David Kukula
Mr. David Kukula, age 57, of Blairsville and Englewood, FL passed away September 20, 2012 at Union General Hospital following a brief illness. He was born August 27, 1955 in Cleveland, OH. David was a Realtor. He loved Classic Cars, and was a real people person and was loved by all who knew him. David was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Kukula. He was of the Catholic Faith.
Survivors include his beloved companion Elaine Stanton, parents, John and Mary Jane Dille Kukula of Middleburg Hts., OH, brother, John Kukula of Westlake, OH, and niece, Jordan Kukula.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers you can make memorial contributions to the American Heart Association.

Elizabeth Mann Read
Mrs. Elizabeth Mann Read, age 87, Blairsville passed away September 17, 2012 following an extended illness. She was born November 29, 1924 in Greenville, MS to the late Nehama Reckless and Ella Mae Johnson Mann. She had lived in this area since 1998, and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Blairsville and their OASIS Club. Mrs. Read was also a volunteer with the Union General Hospital Auxiliary for over ten years. She was an avid Bridge enthusiast. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband Michael Harrison Read, granddaughter, Dana M. Dyer, brother, Robert L. Mann, sisters, Essie White, Ovella Hester and Opal Graves.
Survivors include children, Thomas and Susan Read of Fayetteville, GA, Ellen and Charles Kennedy of Blairsville, GA, brother, Donald and Sue Mann of Tyler, TX, sister, Juanita Holloway of Matthews, NC, grandchildren, Stephanie Leigh Kennedy, Michael Kennedy, Lisa Rivers, Joshua R. Kennedy, Mary Beth Read, Chris Read, three great-grandchildren, Logan C. Dyer, Michael Lane Kennedy and Addison Grace Kennedy.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Union County with Rev. Ben Lewis officiating. Music will be by Michael and Josh Kennedy and Keith DeFoor. In Lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made in her memory to the Union General Hospital Auxiliary. The family will receive friends at the First United Methodist Church of Blairsville from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the service.

LOIS Z. CASWELL
Mrs. Lois Z. Caswell age 76 of Rock Creek Circle Blue Ridge formerly of New Jersey passed away on Tuesday Nov. 4, 2008 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Caswell was born on May 18, 1932 in Jersey City, NJ, the daughter of the late John Zaun and the late Hazel Gilliland. Lois and her husband loved traveling to Maine. She loved children and loved animals. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Caswell in 2004.Mrs.Caswell was of the Presbyterian faith.
Surviving Mrs. Caswell are one sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Richard Ramsey of Port St. Lucie, FL, one niece, Shari and Jerry Kendall of Blue Ridge, nephews, David and Laura Boone of Lawrenceville, GA, Richard and Garnet Boone of N. Myrtle Beach, SC., Bruce and Trish Boone of Roswell, GA, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation in memory of Mrs. Caswell.

MARY RAINES
Mrs. Mary O. Raines, age 74, of BRR Lane, Young Harris passed away September 17, 2012 at Union General Hospital. She was born June 19, 1938 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Edward and Martha Maddox O’Brien. She had lived in this area for the past 32 years coming from Florida. Mary was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bobby Raines of the home, children, Cathy Stallings, Robert Raines, Paul Raines, and Joey Raines all of Florida and James Raines of Blairsville, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
No services are planned at this time.

HENRY WILLIAM BADACH
US Army Korean War
Mr. Henry William Badach age 79 of Hy-Top Rd. Young Harris passed away on Friday June 25, 2010 in the North East GA. Medical Center following an extended illness. Mr. Badach was born on Dec. 15, 1930 in Oil City, PA, the son of the late John Badach and the late Teofila Padkowka Badach. He was a veteran of the US Army of the Korean War. Henry was the son of Polish Immigrants who came through Elis Island. He was the youngest of nine children. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, The Polish National Alliance and The National Accountants Association. Henry was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He was preceded in death five brothers, Frank and Walter Stempin, John Badach Jr., Matthew and Chester Badach, two sisters, Annette Wnuk and Stella Wishnok. Mr. Badach was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Surviving Mr. Badach are his loving wife of fifty years, Virginia Adams Badach, one son and daughter-in-law, Gerard and Cindy Badach of Troy, NY, one daughter, Rebecca Badach of Athens, GA, one brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Sophia Badach of Oil City, PA, one grandson, Thomas Bode, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 30, 2010 at 11:00am from St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Richard Wise officiating. Special music will be presented by Ron Gaucher. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Debt Reduction Fund in memory of Mr. Badach. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6-8pm with a prayer service held at 7:00pm.

Wes Wells
US Army WWII
Mr. Wes Wells age 88 of Wesley Mtn. Drive Blairsville passed away on Thursday July 1, 2010 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Wes was born on Aug. 27, 1921 in Shelton, CT., the son of the late William Wells and the late Lottie Sanford Wells. He was a veteran of the US Army of WWII. He was owner operator of Wes Wells Builder for over forty years. Wes built and flew experimental airplanes up until he was 77 years old and rode a motorcycle until the age of 86.He was a Master Mason. Wes attended The First Baptist Church and also Antioch Baptist Church.
Surviving Mr. Wells are two sons and daughters-in-law, Howard and Jackie Wells of Blairsville, Donald and Deborah Wells of Las Vegas, NV., one brother, Franklin Wells of East Hampton, CT., one sister, Rose Clark of Franklin, ME., three grandchildren, David Wells, Michelle Apple and Toni Pruden, many other relatives and friends also survive.

Alexander Carl Mottola
US Army WWII
Mr. Alexander Carl Mottola age 88 of Suches, GA. passed away on July 1, 2010 at the North East Georgia Medical Center. He was born on August 2, 1922 in Frankfort, NY. He proudly served our country in WWII in the army. He received his BS degree at the University of Syracuse and his Masters degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of New Mexico. He was one of the few men selected to work on the Oppenheimer’s program in Los Alamos, New Mexico. His talents then took him to Livermore, CA. to work at Lawrence Radiation Laboratory as a Research Chemical Engineer regarding solar energy. He retired from Russell Research Lab in Athens, Georgia.
Surviving are his wife of sixty years, Mary L. Mottola and a daughter and son-in-law (who was more like a son), Lexi and Jim Adkins of Suches, Georgia.
He devoted his life to wife and daughter and felt education and establishing goals were the true key to success. We will miss you Dad, but know that we learned so much from you and we hold the same values you held so high.

Florence B. von Hof
Mrs. Florence Barber von Hof age 87 of Blairsville, GA. passed away on Thursday July 1, 2010 following a brief illness. Mrs. von Hof was born on November 26, 1922 in Annapolis, MD., Anna Rundal County, the daughter of the late Robert E. Barber and the late Sidney Fontaine Barber. Mrs. von Hof was the widow of the late W. C. "Bill" von Hof who died in June 1988.
Surviving is their son, Hunter William von Hof of Blairsville, daughter-in-law, Dawn Marie Pieret von Hof of Blairsville, granddaughter, Hannah Marie von Hof of Blairsville, sister, Mrs. Dorothy "Sissy" Hunicutt, brother-in-law, Warren Hunnicutt Jr. of Blairsville, nephews, Warren Hunnicutt IV of St. Petersburg, FL, Kyle Mills of St. Petersburg, FL, cousins and grand nieces of Florida and Maryland.
Mrs. von Hof attended the House of Prayer Church and was a member of Rob Morris #1 Chapter of the Eastern Star. She served with the Union General Hospital Auxiliary for seventeen years.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday July 7, 2010 at 1:00pm from the House of Prayer Church with the Rev. Jerry Helton officiating. Mrs. von Hof will lie in state at the church from 12-1pm.The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Hunter von Hof, Richie Carey, Travis Kelly, Joe Pieret Sr., .Serving as honorary pallbearers will be, Jim Collins, Gordon Hale and Joe Pieret Jr. Interment will follow in the Choestoe Community Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5-8pm.

JOYCE ANN FORD
Joyce’s light encouraged everyone. Her heart was special beyond belief. In time of need, Joyce always had words of encouragement. She was a friend and mother you could lean on. No one could ask for a better friend and mother. She was loyal, loving and always there when you needed her.
Joyce was a wonderful nurse loved by both her patients and their families for her cheerfulness, compassion and dedication.
She was a beautiful person with her positive attitude about life which was uplifting for everyone she met She would say, "Things could be worse."
She had an infectious laugh with fun filled humor. The joy she felt was contagious. She was good willed and has brought wonderful energy and life to so may human beings who were lucky enough to meet her. Her heart was filled with love for everyone she would come into contact with. She was a lover of nature and anything related to the American Indians. Joyce had an incredibly large circle of friends. She truly touched so many people’s lives and hearts. Joyce was a rare, pure loving beacon of light. She was an inspiration to everyone. We will miss her. She has a spirit that will take its place among the angels.
Joyce is survived by children James Ford of Wethersfield, Connecticut, Stephen Ford of Sarasota, Florida and Laura Milligan of Boynton Beach, Florida, brothers Alfred Jones of Las Vegas, Nevada, Clifford Jones of Greenwich, New York, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by brothers Charles and Harold Jones.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. from the Unity Church of the Mountains. Officiating were Rev. Gayle Graziano and Rev. Toni Richard. The body was cremated.
