VENICE CAMPBELL SANDQUIST
Memorial services for Venice Campbell Sandquist of Boulder, CO were held Thursday, July 8, 2004 at the Atlantic, IA Cemetery. Roland Funeral Service of Atlantic was in charge of arrangements.
Venice Campbell Sandquist was born June 21, 1921 in Villisca, IA to Thomas Kay and Myrtle Estelle Wheeler, and died Friday, July 2, 2004.
She graduated from Villisca High School and later married Howard Campbell in 1939. They moved to Atlantic, IA where they raised three daughters, Holly, Colene and Rita. Howard Campbell died in 1967. She later married Ray Collen and then Dean Sandquist.
Venice worked for many years as a bookkeeper in both Atlantic and in Denver, Colorado. She was known for her great smile and sense of humor, which remained until the end of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four siblings; three husbands, Howard Campbell, Ray Collen and Dean Sandquist; and two daughters, Holly Kelly and Rita Campbell.
Survivors include her daughter, Colene Van Winkle of Boulder, CO, a sister, Vona Fryrear of Arizona, five grandchildren, Brett Hanke, Gina Kelly, Johnna Harvel, Molly and Judd Priebe, and five great grandchildren, Josh, Jason and Jeremy Harvel and Sasha and Austin Dowd.

IDA CHARLOTTE PENNINGTON
Funeral services for Ida Charlotte Pennington, formerly of Red Oak, IA, were held Monday, June 28, 2004 at the Pickering Christian Church in Pickering, MO with the Rev. James Larson officiating. Burial was in the Orrsburg Cemetery. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in Red Oak was in charge of arrangements.
Ida Charlotte Pennington, the daughter of William F. and Delka (McClelland) Shelton, was born on August 4, 1912 at LaVeta, CO, and died Thursday, June 24, 2004 at the Stanton Care Center in Stanton, IA.
Charlotte was raised by her grandparents, Elton J. and Charlotte McClelland along with Aunt Dutch in the Burlington Junction area. She graduated from High School at Graham, MO. She was united in marriage to Ora William Pennington on May 10, 1931 in St. Joseph, MO. They farmed in the Pickering, MO area for many years. They moved to Omaha, NE after retiring from farming and went to work for Byron Reed Real Estate Company. Charlotte and Ora moved to Red Oak in l989. Charlotte became a resident of Stanton Care Center in July of 2000. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and painting.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ora on September 28, 1996, a son, Bill, a daughter, Charlotte Ann Reents, a grandson, Ben Pennington and a great-granddaughter, Marissa Wells, 2 brothers, a sister, 2 half brothers and a half sister.
Charlotte is survived by two daughters: Shirley Reynolds and husband Gene of Stanton, IA and Edna Bates of Ogallala, NE, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ramona Pennington of Pickering, MO; 6 grandsons, 8 granddaughters, 31 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren, a step-brother, Howard Winslow, and 3 step-sisters, Mary Ellen White, Margaritte White and Eva Powers, other relatives and a host of friends.

DONALD P. FISHER
Graveside services for Donald P. Fisher were held Friday, July 2, 2004 at Olivewood Memorial Park in Riverside, IA. Emmerson-Bartlett Memorial Chapel in Bedlands was in charge of arrangements.
Donald P. Fisher was born in Villisca, IA, February 24, 1927, the son of Lucille and Paul Fisher, and died Sunday, June 27, 2004.
Upon graduation from Villisca High School in 1945, he was immediately drafted into military service. Having fulfilled his Army obligations, Don enrolled at the University of Omaha, where he played football and basketball. He married Donna Jean Brown.
Don enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in the early 1950's and was accepted into pilot training. His first assignment was flying a B-26 bomber in the Korean War. In 1968, Major Fisher was reassigned to serve in the Vietnam War, flying an F-101 fighter. Upon completion of this service in 1969, he was assigned to Norton AFB in San Bernadino, CA, piloting the C-141 Star Lifter.
Major Fisher retired from active duty in 1975 and subsequently earned a Master's degree in education from Pepperdine University. He continued to fly as a commercial pilot for a local Riverside company.
He is survived by his daughters, Janis and Cara, a son, Joel Fisher, and grandchildren, Daniel, Sarah, Rachel and Hannah.
ARTHUR HAROLD GAY
Funeral services for Arthur Harold Gay of Villisca, IA were held Friday, June 25, 2004 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery. Wolfe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Arthur Harold Gay was born July 1, 1910 in Carbon, IA, the son of Albert William and Flora (Misner) Gay, and died Monday, June 21, 2004 at his home in Villisca.
Art started farming at the age of 16. He married Hazel Dalgetty in 1931. To this union were born two children, Verlea and Donald. Art worked during the summer in Minnesota working on a farm that had six sections of land and also 50 head of Belgian horses and during the winter he returned to Carbon to work as a top hand at the John Ruth Coal Mine near Carbon.
He later married Catheryne Greenfield on March 14, 1942 in Maryville, MO. To this union were born three children: Clayton, Ruth and Ronald.
After his marriage to Catheryne he farmed for Charlie Fryer south of Villisca. Then they moved to Stanton, IA where he worked for the Connie Ossian dairy, and later for the railroad. Art purchased a farm southwest of Villisca in 1946 and he lived there until Catheryne's death in 1964.
Art moved to College Springs in January 1965, along with Ruth and Ronald. Art worked as a public relations counselor for the Mental Health Institute in Clarinda and he retired in 1972 after working there for over 17 years. After retiring, Art delivered the Omaha World Herald until he was 86. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working with horses.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Catheryne, sisters: Maxine, Arbell and Charlotte, one brother, Russell, two grandsons, John Carpenter and Curt Gay, and a great-granddaughter Kaitlyn Gay.
Art is survived by a special friend Iris Delaney of Villisca; his children: Verlea Sands of Creston, IA; Donald Gay and wife Carolyn of Gilroy, CA; Clayton Gay and wife Margaret of Villisca; Ruth Gay of Villisca; and Ron Gay and wife Cindy of Villisca; 20 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and two great-granddaughters, plus many other relatives and friends. A memorial is being established.
CONNIE KAY REAVIS
Graveside memorial services for Connie Kay Reavis of Albuquerque, NM were held Saturday, June 12, 2004 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah, IA, with Larry Johnson officiating.
Connie Kay Reavis was born December 9, 1937 at Hamburg, IA, the only child of Edward T. and Lura Marie (Richey) Reavis, and died June 3, 2004 at the Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital in Albuquerque.
Connie grew up in the rural Villisca, IA area, where she graduated from Villisca High School in 1955. She then attended the Junior College in Clarinda before transferring to Rosewell, NM where she received her degree in elementary education, and Bachelor's Degree from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM. Connie began her teaching career in Rosewell, NM. She then taught school on the Indian Reservations in Holbrook, AZ. She then moved to Albuquerque in 1973 where she went to work for GE and Honeywell until her retirement.
Connie was a very talented lady. She played several musical instruments including the guitar, mandolin, and the banjo. She designed and made southwestern jewelry of turquoise and silver which she enjoyed selling throughout the United States for several years. Connie was known to entertain many friends at various parties as "Bumpy the Bag Lady." Connie was an active member of the Emanuel Metropolitan Community Church in Albuquerque. She contributed to many organizations, including her church, the food bank and the Humane Society. Connie was great fun and had a delicious sense of humor. In later years, she became interested in collecting kitchen antiques from the 1930's and 40's.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her cousins, Ruth Benjamin, Morrie Reavis, Val Black, Bob Ginger and Sharon Trummer, all of Shenandoah, IA; A.J. Peterson, Claire Crill and Sam Richey, all of Corning, IA; Nick Reavis of Atlantic, IA; and Karen Wagner of Kansas City; as well as three close friends, Teresa Gnekow, Anne Doering and her "antique-hunting buddy" Larry Johnson of Carbon, IA.
The family requested that memorials be given in Connie's name in lieu of flowers.
GARY TIEMANN
Graveside services for Gary Tiemann of Clarinda, IA, formerly of Villisca, were held Wednesday, June 16, 2004. Wolfe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Gary was born June 21, 1947 in Los Angeles, CA, to Franklin Sumner and Marjorie Schroeder. He died June 10, 2004, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Gary married Donna Schleis on June 20, 1994, in Omaha, NE. He had worked as a security guard in Omaha before moving to Villisca.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother and step-father John Tiemann.
He is survived by his father, Franklin Sumner of Fall Brook, CA; wife Donna Tiemann of Clarinda; children Georgia Lawrence of Clarinda, Marjorie Banks of Atlantic, Tammy Banks of Omaha, Brenda Tiemann of Omaha, Jenelle Tiemann of Omaha, and Cathrine Tiemann of Clarinda; seven grandchildren; a brother john Tiemann and sisters Sandy Hirnack and Luanna Tiemann, both of Omaha.
ETHEL IDA SCHOLEY
Funeral services for Ethel Ida Scholey of Villisca were held Thursday, June 10, 2004 at the First Presbyterian Church in Villisca. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery. Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca was in charge of arrangements.
Ethel Ida Scholey was born July 9, 1919, near Brooks, IA, the daughter of William Frederick and Eva Lena (Roberts) Leiner, and died Monday, June 7, 2004 at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center, where she had been a resident since 2002.
Ethel married Wade Scholey on March 30, 1944 in St. Paul, MN. To this union two children were born, Kathy and Fred.
Ethel had helped families with housework, and worked at Gambles and Spurgeons for a while. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Villisca, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Her hobbies were quilting, embroidering and she loved antiques.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents and husband Wade.
She is survived by her daughter Kathy Litten and husband Ralph of Liberty, MO, son Fred Scholey and fiancee Janet Bowling of Villisca, two grandchildren, Felecia Morris and Trevor Litten, and three great-grandchildren, Madison and Carson Morris and Gillian Litten.
