KEITH B. “BUD” VANDERHOOF
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 20, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Chris Burgett officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family.
Keith B. “Bud” Vanderhoof of Red Oak, IA died Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at the Creighton Medical Center in Omaha, NE after an extended illness.
Bud was born July 29, 1923 in Red Oak, IA; the son of George Dewey and Georgia (Bailey) Vanderhoof. He was raised and lived all of his life in Red Oak. During World War II, Keith served his country in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Hattie “Zearilene” Harding on February 12, 1946 in Seneca, KS. They purchased their acreage outside of Red Oak in 1947 and lived there for 50 years. Keith worked as the manager for the Wilson Lumber Company, worked at the mercantile elevator, and Johnson Brothers Construction. Keith was a carpenter for many years. He retired from Montgomery County as a Bridge Foreman. Keith enjoyed his grandchildren, collecting John Deere Memorabilia, and also exotic animals which he raised.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Zearilene Vanderhoof on March 5, 2005; daughter: Georgia Bruce; 3 brothers: George, Robert, and Bill Vanderhoof; and a sister: Phyllis Lane.
Bud is survived by his children: Diane Hicks and husband Jim of Red Oak, IA; Dennis Vanderhoof of Red Oak, IA; Jeff Vanderhoof and wife Amy of Villisca, IA; and Karla Benston of Red Oak, IA; 13 grandchildren: Barb Wilson, Allen Hale, Brian Hale, Bobbie Bruce, Kevin Vanderhoof, Rhonda Sowers, Deanna Evans, Daniel Vanderhoof, Lisa Vanderhoof, Scott Vanderhoof, Jill Vanderhoof, Ashley Benston, and Bailey Benston; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 4 sisters: Joy Kite and husband Jay of Whitney, TX; Colleen Sands and husband Wayne of Red Oak, IA; Anna Mae Maples and husband Willis of Springfield, MI; Betty Marinsen and husband Marty of Springfield, MI; 3 brothers: Darwin Vanderhoof of Marionville, MI; Dewey Vanderhoof and wife Ovella of Marionville, MI; and Allen Vanderhoof and wife Mary of Whitney, TX; and many other relatives and friends.

KENNETH NARIGON
Dr. Kenneth D. Narigon died at his home in Widomar, CA, on June 2, 2004. Burial was at Riverside National Cemetery. He had been ill several years.
Ken was born November 12, 1917, to William and Mae Narigon in Nodaway, IA. He graduated from Villisca High School in 1934. Ken married Gelda Haney and had two daughters. He spent many years in the military, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Ken was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack and Dwain, sisters Floral and Francis Murphy, Aural and husband Cas Kendall, half-brother Harold Narigon and wife Olive, sister Jessie Kapple and Virgal Kapple, and his parents, Bill and Mae.
He is survived by wife Gelda, daughters Jan and Kenna and their husbands; grandchildren Megan, Ryan, Mathew and Beth; sister-in-law Winona Narigon; cousins, nieces and many friends in Villisca and California.
Gelda resides at 23100 Harbor Seal Ct., Widomar, CA 92595-7956.
HAROLD B. WHITE
Funeral services for Harold B. White, of Villisca, IA, were held Thursday, September 9, 2004, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, with Rev. Robert Beard officiating. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery.
Harold B. White died Monday, September 6, 2004, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. He was born December 10, 1919, in Page County, Iowa, the son of Frank G. White and Emma (Dyke) White.
Harold married Ruth Alice Stinemates October 17, 1945 in Clarinda, IA. Ruth preceded Harold in death on July 16, 1996. He graduated from Villisca High School in 1939 and attended electrical school in Coin, IA, for one year.
Harold served in the Army Air Corps from February 28, 1942 until October 11, 1945, during this time he supported the following campaigns: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.
Harold had done farming, carpentry, electrical work and welding. He enjoyed fishing, watching sports, especially baseball, woodworking and gardening. Harold was a member of the V.F.W. Wesley R. Miller Post #8998 and the American Legion Post Ker-A-Vor Post 251 in Villisca.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth, two infant brothers and four great grandchildren.
He is survived by his children: David White and wife Ardith of Bella Vista, AR; Ann Bennett and husband Levi of Villisca, IA; Marvin White and wife Julie of Villisca, IA; Howard White and wife Elaine of Spring, TX; and Carol Foote and husband Larry of Red Oak, IA. Fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. One brother Robert White and wife Diane of Hannibal, MO. Sisters: Mildred Mueller and husband Gilbert of Atlantic, IA and Jane Bradrick of Clarinda, IA. One sister in law Marie Stinemates of Norfolk, NE. Plus many other nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
Memorials may be directed to the V.F.W. camera fund or the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Hospice Room.
ANNA P. JOHNSON
Funeral services for Anna P. Johnson of Villisca, IA, formerly of Red Oak and Grant, were held Saturday, September 11, 2004, at the Our Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Jerry Wagoner officiating. Burial was in the Grant Cemetery.
Anna P. Johnson died Monday, September 6, 2004, at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center after an extended illness.
Anna Phillipine Johnson was born January 15, 1907, in Platte Center, NE, the daughter of Louis and MaFanda (Hassebrook) Gehring. She was raised in Platte Center.
After school she worked on the family farm until her marriage to Leonard Johnson on September 8, 1938 in Platte County, NE. They moved to a farm east of Grant, IA, until 1944 when they moved to a farm south and west of Grant. Their son Harlan now lives on the family farm. Anna and Leonard moved to Red Oak in 1969 after their retirement. Leonard preceded Anna in death on March 5, 1979. Anna has been a resident of the Villisca Good Samaritan Center since January of 2001. She was a member of the Our Savior Lutheran church, LWML, and the Thimble Club.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leonard Johnson; daughter Wilma Schmit in 1980; brothers Johnny and Ernest Gehring; and a sister Mable Martensen.
Survivors include three sons: Harlan Johnson and wife Wanda of Elliot, IA; Clyde Johnson and wife Barbara of Bellevue, NE; and Dale Johnson and wife Sandy of Villisca, IA; daughter Barb Roberts and husband Larry of Park Rapids, MN; son-in-law Leland Schmit of Bellevue, NE; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brother Clarence Gehring of Columbus, NE; brother-in-law: Jimmie Johnson of Lake Ozark, MO; and many other relatives and friends.
Memorials are suggested to the Our Savior Lutheran Church or the Villisca Good Samaritan Center.

JULIA CHRISTINA HARTER
Funeral services for Julia Christina Harter were held Saturday, September 4, 2004, at Roland's Funeral Home in Atlantic. The Rev. Annette K. Ruhs Kruse of the Wiota Methodist Church officiated. Her intermenty was at the Atlantic Cemetery.
Julia Harter was born May 22, 1909 to Blanche (Rousseau) and John Bernard Jipsen, Sr., in Atlantic, IA, and died August 29, 2004 at her son's home in Corning, IA.
She graduated from Atlantic High School in 1920. Julia married Arlie B. Harter on January 19, 1929. They resided on farms northeast of Atlantic during their 55 years of marriage.
Julia taught in Benton Township, Wiota, and Atlantic schools for 28 years. She retired in 1972. During her teaching career, she attended Drake University for advancement in education curriculum.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arlie (1984), and son, James Stanley Harter (1929); four sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by her son, Gary Harter and Eva Breakenridge of Corning, daughter, Gloria Devereaux and her husband, Chuck of Council Bluffs; six grandchildren and spouses, Dick and Susan Devereaux of McClelland, IA, Julie (Devereaux) and Jeff Lester of Council Bluffs, Kim (Devereaux) and Richard Whiteacre of Council Bluffs, Dean and Susan Devereaux of Council Bluffs, Leslie (Harter) and John Larson of St. Paul, MN, and Anne Margaret Harter of Villisca; 14 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister-in-laws, Lola Mae Jipsen of Elkhorn and Lucille Harter of Orient; a brother-in-law, Ray Hansen of Atlantic.
Memorials will be donated to Wiota Methodist Church, Alegent Health Family Homecare, Corning, Iowa Hospice.
JACK ALLEN GRAY
Funeral services for Jack Allen Gray of Villisca, IA, were held Saturday, September 11, 2004, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, with Don Barnett, officiating. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery.
Jack Allen Gray died Wednesday, September 8, 2004, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. Jack was born June 22, 1935, near Nodaway, IA, the son of Harold A. Gray and Claire M. (Mithchell) Gray.
Jack married Dessa (Joann) Piercy on June 17, 1956, in Corning, Iowa. He had farmed near Villisca all of his life. Jack was an avid horse puller. His father was also a horse puller, and Jack has passed on the tradition to his sons and grandsons. His favorite part of farming was harvesting the crops and running the combined.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margueritte Kehr and Ruth Perrin and husband Dallas; brother Paul Gray; son-in-law Donnie Swanson; and sister-in-law Marilyn Gray.
He is survived by his wife Joann of Villisca; children Dennis Gray and wife Pam of Villisca, Douglas Gray of Kingfisher, OK, Debora Swanson of Clarinda, IA, Daniel Gray and wife Teresa of Villisca and Denise Sunderman and husband Charlie of Villisca, IA. Fifteen grandchildren, brothers Bill Gray and wife Jo of Stanton, IA, Jim Gray of Prescott, IA sister-in-law Carolyn Gray of Prescott, IA and brother-in-law David Kehr of Rifle, CO, plus many other relatives and friends.
A memorial is being established.
EVA M. CROXDALE
Funeral services for Eva M. Croxdale of Alamogordo, NM, were held August 21, 2004, at the Hamilton-O'Dell Chapel in Alamogordo with the Rev. Mary Taken officiating. Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be in the Villisca Cemetery in Villisca, IA, under the direction of Wolfe Funeral Home.
Eva M. Croxdale was born March 16, 1912 to Ora Helen (VanDeventer) and Corbin Goldsberry in Shelby, IA. She died Tuesday, August 17, 2004 in Alamogordo.
She married Edward L. Croxdale, and worked while he was in medical school. They had a son, Michael Bruce. Upon returning from service in the Pacific theater during WWII, Edward set up practice in Villisca as a general practitioner and Eve was the office manager. The Croxdale's were close to Jerry Ziehe, who became like a son to them, and to their nephew Robert Moore. Son Michael became a doctor, marrying Judith Gerow, and having a son, Leyton Edward Croxdale. Jerry Ziehe was a pilot in the USAF. Michael, Jerry and Robert all served in Vietnam; Jerry died there.
After the early death of her husband, Eva moved to Des Moines and then ultimately Alamogordo, NM, where she played many rounds of golf and hands of bridge.
Eva was preceded in death by her four siblings: Ike, Dwayne, Dorothy and Colene; her husband, Edward Lee Croxdale; her son, Michael Bruce Croxdale; Jerry Ziehe; and infant daughter, Susan Van.
She is survived by Leyton and Lisa Croxdale, Robert and Lynn Moore and Danny, and Jeff Goldsberry, numerous wonderful friends.
