HUNDLEY, DONALD RUSSEL was born August 22, 1925 at Cedar Falls, Iowa the son of Russel & Anna (Jenkins) Hundley. He married Betty Jean Mulford August 12, 1950 in Cedar Falls. She preceded him in death on January 26, 1997. Donald retired as a supervisor with Waterloo Industries in 1985. He died Friday, June 6, 2003 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa at the age of 77 years.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis (Mary) Hundley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Steven (Debbie) Hundley of Barron, Wisconsin; three daughters, Sandy (Jim) McBride and Judy (Earl) Van Sickle both of Cedar Falls, and Jody (Vince Hoffman) Hundley of Gladstone, Missouri; eight grandchildren, one great granddaughter; and three sisters, Beverly (Louis) Boeck of Janesville, Iowa, Alice (Eugene) Wilson of Waterloo and Dixie Hundley of Cedar Falls. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one sister, Joan Randall.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Falls Historical Society.
HURLBUT, DALLAS LEE was born December 15, 1924, in Black Hawk County, Iowa, the son of Lee and Leoti (Billman) Hurlbut. He married Martha Marie Bruene on June 1, 1950, near Traer, Iowa. Dallas served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Savo Island in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during W.W. II. He was a self-employed truck driver for many years, was a driver for W.R. Arthur and Carnation, and was a poultry farmer for Hy-Line International until his retirement. Dallas was a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows Cedar Valley Lodge #233, the Cedar Falls Encampment #47, the Cedar Canton #30, the Happy Thought Rebekah Lodge #256 and a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Cedar Falls. He was Past Department Commander of the Department Council of Iowa and the Past Grand Patriarch of the Grand Encampment of Iowa. Dallas died Thursday, September 7, 2000, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 75 years of age.
He is survived by his wife Martha, of Cedar Falls; his two daughters, Marilyn Hurlbut of Cedar Falls and Evelyn Falk (Ken) of Chandler, Arizona; his son, Robert Hurlbut (Kim) of Cedar Falls and three grandchildren, Christopher and Justin Hurlbut and Kristine Falk.
Dallas was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Dallas Lewis Hurlbut and a sister, Lillian G. Miller.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 11, 2000, at First Baptist Church, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established.
IDSO, GAIL H. was born august 28,1918 the daughter of Will A. and Clara F. (Rank) Southall. She married Amos (Andy) Idso September 27, 1942 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He preceded her death January 3, 1996. Gail worked for Porter’s Camera, retiring in 1993. She died February 8, 2001 at her home in Cedar Falls, Iowa at the age of 82 years.
Gail is survived by three daughters; Janice Dallas, Belton, Mo., Sally Carmichael, Tripoli, Iowa and Andrea Clark, Cedar Falls, Iowa; three grandchildren, Kimberly Carmichael, Brian Carmichael and Kristi Clayton; three great grandchildren, Kayla, Hunter, and Bryce Carmichael; and her mother Clara F. Southall, Cedar Falls, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her father, husband, and two brothers, Howard and Donald Southall.
Services were 1:30 p.m. Monday, February 12, 2001 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. Private family burial will be in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be given to the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.
IZER, LYNN MARION was born April 3, 1969 in Story City, Iowa, the son of Marion and Shirley (Williams) Izer. He married Shannon Skiles on March 11, 2000, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Lynn was a graduate of Alden High School, Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa and the Kansas City Kansas Community College Mortuary Science Program. He served his internship and was a funeral director with the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Lynn enjoyed being a referee for high school basketball and an umpire for high school and college baseball. He died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, in Cedar Falls, at 31 years of age.
Lynn is survived by his wife Shannon and their son Jackson Skiles, both of Cedar Falls; his parents, Marion and Shirley Izer of Iowa Falls; a brother, Marty Izer of Alden, Iowa; two sisters, Shellane Nicknam of San Jose, California and Rochelle Armstrong of Burnsville, Minnesota; many cousins, nephews and nieces, and aunts and uncles, and his father and mother-in-law, Gary and Linda Skiles of Cedar Falls, and their family.
He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 19, 2000 at Nazareth Lutheran Church with burial in Alden Cemetery, Alden, Iowa. A memorial fund will be established.
JACOBS, HAZEL MAE was born February 14, 1905 in Clarksville, Iowa, the daughter of George William and Dora Belle (Bickley) Clark. She married Herbert F. Jacobs on February 18, 1926 in Clarksville. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1992. Hazel was a graduate of Clarksville High School and she and her husband farmed near the town for many years. Her family attended St. John Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for 22 years. In 1953 they moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa and opened Jacobs’ Pet and Floral Shop on College Hill. The two of them, along with their daughter June, ran the shop and served the community for 35 years. Hazel enjoyed weaving rugs and teaching classes on making and painting figurines. She died Friday, May 31, 2002, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 97 years of age.
Hazel is survived by her daughter, June Jacobs of Cedar Falls.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; a brother, Howard Clark and two sisters, Sara Satory and Doris Hanson.
Graveside Committal Services were 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002, at Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville, Iowa.
JACOBSON, ESTHER KATHERINE was born January 24, 1911 in Brayton, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Cecilia (Thompson) Rasmussen. She married LeRoy Jacobson, they were later divorced. Esther died on Thursday, September 24, 1998 at Windsor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa at the age of 87 years.
She is survived by one son, Donald L. Jabobson of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Leota Oberheu of Waterloo and Loreen Frisch of Cedar Falls; ten grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Carrie Nelsen and three brothers, Elmer, Raymond and Ted Rasmussen.
Services were held September 28, 1998 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with burial at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials were directed to the family.
JACOBSON, DONALD D.was born June 11, 1927 in Clear Lake, Iowa, the son of Henry A. and Vernetta L. (Hanson) Jacobson. He was a 1945 graduate of Clear Lake High School and served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Donald married Betty M. Lindberg on March 10, 1962 in Waterloo, Iowa. She preceded him in death on April 5, 1998. He was a technician with Williams Bros. Pipeline in Clear Lake, Marshall, Minnesota and Hudson, Iowa, retiring in 1992. Donald died Wednesday, September 12, 2001 at Bickford Cottage in Cedar Falls, Iowa, at 74 years of age.
He is survived by his two daughters, Sally Hughes of Seattle, Washington and Betsy Kujak of Bloomington, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Michael and Tom Kujak, and Brian Hughes; two brothers, Robert Jacobson of Clear Lake and James Jacobson of Cedar Falls, and a sister Arlene Gleeson of West Des Moines, Iowa.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
Memorial services were 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 17, 2001at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral and Cremation Service in Cedar Falls. Military Flag Folding Rites were conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Bend Humane Society or Cedar Valley Hospice.
JARCHOW, ARLENE (HARPER) was born July 17, 1920 at Oelwein, Iowa the daughter of Floyd & Elsie (Peeper) Harper. She married Alfred A. Jarchow on May 28, 1939 in Oelwein. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1994. Arlene was employed at Raytheon when they lived in Oelwein and the was employed at Sears in Waterloo for many years when they lived in Cedar Falls. She died Friday, March 28, 2003 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo at the age of 82 years.
Survivors include four nephews, Dennis Jarchow of Waterloo, Jim Jarchow of Dubuque, Greg Jarchow of Oelwein, Tim Jarchow of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and four nieces, Kathy Harshberger of Cedar Falls, Colleen Jarchow of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Marcia Hagedorn of Roland, Iowa and Janice Kauten of Alamosa, Colorado. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Harold M. Harper and Verne F. Harper.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at St. John Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls with burial in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein. Memorials may be given to the church.
JAY, RUTH E. was born on March 1, 1929 in Waterloo, Iowa the daughter of R.E. and Bess (Holtman) Boller. She married Robert K. Jay on May 28, 1949 in Waterloo, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1983. Ruth died on Sunday, September 13, 1998 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, Iowa at the age of 69 years.
She is survived by two sons, Jeff of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Chris of Delhi, Iowa; one daughter, Barb Eichhorst of Rosemount, Minnesota; thirteen grandchildren, Heather, Adam and Travis Jay, Tyler and Katie Eichhorst and Nick Ryan, Aaron, Andrew, Alex, Kate, Anna and Abby Jay; two brothers, Richard of Golden Valley, Minnesota and Paul of Waterloo, Iowa and two sisters, Dorothy Brumble of Lees Summit, Missouri and Lois Osness of Waterloo, Iowa.
Ruth was preceded by her parents, husband, one grandson, Matthew Eichhorst and one brother, Lee.
Memorial Services were 1:00 p.m. September 16, 1998 at the funeral home with inurnment in Garden of Memories, Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa.
JEANES, CARYL N. was born April 13, 1920 in Mt. Ayr, Iowa, the daughter of Earl Guy and Hazel Loretta (Straight) Saltzman. She married Donald Jeanes on December 7, 1938 at Mt. Ayr. He preceded her in death on April 5, 1977. Caryl was a nutritionist for many years at Harmony House Health Care Center in Waterloo, Iowa, retiring in 1982. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly, Iowa, United Methodist Women and was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Caryl died Monday, October 13, 2003, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, at 83 years of age.
She is survived by her three sons, Larry E. (Teresa) Jeanes of Plainfield, Iowa, and Roger L. (Bev) and W. Alan (Sandra) Jeanes, both of Westgate, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Laurie Jeanes, Eric Jeanes, Heather Holmes, Jodi Riverso, Cary, Neil and Lonny Jeanes, and Keith, Chris and Corey Jeanes; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother, Les (Ruth) Saltzman of Denver, Iowa and four sisters, Emma Morgensen of Cedar Falls, Lois (LeRoy) Litchfield of Yuma, Arizona, Rella Southard of Cedar Falls and June (Frank)Neighbors of Mason City, Iowa.
Caryl was preceded in death by her husband and parents; a brother, Evan Saltzmand and a sister, Wilma Loomis.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2003, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Dike, Iowa. A memorial fund will be established.
JENNINGS, SIGNE L., 91, of Cedar Falls, Iowa died Tuesday, September 18, 2001, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls. She was born July 1, 1910 in Sherwood, North Dakota, the daughter of Gudbrand and Bertha (Eittreim) Esval. Signe married Philip C. Jennings on March 18, 1933 in Ames, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 30, 1992. She was a member of Chapter FV-PEO, the 19th Century Club, Sartori Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was a board member at Goodwill Industries.
Signe is survived by her daughter, Natalie J. Thatcher of Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren, Clint Brammer, Ginger Watkins, Michael Thatcher, Bradley Thatcher and Anne MacConnell; four great-grandchildren and a sister, Gladys Miller.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; a son, Philip C. Jennings, Jr. and a brother, Orland Esval.
Memorial services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2001, at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home and Cremation Service. Inurnment was at Fairview Cemetery in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the University of Northern Iowa or Iowa State University Foundation for the Jennings Memorial Scholarship Funds.
JENSEN, ARLENE RUTH, was born December 2, 1922 in Denver, Iowa the daughter of Theo J. and Letha D. (Jones) Neverman. She married Herman Jensen August 31, 1940 in Cedar Falls. Arlene was a homemaker and an avid volunteer, having volunteered in many different capacities at St. John Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Home, the Bible Conference Grounds and for other organizations. She died Thursday, October 12, 2000 at Sartori Memorial Hospital at the age of 77 years.
Survivors include her husband, Herman, of Cedar Falls; two sons, Bob Jensen of Cedar Falls and Dick Jensen of Waverly; six grandchildren, Kim Jordan, Tami Halterman, Erick Jensen, Angie Dugger, and Chris Bergman; nine great grandchildren and one step brother, Don Hunemiller of Long Beach, California. She was preceded in death by her parents and her step mother, Lula Neverman.
Services were 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the church.
JENSEN, EMMA C. , 86, of Cedar Falls, died Saturday, February 22, 2003 at her daughter's home near Toddville, Iowa. She was born October 28, 1916 in Cedar Falls, the daughter of Nick and Elsie (Petersen) Dockwell. She married Erhardt I. Jensen on November 21, 1936 in Galena, Illinois. He preceded her in death on May 21, 1977. Emma was a clerk-typist for 30 years at the University of Northern Iowa Placement Office. She was a long-time member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls.
Emma is survived by her two daughters, Judy Eriksen of Ankeny, Iowa and Katy (Ron) Strand of Toddville; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a sister, Betty (Orlyn) Bergmann of Clinton, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; a sister, Anna Boehmke and four step-sisters, Vendla Webrand, Helen Uschkrat, Laura Bode and Ethel Nelson.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 27, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with private burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the church or Hospice of Mercy in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
