GLADYS PEARL GOVIG
Funeral services for Gladys Pearl Govig of Stanton, formerly of Red Oak, IA, were held October 21, 2004, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, with Pastor Chris Hall officiating. Burial was in the Arlington Cemetery, near Villisca.
Gladys Pearl Govig died Monday, October 18, 2004, at the Stanton Care Center, where she had been a resident since September 1, 1999. Gladys was born February 8, 1915, in Villisca, the daughter of Aleck Edward Newberg and Flossie L. (Thurber) Newberg.
Gladys married Chester Govig on July 1, 1934, in Shenandoah, Iowa. to this union six children were born: Ed, Ron, Joyce, Myrna, Merlin, and Allen. Gladys was a farmer’s wife and had worked as a cook at several County Homes.
She is survived by her children: Ed Govig and wife Pam of Red Oak, IA, Ron Govig and wife Stella of Red Oak, IA, Myrna Lombard and husband Robert of Red Oak, IA and Merlin Govig and wife Kay of Clive, IA. Ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, one step grandson, two step great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren. Sisters: Fern Potter and Louise Smith of Red Oak, IA, Emma Kuhn of Villisca, and Dorothy Briggs and husband Bill of Ohio. Brothers Wilbur Newberg and wife Sarah of Malvern, IA, Roy Newberg and wife Ruth of Atlantic, IA, Ray Newberg and wife Charlotte of Clarinda, IA and Malon Newberg and wife Ilene of Independence, MO, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Joyce and son Allen, sisters; Elsie Haven, Iva Lee Lawson and Delta Shafer, grandsons; Robbie Govig, Elden Penry and Darwin Penry.
A memorial is being established. Wolfe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Anna Mae Wasson
Anna Mae Wasson, age 58 of Council Bluffs, passed away Sept. 28, 2004 at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs. Anna was born Feb. 13, 1946, the daughter of Lee and Dorothy Ruth Tripp. Anna was an all around fun-loving person who worked as a nurses' aide and custodian; including working at a nursing home in Villisca for 10 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her son Tracey Wasson.
Anna is survived by her son Todd and his wife Candace; daughter Vickie Welch and her husband Brian; 6 Grandchildren; brother Terry Armstong and his wife Chris; many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
There will be a visitation with the family on Thurs. from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Henry~Livingston Funeral Home in Council Bluffs. There will be a Celebration of Life Graveside Service on Fri. at 2:00 p.m. at the Villisca City Cemetery.
Betty A. Gourley
Betty was born in Chicago, IL on June 29, 1915 to Mary Brown and Laurent Arnold. When her Father died, Betty and her Mother moved to Battle Creek, Iowa; where her mother married Edwin Lindsay of Ida Grove, who adopted her. Betty died in the Special Care Unit of New Mark Care Center, Kansas City, MO, on October 9, 2004.
In 1933 she graduated as Valedictorian from Ida Grove, IA high school. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority at Simpson College, Indianola, IA when she graduated in 1940. Betty came to Villisca to work for Tyler's Coca Cola; then she moved to Nashville, TN to work for the Methodist Publishing House.
Betty married Walter Gourley on January 10, 1943 in Ida Grove, IA; they farmed and lived in Morton Mills where they raised four children. She got her teaching certificate at NWMSU, Maryville, MO, then taught for ten years in Atlantic, IA.
Betty was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church, a 55-year member of P.E.O. In 1988 Betty was the Iowa Hospice Volunteer of the Year. She loved caring for others, gardening, playing the organ & piano; Betty was a friend to everyone she met. Volunteering was always the center of her life.
After Walt died in 1986, Betty moved to Mayflower Homes, Grinnell, Iowa; in April, 2000, Betty moved to New Mark Care Center, Kansas City, MO.
Betty is survived by: 2 sisters: Laura Lou Paulsen, Mesa, AZ; Colleen Lindsay, Garland, TX; 3 children Floyd, Fairfield, IA and wife Karen, Shenandoah, IA; Fred & wife Kris, Derby, KS; Elzene, Kansas City, MO; 3 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by: her husband Walter L Gourley; son Major Laurent Lee Gourley; sister Mary Alice Noll; and brother James Lindsay.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at Wolfe Funeral Home, Villisca, Iowa with Rev. Sandra Wainwright officiating and Pastor Gordon Scott assisting. Visitation with the family will be 7-8:30 p.m., Monday, October 11, 2004, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Villisca Cemetery, Villisca, Iowa.
Memorials are welcomed for Hospice services; donations may be sent to the Hospice of your choice or to Betty Gourley Memorial Fund at Wolfe Funeral Home. Wolfe Funeral Home, Villisca, Iowa is in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth "Ken" Gangestad
Funeral services for Kenneth “Ken” Gangestad 76, of Villisca, formerly of Atlantic, Iowa will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday October 5, 2004, at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, Iowa, with Reverend Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the Atlantic Cemetery. Following the graveside family will gather with family and friends at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic. Memorials may be directed to the Villisca Fire and Rescue, the Mamrelund Lutheran Church or to the family. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 Monday evening at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca.
Ken Gangestad died suddenly Saturday, October 2, 2004 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. He was born on December 2, 1927, in Eagle Grove, Iowa the son of Florence (Ransford) and Maurice Gangestad. The family lived in Eagle Grove where he graduated from high school in 1946. He was married to Norma Chelesvig on June 20, 1948, in Eagle Grove, Iowa. After their marriage they lived in Eagle Grove, Sac City, Carroll, Tama, Atlantic for twenty-five years and then moved to Villisca in 1985.
Ken was a livestock buyer for Armour and Company for thirty years and Montford and Company for seven years, before he retired in 1993. He was a member of the St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic, IA and the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, IA. Ken was an active member of the Lion’s Club in Atlantic and Villisca. He was an Scout Master for the Boy Scouts for fourteen years in Atlantic and received the highest honor for a volunteer – the Silver Beaver award. Throughout the years, he continued to volunteer in Boy Scout’s locally. Ken’s hobbies were woodworking, crafts, golfing and traveling.
He was preceded in death by is parents Florence and Maurice and a brother Richard Gangestad
Ken is survived by his wife Norma of Villisca, IA, four children: Bruce Gangestad and wife Mary of Marion, IA, Colleen Gangestad of Creston, IA, Diane Eilts and husband Duane of Massena, IA and Alan Gangestad and wife Terri of Waterloo, IA. Ten grandchildren, three step grandchildren, five great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. One brother Melvin and wife Phillis of Two Harbors, MN and a sister in law Mary Gangestad of Goldfield, IA. He was brother in law to: Joyce Olson and husband Cliff, Thomas Chelesvig and wife Pat, Ruth Helmiclc, Charles Chelesvig and wife Evelyn, Joseph Chelesvig and Ellen, James Chelesvig and wife Caye and Julie Chelesvig. Plus many other relatives and friends.

DEBORA S. FENGEL
Funeral services for Debora S. Fengel of Riverton, IA, were held September 27, 2004, at the Methodist Church in Riverton with the Rev. Norman Walter officiating. Burial was at the Riverton Cemetery.
Debora Fengel died September 23, 2004, at the Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg, IA. She was born September 4, 1954, at Ft. McClellan, AL, the oldest child of Donald and Florence (Ward) Eggers. She attended school in Riverton, graduating from high school in Farragut in 1973.
Deb was united in marriage to Gale H. Fengel on June 5, 1977, at the Methodist Church in Riverton. She worked at Our House Childcare Center in Shenandoah, IA, and was a member of the Riverton Methodist Church, the Riverton Fire Department Auxiliary and the Riverton Community Club.
She is survived by her husband Gale of Riverton; three children Tony Fengel of Kansas City, MO, Danielle Fengel of West Des Moines, IA, and Nathaniel Fengel of Riverton; her parents Donald and Florence Eggers of Riverton; a brother Kenny Eggers and wife Brenda of Riverton; and sister Carrie McQueen and husband Jeff of Riverton.
Memorials may be given to the Riverton Rescue Squad. Shull-Gude Funeral Home, Riverton, was in charge of arrangements.

ETHEL MARIE DELLINGER
Funeral services for Ethel Marie Dellinger of Villisca, IA, formerly of Nodaway, IA, were held October 2, 2004, at the Nodaway United Methodist Church in Nodaway. Burial was at the Nodaway Cemetery.
Ethel Marie Dellinger died September 28, 2004, at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center, where she had been a resident.
She was born February 22, 1910, near Pulaski IA, in Davis County, the daughter of John and Eva (Cowles) Kropf. She married Bernard (Bernie) Dellinger January 5, 1929, in Ottumwa, IA. Bernie died in November 1982.
Ethel attended Center County School in Davis County and graduated from Pulaski High School in 1928. She lived in Iowa all of her life except for six years in Wyoming. Ethel has lived in Nodaway since 1945. She worked at the Eveready Plant in Red Oak for twenty one years, from 1952-1973. Ethel was a member of the Nodaway Methodist Church, U.M.W. and Circle. She enjoyed playing Bingo and planting a garden.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Ina Baugher, brother Dale Kropf and a son-in-law Gene Jewell.
She is survived by two children: Ruby Jewell of Cawker City, KS, and Edward Dellinger and wife Susan of Plattsmouth, NE. Three grandchildren: Melody Ast and husband Don of Derby, KS, Holly Krogman and husband Greg of Topeka, KS and Rachele Ellison and husband Darrell of Derby, KS. Seven great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Plus one sister-in-law Genevieve Kropf of Bloomfield, IA.
