Vendell Ossian
Funeral services for VenDell Ossian of Stanton, IA, were held Saturday, August 7, 2004, at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, with the Rev. Dr. George Hooper officiating. Burial was at the Mamre Cemetery. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Vendell F. E. Ossian, was born April 15, 1911, the son of Luther and Anna (Anderson) Ossian in Stanton, and died Wednesday, August 4, 2004, at the Stanton Care Center.
Vendell was raised and lived his entire life in the Stanton Community. He worked several years at Schenck's Grocery in Stanton. Vendell was active in the Stanton community, attending as many community and school events as possible. In 1993 Vendell became a resident of the Stanton Care Center. Vendell enjoyed celebrating his birthday parties at the White City Inn. He was a member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Desmond Ossian.
Vendell is survived by a niece, Patricia Lane and husband Ralph of Greenfield, IA, and two nephews, Darwin Ossian and wife Frankie of Jasper, AL, and David Ossian and wife Lucy of Creston, IA, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins, along with a host of friends.
Memorials may be made to Mamrelund Lutheran Church or Stanton Care Center.

EDITH FRANCES ANDERSON
Graveside services for Edith Frances Anderson of Villisca, IA were held Friday, July 30, 2004 at the Arlington Cemetery near Villisca with Rev. Chris Hall officiating.
Edith Frances Anderson was born November 3, 1908 in Lark, ND, the daughter of Edward and Alice (Whan) Noble, and died Sunday, July 25, 2004 at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center where she had been a resident since 2002.
Edith graduated from Villisca High School in 1926. She married Joseph Leroy Anderson September 1, 1926. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1975. Edith had worked at the Newbury Department Store in Santa Ana, California until the age of 88. She moved to Villisca in the summer of 1997. Edith enjoyed spending time with her family and enjoyed sewing.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Zelda Resh.
She is survived by her daughter, Gwen Loghry of Villisca, sons: Art Anderson and wife Gwen of Bend, OR, Gary Anderson and wife Pat of Orange , CA, four grandchildren: Joanna Baker and husband Verl, Jerry Loghry, Chris Lipscomb and husband Dennis, Heather Belis and husband Tim, nine great grandchildren, nineteen great great grandchildren, and a sister/cousin Lois Frazee of Villisca.
A memorial is being established.

NORA PEARL PORTER
Funeral services for Nora Pearl Porter were held Monday, July 26, 2004 at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, IA with the Rev. Eric Kutzli officiating. Eternment was at the Zion Cemetery in Orient, IA.
Nora Pearl Porter was born January 21, 1912 at Hamburg, IA, the daughter of Ernest and Mary (Adkins) Brown, and died Friday, July 23, 2004 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA.
Nora was raised and attended school at Hamburg, IA. She lived many years in Shenandoah before moving to the Stanton community in the 1950's. She was united in marriage to Dick Jones, after his death she was married to Gust Nelson and after his death; Nora was united in marriage to Ralph Porter on July 2, 1962 in Stanton, IA. She was a member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church, Senior Citizens Center and a past member of the Twentieth Century Club. Nora was always helping others during her lifetime, with driving friends places or picking things up for them.
Nora was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, a son, Robert, and a daughter, Shirley, and 3 sisters.
Nora is survived by her husband, Ralph Porter of Stanton, IA, children: Charles Stambaugh of Roberta, CA, William Jones and wife Karen of Afton, IA, Ronald Jones and wife Judy of Coin, IA, Ralph E. Porter and wife Cathy of Seattle, WA, Nancy Ryckman and husband Walter of Omaha, NE and Joanne Marshall and husband Howard of Seattle, WA; 25 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, 3 sisters, Mrs. Ruth Ruttledge of Loveland, CO, Mrs. Ernestine Duncan of Denver, CO and Dorothy Johnson of Coin, IA, along with other relatives and friends.

ROBERT A. DUNN, JR.
Funeral services for Robert A. Dunn, Jr., of Nodaway, IA, were held Sunday, July 18, 2004, at the United Methodist Church in Corning, IA.
Robert A. Dunn, was born on November 10, 1943, in Peoria, IL, to Robert A. Dunn, Sr., and Laurena (Focht). He died July 15, 2004, in Red Oak, IA.
Bob moved to the Nodaway area in 1948 with his family, graduating from Villisca High School in 1961. In 1960, Bob began working for Thompson Electric in Corning, IA, and also began serving in the Villisca National Guard.
He married Christine Wood on June 9, 1968. They lived in Nodaway and had two children, Rachel and Rob.
Bob worked for Thompson Electric until 1994, when he began Bob's Antenna Service. He ran his business until his death. Bob retired from the National Guard in 1997. He was involved in the Nodaway community as a member of the Nodaway Methodist Church, the Nodaway City Council and the Nodaway Volunteer Fire Department.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Robert; father-in-law, Francis Wood; and brother-in-law Sidney Wood.
He is survived by his wife, Christine; daughter Rachel (Rick) Pederson of Fort Dodge, IA; son Robert A. Dunn III, Cedar Falls, IA; mother, Laurena Dunn, Nodaway; sister Carolyn Sanburn (Jeff Bush), Lenox; brothers Kent Dunn, El Dorado, CA, and Stan (Brenda) Dunn, Nodaway; mother-in-law Marjorie Wood, Corning; sister-in-law Annabelle Wood, Prescott; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Burial is at the Arlington Cemetery in Villisca, IA. Funeral arrangements were by Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service in Corning.

CLETA JOY ARCHER
Funeral services for Cleta Joy Archer, of Clarinda, IA, formerly of Villisca, IA were held Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Villisca, with Rev. Jerome Wagoner will be officiating. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery. Wolfe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Cleta Joy Archer was born December 31, 1930 in Cass County, IA, the daughter of Every (Herman) and Vivian Ermal (White) Carlson, and died Thursday, July 1, 2004 at her home in rural Clarinda.
Cleta was a 1948 graduate of the Villisca Community Schools. She married Robert Dean Archer on June 25, 1958 in Phoenix, AZ.
Cleta had worked at the Villisca Locker, Berry Seed Company, Nodaway Valley National Bank and the Clarinda Company. She worked for the Clarinda Company as an estimator and secretary for seventeen years and retired in 1989. Cleta had also worked part time for the Wolfe Funeral Home. She moved to Clarinda in 2003.
She was a member of the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Villisca. Her hobbies were quilting, handwork, gardening, reading and she had a special interest in genealogy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one son, Jerry.
Cleta is survived by her daughters: Carol Balgemann and husband Richard of Clarinda, and Vicki Wagoner and husband Kenneth of Clarinda; one son, David Archer of Clarinda; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother, Kevin Carlson of Hillsboro, OR, and one sister, JoAnn Hess and husband Carroll of Centralia, WA; nieces, nephews, an aunt, Donna Cramer of Shenandoah, IA, plus many other relatives and friends.
A memorial is being established.

DONALD EDWARD HOLDREN
No funeral was held for Donald Edward Holdren of Chula Vista, CA. Remains were interred at the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, CA.
His U.S. burial flag will be returned to Villisca to fly proudly in the Court of Honor along with those of his brothers.
Donald Edward Holdren was born July 20, 1926 in Montgomery County, IA, the last of thirteen children to John and Cora (Hendrickson) Holdren, and died June 27, 2004 at his home in Chula Vista.
Don grew up in the Villisca area and graduated from Villisca High School in 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November of 1943, one of four Holdren brothers to serve in WWII. Don attended boot camp and gun fire control school in San Diego and was assigned to the USS Burleson, which participated in the invasion of Okinawa. Following other engagements, they returned to Okinawa to prepare for the invasion of Japan. He remained in the Navy until his discharge in 1946, with a rating of FC 1/c.
In civilian life, Don managed theaters in Beverly Hills, Santa Barbara, Seattle and San Francisco for many years before returning to retail business. He retired in 1991 to live in Chula Vista. Don never married.
He was preceded in death by sisters: Doris Else, Mabel Lacox, Helen Holdren, Eula Brock, Estaleen Lenhart; and brothers, Harley, Judd, Marvin, George and Kenneth, as well as two infants.
