Hogberg, age 74, of Red Oak, Iowa, were held on Saturday, July 15, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stanton, Iowa, with Pastor Paul Warder, officiating. Burial was in Mission Covenant Cemetery in Stanton. Doris Pauline Hogberg, the daughter of Joseph and Edith (Bradley) Golay, was born August 29, 1931, at Pickering, Missouri. Doris was raised near Pickering, Missouri. Later, the family moved to Clarinda, Iowa, where Doris graduated from high school. She received her teachers training and certificate at Clarinda College. After college, Doris taught 3rd grade in Stanton for a total of 5 years. She was united in marriage to Melvin Hogberg on June 6, 1954, in Stanton, Iowa. They made their home on their farm south of Red Oak. She took pride in her family and working on their farm. Doris loved her grandchildren and spending time with them. She also enjoyed reading and her garden. Doris was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church and Covenant Women in Stanton, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters and 4 brothers. Doris is survived by her husband, Melvin Hogberg of Red Oak, Iowa; 3 sons, Greg Hogberg and wife Becky of Red Oak, Iowa, Doug Hogberg and wife Cheryl of Stanton, Iowa and Gary Hogberg of Elkhorn, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, Nicholas, Molly, Alyssa, Derick, Kelsey and Kayla; a sister, Mrs. Alice Garvin of Des Moines, Iowa, a brother, George Golay of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, other relatives and host of friends. A memorial is being established in her name. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. JEAN ROSALIE MILLER Jean Rosalie Miller, 78, of Wimberley, Texas, passed away Sunday June 11. Jean was born November 25, 1927 on a farm north of Villisca, near Siola, to Raymond C. and Estella B. Danielson Retland. She graduated salutatorian from Villisca High School in 1945. She taught country school in the Villisca area for two years. On December 21, 1948, she married William E. (Bill) Miller at the Villisca Methodist Church. The couple resided in Omaha, Nebraska, for the next fifty years before relocating to Wimberley, Texas. While in Omaha, Jean was a charter member of Rockbrook United Methodist Church and an active member of Chapter GB of the P.E.O. sisterhood. While living in Wimberley, Jean was a member of Chapel of the Hills Church and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She was also active in the Wimberley Womens Club, and she was a charter member of Chapter IF of P.E.O. After Bill’s retirement, the couple spent their summers on Lake Belle Taine near Nevis, Minnesota. Jean is survived by her husband Bill; son Kent Miller of Dallas, Texas; daughter Kathy Rusch of Muscatine, Iowa; granddaughters Gretchen Rusch of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Sarah Moore of Iowa City, Iowa; sister Joyce Minnig of Omaha, Nebraska, sister-in-law JoAnn Miller of Villisca, Iowa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be held on Thursday June 15 in Wimberley, Texas with burial at Strand, Iowa on Monday June 19. A visitation time with the family will be held on Sunday June 18, 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca. Memorials may be directed to the Methodist Church, in Villisca MARY ANN YEDLIK Mary Ann Yedlik, 58, of 3608 Stoneview Circle SW, died Monday June 5, 2006 in her home. Family greeted friends on Thursday from 4:00-7:30 p.m. at Turners West Funeral Home. Family will have private services and inturnment. Survivors include her husband, Joseph W. Yedlik, her children, Andy Yedlik (Julie) of Waukee, Iowa, and Katy Svihra (Matthew) of Yorkville, Illinois. Her parents preceded her in death. Mary Ann was born December 2, 1947 in Vinton, the daughter of William and Mildred Bogue Stahr. She married Joseph W. Yedlik on June 27, 1970 in Vinton, Iowa. Mary Ann was a Media Specialist for Wilson Middle School. She graduated from the Iowa State University in Ames with a BA degree and a Masters degree from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. She was a member of United Parish Church of Coggon where she was very active. Mary Ann was always helping others. She often bought books for children to enhance their learning and clothes for the needy. In her spare time she enjoyed swimming, ceramics, traveling, knitting Christmas stockings, artwork, and stained glass. A memorial fund has been established by the family in Mary Ann name to help promote childhood reading. WILLIAM A. FISHER Funeral services for William A. Fisher, age 73, were held in Show Low, AZ, his home for the past several years. Bill died May 12, 2006 after losing a battle with cancer. He was born September 7, 1932 in Villisca, Iowa to Fen and Hazel (Winters) Fisher. He was the youngest of their four children with older brothers Ed and Tom and sister Marjorie. Bill attended grade school at the old Lincoln Building and graduated from Villisca High School in 1950, lettering in basketball. While working several jobs, he took college courses at Clarinda Junior College and at Tarkio, MO. He served in the army during the Korean War and was stationed at Fairbanks, AK. Upon returning, he attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, graduating with a four-year degree in Business and Accounting. He immediately went to work for the Western Electric Company as an accountant and auditor at their new plant in Omaha. After several years, he was transferred to their head office in New York City. After about 8 years there, he was transferred to their new plant near Denver, CO. from which he retired. Bill is survived by his wife, Helga, his daughter, Rochelle and his grandson, Nathan of Denver, his sister Marjorie and husband Marvin Coon of Albuquerque, his oldest brother Tom of Omaha, and several nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Edward and his wife Helen, of Santa Cruz, CA. and his sister-in-law Jean (Gray) Fisher of Omaha. LUCILE M. JOHNSON Lucile M. Johnson, age 88 of Nyman, IA Lucile Malinda Johnson, the daughter of Otto and Lena (Wehmiller) Hartstack, was born June 16, 1917 on her family's farm in Douglas township of Page County, IA. She died on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, IA at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 8 days. Lucile was baptized into membership at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Clarinda on July 1, 1917. She attended Woodlawn School, then Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School. She was confirmed March 29, 1931. She continued her education at Clarinda High School. Lucile married Lehmann Theodore Johnson on February 27, 1938, rural Clarinda, IA. They made their home on the Lehmann's family farm in Fremont Township of Page County and there they lived for the rest of their lives. Lucile joined Lehmann as a member of Fremont Lutheran Church at Nyman. She served in the church as a Sunday School teacher, church council member and held several offices in the women's organization. Lucile devoted much of her life to being a full time wife and mother. She always enjoyed gardening, yard work and tending flower beds, of which she had many. She kept a meticulous and orderly home. Cooking meals, baking rye bread, cookies and other family favorites filled many hours. Pies with flakey crusts were her specialty. After the children were grown, Lucile went to work at the Red Oak "Sew & Sew" fabric shop for 5 years. She then worked for 2 years at Kolterman's Ben Franklin and 15 years at Place's Department Store. She was the department manager of the fabric department, using her excellent sewing skills to assist and advise customers. She retired on January 6, 1992, but continued to sew for herself and others. Lucile was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lehmann on January 18, 2001, brother Lloyd Hartstack, all her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Lucile is survived by her son, Roger T. Johnson and wife Marian of Shenandoah, IA; her daughter, Barbara K. Johnson and husband Stanley of Bethesda, IA; Roger's family: Penny Johnson and friend Brice Erickson of rural Clarinda, IA, Kim Moyer and husband Kurt, their children, Trevor & Jestene of Montezuma, IA, Aaron T. Johnson and wife Christi, their children, Brooklyn & Abigail, step-children, Tyler, Dakota and Hunter McMann of rural Red Oak, IA; Barbara's family; Clarisa Mascher and husband Bill, their children, Travis and Ransom of rural Nemaha, IA. Angela Johnson and fiancé Michael Wityk, and daughter Hailey of rural Essex, IA, Laura Kirchert and husband Brian of Essex, IA; a brother, Leroy Hartstack of Clarinda, IA, other relatives and a host of friends. ANGELINE ERMA GAUNT Funeral services for Angeline Gaunt, age 78, of Villisca, Iowa, formerly of Nodaway and Griswold areas, were held on Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. at the Central Church of Christ in Griswold, Iowa. Chris Hall and Tony Kafka officiated the service. Burial was in the Nodaway Cemetery. Angeline Erma Osborn, was born at Tipton, IA, on January 29, 1928, the daughter of Lawrence E. and Myra Ada (Meixner) Osborne. The family moved to the Atlantic, IA, area and she attended school in Atlantic. On August 17, 1945, she married Jack Eugene Gaunt, in Atlantic. She first worked at the Whitney Hotel, in Atlantic, as a waitress and laundry person. They moved to Diagonal, IA, and later moved to Nodaway. While living in Nodaway, Angeline worked as a CNA at the Corning Nursing and Rehab Center. She later took care of people in their homes, working as a home care aid. She moved to Griswold in 1991, where she worked beside her daughter, Patty, at the Chuckwagon Café and later at Eckles Grocery until her illness left her unable to work. Angeline was active in the Pony Express Riders of Iowa. Survivors include, her children Sharon Hoyt and husband, Robert, of Yorktown, IA; Karen Pafford and husband, Robert, of Nodaway; Gary Gaunt and friend, Becky Myers, of Clarinda, IA; Larry Gaunt and wife, Kathy, of Villisca, IA; and Patty Eckles, and husband Doug, of Griswold; 27 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers, Jonny Osborn and wife, Laura, of Tingley, IA; and Leslie "Lucky" Osborn and wife Linda, of Wiota, IA; her sister, Florence Biship and husband, Lawrence, of Tingley. Preceding Angeline in death were her parents, husband, Jack in 1984, her granddaughters, Angela and Susan Hartley, her grandsons, Casey Gaunt and Nathan Hunter; two brothers, one in infancy and Walter Osborn; and sister, Mary Krueger. REVEREND WILLIAM O. NILES Memorial services for William Oliver Niles were held on May 6, 2006, at the First Presbyterian Church in Early, Iowa. Internment was in Fonda, Iowa. William was born June 11, 1918, in Burley, Idaho, the son of William George Niles and Isabella Carlotta Thomas Niles. William attended school in Idaho and graduated from the University of Dubuque Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa, in 1954. William was married to Evelyn, for 33 years. He married Irene McPherson, in Kaitaia, New Zealand, on November 28, 1979. He was ordained to the Presbyterian Ministry of Word and Sacrament, in 1954. Bill faithfully served churches in many places, including Postville, IA; Nodaway, IA; Gruver, IA; Maynard, IA; Fonda, IA; Albion, IL; and Early, IA. He also served twice as a Presbyterian Exchange minister in New Zealand. He was preceded I death by his parents and his wife, Evelyn. He leaves to mourn his passing; wife, Irene; nine children and their families, his step-daughter and two adopted daughters and their families and many church members and friends.
