JOHN S. BAKER
John Sherman Baker 106, of Villisca, Iowa died Monday, February 20, 2006, at the Villisca Good Samaritan Center in Villisca, Iowa, where he had been a resident since November 8, 2001. He was born December 25, 1899, in Montgomery County, Iowa, the son of George W. and Eva (Dunn) Baker.
John married Helen Dilley on May 7, 1921, in Corning, Iowa, she preceded him in death on June 25, 1983. John was a member of the United Methodist Church in Villisca. He farmed in the Villisca area for most of his life. John lived in Washington State for six years and in Alaska for one year. He was an avid deer hunter and shot his last deer when he was 92 years old. He wrote a book of his memories when he was in his eighties. He also served in the Army National Guard for four years during WWI.
John is survived by his daughter: Gwendolyn Anderson and husband Arthur of Bend, Oregon and son Laurence Baker and wife Charlotte of Stanton, Iowa. Four grandchildren: Craige Baker and wife Kathy of Palmer, Alaska, Becky Parkhurst and husband Jack of Lincoln, NE, John L. Baker and wife Cheri of Villisca, Iowa, and Chris Lipscomb and husband Dennis of Bend, Oregon, eight great grandchildren, twelve great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen, son John L. Baker, great grandson Brian Baker, daughter in law Dorothy Baker four brothers: Frank, Archie, Carl and Chester and two sisters: Avon and Nina.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2006, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, IA. Visitation will be held before services from 12:30 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in the Arlington Cemetery, near Villisca, IA. Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church or Villisca Fire and Rescue. Wolfe Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.
RONALD D. KAMMERER, SR.
Ronald D. Kammerer, Sr., age 68 of Nodaway, Iowa, the son of William and Christina (Jackson) Kammerer was born July 19, 1937 at Shenandoah, Iowa. He died on Sunday, February 19, 2006 at Villisca Good Samaritan Center, Villisca, Iowa at the age of 68 years and 7 months.
Ron grew up in the Imogene area. In 1952, he moved to Red Oak. On June 14, 1957 he was united in marriage to Christine Foreman. To this union was born 3 sons and 3 daughters. They lived in Council Bluffs, Iowa from 1960 to 1988; Elliott, Iowa from 1988 to 1993 and then moved to Nodaway, Iowa in 1993. He served in the Army Reserves. Ron was a carpenter by trade. He enjoyed the Nodaway Corn Carnival where he was a member and had served on the board.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Christine on March 29, 1998; son, William Kammerer; grandson, Robert Glade Edie and son-in-law, Jack Henderson.
Ron is survived by sons Ronald Kammerer, Jr. of Red Oak, IA; Shawn Kammerer and friend Heather Newkirk of Villisca, IA; daughters Elizabeth Morrell and husband Mike of Elkhorn, NE; Tammy Kammerer of Nodaway, IA; Sherry Smith and husband Scott of Hudson, CO; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; brothers Terry Kammerer of Red Oak, IA and Randy Kammerer and wife Vicki of Council Bluffs, IA; sister Marlene Jones and husband Warren of Treynor, IA; other relatives and a host of friends.

DANA NEAL
Funeral services for Dana Neal 49, of Villisca, IA, will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday February 7th at the Advent Christian Church in Villisca, IA. Burial in the Villisca Cemetery. Visiting time with the family will be Monday evening from 7-8 at the Wolfe Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Villisca E.M.T.'s, Advent Christian Church or the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Dana was born November 17, 1956, in Corning, Iowa the son of Dennis Frederick Neal and Margaret Lorene (Rainey) Neal. He died suddenly Friday, February 3, 2006, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital.
Dana started his law practice in Red Oak, IA in 1993 and started serving as magistrate judge for Montgomery County soon after. He graduated from Villisca High School in 1975. He was a member of the Advent Christian Church in Villisca were he served as a deacon. Dana was co-chef for the Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner sponsored by the Advent Christian Church. He was also a member of the Montgomery County Bar Association. Dana enjoyed traveling, playing string instruments; guitar, mandolin, banjo. Dana greatly enjoyed Irish music. He was an avid reader, walker, enjoyed cooking and had a great sense of humor.
Dana is survived by his mother Lorene Neal of Villisca, IA, Aunts and Uncles: Mary Jane & Virgil Boyer of Hurst, TX, Luella Kernen of Villisca, IA, Lois Bergren of Red Oak, IA, & Bob & Evelyn Neal of Villisca, IA many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and infant brother Dennis Robert Neal.

DENNIS WAYNE CARLSON
Born in Red Oak, Iowa 8/29/1946 and Died in Elkhorn, Nebraska 2/1/2006
Dennis Carlson was born on a farm in Villisca, IA and attended elementary and high school there. He was the 4th of 5 children (Bob, Nancy, Ron and Deb) of Wayne and Mildred Carlson. In high school he was President of the FFA, President of the Student Council, and active in basketball, football, and track. The Carlson family enjoyed many fishing trips and vacations to Spicer, MN.
Denny went to Clarinda Community College where he met Connie the 1st day of English Class. They dated on and off during college and after two years of Community College he went to Central Missouri State and Graduated with a teaching degree while Connie went to Concordia College. The two married in August of 1969 and 6 months later he was drafted into the Army. Connie and Denny lived in Augusta, Georgia for several months before Denny was deployed to Posen, Korea for a year. Upon his return he continued his teaching and coaching career at Odebolt-Arthur High School, in Odebolt, IA. He taught social studies and physical education for 9 years as well as various positions coaching wrestling, football, basketball, and baseball until 1979. He was the Head Football Coach for 3 years and was named Iowa High School Football Coach of the Year in 1976 and was also the Athletic Director at O-A. He finished his Master's Degree in Administration at Northwest Missouri State University over two summers while the family lived with Connie's parents in Clarinda, IA. In 1979, he joined New York Life Insurance Company and was an agent for two years. In 1980 he was named new agent of the year. Denny went into management in 1981 and the family moved to Sioux City. In 1995, Denny was transferred to the Omaha, NE office where he was the Senior Sales Development Manager. During his career he attained his CLU and ChFC degrees, he was the Life Star Trainer of the Year in 1999 and won the Personal Mentorship Award from the American College in 2001 in addition to other various degrees and awards. The Omaha office has recently dedicated the conference training room in honor of Denny.
Connie and Denny were married for 36 ½ years and have 3 daughters. Jeree Kristi married John Menning and live in Gretna, NE with their 2 sons: Keegan 3 ½ and Tyas 15 months. Brandi Lynn married Ryan Kluender and live in Moville, IA with their sons Dallas 2 years and Drew 8 months. Jama Sue Carlson lives in Omaha, NE. Much of their time as a family was spent with the girl's various activities from dance and piano to basketball and softball. Denny took a very active roll in helping develop the Siouxland Youth Athletics Organization and all of its softball programs. He also drew up original plans for the Riverfront ball complex that was developed around 1984. He took Jeree to various pitching clinics and spent much time helping her improve her pitching to a college level and then he passed all that time and information down to Jama when it was her turn to begin pitching. He coached both Brandi and Jama's Jack Pinney and Long Lines select travel teams. When they moved to Omaha, he continued coaching Jama's Sizzle Teams. With the travel teams, the family developed many close friends and memories not to mention many van miles. As the girls grew older Connie and Denny took short trips to see family and friends and they took the family on vacations down the Niobrara, to Okoboji, and their newest favorite was Yankton.
In addition to his immediate family, he is also survived by two brothers and two sisters: Bob Carlson and Judy of Crescent, IA, Ronald Carlson and wife Evon of Red Oak,IA, Nancy Knudson and husband Lowell of Nixa, MO and Deborah Johnston and husband Forrest of Hornick, IA; mother-in-law Vera Wellhausen of Clarinda, IA, sister-in-law Lynette Palmer and husband Larrie of Shenandoah, IA and brother-in-law Keith Wellhausen and his wife Dana of Clarinda, IA as well as many nieces and nephews.
Denny was preceded in death by his parents Wayne and Mildred Carlson and father-in-law Walter Wellhausen.
Denny is probably most remembered for his kindness, compassion, generosity, coaching abilities, impeccable organization, and of course Christmas Cookies. Before he left us he made sure that there were no strings left untied. Please know that Denny was comforted by your many visits, card, calls, prayers, and e-mails. LEO RAYMOND FARLIN
Leo Raymond Farlin 65, of Emerson, IA was born November 28, 1940, in Montgomery County, Iowa, the son of Joseph Allen Farlin and Marguerite (Philpott) Farlin Smith and died Friday January 27, 2006, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE.
Leo graduated from Villisca High School in 1959. He was married to Sharon Baker on March 27, 1965, in Red Oak, IA. To this union two sons were born: Joseph and Darrell. Leo served in the Air Force from August 11, 1960 until April 28, 1964 during the Vietnam Era. He started working for C.B. & Q Railroad which later changed to Burlington Northern Railroad in 1964 and retired in 1993. He was a member of the Emerson American Legion. Leo enjoyed spending time with family, collected coins and railroad memorabilia and was very involved in genealogy.
He is survived by his wife Sharon of Emerson, sons: Joseph Farlin and wife Hana, and Darrell Farlin and one granddaughter Ema all of Emerson, IA, mother Marguerite Smith of Stanton, IA, sisters: Joyce Anson of Brea, CA, Mary Ann Cook of Nodaway, IA, Bonnie Wilson and husband Lloyd of Brookhaven, MS, Connie Arnold of Raymond, MS, brothers: Clarence Peterson and wife Evie of Villisca, IA, Claude Peterson of Stanton, IA, George Peterson and wife Ellen of Grand Prairie, TX, Earl Peterson of Seattle, WA, David Smith of Villisca, IA, brothers in law and sisters in law: Evelyn Salway and husband Bud of Villisca, IA, Willis Baker and wife Jean of Red Oak, IA and Donald and wife Donna Baker of Villisca plus many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Leo was preceded in death by his father Joseph and one brother John (Duane) Peterson.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, IA. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 7:00 -8:00. Burial will be in the Arlington Cemetery, near Villisca. A memorial is being established.
DONALD PAUL HEFFLEFINGER
Donald Paul Hefflefinger was born October 22, 1932 in Grand Junction, IA, the son of Mildred Helen (Blum) and John Lester Hefflefinger; and died January 22, 2006.
Don graduated from Villisca High School. He then attended one year at Simpson College. He was a member of the United States Army from November of 1952 until October of 1954. On October 30, 1955 he was united in marriage to Betty Marie Groff at the United Methodist Church in Corning. They were blessed with two children, Steve and Sheila.
He was a member of the Fairview United Church of Christ (a senior trustee), Corning Instruction Lodge #275, Nodaway Iroquois Lodge #590, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, Karousel Cut Ups, Holt Township Clerk, Royal Arch, and former Corning school board member.
Don loved farming and spent his life raising livestock and crops. Don loved being with his family and treasured his grandkids. Don enjoyed flying, boating, going out to eat with his friends, and attending his grandchildren's school activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Keith Hefflefinger and brother-in-law Keith Gourley.
Don is survived by his wife, Betty Hefflefinger of Corning; son, Steve Hefflefinger and wife Lori of Corning; daughter Sheila DeVore and husband Randy of Prescott; brother, LeRoy Hefflefinger and wife Edith of Perry, IA; sister, Clara Gourley of Villisca; sister-in-law Avonelle Hefflefinger of Des Moines; 4 grandchildren, Stephanie DeVore of Iowa City; Rick DeVore of Pella; Megan Hefflefinger of Corning; and Jason Hefflefinger of Corning; plus many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
CECIL MARVIN PETERSON
Funeral services for Cecil Marvin Peterson, of Villisca, IA, were held Monday, January 9, 2006, at the United Methodist Church in Villisca, with Pastor Gordon Scott officiating. Burial was in the Villisca cemetery.
Marvin, son of Cecil and Stella (Carmichael) Peterson was born March 6, 1928, on a farm northeast of Villisca, Iowa.
Marvin was united in marriage to Deloris Hendrickson, daughter of Marion and Grace (Groff) Hendrickson, on June 26, 1949, at the Nodaway Methodist Church, in a double wedding ceremony with Mary Ann (Hendrickson) and Benny Dunkin. They celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary in 2005.
Marvin and Deloris became the parents of three children; Peggy, Neal and Lori. He lived in the Villisca and Guss area all his life, graduating from Villisca High School in 1946. Marvin and Deloris lived on their farm northeast of Villisca for 55 years where they raised their three children, with the exception of two years spent in Estes Park, CO. He was employed with the Villisca Housing for twelve years.
Marvin was active in the Villisca United Methodist Church, where he was a member of many years. He held offices on the Church Board as well as being a Charter Member of the Methodist Men. He was a member of the Villisca Lions Club. Marvin has served for many years as trustee for East Township as well as serving on the ASCA Committee and past member of the Montgomery County Pork Producers. He was a 4-H Leader for several years. Marvin was named Outstanding Young Farmer of Montgomery County in 1962.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Peggy and son-in-law Dan Rapp and infant brother Carroll.
Marvin is survived by his wife Deloris Peterson of Villisca, IA, son Neal Peterson and wife Cathy of Shenandoah, IA, daughter, Lori Focht of Stanton, IA. Grandchildren: Nathan Rapp of Independence, MO, Megan Link and husband Aaron of Chicago, IL, Abby Medeiros and husband Yarden of Omaha, NE, Grant, Greg and Ally Focht of Stanton, IA, step granddaughter Amy (Rapp) Vance and husband Kip of Independence, MO, two step great grandchildren; Avery and Regan Vance of Independence, MO. Sisters: Deloris Adams and husband Darrell of Griswold, IA and Margaret Shipley and husband Joe of Essex, IA. Sisters-in-law; Mary Ann Dunkin and husband Benny and Janis Davis and husband Lowell of Fort Collins, CO, plus many nieces, nephews relatives and friends.
Marvin and Deloris enjoyed playing golf, traveling and spending time with their grandchildren. After his retirement Marvin enjoyed spending time in the coffee shop and elevator with his many friends. His outgoing personality was an inspiration to everyone he met.
Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church in Villisca.
