Harry Ballard
Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 2, 2001 at St Patrick's Catholic Church, Watkins, Iowa with Rev. Walter Kleinfehn celebrating. Burial at St. Patrick's & St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery in Watkins. Friends may call at the church from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, with a Scripture service at 7:30 p.m.

Harry Ballard was born on July 17, 1910 in Raywick, Kentucky; the son of Jim and Esther (Witfield) Ballard. Harry moved to Iowa when he was 6 years old and received his education in Catholic school. Harry then helped his father on the farm before his marriage to Agnes Kimm on September 10, 1935, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Watkins, Iowa. They made their home on a farm south of Norway, living there most of their married life. Harry owned and operated a trucking business, which included two livestock trucks and a lime truck. He trucked for many years for area farmers before retiring in his early 60’s. In 1958, Harry and Agnes built a new home on their farm, living there until moving to the extended care at Marengo Memorial Hospital in May of 2000. It was there that Harry’s death came on Tuesday morning, January 30, 2001, at the age of 90 years. He was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Watkins and served on the Norway School Board for 5 years, serving one year as President. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, working in the garden and taking care of his yard. Harry was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Edmond Ballard. He is survived by his wife Agnes, a son Raymond (Claudette) Ballard of Norway, a daughter Kathleen (Dick) Waln of Amana, 6 grandchildren; Susan Ballard and friend Terry Meeks, John (Erin) Ballard, Mary Lou (Mike) Myers, Joe (Barb) Ballard, Nancy (Mark) Dvorak and Gina Kolsto, 7 great grandchildren; Brittany Ballard, Jamie Jo Ballard, Kristen Myers, Dylan Dvorak, Lance Dvorak, Kevin Kolsto and Jordan Kolsto, 4 brothers; James, Robert (Margie), Le Roy (Mildred), Richard (Carol) Ballard all of Marengo, and 3 sisters: Estelle (Randy) Kinsler, Irene (Lawrence) Frimml and Helen (Parlyn) Plotz all of Marengo.
Russell William Blattner
Services: 11:00 am on Monday, March 26, 2001 at the American Legion Hall in Blairstown, with burial at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery Blairstown. Visitation at the Overton Family Funeral Home in Blairstown from 2:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday.

Russell William Blattner was born on June 14, 1954 in Trenton, MO, the son of Irvin William & Frances Pauline (McAtee) Blattner. Russell’s family eventually moved to Iowa and Russell attended school in Monticello, and graduated with the class of 1972. He later attended Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. On March 3, 1973 Russell was united in marriage to Evelyn Marie Oltmann, and they made their home in Cedar Rapids, Monticello and for many years in Blairstown. They have since divorced. Russell has recently been working for Hall & Hall Engineering, and in his spare time he was a “shade tree mechanic,” fixing up and working on cars for his family and himself. He was an avid softball player and coached many youth teams and leagues for the boys and girls in Blairstown. Tragically, Russell’s death came in an automobile accident on Thursday, March 22, 2001. He was 46 years of age. He was preceded in death by his father. His memory will be cherished by his mother of Trenton, MO, his fiancée; Donna Volker of Luzerne and her 2 children Andy & Sarah, 3 daughters and their husbands and fiancées; Kimberly (Half Pint) Blattner & Dave Burrell of Dysart, Holly (Small Fry) Blattner & Jeff Heathman of Ely, Rhonda (Little Bit) & Todd Moyer of Anamosa, his son; Tim (Shooter) Blattner of Blairstown, 3 grandchildren; Keaton & Kayla Miller, Jaysen Moyer; 1 sister; Louise Bryan of Trenton, MO, 3 brothers and their wives; Doug & Barbara of Brooklyn, IA, Glenn & Marie of Atlanta, GA & Dan & Stacy of Oceanside, CA. He will also be missed by his many other relatives and friends.
M. Lee Dukes

M. Lee Dukes was born February 18, 1936 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Amos and Mary Chmelicek Dukes. He grew up in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Wilson High School in 1954. On April 24, 1955, he married Dorothy Procok in Cedar Rapids. Lee worked in sales and accounting at Wilson & Company from 1954 to 1974. The couple moved to Blairstown in 1974 and operated Lee's Lounge until 1980. From 1980 until his retirement in 1986, Lee was sales manager for Iowa Prison Industries. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Blairstown and a past member of the Knights of Columbus. He was very active in Blairstown organizations, including the Development Corporation and the Community Foundation and Investment Club. He also coached several ball teams, including Cedar Hills Booster Club teams, Wilson & Co. Industrial League fast-pitch and Blairstown fast-pitch. Lee loved family gatherings, following his children's and grandchildren's activities, golfing, reading, music and dancing and his community involvement in Cedar Rapids and Blairstown. He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin sister, Lois Wink, on November 20, 2000. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, Blairstown, two sons, Mark (Kathy) Dukes, Cedar Rapids, Craig (Kay) Dukes, Mountain Home, NC, one daughter, Lori (Lynn) McClenathan, Victor, IA, grandson, Matthew Dukes, granddaughters Sarah and Stephanie Dukes and Stacy and Monica McClenathan, step grandson, Bryan Duncan, step great granddaughter, Kassidy Duncan, one niece and two nephews.
Ila Lorraine Duncalf was born November 25, 1933 at Norway, Iowa, to Delbert and Anna Siepman Garwood. She attended school in Blairstown, graduating with the class of 1951. On August 28, 1951, she married Wilfrid Duncalf in Belle Plaine, Iowa. The couple lived and farmed in the Luzerne area all their married life. Ila enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. Ila's death came Sunday, June 24, 2001 at the Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids from cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents and one siste, Bernadine Marks. She is survived by her husband, Wilfrid, and son Dean, both at home in Luzerne, son Stan and wife, Carolyn, of Waverly, IA, son Bruce of Marion, IA, four brothers, George Garwood and wife, Marie, Vinton, IA, Virgil Garwood and wife, Rita, Merle Garwood and wife, Leota, and Dennis Garwood and wife, Pat, all of Cedar Rapids IA, two sisters, Marcella Olson, Belle Plaine, IA, and Jane Himmelsbach and husband, Rich, Norway, IA, four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Wayne Joseph Ehrman
Services: 10:30 am on Monday, May 14, 2001 at St. John's Catholic Church, Blairstown. Visitation will be held at Overton Family Funeral Home in Blairstown on Sunday, May 13, from 2:00-8:00 PM. A scripture service will be held at 7:00 pm

Wayne Joseph Ehrman was born on April 17, 1952 at Cedar Rapids, Iowa; the son of Harold and Alice (Voss) Ehrman. He attended school in Blairstown and graduated from Benton Community High School in the Class of 1970. He then was self employed as a truck driver and farmed much of his life on the family farm. Wayne was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed spending time with his friends in outdoor activities. Much of their time together was spent hunting and especially, duck hunting. One of Wayne’s best buddies, his dog, Jessie, could be found with him where he went and on many hunting trips. He also showed cattle at many shows around the area. Wayne had been fighting a battle with cancer for the past year, and his death came Thursday evening, May 10, 2001, at the age of 49 years. He was preceded in death by his father Harold in 1990. Wayne is survived by his mother Alice Ehrman of Blairstown, a brother Allen Ehrman and his wife Sue of Blairstown, a nephew Lance Ehrman and 2 nieces; Cassandra and Christina Ehrman.
Eldo A. Voss
Services: 10:30 am on Tuesday, January 16, 2001 at the St. John's Catholic Church in Blairstown, with Visitation from 4:00 - 8:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the St. Pat's & Paul's Cemetery near Watkins.

Eldo A. Voss was born near Watkins, Iowa on January 21, 1914, the son of Henry & Gertrude (Obertine) Voss. Eldo was raised and attended country school near Watkins prior to beginning his life as a farmer. He farmed for most of his life and many of the years were with Mr. Charles Sieks on his farm. Over the years Eldo enjoyed fishing and loved to watch a good game of baseball. He was faithful Catholic and in his younger years he attended St. Patrick’s in Watkins, were he also was a member of the Catholic Order of Forresters. Eldo was residing at the Heritage Acres Care Center in Cedar Rapids when his death came Saturday, January 13, 2001, at the age of 86 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter; Bonita Schmidt, 4 sisters and 5 brothers. Eldo’s memory is cherished by his son and his wife: Gerald & Cindy of Sarasota, FL, a daughter and her husband; Carole & Al Cerrato of Las Vegas, NV, 1 brother; Alfred Voss of Blairstown, 2 sisters; Alice Ehrman of Blairstown and Rozella Pickart of Fairfax, 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Irene Johnson
Services: 10:30 am on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001 at Calvary United Methodist Church, Blairstown. Visitation will be held at Overton Family Funeral Home in Blairstown on Monday from 4:00-7:00 PM. Burial will be a Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blairstown. A lunch will follow immediately in the church fellowship hall.

Irene Anna Marie Johnson, age 96, was born on February 15, 1905 at Belle Plaine, Iowa; the daughter of Frederick and Ordinancy (Schluntz) Lahn. She attended rural school and graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1924. Irene continued her education at Iowa State Teacher College summer school in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught in rural schools for six years in Kane and Leroy Townships. Irene married Lewis Johnson in Marshalltown, Iowa on December 24, 1930 and they lived in Blairstown all their married life. Lewis passed away on February 5, 1974 and Irene continued to live in Blairstown. Her activities included; a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church in Blairstown, served on the church board and was president of the UMW, a member of the Order of Eastern Star for 69 years, having joined on March 12, 1932, Past Matron of Lincoln Star Chapter and a charter member of the Blairstown Senior Citizens Club. Irene enjoyed spending time with family, cooking, traveling and sports. More recently, she has been a resident at the Marengo Memorial Hospital Care Center where her death came on Friday, November 23, 2001. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lewis, a sister Alvena Janss and 2 brothers; John and Alfred Lahn. Survivors include a sister-in-law Evelyn Lahn of Belle Plaine, 3 nephews and their spouses; Roger and Jean Lahn of Park City, Utah, Victor and Donna Lahn of Sioux City, IA, & John and Beverly Lahn of Springfield, IL, a niece Janet Janss of Cedar Rapids, a close relative Edna Heitmann of Keystone and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Special friends include Theresa and Kenneth Snitker of Van Horne & Cheryl and Jay Lieb of Blairstown.
Aric Michael Kahle

Aric Michael Kahle was born in Cedar Rapids on March 24, 1971, the son of Francis and Bonnie Becker Kahle. Aric grew up in Norway, graduating from Norway High School with the class of 1989. He attended Iowa State University and graduated with a degree in political science. Aric worked for the Dole presidential campaign in 1996 and as Communications Director for the Republican Party of Iowa in Des Moines. For the past year and a half, he has been working for the mayor of New York City as Inter-Governmental Affairs Liaison. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Bonnie. Survivors include three sisters, Coreen Albertsen and husband, David, of Keystone, IA, Kim Kahle of Norway, IA, and Kris Lefebure and husband, Dale, of Fairfax, IA, one brother, Alan Kahle and wife, Stephanie, of Fountain Valley, CA, five nieces and five nephews. He was a wonderful brother and uncle and his great sense of humor and his big smile will be missed by many.
Gloria Ann Klug
Services: 10:30 am on Monday, February 19, 2001 at the St. John's Catholic Church in Blairstown, with Visitation from 2:00 - 8:00 pm on Sunday at the Overton Family Funeral Home in Blairstown where a Scripture Service will begin at 7:00 pm. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blairstown.

Gloria Ann Hopkins Klug was born January 21, 1941 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of James and Mabel Zimmerman Hopkins. She grew up in Cedar Rapids, graduating from Regis High School in 1959. On May 26, 1962 she married Harold Klug in Cedar Rapids. In 1972, the couple moved to rural Blairstown, where they have lived for the past twenty-nine years. Gloria was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Blairstown, where she was active in the Altar and Rosary Society. She also assisted the elderly in the community with transportation and support services and helped with government elections. Gloria loved working in her garden and took great pride in her flowers. She also enjoyed making stained glass windows. Following a lengthy illness, Gloria died peacefully in her home with her family around her on Thursday, February 15, 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Randy James Klug, in 1976. Survivors include her husband, Harold, daughter, Bethany Klug and granddaughter Yvette Rivera of Belle Plaine, sons Jefferey, Coralville, IA, and Christopher, Blairstown, one sister, Mary Nadine Stewart and husband, Loren, Audobon, IA, and one brother, James Hopkins and wife, Lorrie, Sulphur, LA.
