Funeral services for Mary Kay Ackman, 43, Vinton, were Monday, July 28, 2003, at Overton-Van Steenhuyse Funeral Home, Vinton, with Pastor Ronald W. Waters officiating. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery, Vinton. Miss Ackman died Thursday, July 24, 2003, at her residence of cancer.
She is survived by two brothers, Skip Ackman and wife, Tammy, Clarksville, and Dan Ackman and wife, Barb, Buckingham; three sisters, Linda Nelson, Cedar Falls, Leah Gallagher and husband, Tom, La Porte City, and Karen Ackman and friend, Barry Holst, Vinton; nephews, David Murray and friend, Kristi, Jeremy Murray and friend, Alia, Robert Murray and friend, Julie, Paul Gallagher, Mitchell Ackman and Logan Holst; nieces, Nikki Gallagher and friend, Shawn, Carly Ackman, Katlyn Gallagher, Angie, Lizzie, Nick and Michael Howard and Dallas Nejedly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Bettie Wessel Ackman; her grandparents; and one nephew, Denis Gallagher.

Raymond E. Knapp
Funeral services for Raymond E. Knapp, 66, Marengo, were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, at First United Methodist Church, Marengo. He died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness.
The Rev. Joe Hohenshell officiated at the service.
Burial was in the Marengo Cemetery. Casket bearers were Mike Hanson, Dion Knapp, Steve Knapp, Tracy Gronewold, Steve Snyder and Louie Meketsy. Honorary casket bearers were his card-playing friends.

Ramond Earl Knapp was born Nov. 29, 1936, in Central City, the son of Louis Knapp Sr. and Rosey Schley Knapp. He graduated from Conroy High School in 1955 and began working at Amana Refrigeration. He worked as a mechanic there for 47 years, retiring in 2002.
He married Dana Ann Lippincott July 23, 1965, at Louisburg, Mo. They lived in South Amana and were the parents of five children. They later divorced.
He married Marian Klever Nov. 23, 1993, at Rock Island, Ill. The couple lived in Blairstown until her death in 2002.
He enjoyed stock car racing in Vinton, gambling, coin collecting and fishing. He was especially fond of his two cats and his fish. He was a 4-H member in his early years and was a Boy Scout leader in the 1970s in Williamsburg.
Knapp is survived by two sons, Dion, and wife Kathy, Wilton, and Steven, and companion Lisa Gooden, Belle Plaine; three daughters, Daun Knapp, and companion Mike Hanson, Wellman; Sheila Gronewald, and husband Tracy, South Amana, and Bonita Meketsy, and husband Louie, Marengo; his father, Louis Knapp Sr., Marengo; 15 grandchildren, Candice Snyder, Lisa Knapp, Ashley Baetsle, Shelley Knapp, Sherry Knapp, Samantha Knapp, Cody Knapp, Danny Gronewold, Allison Gronewold, Brittany Gronewold, James Gooden, David Bean, R.J. Gooden, Jakob Knapp and Abby Throelkeld; two great-grandchildren, Austin Knapp and Edward Snyder; one brother, Louis Knapp Jr., Marengo, and two sisters, Mary Becker and Betty Herman, both Marengo.
In addition to his wife Marian, he was preceded in death by his mother.
Richard Emanuel
NORWAYRichard "Dick" Emanuel, 76, Norway, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2003, at home from complications of lung cancer. Services were Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Norway, by the Rev. Paul Baldwin. Burial was at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Norway.
Dick Emanuel was born Dec. 20, 1926, in Iowa County to Henry and Veronica (Brecht) Emanuel. He attended Norway Schools. On August 12, 1947, Dick married Betty Starnes in Cedar Rapids.
A veteran of World War II, Dick was drafted into the Navy in 1945. He worked for Iowa Electric Light & Power Company in Cedar Rapids, where he retired after 36 years. He was a member of the Norway American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles of Cedar Rapids, Union 1U0E275, and for 25 years was president of the Iowa Valley Baseball League as well as business manager of the Norway Bandits baseball team.
His family includes Betty, his wife of 56 years, five daughters, Penny Rowland and Chris (Alan) Dusil, Norway; Annie (Jim) Volz, Amana; Linda Hollingsworth, Winter Park, FL; Bobbie (Harlan) VanVark, Pella; a sister, Erma Stallman, Fairfax; mother-in-law Velma Kacer, Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law Betty Emanuel, Fairfax; brother-in-law Duane (Neoma) Starnes, Cedar Rapids; 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his two sons Rick and Nick, his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
Dick enjoyed dancing, golf, baseball and spending time with his family.

Barbara Banes
A funeral Mass for Barbara Ann Behounek Banes, 61, Palo, was Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at St. Jude Catholic Church, by Rev. Steven O'Brien. Burial was in National Cemetery, Vining. Mrs. Banes died Oct. 2, 2003, at home following a courageous battle with cancer.
Barbara Ann Behounek Banes was born Dec. 11, 1941, at Chelsea, the daughter of Louis and Emma Kubik Behounek. She married Richard Banes on Nov. 14, 1959, in Chelsea. The Central States Group employed her as a purchasing agent for 21 years. She was an active member of St. Jude Catholic Church and TOPS.
She is survived by her husband, Richard, Palo; four sons, Thomas (Jane) and Randall (Kelly), all of Palo, Daniel (Terri), Marion, and Timothy (Karen), Hawaii; two daughters, Christine (Neil) Schulte, Walford, and Cynthia (Scott) Minehart, Marion; six brothers, John, Cedar Rapids, Francis and Michael, Chelsea, Bernard, Wisconsin, Damien, Colorado, and Anthony, Vinton; three sisters, Rita Sevcik, Toledo, Cathy Wilkinson, Belle Plaine, and Mary Willaby, Chelsea; 17 grandchildren, Adam, Ashley, Nicole, Trent and Sarah Schulte, Lewis, Kyle and Amanda Minehart, Lindsey, Molly, Chelsey, Hunter, Emilia and Brianna Banes, Danika Johnson, Lindsey Rehnstrom and Amber Eganhouse.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a niece, Charlotte Wilkinson.

Mary Eggert
Funeral services for Mary Eggert, 93, Greenwood Manor Care Center, Iowa City, and formerly of Blairstown, were Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at St. John's Catholic Church, Blairstown, with Rev. Paul Baldwin officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Blairstown.
Mary Thersa Eggert was born July 30, 1910, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Charles and Julia Warnez Baetsle. She was raised in the Brooklyn, Victor and Chelsea areas receiving her education at the Catholic school in Victor. On July 10, 1929, she married Joseph Edward Eggert and they lived for a time in the Chelsea, Brooklyn and Belle Plaine areas farming together. For 30 years they farmed on the outskirts of Blairstown before spending the last 27 years living in Blairstown. She was a housewife, devoted mother and worked side by side with Joe. He preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 1989, and she remained living in their home until moving recently to Greenwood Manor Care Center. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Blairstown. She will be remembered as a loving mother, great cook, avid crocheter and a friend to all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Charles (Joanne), Iowa City; one sister, Clara DeNeve, Van Horne; seven grandchildren, Sheryl (Randy) Rohrer, Tom Eggert, Gregg (Sheryl) Eggert, Cindy Pearson, Kevin Eggert, Joe (Chris) Eggert and Laurie (Keith) Hicks; 15 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Art, Julius, Henry, Joseph, Arnold and Charlie Baetsle; and one niece, Pat Flickinger.

KEYSTONERaymond P. Junge, 89, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 30, 2003 at the Keystone Care Center following an extended illness.
Funeral services were Friday, Oct. 3, 2003 at St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone with the Rev. Bruce Kaltwasser officiating. Interment was at the Keystone Cemetery. Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Keystone was in charge of services. A memorial fund has been established.
Raymond Junge was born Feb. 14, 1914 near Keystone to Peter and Alvena (Heitmann) Junge
On Aug. 13, 1932 he married Doris I. Phelps at Morrison, IL and she preceded him in death on Oct. 19, 1998.
A lifelong farmer, Raymond also drove a delivery truck for Feuerbach Oil Co. for several years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church; and a 40-year member of the Keystone Turners. Raymond served on the Keystone Telephone Board and on the Elberon Town Council.
He is survived by two daughters, Joan Seeck and husband John, and Darlys J. Rusk, Keystone; two sons, Raymond Junge and wife, Alice, Keystone, and Harold "Hap" Junge and wife, Ardie, Branson, MO; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mark Shaull
Funeral services for Mark L. Shaull, 43, Ladora, were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Smith Funeral Home, Victor. He died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003, at his home.

Mark Lynn Shaull was born Oct. 13, 1959, in Marengo, the son of Carol "Shorty" and Shirley (Tuttle) Shaull, Ladora. He was raised and educated in Ladora, and graduated from HLV High School in 1978.
Following his education, he worked for Victor Manufacturing and lived in Ladora. He attended Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids, to become a truck driver. He was employed by Ace Auto, Iowa City, for many years and continued to live in Ladora. He was recently employed by Nagel Feed, Malcom.
He enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and boating in his free time.
Shaull is survived by four sons, Jakob Knapp, Marengo; Joshua Shaull, Ottumwa; Michael Finch, Andrew, and Justice Elliott, Athens, Tenn.; his parents, Shorty and Shirley Shaull, Ladora; two brothers, Jody and Eric Shaull and their families, Ladora; one sister, Christie Truemper and her family, Solon, and his grandmother, Nadine Shaull, Ladora.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jeremiah; his grandparents, Howard and Francis Tuttle Sr. and Leland Shaull.
Dean W. Kinzenbaw Sr.
Funeral services for Dean W. Kinzenbaw Sr., 76, Marengo, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at first Presbyterian Church, Marengo. He died Monday morning, Feb. 9, 2004, at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo, following an extended illness.
The Rev. James Stewart will officiate at the service.
Burial will be in the Koszta Cemetery, rural Marengo, with military honors by Marengo American Legion Post 76. Casket bearers will be Brad Roberts, Brent Kinzenbaw, Justin Kinzenbaw, Neil Kinzenbaw, Darrin Kinzenbaw and Drew Kinzenbaw. Honorary casketbearers will be his granddaughters, Brenda McCaw, Candie Crawford, Mindy Kinzenbaw, Jenilee Pirkl, Danelle Kinzenbaw, Kailey Kaestner and Megan Kaestner.

Dean William Kinzenbaw was born March 10, 1927, in Marengo, the son of Charles C. and Nellie Woodrow Kinzenbaw. He attended Iowa County schools and graduated from Marengo High School in 1945, where he had been elected to the National Honor Society.
He married Atellia "Till" Solbrig Oct. 24, 1945, at First Presbyterian Church, Marengo. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a tech sergeant working at the Pentagon. He farmed in Marengo Township for many years and was also involved in the bulldozing business.
For the past three years he had made his home at Rose Haven Nursing Home, due to failing health.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Marengo. He was also a member of the Marengo American Legion Post 76 for over 50 years. He enjoyed fishing and welding and many outdoor activities. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Kinzenbaw is survived by his wife; five sons and their wives, Dean "Bill" Kinzenbaw Jr., Dale "Stumpy" and Char Kinzenbaw and Doug and Deanne Kinzenbaw, all Marengo; David Kinzenbaw, Phoenix, Ariz., and Doyle Kinzenbaw, Gravois Mills, Mo.; two daughters and their husbands, Faythe and Jim Roberts and Denise and William Kaestner, all Marengo; 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and his many friends, including the staff of Rose Haven and Amenity Hospice.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Denny, in 1970; one daughter-in-law, Nicolette, 2002; one brother, Charles L., and one sister, Charlotte, in infancy.
Lester "Les" Lattimer
Graveside inurnment services for Lester "Les" Lattimer, 77, Vinton, will be held at a later date at Bear Creek Cemetery, rural Vinton. Mr. Lattimer died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Virginia Gay Hospital, Vinton, from a sudden illness.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ruth, Vinton; the two children he and Ruth raised, Gary Kruse, Des Moines, and Vicky Kruse, Memphis, TN; two brothers-in-law, Melvin Franklin, Rockford, IL, and Dale (Pat) Franklin, Naples, FL; two sisters-in-law, Jean (Roy) Smalley, and Dorothy (Leo) Schoonover, both of Vinton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Edith Brown Lattimer.

Services were Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Norway by the Rev. Paul Baldwin. Burial was at St. Michael's Cemetery, Norway.
Joe Kahle was born Nov. 9, 1930, Watkins, to Herman R. and Eleanor Schulte Kahle. He married Carleen Jiras on Sept. 14, 1954.
He is survived by his children Terry, Atlanta, Georgia; Jan (Tim) Camp, Cedar Rapids; Connie (Denny) Benyshek, Fairfax; Nancy (Doug) Netolicky, Cedar Rapids; Dan (Shari), Norway; grandchildren Marcus and Jessica Kahle, AJ and Kahle Novak, Sarah Camp, Eric and Jared Benyshek, Wesley and Cora Kahle, and Anna Kahle. Also surviving are sisters Thelma Serbousek and Lee Monroe and brother Sylvester Kahle.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife Carleen, son Thomas, grandson Tyler, brother Francis Kahle and his parents.

Martha C. Vavroch
Funeral services for Martha C. Vavroch, 93, Belle Plaine, were Monday, March 29, 2004, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Belle Plaine, with Father Keith Birch and Deacon J.C. Otto officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine. Mrs. Vavroch died March 25, 2004, at Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab Center following an extended illness.
Pallbearers were Mark Dvorak, Brent Milling, Nathan Vavroch, Brian Weiler, Ryan Vavroch, Kevin Dvorak, Shawn Milling and Greg Weiler. Honorary pallbearers were Jon Rstom, Kevin Weiler, Jared Vavroch, Justin Vavroch, Leslie Bileth, Jason Dvorak, David Dvorak and Laura Lambrecht.
Music was provided by vocalist, Olivia Vavroch, and organist, Judy Parizek.

Martha C. Vavroch was born July 3, 1910, on the family farm six miles west of Victor, the daughter of Henry and Leonie VanDeVelde Wauters. She attended country schools through eighth grade in the Victor and Brooklyn areas. She married Milo E. Vavroch on April 6, 1937. She was a homemaker and they farmed all of their lives in the Chelsea, Keystone and Elberon area. He preceded her in death in January 1987. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Belle Plaine, Altar and Rosary Society, and community card club. She enjoyed being with her family, birthday celebrations, singing in the church choir, gardening and socializing.
She is survived by her five children, Janice (William) Dvorak of Elberon, Mary Lou (Butch) Milling of Atkins, David (Cindy) Vavroch of Burlington, Mike (Mary) Vavroch of Elberon, and Jean (Dick) Weiler of Clive; 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Meyer of Blairstown.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; 11 brothers and sisters, Jennie Facile, Gusta Darr, Raymond Wauters, Morris Wauters, Albert Wauters, Leonard Wauters, Alice Rychnovsky and Cyril Wauters; three children in childhood; and one great-grandson, Seth Dvorak.

Betty Gallo was born Sept. 22, 1925, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Aloysius and Irene (Morey) Greene. On Aug. 13, 1945, she married Philip Gallo in Cedar Rapids. Betty worked in sales at Armstrong's Department Store in Cedar Rapids for 19 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Atkins. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, crafts and reading.

Funeral services for Mildred Beatrice Stelcik, 96, of Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savannah, IL, and formerly of Belle Plaine, were Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Christ United Methodist Church, Belle Plaine, with the Rev. David Crow officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine. Mrs. Stelcik died May 29, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center in Clinton.

Mildred Beatrice Stelcik was born July 21, 1907, in Salt Creek Township in Tama County, the daughter of Bert and Ethel Peterson England. She married Charles W. Stelcik on Feb. 28, 1931, in Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death on Oct. 29, 1984. She was a telephone operator and secretary at the Belle Plaine Sale Barn. She moved to her present home in October 2000.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia (Wayne) Burmeister of Lanark, IL; and a daughter-in-law, Jo Anne Rogers of Belle Plaine; her good friend, Billie Tubaugh of Belle Plaine; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Calvin (Jack) Rogers; two brothers, DeWitt and Leonard England; one sister, Marie Eggers; and one great-grandchild, Angie Burmeister.

Darlys Marie Junge Rieck
Memorial services for Darlys Marie Junge Rieck, 66, of rural Eastman, WI, will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004, at the Mt. Sterling Lutheran Church, with Pastor Gary Wees officiating. Mrs. Rieck died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at the Sannes Skogdalen Nursing Home in Soldiers Grove, WI.
Darlys Marie Junge Rieck was born Sept. 15, 1937, at Keystone, the daughter of Clifford and Gertie Vogeler Junge. She married Roger Rieck in Keystone on June 15, 1956. They lived on a farm near Belle Plaine until 1977. During that time, she was employed at various buisnesses until her recent illness in 2003.
She is survived by her husband, Roger of Eastman, WI; a daughter and son-in-law, Angela Rieck-Hinz and John Hinz of Story City; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Barbara Rieck of Seneca, WI; two grandchildren, Keely Ayers and Kira Rieck; and one brother, Larry (Marilyn) Junge of Pharr, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Theodore Frederick
Services for Theodore P. "Jr." Frederick, 71, Luzerne, will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Luzerne, by the Rev. Michael Musick.
Burial will be at St. Paul's Cemetery, Luzerne. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, at Hrabak Funeral Home, Belle Plaine.
Mr. Frederick died Sunday, May 30, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a lingering illness.
Mary Gayle Formanek Janu
Graveside services for Mary Gayle Formanek Janu, 82, were Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004, at International Cemeteryin Luzerne with Deacon Joe Behounek of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Belle Plaine, officiating. Mrs. Janu died Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a brief illness.
Casket bearers were Charles Gordon, Dale Ulch, Mike Bordwell, Virgil Kozik, Vincent Barloon, Dan Behaunek and Rick Chilcote.
Mary Gayle Formanek Janu was born Nov. 20, 1921, in rural Belle Plaine, the daughter of Ed and Agnes Formanek. She graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1941. On April 15, 1944, she was united in marriage to Charles W. Janu at Marengo. They lived for many years in Irving. She became a resident of the Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab Center in October 4, 1995.
She is survived by a sister, Gladys Formanek, of Belle Plaine.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Charles on Sept. 22, 2000.
