Mr. Charles Fred Thomas age 62 of Leisure Time Rd. Blairsville passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2008 at his home. Mr. Thomas was born on July 21, 1946 in Fannin County, the son of William Thomas and the late Clarissa Tilson Thomas. Mr. Thomas had been employed in the timber business for the past several years. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jimmy, Troy and Roy Thomas. Mr. Thomas was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving Mr. Thomas are one son, Michael Thomas of Blairsville, one daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Eddie Thornton of Blairsville, one brother, Lonnie Thomas of Ellijay, our sisters, Mazie Dale of Ellijay, " Polly" Marlene Jones of Morganton, "Sue" Corine Douchitt of Dalton, "Judy"Diane Thomas of Morganton, four grandchildren, Courtney, Chantelle, A.J. and Brittany, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to help with funeral expenses in memory of Mr. Thomas.

MAEBELL SOUTHER
Mrs. Maebell Souther age 81 of King Cove Rd. Blairsville passed away on Monday October 20, 2008 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Souther was born on July 23, 1927 in Union County, the daughter of the late Luther Souther and the late Dora Cole Souther. She was a native and lifelong resident of Union County. She loved to cook and loved to listen to music. Maebell was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded by her husband, Ford King who passed away on Sept. 2008, three sisters, Deva Coker, Myrtle Hunter and Delphia Collins and by two brothers, Vaughn and Harford Souther. Mrs. Souther was a member of the Old Liberty Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Souther are three sons and one daughter-in-law, Charles King of Blairsville, Arlen and Barbara King of Blairsville, Lee King of Blairsville, one daughter, Mary Jo King of Marietta, two sisters, Ina Nix Clark of Reidsville, GA, Ella Dyer of Blairsville, eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday Oct. 22, 2008 from the Old Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Young officiating.

MINNIE RUTH PHILLIPS
Mrs. Minnie Ruth Gilbert Phillips age 86 of Smyrna Rd. Blairsville passed away on Monday Oct. 20, 2008 in the Chatuge Regional Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Phillips was born on April 23, 1922 in Murphy, NC, the daughter of the late Marion Gilbert and the late Ada Griggs Gilbert. She was a lifelong resident of Union County. Minnie was a loving mother and sister and will be missed by her family and all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Phillips in 1986.Mrs.Phillips was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Phillips are one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Bud Berrong of Hiawassee, one sister and brother-in-law, Hazel and Dexter Dockery of Blairsville, two brothers and one sister-in-law, Willard and Charlene Gilbert of Blairsville, Carl Gilbert of Blairsville, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday Oct. 23, 2008 at 2:00pm from the Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Gilbert and Rev. Dwayne Patterson officiating. She will lie in state at the church on Thursday from 1-2pm.Special music will be presented by L. D. and the Happy Pilgrams. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Eddie, Steve and Teddy Gilbert, Rex and Stanley Dockery and Patrick Garrett. Interment will follow in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6-9pm.

Gustav Coupanger, Jr.
Mr. Gustav Coupanger, Jr. age 78 of531 Orbit Dr. Blairsville passed away on Friday April 4, 2008 at his home following an extended illness. Mr. Coupanger was born on April 28, 1929 in Fort Lauderdale, Fl., the Son of the late Gustav Coupanger, Sr. and the late Nell Hudlow Coupanger. He Retired in 1994 from Broward General Medical Center with 30 years of service as a male attendant. He was a veteran of the US Army. Mr. Coupanger was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Fort Lauderdale, Fl. Surviving Mr. Coupanger are his loving wife 46 years, Sandra Coupanger of Blairsville, one son Edward and Tammy Coupanger of Pompano Beach, Fl. grandson Jerry Ayres. DELPHNA GIBSON
Mrs. Delphna Gibson age 83 of Ray Lewis Rd. Blairsville formerly of Lakeland, FL, passed away on Saturday April 5, 2008 in the Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Gibson was born on March 31, 1925 in Lawty, FL, the daughter of the late Carl L. Hilliard and the late Wealtha Byrd Hilliard. Delphna loved working in the yard and especially growing flowers. She enjoyed going to garage sales. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed by her family and all those who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Gibson in 1993 and by her first husband, Earl Starling in 1990, also a son, Jerry Wayne Starling in 2002 and by nine brothers and sisters. Mrs. Gibson was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Lakeland, FL.
Surviving Mrs. Gibson are one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and George Priebe of Blairsville, one son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Kathy Starling of Lakeland, FL, one sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Mark Mott of Cooksville, TN, eight grandchildren, Chris Priebe, Cindy James, Justin, Brittany and Brandon Starling, Regina Wiltse, Tina and Selina Starling, six great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 8, 2008 at 11:00am from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Luther Thomas officiating. Special music will be presented by Rev. Luther Thomas. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Justin Starling, Brad James, Chris Priebe, George Starling, Eric Wiltse and Butch Dockery. Interment will follow in the Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6-8pm.

Jennifer Ann Bailey
Jennifer Ann Bailey, born September 1, 1980 in Boyton Beach, Florida, passed away on April 6, 2008 from kidney disease at Emory University Hospital. Jennifer the daughter of Thomas And Nancy Bailey of Blairsville, Ga. Jenn, as she liked to be called loved life and lived it to her fullest in spite of her many medical difficulties. Jenn was a graduate of The University of Georgia in 2002 and a big Bulldog fan. Jenn was a liver Transplant recipient and a great advocate for organ donation. She worked for Senator Zell Miller in Atlanta, was a pharmaceutical rep. for Aventis and presently loved her job at the Mountain Education Center in Blairsville. She was member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church.
Survivors include her parents, brother Christopher Bailey of Blairsville, grandparents Dean and Carol Bailey of Lighthouse Point, Fl., uncle’s Kevin Bailey, Ron Traupane, Gary Traupane, Bill Shaw, and Glenn Thomas, aunt’s Sherry Thomas, Sandra Wold, Jean Roberts, Terry Householder, Mary Kay Shaw, San Traupane, Barbara Bailey, Linda Traupane and many cousins and friends.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 9 pm. with a wake service at 7:00 pm. Friday. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday April 12 at Noon at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Blue Ridge, Ga. with Father John Conway, Father Christopher Williamson, Father Randy Mattox and Father Richard Wise officiating. Special music by Ray and Kim Crock, Maria Rowse, Margaret Mary Briggs, Brittany Shepperd, Janice Ward and Susan Shaw. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Kevin Bailey, Gary Traupane, Quinn Bailey, Mark Roberts, Philip Thomas and Craig Traupane.

Callie Louise Corn
Callie Lou Corn, of Blairsville, Ga. passed away on April 10, 2008 in Union County Nursing Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Corn was born on January 28, 1914, in Union County, Ga. the daughter of the late Frank H. Spiva and the late Ada Gertrude Ledford. She was a loving wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Alexander Corn in 1981. Mrs. Corn was member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church in Blairsville Ga. Surviving Mrs. Corn are one daughter Ella Marie Roberson of Dalonega, Ga. and sister Jessie L. Erwin of Blairsville, Ga.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at 3:00pm from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jimmy Tanner officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Benny Erwin, Dale Hamby, Keith Ledford, Jimmy Alexander. Interment will follow in the Shady Grove Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Union County Nursing Home Activity Department. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon from1:00 to 3:00pm.

EVELYN BEAL
Mrs. Evelyn Faulkner Beal, age 86, passed away on September 20, 2012 at her home in Blairsville. She was actively involved with the Chamber of Commerce, a life Master Bridge player, a huge advocate for animal protection, an exceptional seamstress, an extraordinary cook and a warm, tender, loving LADY. She will be missed by all.
Mom, may your spirit float to the arms of God, may every star shine with your smile, we’ll hold you in our hearts and see you in a while.
She leaves behind a loving husband of 63 years, David W. Beal of Blairsville, 3 happily married children, David and Elizabeth Beal of Hiawassee, Linda and Charles Strickland of Stuart, FL and Lisa and Craig Robelen of Boca Raton, FL, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests a donation to your local humane society.

MARY YOUNG
Mrs. Mary Ann Young age 74 of Chestnut Oak Lane Blairsville passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 23, 2012 in the Union General Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Young was born on January 8, 1938 in Savannah, GA, the daughter of the late Elbert Terry Hash and the late Ella Louise Patrick Hash. Mary Ann loved to cook and to take care of people in need. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the best mother that God could have ever given to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin L. Young in 2004, a sister, Frances Hembrie in 2010 and a brother, Curtis Hash in 1999. Mrs. Young was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Young are two daughters and one son-in-law, Cherri and Abim (Adam) Young of Jonesboro, GA, Kim Young of Blairsville, two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Becky Young of Jackson, GA, Troy and Mandy Young of Forest Park, GA, one sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Stephen Gootee of Media, PA, one brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Mary Alice Hash of Buford, GA, eleven grandchildren, Spring, John, Amanda, Kali, Ryan, Laura, Colby, Preston, Jason, Curtis and Cory, ten great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends also survive.
A Celebration of Mary Ann’s life will be held on Monday Sept. 24, 2012 at 3:00pm from the Mountain View Chapel with the Rev. Leon McDonald officiating. Special music presented for the service will be Mary Ann’s favorite hymns. Flowers are accepted or in lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that donations may made to the American Diabetes Foundation in memory of Mrs. Young. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Monday from 2-3:00 pm prior to the services.
