GOLDIE JEANNETTE PADGITT
Goldie Jeannette Padgitt of Beaconsfield, Iowa died December 3, 1999 at the age of 85 years at the Vista Gardens Care Center, Red Oak, Iowa.
Goldie was born July 23, 1914 at Percival, Iowa, the daughter of Cora and Loman Foster . She graduated from the Percival, Iowa high school in 1931. Goldie was united in marriage to George Claiborne Padgitt of Thurman, Iowa in March of 1932. To this union one daughter, Patricia Jeannette, was born. Goldie and Claiborne made their home for seven years after their marriage at Thurman and McPaul, Iowa in Freemont county. In the spring of 1940, they purchased their farm three and one half miles southwest of Beaconsfield, Iowa where they were to both live the rest of their lives.
Over the years, Goldie spent her life as a homemaker and farmer's wife. She particularly enjoyed the outdoors--with gardening, cooking and baking being her favorite pastimes--until suffering a severe stroke in 1984.
Goldie was preceded in death by her husband Claiborne in July of 1973; her parents, Cora and Loman Foster ; two sisters, Daisy and Maxine; and all five brothers, George, Melvin, Hubert, Everett and Max Foster .
Survivors include one daughter Patricia of Omaha, Nebraska and one sister Fern Trulove of Willington, Utah, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held at the Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa on Monday, December 6, 1999 with Rev. Michael Druhl officiating. Nancy Sackett, organist, and Judy Cunning, soloist, provided music. Casketbearers were Jim Smith, Boyd Taggart, Glen Carmen, Dave Mathany, Jack Padgitt and Dale Lee Carmen.
Interment was in the Oliver Cemetery, Kellerton, Iowa.
MARY JEAN SKARDA
Mary Jean Breckenridge, youngest daughter of William and Lola (Roush) Breckenridge, was born August 18, 1923 in Tingley, Iowa and passed away in the Ringgold County Hospital, Mount Ayr, Iowa, on November 30, 1999.
Jean graduated from the Tingley high school in 1940 and attended Iowa State Teacher College. She lived most of her life around Tingley except for a time during the war years.
She married Harry Skarda on February 12, 1948, and moved to a farm in Union county, Iowa. Later they moved to a farm east of Tingley where they resided at the time of her death.
She was an accomplished seamstress making many clothes for herself and relatives, including a wedding dress for her nephew's bride. Her Avon sales kept her busy for many years. She also enjoyed memberships in the T club and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Immediate survivors include her husband Harry Skarda; one sister Lois Jensen and her husband John of Davenport, Iowa; one brother Dean R. Breckenridge and wife Kay of Creston, Iowa; a sister-in-law Minnie Breck-enridge of Tingley; and a number of nieces, nephews and their children.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, William and Lola Brecken-ridge; one sister Reba Erickson and her husband Kenneth, Sr.; and one brother Billy.
Services were held at the United Methodist Church in Tingley on Thursday, December 2, 1999 with Reverend Jeff Flagg and Reverend Eydie Stephens officiating. Musicians were Ginny Eighmy, Alan Ibbotson and John Allen. Casketbearers were Kenneth Erickson, Jr., Mike Brecken-ridge, Andrew Jensen, John Skarda, Gary Skarda and Bryan Miller.
Interment was in the Tingley Cemetery, Tingley. Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home of Mount Ayr was in charge of the arrangements.
EDWARD CARL ADAMS
Edward Carl Adams was born May 1, 1910 in Mercer county, Missouri to Octavia Henry Adams and James Monroe Adams. He departed this life on December 13, 1999 at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa where he had lived the past five years due to declining health, at the age of 89.
On February 1, 1930 he was united in marriage to Ruby Ellen Cunningham. This union was blessed with a daughter, Kathleen Mae.
Their early years of marriage were spent around Davenport, Iowa. They later moved to the Kellerton area, where they spent 43 happy years on the farm, farming and growing watermelons.
In 1981, they retired and moved into their new home in Kellerton that they built. They loved to travel and enjoyed several winters in Mesa, Arizona. His love for gardening and growing watermelons continued after they moved to town. He was also remembered by all the kids, little and big, for his candy pocket and cupboard. He was a wonderful grandpa to everyone. His biggest joy in his life were his grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Ruby, daughter Kathleen Evans in 1989, four sisters: Irene, Velma, Jessie and Beulah and one brother Sam.
Edward is survived by his three grandchildren, Marla Johnson and husband Randy of Mount Ayr, Brenda Hynden and husband Doug of Lamoni and Russell Evans and wife Linda of Urbandale; six great-grandchildren: Derica, Darrin, Kelli, Jami, Brian and Terry; eight great-great-grandchildren: Alexis, Brett, Bradley, BayLee, Bo, Wyatt, Julia and Brianne; three brothers: Wayne, Cecil and Jimmy Adams; one sister, Eva Barton; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, December 16 at the Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa with Rev. Charles Hawkins officiating. Music was "Tell Me About the Good Old Days" by the Judd's.
Casketbearers were Don Adams, Larry Adams, Carrol Adams, Carl Bullock, Gerald Adams and Keith Adams.
Edward was laid to rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa.
MARJORIE O. JARRED BEYMER
Marjorie O. Jarred Beymer, born September 25, 1905, died Monday, December 20, 1999 at Friends Fellowship Health Care Center, Richmond, Indiana.
Her parents were Arthur and Rosetta Dyer Jarred; brothers and sisters were Wayne Jarred, Gail Jarred, Ruth Gangloff and Bertha Hanks, all deceased. She was the widow of Mark E. Beymer.
She was survived by her only child Mark Edwin Beymer of Richmond, Indiana, three grandchildren, John Beymer, Carol Burnett, Jennifer Symons and one great-grandson Matthew Beymer.
Marjorie and her husband Mark moved to Bloomington, Indiana shortly after their marriage in 1923 from Mount Ayr, Iowa, driving the dirt roads and camping out along the way. Marjorie was very proud that she continued her education, graduating from Bloom-ington high school even though she was married and working to help support her family. Marjorie was employed at the Wicks Department Store for many years. She had been a member of Fairview United Methodist Church since April, 1925. In 1987 she moved to Richmond, Indiana.
Reverend Edward Gardner, minister at Fairview United Methodist church, officiated at a committal service held Wednesday, December 22, 1999 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Bloomington, Indiana for family and close friends.
ELIZABETH K. BUCHANAN
Elizabeth K. Buchanan, 65, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, died December 8, 1999 at United Medical Center-West in Cheyenne.
She was born May 28, 1934 in Morden, Surry, England, and had lived in Cheyenne since 1974 with prior residence in England.
She is survived by her husband Master Sgt. James A. Buchanan of Cheyenne, originally from Diagonal, Iowa, whom she married March 30, 1957 in Carshalton, Surry, England; two sons, John Buchanan of Cheyenne and Gary Buchanan of Medina, Ohio; a daughter Terry Ann Frantsi of Blaine, Minnesota; a brother Fred Bromwich of Redhill, England; three sisters, Frieda Lambourne of Peterborough, England, Christine Codd of Epson, England and Valerie O'Connor of Wimbledon, England; three grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Elizabeth Bromwich; and two brothers.
Services were held at Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes with the Reverend Janet Forbes officiating. Pallbearers were Gene Turbeville, Lance Turbeville, Robert Jones, Bill Holman, Jon Ornelas and Jerry Hager.
Interment was in Cheyenne Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Widerspahn-Radomsky Chapel of the Chimes was in charge of arrangements.
MARIE "MICK" GARNER
Marie Zimmerman Cannon Garner was born May 24, 1916 in Anthon, Iowa to Jess and Eva Zimmerman and departed this life December 17, 1999 at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Marie was best known as "Mick" to most of her relatives and friends. Mick attended school in Anthon and Correctionville, Iowa before moving to Wiota, Iowa. There she met Wilbur Cannon and they were married September, 18, 1935 and moved to Taylor county, Iowa. In 1945 they moved to Ringgold county, Iowa. They had five children, Leroy, Mary Evelyn, Lois, Clair and Marvin. Wilbur passed away April 17, 1971.
On June 13, 1974 Mick married Marion Garner in Jerseyville, Illinois. She and Marion lived in Kampsville, Illinois for six years, then returned to Nevinville, Iowa for two years before moving to Polk Villa Apartments in Mount Ayr where she lived at the time of her death. Marion passed away September 10, 1986.
Mick enjoyed collecting dolls and pigs, sewing, shopping, making cookies and noodles for her grandchildren, and homemade bread for her sons-in-law. She also liked going fishing and camping. In the last few years her favorite pastime was putting puzzles together with her Polk Villa friends.
She was preceded in death by both husbands; a son Clair Cannon; a daughter Mary Evelyn Garner, a grandson Ronny Wayne Garner; and a stepgrandson Tony Garner.
She will be sadly missed by a daughter Lois and husband Rod Cloud of Mount Ayr; two sons, Leroy Cannon of Foss, Oklahoma and Marvin Cannon of Des Moines, Iowa; a son-in-law Ryland Garner of Eldred, Illinois; and six stepchildren whom she loved as her own children.
She was a very special grandma to Dean and Chris Garner, Barbara and Steve Bailey, Amy and John Jilg, Marcia and Tony Zirkelbach, Jesse and Julie Cannon, Shonna and Jason Miller, Brandy and Stacy Cannon, Rhonda and Khaled Abdalla, Kenny and Ryan Cloud.
She was a loving great-grandma to Jacque Armstrong, David Oyler, Kathryn Blagg, Allissa and Jordan Bailey, Ronnie and Richie Garner, Mary Beth Garner and Stephen Hayn, Haley and Levi Garner, Rayna Zirkelbach, Ibrahim and Moustafa Abdalla, Timothy and Brooklyn Cannon and Dallas and Daniel Miller.
She will be greatly missed by three sisters-in-law, a host of nieces, nephews and her friends at Polk Villa.
Funeral services were held on Monday, December 20, 1999 at Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home of Mount Ayr with Reverend Michael Druhl officiating. Musicians were Nancy Sackett, Margaret Bickers and Mary Webb. Casketbearers were Dean Garner, Kenny Cloud, Ryan Cloud, Jesse Cannon, David Oyler and Dean Zimmerman.
Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.
CARRALOU HANSON
Carralou Hanson, age 68, of Creston, Iowa, died Monday, December 20, 1999 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Carralou was born October 8, 1931 in Ellston, Iowa the daughter of Winnie Elizabeth Morgan and Lowell Henry Greene. She graduated from Mount Ayr high school, Mount Ayr, Iowa and received her associate degree from Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville, MO.
On September 1, 1956 Carralou and Bill Hanson were married in Creston. She was a homemaker and sold Avon products for 35 years. She and her husband made crafts and sold them for many years in stores and shows.
She was a member of the Methodist Church of Creston, Beta Sigma Phi sorority and an honorary member of Avon Corporation.
Preceding her in death were her parents (mom Winnie in June, 1999), a daughter Vicki Lynn and a son Monty Dean.
Carralou is survived by her husband Bill Hanson of Creston; sons, Kim Hanson and Rick Hanson, both of Creston; brother Gary (Shirley) Greene of Dallas, Texas; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 23, 1999 at Powers Funeral Home of Creston with Reverend Lyle Kuehl officiating.
Interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association.
JERRY DEAN KNEEDLER
Jerry Dean Kneedler was born August 22, 1949 in Des Moines, Iowa to Cecil Kneedler and Inez Kneedler and departed this life on December 14, 1999 at his home in Mount Ayr, Iowa.
Jerry spent his younger years living in Shenandoah and Winterset. His family moved to Mount Ayr, Iowa in 1966. He graduated from Mount Ayr Community High School in 1969.
He was married in March of 1977 to Nancy Fleetwood in Grant City, Missouri. They had one daughter from this marriage, Jennifer Ann, born December 18, 1978. They were divorced in February 1982. He spent the last 22 years working for the City of Mount Ayr, Iowa.
Jerry spent most of his life being a dedicated worker and a full-time father. He loved to fish, trap and hunt. He was always proud of the day's catch.
On April 12, 1995 Jerry had his first grandchild, Johnathan Alexander Hartfield. On March 17, 1997, he had his second grandchild, Jasmine Marie Hartfield. He always visited them at their home and just outright spoiled them. He always promised them he would take them fishing one day, but never got the chance.
Jerry was also very proud of serving in Viet Nam with the United States Army.
Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Lota Kneedler.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Jennifer Kneedler of Cainsville, Missouri; his grandchildren, Johnathan and Jasmine of Cainsville, Missouri; his friend, Sally Reed and Ron of Des Moines, Iowa; his mother, Inez Kneedler of Mount Ayr; three sisters: LaVenia and husband Lyle Stump of Woodward, Linda and husband Eugene Kohl of Mount Ayr and Judy and husband Eugene Dillenburg of Mount Ayr; and a brother Cecil Eugene and wife Lettie Kneedler of Winterset. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, as well as by friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, December 17, 1999 at the Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa with Pastor Rick Hawkins officiating. Musical selections were "The Dance" by Garth Brooks and "Butterfly Kisses" by Jeff Carson.
Casketbearers were Ken Jones, Robert Strange, Charles Waske, Kirk Greenman, Mike Wimer and Denzel Young. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Young, Mike Story, James Huffman, Gary Turner, Gary Hensley, Chris Kneedler, Dennis Huntsman, Roland Buck, and Duane Glick.
Jerry was laid to rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa with military graveside rites by Ringgold Post #172 American Legion.
