James George Sturgess and the late Evelyn Marie Blackketter Sturgess. He was a veteran of the US Navy. David was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Sturgess in 1985. Mr. Sturgess was of the Christian faith.
Surviving Mr. Sturgess are two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Lara Lynn Sturgess Jr. of Smyrna, GA, Daniel and Cory Lynn Sturgess of Smyrna, GA, two grandchildren, Emma Elizabeth Sturgess and Annabelle Grace Sturgess both of Smyrna, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Quality Care for Children or to Youth Villages or to the Winshape Foundation in memory of Mr. Sturgess.
