MARGARET ELIZABETH KHUN
Funeral services for Margaret Elizabeth Khun of Red Oak, IA, were held April 11, 2005, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, IA, with the Rev. Sandra Wainwright officiating. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery.
Margaret Elizabeth Kuhn died April 6, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Center in Red Oak. Margaret was born January 14, 1917, in LaVern, IA, the daughter of Samuel and Elda (Limpke) Miller.
Margaret married Raymond Dacken in 1932; he preceded her in death in 1945. She married Dannie Kuhn November 28, 1945, in Carroll, IA.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and the Red Oak Eagles Lodge. Margaret and Dannie had wintered in Arizona for over 18 years. Her hobbies were reading and traveling.
Margaret is survived by her husband Dannie Kuhn of Red Oak, IA; son Raymond Dacken and wife Chaliew of Blythe, CA; daughter Barbara Elaine Huntington and husband Tim of Meza, AZ; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren and one sister Ivabelle Adreon of Sandyville, IA. Plus nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond Dacken; son Larry Kuhn; grandson Randy Dacken; sister Lois Miller; brother Lawrence Miller and daughter-in-law Pat Dacken.
Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church or the Red Oak Good Samaritan Center.
HESTER A PENRY
Graveside memorial services for Hester A. Penry, 75, of Corning, Iowa will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 11,2005, at the Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, Iowa. A memorial is being established.
Hester died April 3, 2005, at the Corning Nursing & Rehab. She was born August 23, 1929, in Taylor County, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest Ray and Elma (Ziehe) Briggs. She married David Penry August 17, 1946, he preceded her in death in September of 1981.
Hester is survived by two daughters: Victoria Langdon and husband Arthur of Tacoma, WA and Leigh Hood and husband Tom of Jamestown, IN. Three grandchildren, three great grandchildren, sisters: Grace Jett of Shenandoah, IA and Marjorie Sullivan of Denver, CO
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant brother Donald Briggs and sister Pearl Hunter.

HESTER A. PENRY
A memorial graveside service for Hester A. Penry of Corning, IA, will be Saturday, June 11, 2005, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak, IA.
Hester A. Penry died Sunday, April 3, 2005, at the Algent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning. Hester was born August 23, 1929, in Taylor County, IA, near Guss. She was the daughter of Ernest Ray and Elma (Ziehe) Briggs.
Hester married David Penry August 17, 1946 in Villisca, IA. He preceded her in death in September of 1981. She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Corning. Hester collected recipes, enjoyed spending time with children, cooking and attending Democratic Conventions.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant brother Donald Briggs and sister Pearl Hunter.
Hester is survived by her daughters Victoria Lynn Langdon and husband Arthur of Tacoma, WA and Leigh A. Hood and husband Tom of Jamestown, IN; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and two sisters Grace Jett of Shenandoah, IA and Marjorie Sullivan of Denver, CO; plus nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

MABLE E. KELLEY
A Celebration of Life service for Mabel E. Kelley of Oakland, IA, was held April 5, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church in Red Oak, IA, with internment at the Villisca Cemetery.
Mabel Esther Kelley was the eighth child born to Swedish immigrants Melker and Mary Louisa Olander Peterson on February 23, 1911, in the Guss, IA, area. She died April 1, 2005 at Oakland Manor where she had resided since February.
After the death of her father, the family moved to Villisca. Upon graduation in 1930, she worked for Krale's Bakery in Villisca.
She was married to Russell Roberts of Villisca. In 1956, they moved to Red Oak. There she worked for Woolsworth Five and Dime. Russell died in 1963.
On December 22, 1971, she was married to Elbert Kelley at the First Methodist Church in Red Oak. They resided on a farm east of McClelland. She enjoyed farm life, especially the large garden they grew.
Mabel was a fifty-six year member of the Eastern Star, Advisor to Rainbow Girls of Red Oak and a member of the Business Women's Group in Red Oak.
She was preceded by death by her parents; first husband Russell; son Elwyn Kelley; brothers Delmar, Carl, George, Clarence and Milton; and sisters Ruby and Grace.
Mabel is survived by husband Elbert; daughter Shirley Bishop and husband Richard; son Leland Kelley and friend Linda; two sisters Edith Loutzenhiser of Bedford, IA, and Peggy Dickenson of Arleta, CA; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; along with many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Hospice. Henry-Livingston Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
JUNE BALOG
June Balog, 62, of Villisca, IA, died Friday morning, April 1, 2005, at her home in Villisca following a short illness. She was born on June 10, 1942, in Villisca at the Lewis Nursing Home/Hospital, along with her twin sister on their father's birthday. June was the daughter of Glenn and Eula (Moritz) Guss.
She attended Villisca High School, graduating with the class of 1959. After sometime in Des Moines, IA June went to Omaha to work for Northwestern Bell.
On August 7, 1960, June married Joseph Balog at the United Methodist Church in Villisca, IA. Three children were born to this union; Juneanne, Joey and Janell. June enjoyed her earlier years raising her children in Odessa, TX After the children were grown she went to work at Cloth World, adding to her love of sewing, quilting and crafts.
In 1992, June moved back to Villisca, IA where she cherished being close to her mother and various siblings. Helping to raise two granddaughters and later helping to raise another granddaughter. She was employed throughout this time at Burcliff, Sunbest Papetties and had worked the last 8 years at Traco in Red Oak. Her favorite activities were baking, sewing, bowling, collecting owls, visiting over coffee and the Casino life and spending time with family and friends. June attended church at the Advent Christian Church in Villisca.
She is survived by her children: Juneanne McIntosh of Odessa, TX, Joey Balog and wife Sveta of Hobbs, NM and Janell Auxier of Villisca, IA. Grandchildren; Candiz Jo Boudreau of Odessa, TX, Elizabeth McIntosh of San Marcus, TX, Courtney Auxier of Villisca, and Anastasia Balog of Hobbs, New Mexico. Brothers and sisters: Ronald Guss and wife Johan of New Market, VA, Merwin Guss and wife Wanda of Winterhaven, FL, Roma Ingersoll of Villisca, IA, Shirley Fidler and husband Jird of Villisca, IA, Janet Echternach of Council Bluffs, IA, Wayne Guss and wife Wendy of Sandy, Utah, Sandra Kinser and husband Gail of Villisca, IA and Joan Perdue of Villisca, IA. Also many nieces, nephews relatives and friends.
June was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at the Wolfe Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Guss, IA. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Wolfe Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Montgomery County Relay for Life.
LOWELL BARR
Funeral services for Lowell Barr of Clarinda, IA, were held March 30, 2005, at Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Clarinda with Rev. Jerome Wagoner officiating. Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
Lowell Barr died Sunday evening, March 27, 2005, at the Shenandoah Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born August 29, 1932 near Bethesda, IA, the son of R.H. (Hal) and Nellie (Hartstack) Barr. He was baptized on October 6, 1932 and confirmed April 14, 1946 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Clarinda.
Lowell graduated from the Clarinda High School in 1950. He joined the Army National Guard and served his country from 1954 - 1956 and spent one year in Japan. On November 20, 1960 he was married to Donna Muller at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Yorktown, IA. Lowell farmed his entire adult life on the family farm north of Bethesda. Besides farming and taking care of his cattle herd, Lowell loved to fly.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister and brother; his father-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Donna of the home; daughter Beth Mincer and her husband Dave of Hamburg, IA; daughter Kathy Blouch and her husband Randy of Peachtree City, GA; son Mike Barr and his wife Sherry of Villisca, IA; daughter Pam Lampe and her husband Paul of Lees Summit, MO; daughter Marsha Lampe and her husband Joel of Lees Summit, MO; son Merlin Barr and his wife Brooke of Clarinda, IA; grandchildren Aaron, Caleb and Elayna Mincer; Jordan and Leah Barr; Joshua and Mikayla Lampe; Benjamin Lampe and Paige Barr. Lowell is also survived by a brother Robert Barr of Clarinda, IA; brother Harry Barr of Lincoln, NE; sister Barbara Nothwehr and her husband Lyle of Clarinda, IA; mother-in-law Wilma Muller of Clarinda, IA; brothers-in-law, Duane Muller and his wife Lorenne of Clarinda, IA; Robert Muller and his wife Soni of Lincoln, NE; and John Muller and his wife Linnea of Marshall, MO.
Memorials were suggested to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Clarinda Lutheran School. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel of Clarinda was in charge of arrangements.
MAXINE L. AKERS
A funeral was held at 11:00 A.M. Monday Feb. 14, 2005 at Columbia Funeral Home for Maxine L. Akers who died Feb. 9 at age 86.
Maxine L. Stevenson was born Oct. 17, 1918, in Villisca, IA.
A homemaker, she lived in Vernonia before moving to Warren in 1964. She moved to St. Helens in 2003. In 1937, she married Oscar; he died in 1991.
Survivors include her sons, Larry, David and Norman; daughters Sharon Johnson and Rose Burch; brothers, Claud Stevenson: sister, Shirley Hayes; 19 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.

ROLLAND W. "ROLLIE" DUNN
Rolland W. "Rollie" Dunn, 93, of Plattsmouth, formerly of Kearney, died Monday, Feb 7, 2005, at the Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth.
Services were held at 10 A.M. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Kearney with the Rev. Ron Harris officiating and rites by Masonic Lodge 46 A.F. and A.M. of Kearney. Graveside services were held at 11:30 A.M. Saturday at Chariton, (Iowa) Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Olson officiating. Visitation was one hour before service time Friday at the church in Kearney.
Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney was in charge of arrangements.
He was born Aug. 17, 1911, in Montgomery County, Iowa, to Augustus and Myrtle (Devine) Dunn.
On May 11, 1941, he married Margaret Lee in Bethany, MO. She died May 13, 2003.
Survivors include his sister, Kay Kallos of Kansas City, MO.
Additional survivors include his brother-in-law, Greg Kallos of Kansas City: sisters-in-law, Lauren Dunn of Nodaway, Iowa, and Amelia Montgomery of Des Moines, Iowa; Nieces and nephews Candy Tannehill of Wiggins, CO. Gayle Dunn of Axtell, Doug Dunn and wife, Michelle, of Overland Park, KA. Carolyn Sanburn and Jeff Bush of Lenox, IA, Chris Dunn and Stan Dunn and wife, Brenda, all of Nodaway, Kent Dunn of El Dorado, CA., Sally Patton and husband, Bill. Of Des Moines, Mary Helen Montgomery of CA., and Donna Hollis and husband, George, Linda Person and Husband, Tommy and Cheryl Prude and husband, Jeff; many great nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He attended rural schools in West Point and Villisca, Iowa. He and his wife of 62 years were avid travelers and enjoyed their many trips throughout the United States visiting family and friends. He served in the U.S. Army and was discharged from the service Dec. 9, 1943. He also served in the National Guard and held a variety of jobs during his working years. He and his wife lived in Des Moines, and he was employed by the Burlington Bus Co. as a ticket agent, managed a bowling alley and managed Spurgeons Department Store. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a very active member of the Masonic Lodge in Kearney. He took much pride in the number of people he coached in his association with the lodge.
He was also a member of the Tehamah Shrine in Hastings and First United Methodist Church in Kearney and was very active until poor health prohibited him from regular attendance.
In addition to his wife, three brothers, two sisters and a nephew preceded him in death.
