GEORGE RICHARD TUTTLE
Funeral services for George Richard "Rick" Tuttle of Canton, IL, were held September 24, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak, IA, with Kieffer Lehman officiating. Burial was at the Evergreen Cemetery.
Rick Tuttle died September 19, 2004 in Canton after an extended illness with lung cancer. Rick was born October 12, 1957 in Red Oak, the son of George and Nadine (Holm) Tuttle.
He was raised in Red Oak, received his GED and later received degrees in electronics and TV repair. Rick has lived many places throughout the country, most recently living in Canton, IL.
He was preceded in death by his mother Nadine Johnson, step-father Stanley Johnson and a nephew Dillon.
Survivors include his children: Rick Tuttle of Cedar Rapids, IA; John Tuttle of Tipton, IA; Tara Tuttle of IL; Jessica Young of Clarinda; and Noah Kretsinger of Stanton; two granddaughters, Bailey and Mia of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Steven Johnson of Griswold and Rodney Johnson of Red Oak; four sisters Holly Webb of Villisca; Janette Lucky of Stanton; Angie Clemens of Stanton; and Lori Philpott of Villisca; grandmother: Dorothy Holm of Red Oak; many aunts and uncles; longtime friend Connie Williams of Villisca and other relatives and friends.
Memorials are suggested to the family. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
EULA IRENE GUSS
Eula Irene Guss, age 95, a lifelong resident of the Villisca area, passed away September 25, 2004, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA following a short illness.
She was born in Montgomery County on February 2, 1909, to Frank and Cora (Whan) Moritz. She attended Villisca High School, graduating with the Class of 1927. Following graduation of teachers college she taught at the Hazel Dell country school.
On October 5, 1930, Eula was married to Glenn Guss at Atlantic, IA in the Methodist Church parsonage. Nine children were born to this union. Eula was busy raising thier children in the early years of her marriage while they farmed in the Guss, Villisca and Nodaway area. The family moved to Villisca in 1952 where they owned the Guss Restaurant for several years and in 1972 she retired from the Mental Health Institute of Clarinda, IA, where she worked as a nurse aide. She was a member of the Methodist Church, was an avid reader of books, enjoyed crocheting, working puzzles, listening to music and visiting with the family. She was considered an outstanding cook by her family and her numerous grandchildren affectionately called her "Little Grandma".
Eula was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn on April 20, 1984; sister, Velma Edwards; brother, Orval Moritz; sister-in-law, Mary Moritz; grandson, Mark Echternach; great grandson, Eric Guss; daughter-in-law, Jan Guss and sons-in-law, Bill Moates, Tom Ingersoll and Keth Echternach.
She is survived by her children: Ronald Guss and wife Johan of New Market, VA, Merwin Guss and wife Wanda of Winter Haven, FL, Roma Ingersoll of Villisca, IA, Shirley Fidler and husband Jird of Villisca, IA, Janet Echternach of Council Bluffs, IA, Wayne Guss and wife Wendy of Sandy, UT, Sandra Kinser and husband Gail of Villisca, IA, June Balog of Villisca, IA, and Joan Perdue of Villisca, IA; 28 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; 21 great, great grandchildren; and a brother, Elvin Moritz and wife Ruth of Red Oak, IA.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 30, 2004, at Wolfe Funeral Home, Villisca, Iowa with Pastor Gordon Scott officiating. There is open visitation at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, Guss, Iowa. A memorial will be established. Wolfe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
RICKI JAE O'ROURKE
Funeral services for Ricki Jae O'Rourke, formerly of Villisca, were held in Hampden, CT, on September 23, 2004. Graveside memorial service and inturnment will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 9, 2004, at the Garden of Memories in Waterloo, IA, with the Rev. Jerry Thordsen officiating.
Ricki died September 20, 2004, at his home Meriden, CT, from a heart attack. He was born November 8, 1951, in New Hampton, IA, the son of Wallace Aegerter and Beverly (Tufts Aegerter) O'Rourke. He moved to the Villisca area with his family 1963.
Ricki was the cross-country state champion in 1970. He graduated from Villisca High School. After graduation, he served in the United States Coast Guard at various locations and was Chief Petty Officer in New Haven, CT, when he retired after twenty years. He was recently employed at GEI Calgraph of North America as a customer service engineer. He also had his own business of supplying and programming computers for daycare centers.
Ricki's first marriage was to Sherry Volkmer of Red Oak, IA, in 1972. To this union was born a son Shawn in1974. He married Christine Osborne in 1979 in Massachusetts. He later married Stacy Shellard in Connecticut, and to this union were born Christopher in 1989 and Brian in 1991.
Ricki was preceded in death by a son Shawn, his stepfather Terrance O'Rourke, his grandfather Arthur Tufts, grandfather Randall Aegerter and grandmother Evelyn Marvets Teidt.
Ricki is survived by two sons, Christopher O'Rourke and Brian O'Rourke of Hamden, CT; their mother, Stacy Shellard; grandson Matthew O'Rourke of Kansas City, MO; mother Beverly (Tufts Aegerter) O'Rourke of Hazleton, IA; father and stepmother Wallace and Louise Aegerter of Shelby, MT; grandmother Blossom Tufts of Waterloo, IA; brothers, Kim and wife Teresa O'Rourke of Waukee, IA; Brian Aegerter and R.D. Aegerter of Montana; sisters, Tamara Tufts of Shenandoah, IA, Jina and husband Edd Roberson of Corsicana, TX, and Teri Shannon and husband Michael Atherley of Oelwein, IA; Nicole and husband Mark Anderson of Montana and Sharon O'Rourke of Alabama. And several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

NORMA ANDERSON
Funeral services for Norma Anderson were held September 20, 2004, at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, IA, with the Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating. A private family burial was held prior to services at the Evergreen Cemetery in Red Oak.
Norma Anderson was born on September 5, 1907, in a farmhouse southwest of Stanton, Iowa, the daughter of Otto and Otelia (Dahlquist) Honette. She died on Wednesday morning, September 15, 2004, ten days after her 97th birthday, at the Stanton Care Center where she had received nurturing care since 1997.
Norma attended country school until the eighth grade; then she and her brother Herb drove a horse and buggy to attend school in Stanton, where she graduated from high school in 1924. Norma went on to college at Iowa State and then to Northern Iowa University where she earned her teaching credential. She taught English and Home Economics at both Coburg High School and, as she liked to sing-song, "Quasquiton on the Wapsipinicon."
Although their parents knew each other, Norma first met her future husband, Harold M. Anderson of rural Red Oak, on the train to Ames their freshman year. They married on December 21, 1929, at the Nyman church. Andy's assignments in the Soil Conservation Corps took them to several Iowa county seats over the years: Knoxville, Fairfield, Albia, Indianola, and Osceola. In the 1970's they returned to their Swedish roots and retired in Stanton. Over these many years Norma belonged to Tri-T, various Lutheran church groups, the Albia Board of Education, and the Halland Village Board. She would substitute teach and for some time worked in the retail clothing business. Along with her volunteer work, Norma loved to cook and sew and entertain, especially for bridge parties and for her family. She was a woman of friendliness and wit and almost stunning frankness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on May 2, 1984, her sister Ino Anderson, and her brother Herb Honette.
Norma is survived by three children: Jerry Anderson and wife Carolyn of Haymarket, VA, Joan Reed and husband Twain of San Jose, CA, Melinda Anderson-DeRegil and husband Alvaro of Moorpark, CA and by adoring grandsons: Steve Anderson and wife Janet of Boston, MA, Todd Anderson and wife Alissa of Arlington, VA, Aaron Reed of Casablanca, Morocco, and Tyler Reed of San Francisco, CA.

HARRY STRICKLAND, JR.
Funeral services for Harry Strickland, Jr., of Stanton, IA, were held Monday, September 20, 2004, at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, with burial in the North Page Cemetery, rural Villisca.
Harry Strickland Jr. 80, of Stanton, Iowa died September 17, 2004, at the Good Samaritan Center in Villisca, Iowa, where he had been a resident since September 30, 2003.
He was born March 4, 1924, in Page County, IA, on the family farm, the son of Harry A. Strickland and Rose (Kelley) Strickland. Harry married Charlotte Lantz, April 6, 1945, at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, IA. To this union four children where born: Julie, Joel, Janean and Joan.
Harry enjoyed farming, coon hunting, playing cards and attending the car races. He also enjoyed his time at the Villisca Elevator drinking a Pepsi and telling funny stories.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, brother; Lloyd Strickland and wife Helen, brothers-in-law: Malcolm (Bus) Victor, Allan Levine and Levi Lantz.
He is survived by his wife of the home, children: Julie Newman and husband John of Stanton, IA, Joel Strickland of Stanton, IA, Janean Hart and husband Rod of Stanton, IA and Joan Staples and husband Richard of Corning, IA. Eleven grandchildren: Ingrid (Gong-Gong) Newman and husband Matthew Perkins of Emerson, IA; Andrew (Drewser) Newman West Des Moines, IA; Kyle (Kyser) Newman of Ames, IA; Ashley (Hilma) Strickland & fiancé John McDonald of Treynor, IA; Aubrey (Fed) Strickland of Ames, IA; Austin (Slug) Strickland of Stanton, IA; Jason (Rosco) Hart and wife Katie of Stanton, IA; Ryan (Willie) Hart of Stanton, IA; Brianne (Chicken Hannah) Hart of Ames, IA; Jamie (Potzie 1) Fast Noakes and husband Nathan of Davenport, IA; Erica (Potzie 2) Fast Borja and husband Dennis of Davenport, IA; and one step grandson Mike Staples of Creston, IA. LONNIE D. ROSS
Funeral services for Lonnie Dean Ross of Elliott, IA, were held Friday, September 3, 2004, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gordon Scott officiating. Burial was at the Hillside Cemetery in Elliott.
Lonnie D. Ross was born August 31, 1961, in Red Oak to Clarence and Ruth (Long) Ross. He died on Tuesday, August 31, 2004, as a result of injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident near his home.
Lonnie was raised near Elliott and graduated from Griswold High School in 1980. He was married to Gail Baldwin on July 31, 1982, in Villisca.
They have lived most of their married life near Elliott. Most recently, Lonnie was working at Nishna Valley Cycles in Atlantic. His passion was motorcycles and racing. He traveled to Spain and Australia with his Enduro Racing. While in Australia, he won a silver medal in the international six-day event. He was a member of Team USA.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Ada Long and Ed and Frances Ross; father-in-law Joe Baldwin; and uncles Leslie Long, Roy Dickerson and Paul Platt.
Lonnie is survived by his wife Gail Ross of Elliott; parents Clarence and Ruth Ross of Elliott; sister Shirley Strauss and husband Brook of Elliott; brother Mike Kelly and wife Vickie of Elliott; mother-in-law Dorothy Baldwin of Villisca; brothers-in-law Richard Baldwin and friend Kim of Grant, Marvin Baldwin and wife Liz of Malvern, and Kenneth Baldwin and wife Melinda of Villisca; nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial fund is being established.
KENNETH PULLEN
Kenneth Lee Pullen was born March 3, 1951 in Elmo, Missouri, the son of Max Eugene Pullen, Sr. and Dorothy Dean (New) Pullen.
He attended Clarinda Schools. He later served in the United States Army where he was a M16 Sharpshooter and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal. Kenny worked most of his life for Gus Construction. For the past seven years he worked as an operator for Iowa Waste of Red Oak. Kenny loved the outdoors. The joy of his life was his family, especially his grandchildren.
Kenny is survived by his wife Vicki of Villisca, children: Allan Searl and wife Kristi of Clarinda, Sheila Runyon and husband Dick of Shenandoah, IA, Jodie Smith and Gary Bennett of Clarinda, Frank Pullen and wife Dawn of Clarinda, Rachael Carter and Michael Defriese of Charleston, TN, Ryan Pullen of Red Oak, IA, Brittney and Courtney Pullen of the home; nine grandchil-dren; father Max Pullen of Clarinda; brother Gene Pullen and Nancy Westphal of Corning, IA; brothers-in-law: Dave Carroll of Fairmont, NE, Steve Carroll and wife Sheryl of Minden, IA, Mike Carroll of Avoca, IA, Kevin Carroll and wife Tiffiny of Council Bluffs, IA; sister-in-law Traci Schimpf and Hans Mix of Bellevue, NE; mother-in- law Carol Carroll of Fairmont, NE; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Kenny was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy New Pullen and his father-in- law Robert Carroll.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 17, 2004 at Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel in Clarinda with Rev. John Clark and Steve Carroll officiating. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery near Hepburn. A memorial fund is being established.
