CEDAR RAPIDS - Clifford D. Geiger, age 82, of Manor Care, formerly of 1225 42nd Street SE, died Friday, July 23, 2004 at Manor Care following a short illness.
Graveside services: 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at the Keystone Cemetery, Keystone, IA. There will be no public visitation. Phillips Funeral Home, Keystone is in charge of arrangements.
Clifford was born August 14, 1921 in Marion, IA to Chester and Zola Merle (Whitson) Geiger. He served his Country in the Navy, during World War II. On June 23, 1945 Clifford married Winifred Thiessen in Santa Barbara, CA. He was employed by Link-Belt FMC, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Mt. Herman Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite.
He is survived by one sister, Arlene Tellez of Thousand Oaks, CA. and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Clifford was preceded in death by his wife Winifred in 1986; four brothers, Oliver, Loraine, Howard Lee and Chester Jr. and two sisters, Merle Lucido and Mildred Stroud.
SHELLSBURG - Geneva Gayle Gillis, age 85, died Wednesday, April 30, 20203 at her residence following a brief illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, May 5, 2003 at Grace Trinity Church in Shellsburg with Rev. Glen High officiating. Interment will be held at Oakwood Cemeteryin Shellsburg. Geneva was born July 16, 1917 near Keystone, IA to David Fredrick and Lucy Ellen (Share) Fiene and graduated from the Keystone High School in 1936. On February 21, 1943 she married Ralph Howard Gillis at her parent’s home near Keystone. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1974.
She had been employed as a cook at the Vinton Lutheran Home for 8 years prior to her retirement. After her marriage, Shellsburg became her hometown where she was a member of Grace Trinity Church, the Birthday Club, the Thimble Club and the Leisure Club. She enjoyed life and loved to travel. Geneva was always willing to volunteer wherever she was needed.
She is survived by her children, Vern Gillis of Garland, TX, Dean Gillis of Cedar Rapids, and Gayle Reese and husband, Bill of Newhall; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and her sister, Jeanette Blazicek of Vinton.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Leonard Fiene.
NEWHALL - Fay O. Glime, age 91, died Sunday, February 22, 2004, at Rock Ridge Residential Care Center in Shellsburg following a short illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, February 26, 2004 at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton, with Rev. David Snyder officiating. Interment will be held at the Urbana Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
He is survived by one daughter, Patricia A. Sheldon and husband Richard of Lakeville, MN; three sons, Ronald Glime and wife Karrol of Johnson City, TN, J. Duane Glime and wife Kathy of Van Horne and Russell D. Glime and wife Barbara of Vinton; one daughter-in-law, Rosalie Glime of Van Horne; thirteen grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter and several cousins, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mildred; oldest son Robert W. Glime; two brothers, Samuel and Ray Glime, and his sister Alberta Glime.
Fay was born on January 13, 1913 on a farm near Urbana, the son of Wilfred and Alta (Rouse) Glime. On November 19, 1932, he married Mildred Scott in Freeport, IL. The couple farmed near Van Horne and Newhall. Fay remained on the farm until entering Rock Ridge Care Center a few weeks ago. He was a member and former Elder of Central Presbyterian Church in Newhall.

Newhall - Gilbert Frederich Gluesing, age 90, died Saturday, February 15, 2003 at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness.
He was born on December 27, 1912 in Newhall, the son of John N. and Hannah (Senne) Gluesing and graduated from Newhall High School. On March 14, 1934, Gilbert married Madeline Weichman at Concordia Lutheran Church in Newhall. A lifelong Newhall resident, Gilbert farmed and later operated Gluesing Plumbing and Heating. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall, and the fellowship club. An accomplished woodworker, Gilbert especially enjoyed making Dutch windmills in his shop.
He is survived by two daughters Shirley Meyer and husband Eldo of Garrison, JoAnn Phelps and husband Jack of Apache Junction, AZ; three grandsons, Daniel and Donald Phelps and Steve Meyer; one granddaughter, Connie Mortvedt; six great granddaughters; one great grandson and his brother Paul Gluesing of Keystone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Madeline in 1996, one son Ronald Gluesing and one sister Helen Schreckengast.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall with Rev. Steven Rempfer officiating. Interment will be at St. John Cemeteryin Newhall. Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Phillips Funeral Home in Vinton.

VAN HORNE - Paul William Herman Gluesing, age 89, died Thursday, November 18, 2004 at the Keystone Nursing Care Center in Keystone following an extended illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 A.M., Monday, November 22, 2004 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Van Horne with Rev. David Lindenberg officiating. Interment will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemeteryin Cedar Rapids. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Keystone from 4 to 7 P.M. on Sunday.
He was born July 25, 1915 on a farm near Newhall to John and Hannah (Senne) Gluesing. He attended St. John Lutheran School thru 8th grade and then graduated from Newhall Consolidated High School in1935. On May 10, 1940 he married Norma Voeltz at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Luzerne. She preceded him in death on July 14, 1991.
Paul owned and operated a portable hammer mill out of Newhall and sold Cargill Feeds for nine years. In 1946 he and his wife, Norma, bought a grocery store in Van Horne. They owned Gluesing By-Lo Grocery for 32 years and retired in 1978.
A member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Van Horne since 1946, Paul had served as Sunday School Superintendent, Elder, Treasurer, and Financial Secretary. He also served on the Board of Directors of Camp Io-Dis-E-Ca when the camp was established.
An active member of his community, he served as City Clerk from 1979 to 1988 and was active in the Van Horne Lions Club where he served as President, Secretary and Treasurer. In his leisure he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing his Keyboard at Nursing Homes, fishing, playing cards and riding his bicycle.
He is survived by his daughters, Karmen Kimm of Van Horne, Jackie Norris and husband, Alan of Cedar Rapids, and Paulette Brown and husband, Dennis of Vinton; eight grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in dearth by his brother, Gilbert Gluesing, his sister, Helen Schreckengast, and his son-in-law, Richard Kimm.

NEWHALL - Audrey G. Good, age 79, died Thursday, August 12, 2004 at the English Valley Care Center in North English, following an extended illness.

Audrey was born March 16, 1925 at Newhall to George and Ellen (Broendel) Paulsen and graduated from the Newhall High School in 1942. On March 5, 1946 she married John L. Good at St. John Lutheran Church in Newhall. He preceded her in death on September 13, 1999.
John and Audrey owned and operated Good’s Grocery in Newhall and Audrey later retired from Armstrong’s Dept. Store in Cedar Rapids. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and enjoyed membership in several community card clubs. In her leisure she enjoyed cross stitching and crocheting doilies. Audrey was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Her greatest joy came from her grand and great grandchildren.
She is survived by one son, James G. Good (Gail) of Dorchester, two daughters, Judy Upah (Lavern) of Elberon, and JoAnn Smith (Jim) of North English; nine grandchildren, Kimberly Weiland (Darrin), Wade Good (Tasha), Chrissy Good, Chad Upah (April), Heidi Pippert (Scott), Travis Upah (Kami Jo), Justin Smith (Amber), Jesse Smith and Jenna Smith; seven great grandchildren: Nicholas, Zachery, and Michael Boddicker, Payton Weiland, Makaela, and Zoey Upah, and Austin Pippert; her brother Delbert Paulsen (Liz) of Cedar Rapids; her sister-in-law, Lucille Good of Vinton, and her half-sister-in-law, Burnetta Irvine (William) of Waterloo.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
VINTON - Elizabeth Stephenson Guenther, age 95, died Friday evening, March 28, 2003 at the Vinton Lutheran Home following an extended illness.
She was born November 3, 1907 in Waverly, Iowa to Richard and Meta (Rathe) Stephenson and graduated from Waverly High School with the class of 1924. Following graduation, Elizabeth worked as a librarian at the Waverly Public Library.
On August 3, 1930, she married William H. Guenther at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Waverly. The couple moved to Vinton in the fall of 1943, where her husband was employed and later became a partner in the Cameron Clothing Company. William preceded her in death in 1971.
Elizabeth was an active member of the Vinton Presbyterian Church. Through the years, she had served as an elder and held many offices in the womens work including serving as the co-chair of the telephone prayer chain. She also enjoyed membership in the PWC, afternoon circle, the young at heart, and sang in church choirs for over fifty years. She was also active in her community, as a charter member of the Red Cross Volunteers and a charter member of the Vinton Womens Club where she served as the historian on the first board.
She is survived by two sons, William R. Guenther and wife Carol of The Villages, FL., George R. Guenther and wife Patricia of White Bear Lake MN.; six grandchildren, Doreen Avila of Chicago, IL, William B. and Geoffrey R. Guenther, both of Rochester, NY., David A. Guenther of White Bear Lake, MN., Kristi Johnson of St. Paul, MN., and Steven A. Guenther of Algonquin, IL.; seven great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; her nephew, Thomas E. Stephenson of Newton and her niece, Marion Stephenson Perry of Cortez, FL.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Rotsey and George Stephenson.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, April 3, 2003 at the Vinton Presbyterian Church with Rev. James Blair officiating. Interment will be held at Harlington Cemeteryin Waverly.

VINTON - Francesca “Kika” Guzman, age 64, died suddenly, Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at her residence.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, April 3, 2004 at First Christian Church in Vinton with Rev. David Gates officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemeteryin Vinton. Her family will receive visitors at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton from 4 to 7 P.M., on Friday. A memorial fund has been established.
“Kika” was born on January 22, 1940 in Fort Madison to Toribio and Pabla (Sanchez) Garcia. She was a member of the First Christian Church and she valued the time spent with her grandchildren, visiting with family and friends and reading her Bible.
She is survived by her daughter, Patty (Jim) Corcran; son, Donny Sutton; granddaughter, Michelle (Luke) Erickson; and grandson, Brandt Corcran, all of Vinton; grandson, Samuel Sutton of Canada; sisters, Amelia (Matthew) Estrada and Martha Wrage, all of Fort Madison; brother, John (Lupita) Garcia of Illinois; numerous nieces and nephews; and her dearest friends, Helen Corcran of Garrison, and Lydia Sorenson of Illinois.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, and two sisters.
VINTON - Natalie Terresa Grubb, age 98, died January 28, 2003 at her rural residence following an extended illness.
She was born June 20, 1904, the fifth of six daughters, to James W. and Annette Clemets Waldron at Westby, WI. Six months after her birth her family moved to Viroqua, WI where Mrs. Grubb graduated from high school. Following her graduation from Vernon County Teachers College in Viroqua, she taught school for one year and then attended Burnham School of Beauty in Chicago, IL.
On December 19, 1931, she and Arthur W. Grubb of Stanley, WI, were married at Harvard, IL. The couple made their home in Milwaukee prior to moving to Iowa in 1937.
Mrs. Grubb was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altar and Rosary Society, The Early Arts Club, and the Vinton Country Club.
She is survived by three nieces, Sharon Olson of Golden Hill, OR, Irene Sparhawk of Royal Oak, MI and Gail Showers of Edina, MN; and one nephew, Eugene Helgeson of Xenia, OH.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur, who died March 4, 1974; one infant son; five sisters; and one nephew.
The Mass Of The Resurrection will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vinton with Rev. Joseph McGuire as Celebrant. In honoring her wishes, the casket will remain closed at all times and her body will be cremated following the Funeral Mass. Private committal services will be held at Evergreen Cemeteryat a later date.
Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton from 3 to 6 P.M. on Friday where a Parish Scripture Service will be held at 5 P.M.

VAN HORNE - Hank “Huggy” Hanneman, age 51, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at University Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City after suffering a sudden illness at his rural residence.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 P.M. today at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Vinton. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Clarke E. He was born March 15, 1952 at Vinton to Robert and Nadine (Steward) Hanneman and attended Benton Community High School.
“Huggy” was a born farmer and also enjoyed racing Modified Cars at the Vinton Speed Way.
He is survived by his parents, Robert “Bob” and Nadine Hanneman of Vinton; his sister, Peggy Craig and husband, Ivan of Red Oak; his niece and nephews, Lea Craig of Red Oak, Gabriel Craig and wife, Rachel of Sedalia, MO, and Joshua Craig of Red Oak; his great nieces and nephew, Brenna and Mariah Craig of Red Oak, and Mathew Craig of Sedalia, MO; his aunt and uncle; several cousins; and his Doberman and special companion, “Chuck”.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ted Hanneman; his paternal grandparents, Harry and Helen Hanneman; and his maternal grandparents, Vernon Steward, and LaVon “Bonnie” and Frank Summy.

Ernie was born August 13, 1921 at Vinton to Myron and Lois (Donels) Hanover. He graduated from Vinton’s Lincoln High School in 1939 and attended college for one year.
Prior to his retirement, Ernie was the manager of Farmers Grain & Elevator in Vinton.
On October 17, 1964 he married Virginia Tiller at Las Cruces, NM.
He was a member of the Assembly Of God Church and in his leisure enjoyed woodworking and having coffee with his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia, a resident of the Vinton Lutheran home; two daughters, Nancy Campbell of Ames, and Mary Kramer of Vinton; two sons, Jeffrey Hanover of Cedar Rapids, and Randy Smith of Vinton; two step-daughters, Regina Wallace of Madrid, MO, and Jere Smith of St. Ansgar; six grandchildren, Gregory Campbell of Ellsworth, Bradley Hanover and Rachel Kramer, both of Vinton, Amy Hanover and Jessica Spargrove, both of Cedar Rapids, and Luke Wallace of Madrid, MO; five great grandchildren; and his brother, Kenneth Hanover of Mason City, IL.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Hanover; and his son, Charles Hanover.
VINTON - Virginia Delora Hanover, age 85, died Thursday, October 7, 2004 at Virginia Gay Hospital following an extended illness. She was born April 12, 1919 to Pressley A. "Pat" Tiller and Anna Ethel Bohannon in Dawson, NM. When she was six years old her mother died and her aunt, Nettie Birch, who had lost her own family to tuberculosis, raised Virginia and her two sisters.
In 1939 she married Winston Robert Smith and they lived in Las Cruces, NM, where Regina Marie and Jere Sue were born to them. Winston died in 1963 at the age of 45.
Virginia married Ernest Hanover a year later and moved to Iowa. She became the stepmother to Jeffrey Ernest, Nancy Ruth and Mary Kay. Ernest preceded her in death in 2003.
A devoted and loving Christian, wife and mother; Virginia was active in the Baptist Church and later joined the Assembly of God Church. She taught Sunday school, lead Bible studies for women, and served as Girl's Auxiliary Leader.
In addition to her children and stepchildren, six grandchildren, Greg Campbell, Brad Hanover, Amy Hanover, Rachel Kramer, Luke Wallace and Jessica Mortvedt, survive her. She also has an adopted son, Randy Smith and six great-grandchildren.

VINTON - Ina Mae Hanson went to be with her Lord on Thursday, November 04, 2004. She was born in Keystone, Iowa on October 28, 1921, the daughter of Louis P. Wiese and Hilda S. Feuerbach Wiese. Ina Mae graduated from Keystone High School 1939 and married Harley S. Hanson April 30, 1941 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. They farmed for 30 years south of Vinton and retired to Vinton in 1989.
Ina Mae is survived by son Robert J. Hanson and wife Beverly of Cedar Rapids and daughter Barbara J. Franks of Union City, California; sister Darlene Meyer of Keystone; grandchildren Becky Espey and Jim Hanson of Iowa City, Chris Hanson of Florida and Scott Franks and Jonathan Franks of Union City, CA; great-grandchildren Cory, Kyle, Hali, Evan and Danielle Hanson, Stacia Jacobs, Cameron Barrett, and Corrine Franks. Also extended grandchildren Mary Mease, Tom Krause, Randy Krause and Debbie Wood; many dear extended great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Ina Mae was a long-time employee of The Iowa Braille School. She was a member of Eden Aid, InterNos (Friends Among Friends), Virginia Gay Volunteer League and I.B. Club. She was a member of First Christian Church of Vinton and Christian Women’s Fellowship for 63 years.
Ina Mae was beloved by her children and grandchildren and respected and loved by many dear friends and neighbors. She was known for her kindness and compassion for others. She was also beloved for her peanut butter and sugar cookies, enjoyed by her family and their friends and co-workers. Ina Mae, although a sweet and caring person, had an insightful sense of humor, delighting everyone with her sharp wit. She will be sorely missed.
Ina Mae was preceded in death by husband Harley S. Hanson, parents Hilda and Louis P. Wiese, and two brothers, Keith and James Wiese.
Arrangements were made by Phillips Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday, November 5 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Phillips Funeral Home, Vinton. Services will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 6 at First Christian Church in Vinton, with lunch following in the Fellowship Hall. The casket will remain closed at all times.

URBANA - Oscar Hanson, Jr., age 70, died Sunday morning, January 12, 2003 at his residence following a sudden illness.
He was born July 11, 1932 at Palo to Oscar and Della (Myers) Hanson, Sr. and graduated from the Palo High School.
On November 14, 1954 he married Norma Rammelsberg at Vinton and she preceded him in death on September 26, 1972. He married JoAnn Kloubec on August 15, 1973 at Center Point, IA.
Oscar was employed as a Welder at Cedar Rapids Inc., formerly Iowa Mfg., in Cedar Rapids for forty years and retired in 1994. As a forty years member of the International Assoc. of Machinists & Aerospace Workers Union #831 he had served as Union President and Steward. He also was proud of the Labradors Retriever dogs he bred, raised and showed. Oscar enjoyed golfing at the Rolling Acres Golf Course in Center Point, and in his leisure he loved to fish, hunt, attend Nascar and Stock Car Races and was a avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn of Urbana; his children, Sally Bruce and husband, Steve of Rowley, Edward Hanson and wife, Rhonda of Center Point, and Twila Hanson of Cedar Rapids; and nine grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Richard Hanson on June 9, 1980.

VINTON - Mae Elizabeth Hanneman, age 96, died Thursday, October 7, 2004 at Virginia Gay Annex following an extended illness.

Mae was born October 18, 1907 near Keystone to John and Sophia (Pieper) Boisen and attended rural schools. On January 5, 1928 she married Raymond H. Hanneman at Huron, SD.
The couple farmed and raised their family in Benton County and loved attending community dances. A busy mother and farm wife, Mae was a member of the Farm Bureau Women and Eden Community Aid. Raymond preceded his wife in death in 1965. Thirty-five years ago, Mae left the farm and moved to Vinton. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Altar & Rosary Society of her Parish. A wonderful cook, she also enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting, and oil painting. Mae also enjoyed watching her grandchildren play basketball.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Regina and Waldo Rippel of Mt. Auburn; her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Ronald and Joanne Hanneman of Coralville, and Dr. Donald and Linda Hanneman of Janesville, WI; her daughter-in-law, Evelyn Hanneman of Vinton; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren; her sister, Shirley McCormick of Vinton; her brothers, Bernard Boisen of Vinton, and Edward Boisen and wife, Rosalyn Boisen of Wisconsin; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Boisen of LeSueur, MN; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
