GLENNA MAE ROBINSON
Glenna Mae Robinson 87, of Villisca, Iowa died Tuesday, May 09, 2006, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa. She was born May 12, 1918, in Taylor County, Iowa the daughter of Henry & Stella (Welsh) Freuck.
Glenna Mae graduated from Villisca High School in 1934. Glenna married Harold Everett Robinson on November 25, 1941, in Papillion, NE to this union three children were born: Judy, Joan and Jim.
Glenna Mae taught school in Taylor County from 1936 to 1942. After teaching she became a dedicated farmwife and mother. She had enjoyed bowling, square dancing, golfing and spending time with family. Glenna Mae was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Villisca.
She is survived by her children: Judy Mikkelsen and husband Lance of Santa Fe, N.M., Joan Schrader and husband Drew of Dataw Island, S.C. and Jim Robinson and wife Donna of Villisca, IA: grandchildren, John Mikkelsen, Mark Mikkelsen, Andrew Schrader and wife Julie, Adam Schrader and wife Michelle, Jodi Robinson and Jennifer Robinson; great grandchildren Tyler Mikkelsen, Christopher Schrader, Courtney Schrader and Gavin Schrader.
Glenna Mae was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harold on December 14, 1005, sisters, Geneva Horton, Ethel Vanalstine, Faye Spencer and Fern Firkins.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2006, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, IA. Burial will be in the Villisca Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Villisca Alumni Association or the First Presbyterian Church.

MAXINE HONEYMAN
Maxine Honeyman 84, of Villisca, Iowa, died Friday, May 5th, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA.
Maxine was born March 14th, 1922 in Montgomery County, Iowa the daughter of Clyde and Florence (Johnson) Stackhouse. She married James Honeyman June 13, 1948, in Stanton, Iowa. To this union two children were born: Douglas Lee, and Susan Kay.
Maxine graduated from Villisca High School in 1939. She moved to Los Angeles, California where she worked as "Rosie the Riveter" during the early years of World War II at a North American Aviation Manufacturing plant in Englewood, California, where she helped assemble P-51 Mustang fighters as bomber aircraft. After the sudden death of her mother she returned to Villisca, and started working as a soda fountain clerk for Honeyman Drug Store. She and Jim would later own and operate the Honeyman Drug Store for over 50 years.
Maxine became a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Villisca on December 26, 1954; she was also a member of the Presbyterian Women's Circle and a fifty-year member of P.E.O. Chapter CH. She and Jim enjoyed big band music, dancing, tea dances, golfing and traveling. She was a wonderful cook and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Maxine is survived by her husband Jim of Villisca, son; Doug Honeyman and wife Diane of Seattle, WA, daughter; Susie Peterman and husband Stan of Villisca, IA; grandchildren: Cooper Honeyman of Seattle, WA, Adam Peterman of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Amber Sunderman and husband Phillip of Villisca, IA nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers; Elwin and Clifford Stackhouse.
Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2006, at the First Presbyterian Church in Villisca, with Rev. Sandra Wainwright officiating. Burial will be in the Villisca Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 7-8 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca. Memorials may be directed to the Villisca Fire and Rescue, First Presbyterian Church or the Villisca Swimming Pool.

VEVA GUSTAFSON
Veva Gustafson, age 90, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Friday, May 5, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Care Center. Veva Crain McCorkle Gustafson was born July 10, 1915 in Page County, Iowa near Braddyville, Iowa the second of three daughters of Roy and Bessie (Crain) McCorkle.
When Veva was about 1 ½ years old, the family moved to the Crain Family farm just south of Hepburn, Iowa. She attended Hepburn elementary school and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1932. Veva attended Clarinda Junior College after which she taught in rural schools in Page County for four and a half years. On November 27, 1936 Veva eloped with Raymond Gustafson and they were married in Fremont, Nebraska.
The couple lived in College Springs and later moved to Clarinda where both Ray and Veva worked at the Clarinda State Hospital. During this period of time, Ray was stricken with Polio at the age of twenty five. And overnight, Veva became the wife of an invalid not expected to live, Mother to a baby and a toddler, and sole support of the family financially and emotionally.
In 1944 the family moved to Red Oak. Veva worked at the USDA/ASCS office for about 12 years, then transferred to Houghton State Bank. She was affiliated with the bank for 24 years. She also worked at the Learning Resource Center and the Montgomery County Auditor's Office.
Veva held may positions in the Red Oak Presbyterian Church including Trustee, Session member twice, Church Treasurer for 4 years, PNC Committee, Chairman and Secretary of Dorcus circle, delivered tapes for the church for several years, and served as Church Liturgist many times. Veva was also a member of the Red Oak Chapter of the Business and Professional Women and honorary member of Rotary International.
Veva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of nearly 63 years: Raymond Gustafson on November 7, 1998; son: Mike Gustafson on September 7, 1964; and sisters: Maxine Uhlich and Mary Swanson. Survivors include her daughters: Connie Kinser and husband Jim of Winterset, Iowa; Bette Larson and husband Axel of Red Oak, Iowa; Viki Heuton of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; and Mary Younggren Longman of Orinda, CA who made her home with Gustafsons for many years; grandchildren: Darce Ovel and husband Jeff of Chatfield, MN; Joel Kinser of Des Moines, IA; Bill Kinser and wife Julie of Des Moines, IA; Molly Douglas and husband Chris of Des Moines, IA; Andy Larson of Stanton, IA; Lynn Frost and husband Greg of Platte City, MO; Amy Larson of Lincoln, NE; Susan Fuhrman and husband Ken of Bronson, KS; Sandra Mercer and husband Rex of Columbus, KS; Britta Hansen and husband Rob of Des Moines, IA; Kale Heuton and wife Shelly of Altoona, IA; and Cole Heuton of Pleasant Hill, IA; 17 great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at the Red Oak, Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dee Jay Reiff officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Monday, May 8, 2006 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Red Oak Presbyterian Church.
Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

ELIZABETH (Ialeen) FRESHOUR
Elizabeth (Ialeen) Freshour 82, of Villisca, Iowa died Friday, May 5, 2006 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA. Ialeen was born February 22, 1924, in Carbon, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Lucy Luvida (Rodman) McKee.
Ialeen married Hollis Garthe Freshour January 24, 1946, in Hiawatha, Kansas. To this union six children were born; Connie, Marjorie, Donna, Rita, Hollis Jr. and Linda Sue.
Ialeen was a member of the Advent Christian Church and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary in Villisca. She enjoyed spending time outdoors; fishing and camping. She liked to travel and took several trips with her sister Marjorie. Ialeen crocheted, spent time reading and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She liked spending time with family and going to family reunions.
She is survived by her daughters: Connie Houser of Maple Valley, WA; Marjorie Long of Lenox, IA; Donna Baker and husband Donald of Villisca, IA and Rita Booher of Shenandoah, IA. Twelve grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren. Sisters: Marjorie Miller of Knoxville, IA and Diane Dock and husband Tony of Jordan, MN, one brother Bob Mckee of Omaha, NE and one sister in law Nola Comstock of Omaha, NE.
Ialeen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Hollis on July 7, 1979, son Hollis Jr. May 7, 2000, infant daughter Linda Sue, great granddaughter Alexandria Howard, brothers: Willard and Byron McKee and sister in law Marvel McKee.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2006 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, IA. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Quincy, IA. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca. Memorials may be directed to the Villisca Fire and Rescue or the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary.

RICHARD C. BECKETT
Richard Calvin Beckett, 80, of Villisca, died July 13, 2006 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA.
Richard C., son of Grace Pearl Ginn and George Albert Beckett, was born on September 24, 1925 in Gooding, Idaho.
The family returned to Iowa in 1928 and settled near Gravity, Iowa. Richard attended and graduated from Gravity High School. He served in the US Army during WWII as a machine gunner 1st class. In 1947 he was married to Marjorie Clark, to this union two sons were born, Gregory James and Jeffery Allen. After the war he worked for Stockstill Phillip 66 in Shenandoah, Iowa. Dick and Marge moved to Villisca after two years and he began to work at the Farmers Coop. Dick later owned and operated Beckett Oil Co. and station. After retiring from the station, Dick kept busy by working for the city of Villisca until the time of his death.
Survivors include his wife Marjorie, sons Greg and wife Brenda, and Jeff of Council Bluffs, Iowa, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Grace; sisters, Martha Mendenhall and Dorothy Walker; brothers, Robert and George Jr. Beckett.
Dick will always be remembered by his Tootsie Pops and the DX slogan ' known by the customers we keep'...
Graveside services were held Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at Villisca Cemetery with Rev. Gordon Scott and Rev. Jo Anne Johnson officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Villisca city park playground fund. Eickemeyer Funeral Chapel of Clarinda was in charge of arrangements.

PHYLLIS MATILDA ANDERSON
Funeral services for Phyllis M. Anderson, age 78, of Red Oak, Iowa, were held on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral home. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, with Pastor Ron Fichter officiating.
Phyllis Matilda Anderson, the daughter of Clair and Ruth (Bishop) Aukland, was born September 27, 1927, at Silver City, Iowa.
Phyllis was raised southeast of Henderson, Iowa. She graduated from Henderson High School in l946, where she played basketball. Phyllis was united in marriage to Robert E. Anderson on September 24, 1947, at the Little Brown Church in the Vail at Nashua, Iowa. They made their home on a farm north of Stanton in l950. After Robert's death in 1969, Phyllis continued to live on the farm until she moved into Red Oak in l973. At different times in her life, Phyllis worked at Thos. D. Murphy Calendar Company, Red Oak; Egg Plant in Malvern; Union Carbide Battery Company, Red Oak for 29 years and as a cook for the Red Oak School District. Phyllis enjoyed sewing, playing cards and puzzles. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Eagles Lodge Auxiliary both of Red Oak.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert on November 16, 1969 and a son Danny.
Phyllis is survived by a son, Allan Anderson and wife Janette of rural Stanton, Iowa; two daughters, Judy Fichter and husband Ron of Clarksville, Tennessee and Jacquie Larson of Yukon, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren, Zackery Anderson and wife Misty, Karey Anderson, Robbe Morris and wife Melisa, Matthew Larson and wife Lynn, Jeffrey D. Fichter and wife Jeanette, and Seth Fichter and wife Jennifer; 6 great-grandchildren, a brother, Thomas Aukland of Omaha, Nebraska, a brother-in-law Harold Anderson of Stanton, Iowa, a sister-in-law Fern Aukland of Red Oak, Iowa, other relatives and a host of friends.
Memorials to Tabor Lutheran Church or Red Oak Fire and Rescue. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

MARTHA MENDENHALL
Graveside memorial committal services for Martha Mendenhall, age 92 of Bedford who died Friday, June 9, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Home in Villisca were held Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford. Memorials can be given in her name. Please leave a message of tribute to the Mendenhall family on our web page, www.ritchiefuneralhome.com under Obituaries. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford.
Martha Ellen (Beckett) Mendenhall was born March 29, 1914, in Gooding, Idaho the daughter of George Beckett and Grace (Ginn) Beckett. The family returned to Iowa in 1928 and settled near Gravity. She grew up attending school in Bedford, because her brother went to school there. However, graduated in 1932 from the Clarinda High School. After graduation she worked in Bedford at the Hamburger Inn. In 1938, she was united in marriage to Robert Anderson. Bob was in the service and they moved to several different Army bases. After World War II they returned to Bedford where Bob worked for the lumber yard and Martha worked for 25 years in the office on Main Street of Iowa Power. In 1963, Bob passed away and Martha continued working in Bedford. In 1968, she was united in marriage to S.K. “Kelite” Mendenhall who owned the Taylor County Motor Ford Garage. Upon their marriage, Martha quit working outside the home. She and Kelite truly enjoyed their nightly trips to check out the farm and cattle operation. Martha enjoyed knitting, sewing, reading and playing bridge. She was her ‘own person’, always pretty ‘spunky’! She was known for doing things her way! The true passion in Martha life was her sister Dorothy. Over the years the two of them were so close, that they were truly inseparable.
Left to cherish Martha’s memory are her brother Richard Beckett and wife Marge of Villisca; two step-daughters, Kae Eberle of Bedford; and Jean Killam and husband Herbert of Bedford; three nephews Gary Beckett of Des Moines; Greg Beckett and wife Brenda Lee of Villisca; and Jeff Beckett of Council Bluffs; a niece Barbara Beckett-Collier of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a step-granddaughter Victoria Guilliatt and husband Dick of Bedford and their children Stefanie and Timothy; and a sister-in-law Marion Anderson of North Platte, Nebraska; along with many friends.
Preceding Martha in death were parents George and Grace Beckett; her first husband Robert Anderson; her second husband Kelite Mendenhall; two brothers, George Jr. and Robert Beckett; and a dear sister, Dorothy Walker.
May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn Martha’s passing.
