JANICE LEE VETTER
Janice Lee Vetter, the daughter of Harry H. and Aura (Jackson) Swanson, was born August 15, 1937 in Red Oak, Iowa. She died on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 68 years, 7 months and 10 days.
Janice was raised in Red Oak, graduating from Red Oak High School in l955. She then attended Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in l958 as a Registered Nurse. Jan was united in marriage to Merlin R. Vetter on April 6, 1958 in Red Oak. They lived northeast of Red Oak, where they farmed and raised their family. She did part time nursing and volunteered many hours for the American Red Cross Bloodmobile. Jan was a member of the Pilot Grove United Methodist Church where she served as organist for many years, as well as a board member and various offices of the United Methodist Women. She found her greatest joy and pleasures in time spent with family and friends and doing for others. Jan especially loved gardening and fishing with her father and caring for grandchildren whenever needed. Jan was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert.
Jan is survived by her husband, Merlin Vetter of rural Red Oak, IA; one daughter, Barb Allen and husband Mark of rural Stanton, IA; two sons, Greg Vetter and wife Lisa of rural Red Oak, IA and Gary Vetter and wife Kris of rural Elliott, IA; eight grandchildren, Brayton, Bryce and Kara Allen, Mallie, Mandie, Sydney, Jacob and Jordan Vetter; one aunt, Virginia Marquart of Seal Beach, CA, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

BILLIE ANN FOOTE
Billie Ann Foote, the daughter of George and Golden was born January 3, 1928 in Montgomery County, Iowa near Grant. She died on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 78 years, 2 months and 15 days.
Billie grew up and attended school at Grant, Iowa. On January 16, 1944 she was united in marriage to Lawrence R. Foote in Red Oak, Iowa. To this union 5 children were born, Gary, Terry, Sheryl, Larry and Brian. They lived west of Grant until 1954, when they moved to Stanton, Iowa. Billie took pride in raising her family. She worked 10 years with the Stanton Care Center in the dietary department. Billie's hobbies included cooking, sewing and crafts. Her favorite pastimes were watching her kids playing sports in school and later came her true love of watching her sons Terry, Larry and Brian and grandson Randy race every Saturday night at Adams County Speedway. She was a member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church. Billie was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Mitchell and Walter and 2 sisters, Betty and Savilla, and a granddaughter, Cathy Sue.
Billie is survived by her husband of 62 years Lawrence R. Foote of Stanton, Iowa; four sons, Gary L. Foote and wife Karen of Camdenton, MO, Terry A. Foote and wife Janice of rural Red Oak, IA, Larry D. Foote and wife Carol of Red Oak, IA and Brian L. Foote and wife Barb of Essex, IA; a daughter, Sheryl Koopmeiners and husband Ron of Council Bluffs, IA; 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; a brother, Teddy Weston and wife Donna of Grant, IA; brother-in-law, Ed Foote of Stanton, IA; sister-in-laws, Phyllis Schuler of Atlantic, IA and Beatrice Adams of Griswold, IA, other relatives and a host of friends.

SHERRYL L. WILLIAMS
Sherryl L. Williams died peacefully at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames on March 7, 2006. There will be no funeral service. Memorials will be used to establish a scholarship in Sherryl's name at Villisca High School for students entering those professions dedicated to the care of others.
Sherryl was born on November 9, 1939, to Clifford and Della Stevenson of Humboldt, Iowa. She graduated from Iowa State University where she met Don Williams. They were married on December 17, 1960, and then went to farm in Villisca where they resided for many years. More recently, Sherryl and Don divided their time between homes in Villisca and Ames to enjoy their grandchildren and their many activities.
Sherryl is survived by husband Don; son Tom and family of Villisca (wife Cindy, daughters Michelle and Renee); daughter Cynthia Feller and family of Ames (husband John, children Andrew, Ben and Jessica); son Rod Getting and family of Lincoln, NE (wife Mary, sons Travis and Braden); sister Pam Evans and husband Paul (Lexington, KY); and brother Braden Stevenson and wife Nancy (Des Moines). She is also survived by 18 nieces and nephews stretching from Florida to California and numerous great- nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by infant grandson Kyle (Tom and Cindy) and both her parents.
Early in their marriage, Sherryl and Don were a shelter for many troubled foster children. She was good at welcoming them, making them feel safe and sending them on their way stronger than when they arrived. Sherryl was also a talented person as demonstrated by her hobbies of weaving and basket making, just to name a few. She leaves behind a group of fellow weavers known as the Wildwood Weavers who are very special and gave her many fond memories. Another important group in her life was her Pi Beta Phi sorority sisters. They have kept in touch for over 40 years, laughing and crying together.
Sherryl will be remembered for her willingness to help others, her great love of family and friends, and her strong determination. She was a treasured wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be deeply missed by many.
Sherryl's family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Michael Guffy and his entire staff (McFarland Clinic in Ames) for their care and dedication.
JAY L. CLARK
Jay L. Clark, 75 of Villisca, Iowa, the son of Lee H. and Edna (Hammer) Clark was born June 15, 1930, at the farm home just north of Hawleyville, IA. He died Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at his home in Villisca.
Jay grew up in Page County, Iowa. He graduated from Villisca High School in 1949. After which he attended Southwest Community College in Clarinda, until the whole basketball team decided to enlist. Jay served in the U.S. Air Force as a medic and dental tech, while in Korea.
In 1953 he was united in marriage to Donna Hughes of Shambaugh, IA. They have one son; Don and two daughters; Debra and Diane. The first year of marriage they were stationed at Sioux City, IA. They then moved to the Villisca area in 1954.
Clark Construction was started in 1955, when Jay bought the first backhoe in the area. This was quite a change because everything was previously dug by hand. Customers could not believe the digging could be done by machine so quickly.
Jay enjoyed his farm and timber. Of course his grandchildren were the most special to him. They always put a smile on his face. Jay was a member of the United Methodist Church in Villisca.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Lee and Edna (Hammer) Clark, brother in law Wendell Meyer, father and mother in law; Floyd (Tad) and Isa Hughes and brother in law Charles Hughes.
Jay is survived by his wife Donna of Villisca, IA, son Don Clark and wife Alice of Villisca, IA, daughters Debra Franson and husband Greg of Grant, IA and Diane Burns and husband Chris of Alexandria, VA. Grandchildren; Kyle and Brian J. Franson, Conor, Shannon and Brogan Burns; two-step grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren. Sisters; Joyce Meyer of Clarinda, IA, Birdice Targove of Denver, CO and Barbara Des Jardien of Clarinda, IA, plus nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2006, at the United Methodist Church in Villisca with Pastor Gordon Scott officiating. Burial will be in the Villisca Cemetery. Military rites were by the Villisca American Legion Ker-A-Vor Post 251. Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church or the Heartland Hospice. Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca were in charge of arrangements.
GLEN MELVIN ASKLOF
Glen Melvin Asklof, son of Swedish immigrants, C.A. and Hulda O. (Edstrom) Asklof, was born on March 21, 1916, on the family farm in Frankfort Township, Montogomery County, Iowa. He passed away on Monday, February 27, 2006, at the Montgomery County Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 89. He was baptized at home in Montgomery County, Iowa. He was confirmed at Tabor Lutheran Church in Wallin, Iowa where he was an active member and served as Sunday School Superintendent. Glen was proud of his Swedish heritage.
He attended country school through the eighth grade and graduated from Villisca High School with the Class of 1933. Following graduation he farmed in the Stanton and Villisca area. On October 6, 1944, Glen was united in marriage to LaDonna Mae Ruth at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, Iowa. To this union were born three daughters and one son. He was employed by the Farmers Mutual Telephone Company and Nyman Electric in Stanton until 1965, they moved to Essex and he became manager of the Farmers Telephone Company. He retired in 1981.
Preceding Glen in death were his parents; three sisters; four brothers and one grandson, Marc Creger. Survivors include his wife LaDonna Asklof of Essex, IA.; three daughters, Rita Oberg and husband Dave of Shenandoah, IA., Ruth Fridolfson and husband Lyle of Somers, IA., Linda Wolfe and husband John of Shenandoah, IA.; one son Gene Asklof and wife Desi of Ames, IA.; ten grandsons, Lane and Brandi Oberg of Layton, UT., Eric and Dawn Oberg of Valparaiso, IN., Jeffrey and Stacy Creger of Northwood, IA., Grant Creger and fiance’ Andrea Hansen of Perry, IA., Matthew and Mandy Creger of Ft. Dodge, IA., Mike Creger of Covington, GA., James Wolfe of Omaha, NE., Joseph Wolfe of Shenandoah, IA., and Geoffrey Asklof and Ryan Asklof of Ames, IA., one great granddaughter and seven great grandsons; one brother, Helmer Asklof of Villisca, IA.; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, March 3, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Essex. Words of comfort were given by Pastor John Swenson. Organist was Judy Lundgren. Daughter, Ruth Fridolfson, sang the first verse of "Children Of The Heavenly Father" in Swedish and the congregation sang verses one through four in English. The Congregation also sang "What A Friend We Have In Jesus". Caring for the flowers were Max and Lucille Carlson and Phillip and Shirley Rattenborg. Attending the memory register were Fred and Becky Streitenberger. Casket bearers were Lane Oberg, Eric Oberg, Jeffrey Creger, Grant Creger, Matthew Creger, Michael Creger, James Wolfe, Joseph Wolfe, Geoffrey Asklof and Ryan Asklof. Ushers were Larry Glasgo and Marvin Wickersham. Burial was in the Mount Hope Cemetery at Nyman. Memorials are being directed to St. John's Lutheran Church or Essex Fire & Rescue. LUCILLE JOHNSON
Lucille Johnson, 87, of Nodaway, Iowa died Wednesday, February 22, 2006, at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center in Villisca, Iowa, where she had been a resident since November 3, 2003.
Lucille was born December 24, 1918, in Little Rock, Arkansas, the daughter of Clarence Edmond and Alla Eugenia (Tharp) Blacklock. She married George Walter Johnson October 7, 1943, in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Lucille was a member of the Maple Grove United Methodist Church, the U.M.W., the Calico Maids and Helping Hands clubs and the Rose Ann Auxiliary in Corning. She was active in the church, serving as Sunday school teacher, directing Christmas programs, singing for funerals and weddings and helping wherever needed. Lucille enjoyed crafts, flower arranging and spending time with family and friends. She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman.
She is survived by her husband George Johnson of Nodaway, IA; children: Donald Paul Johnson and wife Lilian of Story City, IA; Carol Ann and husband Terry Krone of Denver, CO; Kay Louise and husband Gilles St. Pierre of Montreal, Quebec, Canada; Joyce Lynn and husband Clifford Koch of Omaha, NE; Keith Edmund Johnson and wife Denise of Mission, KS; Jan Leigh and husband Steve Rawson of Colorado Springs, CO; Kurt Wesley Johnson and wife Deanne of Gravity, IA; and Chris Tina and husband Timothy Howe of Russellville, AR; eleven grandchildren: Lynnay and husband Erich Hites of Story City, IA; Darren Johnson and wife Sarah of Ames, IA; Coquina Koch of Omaha, NE; Regina Quaas and husband Michael of Shawnee, KS; Jeremy Johnson of Dallas, TX and fiancée Tracy Langston of Topeka, KS; Heidi Johnson of Mission, KS; Hannah and John Rawson, both of Colorado Springs, CO; Justine, Michael and Natalie Johnson, all of Gravity, IA; four great grandchildren: Isaac, Danny, Karissa, Madison and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Julia Blacklock and Agnes Lovil and brother Oscar Blacklock.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2006, at the Maple Grove United Methodist Church in Guss, IA. Burial was in the Guss Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Maple Grove United Methodist Church. Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca were in charge of arrangements.
BARBARA STEVENS
Barb Stevens, age 59, of Clarinda, Iowa died Friday, February 24, 2006, at Westridge Quality Care & Rehab Center, Clarinda, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M., Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, Iowa with Rev. Walden Paige officiating. Visitation with the family will be held 7-8 p.m., Monday, February 27, 2006 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, rural Villisca, Iowa. A memorial will be established. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Barbara Ann Stevens was born August 20, 1946 at Red Oak, Iowa to Harley B. Bangston and Wilma B. (Buffington) Bangston. She was a 1964 graduate of Villisca High School. Barb graduated from William Penn College, Oskaloosa, Iowa with honors in 1968. On October 19, 1974, she was united in marriage at Villisca, Iowa to Robert Stevens. Barb taught at Lone Tree, Iowa. She also had worked at the Glenwood State School and Clarinda Mental Health Institute and most recently had worked some at Westridge Quality Care & Rehab Center. Barb had assisted with the Faith, Food and Fellowship group. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Clarinda, Iowa. Barb enjoyed history. Following her mother's death in 1972, Wilma (Miller) Bangston later became her devoted second mother.
Preceding Barb in death were her parents; two infant children. David D. Stevens and Timothy L. Stevens; step daughter, Rachelle Stevens; step son, Paul A. Stevens. Survivors include her husband Robert Stevens of Clarinda, Iowa; son, Robert J. (Robbie) Stevens of Clarinda, Iowa; step-son, Danny Stevens of Canada; brother, Richard Bangston of Omaha, Nebraska; sister, Dr. Martha L. (Marty) Shockey and her fiancé, Keith Eckles of St. Louis, Missouri; step-mother, Wilma E. Bangston of Villisca, Iowa; nieces and nephews.
