He attended the University of Nebraska before he settled in Fremont, Iowa. He was employed by K-Mart in Ottumwa. Donald enjoyed music, sports and working on cars. Donald’s memory is honored by his parents Everett and Yvonne Baker of Fremont, a step daughter Peggy Sue Horner of Nebraska City, Nebraska, one sister Denisa O’Leary and her husband Mick of Fremont, 2 nieces; Jessica & Kassidy O’Leary, 2 nephews; Mickey & Aarron O’Leary of Fremont, and his paternal grandmother; Zeta Baker of Nebraska City, Nebraska. Homer Hynick was born in Eddyville, Iowa to Andy Hynick and Mary Gutch Hynick. He was united in marriage to Lillian Lappin on July 15, 1942 in Macon, Missouri. In his early years he farmed near Eddyville, and in 1951 he moved to a farm south of Fremont where he farmed for 38 years. Homer also worked in sales for Courtney Shepherd Implement for 17 years and for Roland Brothers, Wymore and Bean, and Albert Caves Garage as a mechanic. He is survived by his wife Lillian, three daughters; Nancy Stoos of Muscatine, Iowa, Barbara Krusemark of Ottumwa, Iowa, and Diana Bokhoven of New Sharon, Iowa, one son; Neil Hynick of Hatley, Wisconsin; 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 step great-grandchildren, and one half brother, Paul Hynick of Eddyville, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Willie, two sisters, Irene Antolik and Betty Baker, and one great-grandson, Joseph Butler. Mr. Hynick was raised and educated in Eddyville, Iowa. He attended the Wilson Country School and graduated from Eddyville. Homer's activites included racing go carts, participating in tractor pulls, playing pool, traveling, and being a "perfectionist". He also enjoyed driving through the countryside. He was a member of the Fremont United Methodist Church and was a past member of the Fremont Lions Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fremont United Methodist Church or Hospice of Mahaska County.

Helen was born February 23, 1923 in Callao, Missouri the daughter of Chauncey and Rose Wheeler Williams. She move to Cedar, Iowa at an early age and graduated from Fremont High School. She was united in marriage to Albert E. Caves in Kirksville, Missouri on October 17, 1941. He passed away November 18, 1988. Helen had lived in Eddyville, Cedar and Fremont and previously lived in Albuquerque,, New Mexico for 25 years where she worked as a secretary for the the Albuquerque Board of Education. Following her retirement she and her husband returned to Fremont. She was a member of the Fremont United Methodist Church, 60+Club, the ARTE Club, and a 50 year member of the Eastern Star. Helen's memory is honored by her brother Norman Williams of Davenport, Iowa, sisters; Dorothy Boland of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Charlotte Anthony of Santa Maria, California, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and daughter Linda. A memorial has been established in her name to the Fremont United Methodist Church.

William C. Schultz was born December 17, 1938 in Iowa City, Iowa to William Clifford and Dema Ilene Morrow Schultz. He was raised in the Fairfield, Iowa area. He attended meat cutting school in Ohio. He was employed at various jobs including Norris Construction Company in Ottumwa, Iowa and at Cathy's Tire Repair in Fairfield, Iowa. He is survived by two sons; Ronald and Donald Schultz, and two daughters Sandra Kay and Theresa all of Des Moines. Five brothers; Darrell Schultz and his wife Charlene of Chandler, Indiana, Wayne Carlson of Burlington, IA. Emer Carlson and his wife Barbara of Fairfield, IA., Don Carlson and his wife Teri of Tucson, Arizona, and Harold Carlson and his wife Renee of Boulder, Colorado, three sisters; Joann Hicks and her special friend Dusty Campbell of Fairfield, IA., Betty Holt and her husband Nick of Fairfield, IA., and Donna Pohren and her husband Jack of Lockridge, IA., two step-sisters; Sandra Stanley and her husband Jerald of Tunnersville, North Carolina, and Susan Caulder of High Point, North Carolina, and several nieces and nephews. Garnet Maxine Dinsmore was born February 19, 1909 in Fremont, Iowa to James William and Eva Cecil Phillipe Dinsmore. She was raised and educated in Fremont. She graduated from Fremont High School in 1926. She attended William Penn College and graduated in 1930 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and major in mathematics. She taught in Farson, South English, Blairstown, and Benton Community. Ms. Dinsmore retired from teaching in 1971. She served on the committee for the publication of Big Grove a History of Fremont and Cedar Township, Mahaska County, Iowa, which was dedicated to Ms. Dinsmore’s mother who was the oldest resident of Fremont and Cedar Township at that time. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Garnet enjoyed crocheting and gardening. Her memory is honored by her sister; Mabel Poffenberger of Altoona, Iowa, and two nieces Diana Poffenberger and Harriet Travis, both of Altoona, and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Memorials may be made to Dollars for Scholars.

Junior George Sea, age 89, of Hedrick, died Monday May 20th, 2002 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa. Junior has been cremated and the family has requested that there will be no services. A private interment will occur at a later date at the Mt. Zion Cemeterynear Martinsburg. Junior was born East of Martinsburg, Iowa on October 29th, 1912 the son of George and Ella Graham Sea. He was raised and educated in the Martinsburg area and Graduated from the Martinsburg High School in 1932. After graduating Junior attended Iowa State University for two years where he studied agriculture. After attending Iowa State, Junior returned to the family farm and spent the rest of his life farming east of Martinsburg. Junior also spent many years driving trucks for various people. Junior was united in marriage to Juanita McCartney in 1950 at the Sigourney United Methodist Church. He retired in 1977. Juniors memory is honored by his wife Juanita Sea of Martinsburg, a son Larry Stout and his wife Nancy of Cardington, OH, a daughter Martha Carter, seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Robert and Norman Sea, and a sister Janet Lee.

Louise Doak, age 95, of Hedrick died Friday, May 17th, 2002 at her home in Hedrick. She was born January 23, 1907 in Delhi, Iowa the daughter of Francis and Mary Prideg Gestel. She was raised and educated in the Hopkinton, Iowa area. She commuted three miles to the Hopkinton High School where she graduated in 1924. From 1924 to 1926 she attended the Lenox College and later the University of Iowa where she graduated with a major in mathematics in 1928. In the fall of 1928 she started teaching in Hedrick for four years and then was the principal in Webster, Iowa for three years. In 1934 she was united in marriage to Donald W. Doak at the United Methodist Church in Ottumwa, Iowa. At that time she was not allowed to teach because she was married, then W.W. II began and the Hedrick Community School invited her back to the position of Principal and math teacher. In 1963 she retired and has resided in Hedrick since that time. Her hobbies included being a housewife, gardening, and nurturing her family. She was a member of the Hedrick Martinsburg United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, the ODO Club, the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, and the Hedrick Legion Auxiliary, Louise’s memory is honored by her son; Dick Doak and his wife Carolyn of Franklin, TN., a daughter Mary and her husband Jim Spears of Hedrick, six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three sisters; Clara Gestel, Edith Heeren, and Margaret Gestel. Memorial may be made to the Methodist Church, Hedrick Library, or Dollars for Scholars.

Sue Cavin was born April 1st, 1942 in Fairfield, Iowa to Earnest W. and Mary Elizabeth Lyons Lathrop. She was raised and educated in the Fairfield area and attended Fairfield High School. She was united in marriage to Roger Cavin November 30th, 1962 at the Ollie Baptist Church in Ollie, Iowa. She was employed at Universal Producing Company in 1960. In 1966 she began working in Middle Amana where she was employed until 1979. In 1991 she began working for Wal Mart in Fairfield until 2001. She was also employed by the Ottumwa Courier. Sue graduated from Indian Hills Community College in 1994 with a degree in Horticulture. She loved gardening, reading, cross stitch, decorating cakes, raising her two grandchildren, and enjoyed her great-grandchildren. Sue is survived by her husband, Roger of Ollie, a daughter Shirley Conne of Iowa City, her mother Mary Lathrop of Fairfield, two brothers, Michael Lathrop of Wapello, Jack Lathrop of Fairfield, and a sister Karen Anderson of Mt. Pleasant. Two granddaughters, Shawna Reschly of Witchita, Kansas and Amanda Conne of Iowa City. Four greatgrandchildren, Tyler, Shannon, and Myles Taylor, and Ariel Strandberg. She was preceded in death by her father and a grandson Shannon Reschly. Memorial may be made in her name.

He was born May 30, 1913, in Highland Center, Iowa to Bill and Mayme Carpenter Hedlund. He was raised in the Highland Center/Hedrick area and attended the Mount Tabor Country School. After he completed the 8th grade he began helping his parents on their farm until 1941. He was united in marriage to Mildred Phillips February 10th, 1932 in Kirksville, Missouri. In 1941 they moved to their farm north of Hedrick and have lived there for 61 years. On the farm they raised Purebred Chester-White Breeding Hogs, cattle, and cash crops. Ross was a member of the Fremont Baptist Church. His hobbies included horses and pheasant hunting. His memory is honored by his wife Mildred of Hedrick, two sons Dale Hedlund and Danny Hedlund both of Hedrick, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Ross was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son David Lee Hedlund, three brothers; Harold, Carl, and Ray Hedlund, and two sisters Faye McDaniel and Irene Irwin. Eva was born January 17, 1910 in Fremont, IA to Francis Arthur and Lena Dinsmore Rhoads. She was raised in the Fremont area and attended country school near Fremont. Eva was united in marriage to Edwin B. Swanson April 9, 1936 in Ottumwa. She had lived in the Fremont, Farson, and Hedrick communities before moving to Ottumwa in 1985. She was a member of the Sew ‘n So Club in Fremont and the Cedar Creek Club in Farson. She is survived by her daughter Judy Ward and husband Don and her son Eugene Swanson and wife Judi all of Ottumwa; four grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a sister, Laura Roquet of Ottumwa, and a brother Ward Rhoads of Ottumwa. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ed on October 11th, 1984, four sisters, Hazel Aldridge, Lucille Davis, Florence McBeth, and Edna Rhoads, and three brothers, Floyd Rhoads, Raymond Rhoads, and Lowell Rhoads. May Cockefair 98, of Cedar died February 11, 2002, at the Georgian Park Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born October 6, 1903 in Eddyville to George Sherman and Rachel Maretta Myers Ward. She married Lacey Cockefair August 15, 1925 in Oskaloosa. She was raised and educated in the Cedar area and graduated from Cedar High School in 1922. She attended William Penn Teaching College and then taught at Mission Ridge Country School for two years and Kirkville School for one year. She was employed as an assistant postmaster in Cedar, worked in the lunchroom at the Cedar Consolidated School and helped as a bookkeeper for her husband's plumbing and heating business. She lived her entrie life in the Cedar community until moving to the care center in Oskaloosa. She was a member of the Cedar United Methodist Church and a member of the ARTE Club for 53 years. Surviving are her brother Ed Ward of Cedar, and a sister Minnie Latcham of Hedrick. She was preceded in death by her parnets; her husband; a stillborn son; two brothers Joe and Frank Ward and a sister Alice Goltry. Funeral services were held Thursday, February 14, 2002 in the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont with the Rev. Todd Holman of the Cedar United Methodist Church officiating. A memorial has been established to the Cedar United Methodist Church.

Marjorie June Cavin was born on June 19th, 1931 in Keokuk County, Iowa to Fred & Josie Garretson Glandon. She was raised and educated in the Hedrick, Iowa area. She was united in marriage to Roy Cavin on April 17, 1947 in Sigourney, Iowa, he passed away April 17, 2001. She lived in the Keokuk County area through 1984, at that time she moved to Oklahoma and then to Arkansas; the last 10 years she have lived in the Branson, Missouri area. Marjorie served as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the Ottumwa and Oskaloosa area for most of her working life. Her memory is honored by three sons; Ernest LeRoy Cavin of Branson, Missouri, Mark Cavin of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; and Fred Leon Cavin of Branson, Missouri; five daughters: Donna Wilson of Batavia, Iowa, Lucinda McBride of Reed Springs, Missouri, Sandra Burtlow of Quartzsite, Arizona, Eva Roberts of Sand Springs, Missouri and Karen Dudley of Ottumwa, Iowa, 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Margaret Ann Keever Shockley, age 56, of Hedrick died Wednesday January 9th at her home. She was born March 8th, 1945 in Henderson County, Illinois to Fred G. and Dorothy Furnald Keever. Rasied and educated in Gladstone, Illinois area, Margaret worked as a Certified Nurse's Aide in Great Bend, Kansas for many years before moving to Hedrick in 1996. She is survived by her daughter Gloria Sevier and husband Donald of Ottumwa, a granddaughter Adrianna Nicole Shockley, three brothers; Fred Keever, Jr. and Joseph Keever both of Hedrick and Mark Keever of San Francisco, California, and two sisters; Ellen Christofferson and husband Roy of Hedrick and Larena Garnjobst of Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Alvin Keever and a sister Rhonda Sutton.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Linda Mary Campbell. Helen Maxine Johnson Campbell was born on August 27th of 1921 east of Martinsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Adolph F. and Marie Rebecca Miller Johnson. She was raised in the Martinsburg and Farson areas and graduated from Farson High School in 1940. Helen was united in marriage to Donald W. Campbell on November 28th, 1942 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hedrick. Helen was a homemaker and had farmed with her husband in the Martinsburg area their whole life. She was a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was currently a member of the Union Chapel. Helen was also a member of the C.U.W.F., the Martinsburg Rural Neighborhood Club and was actively involved with bible study at the Farson Church. She enjoyed gardening and visiting neighbors and shut-ins. Keokuk County Hospice or the Union Chapel Church of which she was a member.

Alice M. Warren was born on October 13th, 1940 in Keokuk County, IA, the daughter of Ed and Hazel Campbell Warren. Her hobbies were sewing and needlepoint. She loved nature, plants, flowers and sharing her life with animals. Ms. Warren loved to travel and was a member of St. James Lutheran Church. She participated with a sewing project group and the Book Club, both at church. She moved to Kansas City in 1984 and worked for the federal government for 20 years.

Peder was born in Valley City, ND the son of Peter G. and Inger Pederson Davidson. He was confirmed in the Methodist Church in Valley City and received his education at the State Teachers College in Valley City. He also attended God's Bible Institute in Cincinnati, OH. Peder had worked as a mechanic in his father's Blacksmith Shop and had also worked at the Helborn Nursery in Valley City. He spent 30 years as a missionary in the "Hills of Kentucky." Poor health caused him to move to Fremont, IA to be with his sister and her husband, Mildred and LeRoy McCurdy. In 1985, he moved to Fairhaven West in Pella and in 1994, became a resident at Pleasant Park Estates in Oskaloosa. Memorials may be made to the Missions Fund of the donor's church of choice.

Lillie is survived by two sons; James D. and wife Sandra Halliburton of Cedar Rapids and William M. Halliburton of Corydon, a daughter, Phyllis Anderson of Corydon, three sisters; Pearl Paxton, Bonnie Scott, and Bessie Pierce of Grand Island, NE, five brothers; Francis Canfield of MN, Arthur Canfield of TX, George Canfield of OH, and Arlis and Eldon Canfield of Grand Island, NE, 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on January 5th, 1972, a brother Palmer Canfield, a sister Mary Carstens, and two grandchildren; Billy and Kay Anderson. Lillie Louella Canfield Halliburton was born on August 24, 1918 in Erickson, NE to Palmer and Mabel Ainsworth Canfield. She was raised and educated in Erickson and moved to Ottumwa at the age of 17. She married Cecil R. Halliburton on October 24, 1936 at the First Christian Church of Ottumwa. She and her husband farmed in the Fremont area for 30 years and she was also employed at the Contintental Overall Factory in Oskaloosa for 15 years, retiring in 1973. She moved to Oskaloosa shortly after her husband's death. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary. Lillie was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. in her name.

He is survived by his wife Evelyn of Martinsburg, his son Russell and his wife Bonnie of Lincoln, Nebraska, his daughter Miriam Norris and her husband Jim of Woodbury, Minnesota, four grandchildren Ryan and his wife Misty Quick of Norfolk, Virginia, Nicole Quick of Woodbury, Minnesota, Kathleen Quick of Fairbanks, Alaska, Shana Norris of Woodbury, Minnesota, a sister Holly Kiser and her husband Bob of Sioux City, Iowa and twenty one nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, Glenn, Merle, Doyle, Dale,Archie, Irvin, and Robert Quick and two sisters Dorothy Quick and Marie Barber. William Arthur Quick was born November 15, 1925 east of Martinsburg to Jesse James and Effie Earle Davis Quick. He lived in the Hedrick Martinsburg area all his life. He graduated from Hedrick High School in 1943. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Barcus July 27, 1947 in Ottumwa at the United Methodist parsonage. Bill was a TV serviceman for many years before owning and operating Martinsburg Lumber and Appliance with his wife from 1972 to 1990. After retirement he was employed by Lab Corp in Des Moines as a courier from 1991 to 2001. He served on the Martinsburg School Board and City Council. His hobby was rebuilding cars. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Keokuk County or the American Cancer Society.
