EDNA LOUISE SMITH
Funeral services for Edna Louise Smith of Villisca, IA, were held on Thursday, April 8, 2004, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca. Burial will be held at a later date in the Mamre Cemetery in Stanton.
Enda Louise Smith was born December 13, 1916, in Montgomery County, IA, the daughter of Fank Balaam Baker and Vina Frances (Bell) Barker. She died in her home in Villisca on Saturday, April 3, 2004.
Edna graduated in 1934 from the Anacortes High School in Anacortes, WA. She later moved to Essex and the Stanton area until she moved to Villisca in 1993. Edna married Phillip G.O. Smith in February 1939; he preceded her in death on November 30, 1973. Edna was a member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, husband Philip and a brother Delmar Eugene Baker.
She is survived by her children Frances Hemphill of Riverside, CA; Gerald Smith of Villisca; Robert Smith and wife Esther of Grants Pass, OR; James Smith of Villisca; and Debra Haley and husband Calvin of Villisca, IA. Also seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister Margaret Rice of Anacortes, WA; a brother Fred Danzingburg and wife Pat of Anacortes, WA; and a brother-in-law Veryln Okerlund of Seattle, WA.
Memorials may be directed to the Montgomery County Relay for Life.
PAUL F. LEHMAN
Funeral services for Paul F. Lehman of Griswold, IA, will be held Thursday, April 15, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold, with the Rev. Wm. McGhghy officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Township Cemetery in Griswold.
Paul F. Lehman was born on July 24, 1931, at Guss, IA, the son of Lawrence and Mae (Acton) Lehman. He died Monday, April 12, 2004, at the Mongtomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak.
Paul graduated from the Nodaway High School and went to Clarinda Junior College and also attended college at Maryville, MO. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was stationed in Okinawa. On June 11, 1952, he married Maxine Isabel Bending at Bentonville, AR. They moved to Griswold in 1990, and prior to that they lived in Emerson for 26 years. During his lifetime, he worked for the Burlington-Northern Railroad as a main and branch lineman and as a supervisor.
Paul was preceded in death by his wife in 1997.
He is survived by his children Marcia Lehman of Griswold; Paul Lehman and wife Carolyn of Atlantic; Hank Lehman and wife Mary and their children Kathi, Krystal and Joshua of Shenandoah; and Valjean Lehman of Griswold.
MARJORIE HELEN MC NERNEY
Funeral services for Marjorie Helen McNerney were held April 5, 2004, at the United Church of Christ in Atlantic, IA, with the Rev. Sue Hyndman officiating. Burial was at the Clarinda Cemetery in Clarinda, IA.
Majorie Helen (Beavers) Howard-McNerney was born June 24, 1916 in Villisca, IA, to Joseph Elvin and Mabel Clare (Higgins) Beavers. She died March 31, 2004, at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, NE, after a brief illness.
Marjorie was the third of five girls who grew up on a farm near Villisca. She attended country school and graduated from Villisca High School in 1933. Upon graduation, Marjorie worked various jobs to help her family during the depression years. She married Burnal Forest Howard on August 29, 1937, in Clarinda. To this union three children were born: Lonnie, Linnea and Lorain. The family moved to Atlantic in 1944. Burnal was paralyzed in a car accident in 1956, at which time Marjorie, working full time at the Federal Land Bank, kept the family mechanics shop open and took care of Burnal at home. Burnal died on June 10, 1961, and in September, she moved to Harlan with the Federal Land Bank. She married John McNerney on September 18, 1971. She retired from the bank in 1982.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Burnal, her husband John, one daughter Lorain (Howard) Smith, one sister Leta Greenfield, and two brothers-in-law Clifford Stackhouse and Wayne Roberts.
Marjorie is survived by a son, Lonnie Howard of Los Angeles, CA; a daughter Linnea Murphy and husband Mike of Lewis; and a son-in-law Larry Smith of Anita; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Esther Roberts of Milwaukee, OR; Irene Stackhouse of Clarinda; and Ardith (Neal) Earl of Rosemund, CA; a brother-in-law Paul Greenfield of Villisca; many nieces and nephews; various cousins and friends.

VINCENT GOOD
Vincent Good, age 89, of Red Oak, Iowa passed away Friday, April 9, 2004 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak after an extended illness.
Vincent Ross Good was born December 3, 1914 in Red Oak, Iowa the son of James Vincent and Donna Marie (Heberlee) Good.
He was raised in the Stennett area graduating from the Stennett High School. Vince was united in marriage to Jean Evans on April 20, 1936 in Yorktown, Iowa. They spent their married life on farms in the Stennett and Elliott areas moving into Red Oak in 1968. Vince was a member of the Stratton United Methodist Church and later the First United Methodist Church in Red Oak. He was a former member of the Wales-Lincoln School Board. Vince enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trips to Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother: Wayne; infant sister: Myrna; brother: Donald; wife Jean Good on March 19, 2002; and daughter-in-law: Nina Good on September 17, 1997.
Survivors include two sons: Dennis Good and his wife JoAnn of Elliott, Iowa; James Good and his wife Jody of Red Oak, Iowa; daughter: Sharon Long of Omaha, Nebraska; 6 grandchildren: Kim Anderson and husband Mike of Atlantic, Iowa; Cheri Pullman and husband Keith of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Susan Good of Elliott, Iowa; Rob Long and wife Gina of Creston, Iowa; Kelly Groskurth and husband Kevin of Treynor, Iowa; and Jeremy Good and wife Shari of Griswold, Iowa; 11 great grandchildren: Allyson Anderson; Sydney, Keely, and Beau Pullman; Tyler, Cody, and Samantha Long; Regina Groskurth; Nicholas, Gavin, and Preston Good; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10 AM Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Nancy Schultz officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 PM Monday, April 12, 2004 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel.

MAX E. ROBERTS
Funeral services for Max Eugene Roberts of Villisca were held Saturday, March 13, 2004, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca with the Pastor Chuck Schwartz officiating. Burial was in the Arlington Cemetery.
Max was born December 16, 1925, on the family farm near Villisca to Frank Albert and Elnora Mae (Thompson) Roberts. He died March 10, 2004, at the Red Oak Good Samaritan Center.
Max attended Villisca and Red Oak schools, graduating from Red Oak High School in 1943. He was united in marriage to Bette Wohlenhaus on February 4, 1945, in Villisca. Max served in the Army Air Force during WWII. He had farmed north of Villisca all of his life and was a 4-H leader, in FFA, a charter member of the Polypay Sheep Association, and a member of the Untied Methodist Church in Villisca. Max was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Bette Roberts of Villisca; children, Mary Schwartz and her husband Chuck of Albany, NY, David Roberts of Cameron, MO, Garry Roberts and his wife Pamela of Keota, Marsha Moestchen and her husband Ernie of Villisca and Kay Richardson and her husband Dale of Marysville, KS; nineteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; sisters Genevieve Windhorst of Clarinda and Ruthella Derry of Lincoln, NE; brother-in-law William Wohlenhaus and his wife Barbara of Prescott, AZ.

CAROLYN T. WISE
Funeral services for Carolyn T. Wise of Clearfield, PA, will be held Saturday, March 20, 2004, at the West Side United Methodist Church in Clearfield, PA.
Carolyn was born February 26, 1929, in Villisca, IA, the daughter of Henry F. and Ethelda (Armstrong) Tyler. She died March 13, 2004, at the Ridgeview Elder Care Rehabilitation Center in Curwensville, PA.
Carolyn was a co-owner of the former F.W. Wise Gas Company, Inc., in Clearfield, PA, until her retirement in 1988. She graduated from Iowa State University in Ames and did post-graduate work at Penn State University. She was director of and started the school lunch program in Lawrence Township in 1953 and Clearfield Area Schools in 1954. She also taught nutrition at the Clearfield Hospital School of Nursing. Carolyn was united in marriage to Glen E. Wise on October 16, 1954 in Villisca. Carolyn was a member of the West Side United Methodist Church. She served on the Clearfield PA YMCA Board of Directors as secretary for 13 years, was past president of the Clearfield Junior Women's Club and the Newcomers Club and was active in the Boy Scouts of America and the Girl Scouts.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Geraldine Francis and brother-in-law Norton Francis, a brother Kenneth Tyler and a sister-in-law Marion Tyler.
She is survived by her husband; daughter Lynn Oliver and husband Wesley of Rowayton, CT; two sons Dennis Wise and wife Kathy of Plano, TX, and Gregg Wise and his wife Deborah of Plano, TX; six grandchildren; two brothers Robert Tyler of Shenandoah, IA, and Dr. Donald Tyler and wife Jean of Grand Junction, CO; a sister Marilyn Brinkman of Tyler, TX; a sister-in-law Margaret Tyler of Tyler, TX; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Josephine Ann Ankeny
Mass of Christian Burial services for Josephine Ann Ankeny of Villisca, IA, were held March 29, 2004 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Villisca. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery.
Josephine Ann Ankeny was born February 17, 1908, in Jackson, NE, the daughter of James and Emma (Sundt) Kennelly and died March 25, 2004, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, IA.
Josephine graduated from the St. Catherine's Academy in Jackson, NE, in 1926. Following graduation she taught in a country school until 1930 when she married Darwin Ankeny. They were married for 56 years before his death in 1986. Josephine was the oldest member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Villisca, and a member of the Altar Society. She had led rosary every Sunday before Mass for 27 years. Josephine and Ludwina Gage used to take care of the church, doing the laundry and cleaning.
Josephine saw Pope John Paul II in Des Moines in 1979.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Darwin, sister Margaret Aylward and brothers Dutch and Jim Kennelly.
Josephine is survived by her daughters Betty Liston and husband Jim of Council Bluffs, IA, and Bonnie Ocheltree of Williamsburg, IA. Also eleven grandchildren, thirty three great grandchildren and several nieces.
