HENRIETTA HUTCHINSON BAKER
Henrietta Hutchinson Baker died April 2, 2006, in Aurora, Colorado of Cancer. She was born May 14, 1925, in southwest Iowa. As a small child she found a loving home with Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bontrager of Villisca, Iowa.
In September 1930, Henrietta entered kindergarten at the Lincoln school in Villisca. Here she found friends who remained close to her all her life. She graduated from Villisca High School in May of 1943. That year she starred as “Penny” in the senior class play, “Don’t Take My Penny.” It was during her high school years that Henrietta acquired the affectionate nickname “Dopey,” but later in life she preferred to be called Henri.
She was married to Dan Baker, who preceded her in death, as did her adoptive parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Bontrager of Villisca, brother R.D. Bontrager of Garden Cove CA. and sister Cecyl Dunn of Denver CO.
Henri was a skilled typist and stenographer; but her career was cut short some twenty years ago by a speeding car which left Henri, a pedestrian, disabled for the remainder of her life. Whenever her health permitted, she attended the reunions of the Class of 1943. Fifteen years ago, Henri initiated a “round robin” letter, which still circulates among eight of her childhood friends and classmates. This letter will continue, as a memorial to her.
Henrietta leaves a brother, Robert Hutchinson, his wife Margaret, and their children, of Arvada, CO. In Villisca, Iowa she leaves an adoptive niece, Mrs. Barbara ( Andrew) Crussell.
Gifts in Henrietta’s memory may be sent to Hospice of Metro/ Denver, 501 S. Cherry St., Suite 700, Denver, CO 80246-1328.
