GALEN F. RUSSELL
Funeral services for Galen F. Russell of Clarinda, IA, were held Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Pastor Alvin Trusty officiating. Burial was at the Braddyville Cemetery, Braddyville, Iowa.
Galen Frank Russell was born January 26, 1913, at Elmo, Missouri, to Joseph Leonard Russell and Nellie Estella (Yaple) Russell. He died November 9, 2003, at Clarinda Regional Health Center, Clarinda.
Galen was raised on the farm and went to White Chapel country school and graduated from Elmo High School in 1930. He farmed with his father, other area farmers, and worked at the Clarinda Mental Health Institute before being drafted into the United States army serving in Australia, New Guinea, and the Philippines from March 1942 to November 7, 1945.
Galen was united in marriage to Jennie Louise Hardee on July 20, 1942. Before retiring to Clarinda in 1985, the couple farmed near Shambaugh, Iowa; Parnell, Missouri; and Villisca, Iowa where they lived for thirty years.
Galen loved nature and enjoyed hunting pheasant and quail, ran a trap line as a boy, and did some fishing. Galen belonged to Calvary Baptist Church in Clarinda, Iowa actively participating in all activities there. He enjoyed traveling the United States to attend reunions with his second family, the 387th quartermasters.
Galen was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Nell Russell; brothers, Raymond Russell, Lee Russell, Emmett Russell. And sisters, Marjorie Gear and Lola Jean Burns; brothers-in-law, Earl Snodderly, Arthur Kenning and Dorman Milligan; and sisters-in-law, Beverly Hardee and Ella Russell. Galen is survived by his wife, Jennie Louise Russell of Clarinda; his children: Dr. Roderick R. Russell of Window Rock, AZ; and Gayle Strickland and her husband Robert P. Strickland of Oakland, IA. His grandchildren, Jenna Kristine Strickland and her husband Adam P. Schlismann of Omaha, NE; his two sisters, Helen Snodderly of Clearmont, MO, and Mary Ethel Kenning of Mesa, AZ. And numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorials may be directed to the Calvary Baptist Church, Clarinda, Iowa. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
RUBY O. SORENSEN of Bethesda area.
Ruby O. Sorensen, the daughter of Albert and Mary (Gordon) Warnaca, was born February 27, 1914 in Massena, Iowa. She died on Tuesday, October 21, 2003 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 24 days.
She grew up on a farm near the Morton Mills Union Church. She was united in marriage to Walter Sorensen on September 11, 1929 at Maryville, Missouri. They farmed 7 ? miles east of Essex on the Bethesda road for 58 years and raised four sons. After moving off the farm, Ruby and Walter lived in Villisca. Walter died on February 18, 1997. Ruby spent a short time in the Villisca Good Samaritan Center and the Stanton Care Center. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, husband, oldest son Merle of Stanton, five brothers and two sisters.
Ruby is survived by three sons; Marvin Sorensen of Red Oak, Iowa, Melvin Sorensen and wife Darlene of Mead, Nebraska and Mahlon Sorensen and wife Kathy of Casper, Wyoming; 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 27, 2003 at 10:30 A.M. At the Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery Rev. Albert Baker, Officiating

BRADLEY JAMES WALLICK
Memorial services for Bradley James Wallick will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel of Faith Church in Indianola, IA. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Indianola.
Bradley James Wallick was born July 30, 1960, and died September 30, 2003. He was the son of Jim Wallick of Villisca and Roberta (Wallick) Lucas of Hartford, IA.
Brad is survived by his mother and stepfather, Roberta and Wayne Lucas; his father and stepmother, Jim and Diane Wallick; his sister, Jami Fridley, nephew Wade Fridley, nieces Jenna and Whitney Fridley; brother, Justin Wallick; stepsisters, Teresa Gray and husband Daniel, Debbie Gray and husband Gary, Bonnie Berggren and husband Doug, Linda Dawson, Diane Sneller and Kathleen Nickkel; stepbrothers David Waldron and Gene Lucas; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
JOE SAMUEL COPELIN
Funeral services for Joe Samuel Copelin of Villisca were held Monday, October 13, 2003 at the Rose Hill Church in Clarinda with Charles Mayer and Albert Baker officiating. Burial was at the Arlington Cemetery, Villisca. Joe Samuel Copelin was born March 2, 1929, near Guss, IA, to John David and Effie May (Noble) Copelin. He died Wednesday morning, October 8, 2003 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, following an extended illness.
Joe attended Frog Pond elementary school and graduated Villisca High School. He was married to Millicent Crussell, July 27, 1952 at Rose Hill Church, Hepburn, IA.
Joe was a farmer and also school bus manager for Villisca School system. He was a member of Rose Hill Church, Hepburn, and the Advent Christian Church, Villisca. Joe has served as Rose Hill's church treasurer, building trustee and usher, Rose Hill Church Society president, and Rose Hill Cemetery Association president and treasurer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin infant brothers Darwin and Delbert; sister, Ruth Speed; and brothers-in-law Delbert Johnson and Kenneth Speed.
He is survived by his wife, Millicent of Villisca; daughter, Denise Copelin, Villisca; sisters, Lila Johnson of Red Oak, IA, and Mary Speed, Huxley, IA; and in-laws Cleo and Walter Mowry of Shenandoah, IA, Frankie and Woody Nicholas of Coral Gables, Fl, and Clemmeth and Pauline Crussell, Clarinda, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorials are suggested to Heifer Project, Advent Christian Church or Goldenrod Manor Nursing Home, Clarinda.

DAVID LEROY HEDSTROM
David Leroy Hedstrom was born January 6, 1939 in Villisca, Iowa. David was the son of Marion and Florence (VanGilder) Hedstrom. He lived in Villisca and attended Villisca public schools with the class of 1957. David died April 6, 2003 in Knoxville, Iowa. Services were held at the Chapel of Faith with the Rev. John Long officiating. His cremains were returned to the Strand Cemetery for private family burial on October 1st, 2003. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and both of his parents. He is survived by his sister, Ellen Emory of Knoxville, five nieces and nephews, an aunt, Esther Hedstrom of Villisca, and cousins, Susie Enarson and Harold Hedstrom, also of Villisca.
JOHN MARTIN OLSON
John Martin Olson was called home to be with the Lord on October 7, 2003, at the age of 61 years, 2 months and 6 days, following a courageous battle with cancer. During his journey on earth, John rejoiced in life with a caring spirit and lively sense of humor.
John was born to Martin Arthur Olson and Aina M. Carlson Olson on August 2, 1942 in Red Oak, Iowa. He grew up on farms in the Stanton area, graduating from Stanton High School in l960. John Olson and Carla Faye Edie became one in marriage at the Stanton Covenant Church on August 4, l962 and this union was blessed with three children, Jeffrey, Douglas and Cheri. Along with working on the family farm north of Stanton, John took an electronics course from DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago and he used that training to service small electrical equipment and do industrial wiring.
In 1978 John and Carla felt called by God to serve as managers of Twin Lakes Bible Camp at Manson, Iowa, where they ministered until l982. The family then moved to Pomeroy, Iowa, where John did commission sales and was self-employed in roofing and electrical work. In l990 they returned to Stanton where John "spread warmth" as an employee of the Black Propane Company. John delighted in being part of a gospel quartet with his brothers, Paul, Philip and David, and also expressed his strong faith in God through leading an adult Sunday School class, serving in many church leadership positions, being a church and community choir member and choir director, and sharing the good news of the scriptures from the pulpit on various occasions.
One of John's childhood dreams became a reality when, as a young man, he achieved a private pilotís license and enthusiastically flew small aircraft as a hobby for many years. John was active in the community and was a member of the school board, Optimist Club, Chamber of Commerce, Red Oak Toastmasters, served as mayor of Stanton for six years, and was honored to be the recipient of the "Ole" award in 2002.
John was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Aina Olson. John will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather by his devoted wife Carla; treasured children Jeff and his wife Wendy of Overland Park, KS; Doug and his wife Patty of Cheyenne, WY; Cheri Lass and her husband Tim of Urbandale, IA; cherished grandchildren Courtney, Matthew, Christopher, Nathan, Abigail, Sarah, David, Andrew John and Jacob; brother; Paul and wife Harriett, Philip and wife Norma, David and wife Frances all of Villisca, IA; nieces, nephews and other beloved family and friends.

JEANETTE LINDELL
Mable Charlotte Jeanette Lindell, the daughter of Elmer J. and Mernie (Larson) Dahlquist was born November 21, 1914 near Stanton, Iowa. She died on Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at the Stanton Care Center in Stanton, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 16 days.
Jeanette was raised in the Stanton community and graduated from Stanton High School in l931. She was united in marriage to Harry Milton Lindell on March 6, 1937 at Stanton, Iowa. Jeanette and Milton lived on a farm northeast of Stanton, moving in l951 to a farm southeast of Villisca. They moved to Red Oak in l987. During her years on the farm she belonged to a neighborhood ladies club. She was a member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church and Eunice Circle. Jeanette enjoyed cooking, reading and listening to church music.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on November 6, 1992, and 3 brothers, Loren, Corne and Gene. Jeanette is survived by a daughter; Betty Blunt and husband Lee of Oelwein, Iowa, two sons; Don Lindell of Red Oak, Iowa and Darle Lindell of Lincoln, Nebraska; 4 grandchildren; Robin MacKnight and husband Chris of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jeff Lindell and wife Reka of Des Moines, Iowa, Kris Moeller and husband Craig of Oelwein, Iowa and Marc Blunt of Evansdale, Iowa; 9 great-grandchildren; Teagan, Trey, Savanna, Daphne, Mason, Maura, Mycah, Merek and Ally; a brother; Maynard Dahlquist of Loveland, Colorado; other relatives and a host of friends.
