JOHN L. NEWBERG
John L. Newberg, 56, of Fulton, Illinois, died Friday May 7, 2004, at his home.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 am Wednesday May 12, 2004 at the First Congregational Church, Clinton with Rev. Laura Renault officiating. Burial will be in the Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, Illinois. Serving as pallbearers will be Curt Smith, Denny Countryman, Jim Fish, Dick Kline, Gayle Heard, and Howard Neese. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig-Dennis A. Lemke Funeral Homes and Crematory.
John Laurence Newberg was born on January 18, 1948 in Clarinda, Iowa, the son of Cecil and Dorothy (Sprague) Newberg. He married Vickie Buckneberg on August 18, 1968 in Villisca, Iowa; she died January 13, 2001.
He was a 1966 graduate of Villisca High School- Villisca, Iowa.
He was employed at Fullerton Building Center from June 1966 until he retired as store manager in February 2003.
He was a member of First Congregational Church.
He is survived by one daughter: Molly and her husband Bernie Zajicek of Clinton, Iowa; one son: Matt Newberg of Fernandina Beach, Florida; two granddaughters: Katelyn and Carrie Zajicek; two sisters: Janice Newberg of Villisca, Iowa and Linda and her husband Tom Nisely of Glenwood, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
The family requests that memorials be made to the family to be distributed to various charities.

MARY ANN MACE
Graveside memorial services for Mary Ann Mae and Jack Mace, Sr., of Villisca, were held Monday, May 3, 2004, at the Villisca Cemetery.
Mary Ann Mace was born May 11, 1932, in Aberdeen, SD, the daughter of Albert and Rose (Meirs) Engel. She died suddenly at her home in Villisca on Monday, April 26, 2004.
Mary Anne married Jack Edward Mace, Sr., on May 29, 1959, in Tacoma, WA. Jack preceded her in death on May 29, 2003. She graduated from Yakima, WA. She had worked at the State Board of Health in Delaware as a lab technician for 30 years, retiring in 1990. She and Jack moved from Delaware to Villisca in 1991. After moving to Villisca, Mary Ann worked for the Stanton Care Center in the housekeeping department for over a year. Mary Ann was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Villisca and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Evie Peterson and husband Clarence of Villisca; sons Kenneth Mace of Sumner, WA, Jack Mace, Jr., and fiancé Donette Briggs of Red Oak, IA, Charles Mace of Villisca, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Also one brother, Richard Engel and wife Carol of Carrington, ND, and one sister, Anita Banning and husband David of Libby, MT. Wolfe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

OTIS AUTEN
Funeral services for Otis Auten of Bethesda, IA, were held April 30, 2004 at the Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda, IA, with Rev. Eric Kutzli officiating. Burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery.
Otis Lee Auten was born June 26, 1923, at Sheridan, MO, to John Auten and Mildred (Brogan) Auten. He died April 27, 2004, at Midlands Community Hospital, Papillion, NE.
Otis was united in marriage December 11, 1945, to Wilma Jean Rowe at Troy, KS. Otis was a lifelong farmer in the Bethesda area. He also raised and showed horses.
Preceding Otis in death were his parents; daughter, Barbara (1978); brother, Howard Auten; sisters, Ethel Riley, and Pauline Hill.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Auten of Stanton; sons, Russell Auten of Topeka, KS, Dewain Auten and wife Lynne of Omaha, NE, Larry Auten and wife Vickie of Clarinda, Rick Auten and wife Mary Jane of Red Oak; daughters, Mary Richardson and husband Bill of Yorktown and Linda Stouder and husband Larry of Malvern; 16 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sisters Gladys Craig of Dallas, TX and Doris Chapman of Liberty, MO; brother, Dean Auten of Brandon, FL.
Memorials may be directed to the Clarinda Rescue or Clarinda Fire Department. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAM W. GRANT
Funeral services for William W. (Bill) Grant of Clarinda, IA, were held April 24, 2004, at the Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda with the Rev. Walden Paige officiating. Burial was in the Clarinda Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 98 and V.F.W. Post 9230.
William Woodyard Grant was born October 29, 1924, in St. Joseph, MO, to Rufus Paul and Maybel (Woodyard) Grant. He died April 21, 2004, at his home in Clarinda.
Bill graduated from Lafayette High School in St. Joseph in 1942. He served in the United States Army during WWII with the Army War Claims war team in England and France. He was awarded the Victory Ribbon, the American Theatre Ribbon, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Theatre Ribbon with two bronze stars. He was united in marriage on August 8, 1948, to Dorothea Louise Lincoln at Bedford, IA. They celebrated 55 years of marriage. Bill graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 1949 and received his CPA in 1953. After moving to Clarinda in 1953, he opened the first CPA office there. Bill was a CPA/Comptroller for Lisle Corporation from 1959 until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Clarinda; the Nodaway Lodge #140 AF & AM; Kiwanis; Chamber of Commerce and American Legion.
Preceding him in death were his parents, brother James Ralph Grant, and grandson Mark M. Nikseresht.
Survivors include wife Dorothea Grand of Clarinda; daughter Martha Gail Nikseresht and husband Mo of Glenwood; daughter Nancy Kay Grant of Clarinda; son William Lincoln Grant and wife Maria of Jefferson City, MO; daughter Elaine Beth Farwell and husband Randy of Coin; grandchildren Grant, Mariya and Monica Nikseresht, Stephanie and Michelle Grant, Ross and Kayla Farwell; and sister Marilyn Frances Reno and husband Raymond of Sedalia, MO.

ARTIE MAE MC CONNELL
Funeral services for Artie Mae McConnell were held April 28 in Kingsport, TN, with burial in the Kingsport Cemetery. Artie Mae McConnell died April 26, 2004, in Kingsport, TN.
She was born in Gate City, VA, on May 7, 1910, to Sylvester and Eliza (Henry) Dean. She married Raymond McConnell on February 14, 1949, and to this union two children were born.
The couple had lived in Estherville and Villisca before moving to Kingsport. Artie taught in the Villisca Public Schools and was a former member of the Presbyterian Church. They moved from Villisca to Kingsport and resided in their own home until Raymond's health forced them to move to a care center in Kingsport.
Artie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond on May 18, 2003, and a daughter-in-law, Julie McConnell.
She is survived by daughter Patty and husband Dan Hunsberger of Lake Villa, IL, and son Dennis and friend Audrey of Crete, NE. Four grandchildren and sister-in-law Marveline McConnell of Villisca.

KIMBERLEY ANN GALE
Funeral services for Kimberley Ann Gale of Villisca, IA, will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2004, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca, with burial in the Arlington Cemetery, near Villisca, IA. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 7 to 8.
A memorial is being established.
Kimberley Ann Gale, died Tuesday, April 20, 2004 in her home in Villisca, Iowa.
Kimberley was born January 4, 1961, in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Edward Eugene Ewing and Juanita June (Raines) Dunlap.
She married David Allen Gale on October 20, 2001 in Villisca, Iowa. Kimberley had been a homemaker and a cook at the Circle J Cafe for several years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting, cross-stitch, doing puzzles, camping, fishing and gardening.
Kimberley is survived by her husband David of Villisca, daughter Tina Fort and husband Michael of Red Oak, Iowa, grandchildren: Jasmine and Gabriel. One brother: Raymond Buick of Villisca, IA and one sister Karen Walker & husband Leonard of McLoud, OK.
She was preceded in death by her mother.

REVA CHARLENE FOOCE
Reva Fooce of Bruces Crossing, Michigan formerly of Villisca, Iowa passed away Wed. April 14, 2004 at her home after a short battle with cancer.
Reva was born at a lumber camp near Big Bay Michigan on Aug. 23, 1939 daughter of Waynard & Wilma (Walker) Perry. She attended school in Ohio & Kentucky. On Feb. 20, 1959 she married Jessie (Dave) Fooce in London, Ohio. To this union 3 sons were born. Reva was a homemaker & active in helping Dave operate their dairy farm for the past 30 years.
Reva was preceeded in death by her father, an infant sister Lily Faye, & brother-in-law Lee Conley.
Reva is survived by her husband of 45 years. Sons David, Paulding, MI, John (Karen), L'anse, MI, & Jim (Barb) Bruces Crossing, MI. Five grandchildren, Wendy, Jessica, Cassandra, Deanna, & Samantha all of Michigan. Her mother, Wilma Perry of Villisca, Iowa. Three brothers, Elza (Carol) Perry, Newark, Ohio, Russ (Marty) Perry, Tulsa, OK, Sam (Lou) Perry, Tulsa, OK. Six sisters Laura (Carl) Hanners, St. Pete, FL., Pauline Conley, Columbus, Oh., Barb (Floyd) McNichols, Eagle Mills, OH., Mary (Russ) Currin, Red Oak, IA, Deb Mattson, Villisca, IA, Jann (Rusty) Elwood, Villisca, IA. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, & a host of friends.
