Hal Joseph Phillips
Mr. Hal Joseph Phillips, age 72, of Thomason RD, Young Harris, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Union General Hospital. Hal was born July 8, 1940 in Union County to the late Joseph and Bertha Henderson Phillips. He was a Simple Man with a Simple Plan and the love of Pat’s life. He hunted and fished from the time he was a small boy and would kill rabbits and squirrels with rocks. His mom would always cook anything he brought home. Hal was a friend to everyone he met. He laughed plenty and cried little. He loved his church and would always stand for what he believed. A true family man, who carried his son Mark many miles on his back, later passing on his love for the outdoors to his grandkids. Hal was a member of Gum Log Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Pat Phillips of the home, son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Tammy Phillips of Young Harris, brother, Troy Phillips of Blairsville, sister, Charlotte Murphy of Blairsville, grandsons, Michael and Matthew Phillips, lots of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Old Brasstown Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Cochran and Rev. Mark Wheeler officiating. Music will be by Amy Breedlove, Junior Phillips, Jack Cochran and Mark and Earl Wheeler. Pallbearers will be Matthew Phillips, Michael Phillips, David Lancaster, Jesse McGaha, Junior Phillips and Doug Breedlove. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Roberts, Ernie Gibson, Keith Barnard, Hubert Plott, Troy Phillips, L.D. Buchanan, Lonnie Marcus, Charles Rich, Roy Phillips and Ronald Phillips. Interment will follow in Old Brasstown Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. If you wish in lieu of flowers make memorial donations to help defray expenses.

James Mitchell Youngblood
Mr. James Mitchell Youngblood, age 52, of Buford Dr., Young Harris passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Union General Hospital following a brief illness. He was born September 7, 1960 in Hiawassee, GA. Mitchell was a loving father, grandfather and was always there for his family. He loved hunting, his dogs, music and NASCAR, and was a dedicated hard worker. Mitchell lived a simple life and was thankful for what he had. Mitchell was preceded in death by his father, James Youngblood. He was of the Christian Faith.
Survivors include his companion, Marcia Howard of Young Harris, mother, Ruby Youngblood of Young Harris, children, Matthew Youngblood of Dahlonega, Brittany Youngblood of Hiawassee and Cody Youngblood of Athens, sister, Cheryl and Brownie Brown of Young Harris, brothers, Mikey and Julia Youngblood of Young Harris and Mickey Youngblood of Young Harris, two grandchildren, Jaylin and Braylee Jones, many other family and friends also survive.
Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m., Friday, April 26, 2013 at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Jenkins officiating. Music will be by Tyler Moody. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 until 5:00 p.m.

Bobby Joe Queen
Mr. Bobby Joe Queen, age 73, of Jimmy Nicholson Rd., Blairsville passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013 in Union General Hospital. He was born in Union County to the late Tom B. and Nora E. Reece Queen. Bobby Joe retired from the U.S. Military as Sr. Chief Petty Officer after 32 years. He served in the Marine Corps and Coast Guard and had served in the Cuban Crisis, Vietnam and Germany. He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., Disabled Veterans and Amvets. Bobby Joe was one of those men we’d all be proud to be. He was a hardworking, kind-hearted Christian man who loved his garden, Ford trucks, America and family most of all. He is missed more than he could have ever imagined. Bobby Joe was preceded in death by a brother, Carl W. Queen and great-great grandchild, Cameron Mancini. He was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Carmela Queen of Blairsville, children, Elizabeth Queen of Acworth, GA, Carl and Janice Mancini of Watertown, CT and Michael and Anne Mancini of Norfolk, VA, brother Durwood and Katherine Queen of Acworth, GA, sister, Fran Kirkland of Blairsville, GA, grandchildren, Mi’Cael Guy, Isabella Queen, Melissa Torrance, Carl Mancini, Michael Mancini, Carla Denham, Phillip Mancini and Jamie Mancini, great grandchildren, Londyn Guy, Lawson Guy, Milo Torrance, Lily Torrance, Carly Mancini, Chrissie Mancini, Carlo Mancini, Donaven Mancini, Antonio Mancini, Adam Denham and Alexis Mancini.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Winfred Pitts and Rev. Bob Bone officiating. Music will be by Frances Miller. Pallbearers will be Mi’Cael Guy, Greg Queen, Troy Whitt, Ray Myers, Terry Queen and Joey Helton. Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Hutson, Brad Hutson, Andrew Queen, Rick Lance, Wayne Hedden, Tim Dyer, Doug Queen, Weldon Reece and David Haag. Interment will follow in Shady Grove United Methodist Cemetery with Military Honors by the North Georgia Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers if you wish make memorial donations to Shady Grove Cemetery Fund in Bobby Joe’s memory. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m.

Jane Elizabeth Mangel
Mrs. Jane Elizabeth Mangel, age86, of Stonehenge Assisted Living., Blairsville passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013 following an extended illness. She was born January, 16, 1927 in Detroit, MI to the late Vincent and Anna Jaworski Skorupski. Mrs. Mangel moved here 2 ˝ years ago from Michigan . She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and a hard worker all her life. She loved to travel. Mrs. Mangel was preceded in death by a son, Paul Mangel. She was a member of St. William Catholic Church in Murphy.
Survivors include three children and their spouses, son Mark and Lezley Mangel of Cass City, MI, daughter Mary and Tom Crandall of Marble, NC and daughter Carol Mangel Bennett and Mark Sapp of Apopka, FL; a sister, Charlotte Percha of Walled Lake, MI, five grandchildren, Andie Mangel, Amy Crandall, Kasee Mangel, Ben Crandall and Marcus Sapp; and a great grandchild, Bailey Cre Stewart.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will follow in Michigan.

JOHN ASH "JACK" GESCH
Mr. John Ashe “Jack” Gesch age 83 of Lake Vista Drive Blairsville passed away on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mr. Gesch was born on August 22, 1929 in Seymour, CT, the son of the late John Gesch and the late Mable Ash Gesch. He was a veteran of the US Air Force stationed in German during the Korean War. He retired as a policeman with the Lake Worth Police Department. Jack loved working with Youth Baseball and had umpired many games as well as coaching for many years. He also was a private pilot. He enjoyed the lake and his pontoon boat. Jack was a loving husband, father, brother grandfather and great grandfather. Jack was a member of Coosa United Methodist Church.
Surviving Mr. Gesch are his loving wife of sixty two years, June Williams Gesch of Blairsville, sons and daughters-in-law, John C. and LeeAnne Gesch of Lake Worth, FL, Richard W. and A. Hope Gesch of Hobe Sound, FL, one sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Henry Wasilek of Cheshire, CT., two sisters-in-law and husbands, Janice and Glen Boland and Wendy and Harvey Holden both of Blairsville, six grandchildren, Jenni, Scott, Juli, Crystal, Kimberly and Kristi, eight great grandchildren, Noah, Ashley, Lily Grace, Jakob, Weatherly, Hayden, Jax and Hudson, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday Sept. 13, 2012 at 1:00 pm from the Coosa United Methodist Church Chapel with the Rev. Harold Savage and Rev. Katie Strals officiating. Special music will be presented by Cynthia Lumme. The family will meet with friends on Thursday from 12-1:00pm in the church fellowship hall prior to the services. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to Coosa United Methodist Church for Feed the Children or to Shop with a Cop or to Coosa United Methodist Church General Fund in memory of Mr. Gesch. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with the North GA. Honor Guard conducting military honors.

S. Beaver
Mr. S. Beaver, age 68, of W. Hwy 64, Murphy passed away Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012 at his home following an extended illness. He was born in Morganton, GA son of the late Thomas and Ruth Cook Beaver. Mr. Beaver loved fishing, watching TV and loved races, and was a Jack of all trades. He was preceded in death by sisters, Ruth and Dorothy and a brother Robert. He was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Catherine Beaver of the home, son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Jessica Beaver of Kissimmee, FL, step- children, Shellene and husband Shannon Singleton of Murphy and Mark Elliott of Jefferson, GA, grandchildren, Jada Beaver, Kelsey Singleton and Preston Singleton.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers make memorial contributions to Good Shepherd Hospice.

JIM MOSLEY
Mr. James "Jim" Mosley, age 71 of Mill Hollow Lane, Murphy passed away at Murphy Medical Center September 8, 2012 following an extended illness. He was born January 22, 1941 in Lake Worth, FL to the late Elvin and Leana Near. He was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Mosley moved to this area 12 years ago from Lake Worth, FL. He was a master carpenter and loved building anything. He loved fishing and hunting, and was a loving and caring father and grandfather. Mr. Mosley was of the Baptist Faith.
Survivors include sons, John Mosley of Lake Worth, FL and Doug and Stephanie Mosley of Murphy, five grandchildren, Wayne, Taylor, Courtney, Colton and Gregory.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers make memorial contributions to an Orchid Society.

DONALD HORNER
US Army WWII
Mr. Donald Eugene Horner, age 88, of Fern Hollow Lane, Murphy passed away September 13, 2012 at his home following an extended illness. He was born August 15, 1924 in Muncie, IN to the late Charles Oliver Horner and Bertha Inez Straham Horner. Mr. Horner was a WWII US Army veteran and was a Medical Tech 5. He moved to this area in 1997 from St. Pete, FL. He loved his dogs, and was a very loving father, grandfather and was a friend to many. Mr. Horner was of the Methodist Faith. He was preceded in death by his son, James Horner and his wife Joan Elizabeth Parrish Horner in 2007.
Survivors include daughters, Helen Harris of Murphy, Judy and Gary Vitucci of St. Pete, FL, and Carol Faulkner of St. Pete, FL, three grandchildren Teresa Romanoff of St. Pete, FL, Brian Smith of St. Pete, FL and Shelly Smith of Indiana, five great grandchildren also survive.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers make memorial contributions to your local Humane Society or to Good Shepherd Hospice.
