Jensen, Jerald L. "Jerry", 70, formerly of 748 Newton Street in Waterloo died Friday, July 6, 2001 at ManorCare Health Services of Natural Causes. He was employed at Titus Manufacturing for many years. Survivors include his daughter, Debra Marion of Cedar Falls, his son, Bryan Jensen of Waterloo, four grandchildren, his brother, James Jensen of Finchford, Iowa and his sister, Diane Koehler of Omaha, Nebraska.
There were no visitation or services. Inurnment was in Greenwood Cemetery.
JOHNSON, BOBBIE D. was born September 5, 1929 in DeKalb County, Missouri, the son of Earl E. and Ella Inez (Newby) Johnson. He married Alice Sue Huff on July 22, 1950 in Gallatin, Missouri. Bobbie was a supervisor in the iron foundry at Viking Pump Company in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He worked there for 36 years, retiring in December of 1991. Bobbie died Thursday, May 27, 1999 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 69 years of age.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Sue Johnson of Cedar Falls; his children, Vivian Wertjes of Shawnee, Kansas, Jerry Johnson of Shell Rock, Iowa and Gary and David Johnson, both of Cedar Falls; five grandchildren, Matthew and Stephanie Wertjes and Nicole, Travis and Jason Johnson; a great-granddaughter, Samantha Guido; his brother, Garel L. Johnson of Cedar Falls and his sister, Barbara Brown of Grundy Center, Iowa. Bobbie was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 1999 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the church.
JOHNSON, EARL was born May 12, 1917 near New Hartford, Iowa the son of John and Lena (Stroh) Johnson. He married Grace A. Doeden December 29, 1939 at Grace United Methodist Church in Waterloo. Earl served in the U. S. Army in the European Theatre during WWII. He was a machinist at John Deere for 17 years retiring in 1982 and was on the Board of Directors of the Iowa Pinto Horse Association. Earl died Saturday, February 17, 2001 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls at the age of 83 years.
Survivors include his wife, Grace, Cedar Falls, Iowa; three sons, Richard Earl Johnson and his wife, Linda, Cedar Falls, David Johnson and his wife, Bev, Prior Lake, Minnesota, Mark A. Johnson and his wife, Wendy, Kelley, Iowa; one daughter, Nancy Tjebkes and her husband, Dudley, Longmont, Colorado; 10 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren; and three sisters, Louise Schurman, New Hartford, Pearl Christofferson, Waterloo, and Helen Bramblette, Cedar Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Leona, and one brother, John Johnson, Jr.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2001 at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls with burial in Garden of Memories in Waterloo with military rites conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49. Memorials may be given to the American Lung Association, Cedar Valley Hospice, or the church.
JOHNSON, ESTHER K. JEPSEN was born August 7, 1906 in Dike, Iowa, the daughter of Lars and Oline (Jensen) Sorensen. She married Ernest E. Jepsen in August of 1926. He preceded her in death on January 6, 1955. Esther then married Arthur W. Johnson on November 29, 1957 at Fredsville Lutheran Church. He died on October 20, 1994. Esther was graduate of Dike High School and Iowa State Teachers College. She was a teacher and later a clerk at the Registrar’s Office at the University of Northern Iowa. Esther was a member of Fredsville Lutheran Church, Business Professional Women and the Eastern Star. She died Sunday, November 2, 2003, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, at 97 years of age.
Esther is survived by two sons, Roger (Dee) Jepsen of Port Charlotte, Florida and Myron (Bertie) Jepsen of Cedar Falls; a daughter, Carol (James) Nymann of El Paso, Texas; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands; a brother, Orla Sorensen and a granddaughter, Linda.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2003, at Fredsville Lutheran Church with burial at Fredsville Lutheran Cemetery, both in rural Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the church or the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.
JOHNSON, GARY B. was born February 23, 1937 in Waukon, Iowa the son of Earl and Gertrude (Ludeking) Johnson. He graduated from Decorah High School in 1955 then served in the U. S. Air Force as a weather technician. He worked for the National Weather Service in Chicago, Des Moines, and Waterloo. Gary retired in 1992 with 33 years of service, the last 20 at the weather station at the Waterloo Airport. Gary died Tuesday, August 21, 2001 at Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls, at the age of 64 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Krista Johnson and Vicki Reuter, both of Cedar Falls, two grandchildren, his mother, Gertrude Johnson of Decorah; two brothers, Don Johnson of Akron, Ohio, and Thomas Johnson of Des Moines, and his good friend, Nona Smith and her daughters, Wendy Smith and Ryanne North, all of Cedar Falls.
Gary was preceded in death by his father and his sister, Charlotte, who died at birth.
Funeral services were 1 p.m. Friday, August 24, 2001 at First Lutheran Church with burial in Lutheran Cemetery, both in Decorah. Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral & Cremation Service in Cedar Falls and for an hour before service time at the church on Friday. Memorials may be directed to Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls or First Lutheran Church in Decorah.
JOHNSON, GERALD "GERRY" DEAN , 55, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Thursday, July 15, 2004, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa. Gerry was born February 18, 1949 at Waterloo, Iowa the son of Clarence G. and Matilda L. (Lauterbach) Johnson. He married Peggy Kay Hain on July 22, 1977 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Gerry graduated from Allison High School in 1967 and the University of Northern Iowa in 1971. He was a comptroller for Martin Bros. Distributing in Cedar Falls for over 21 years and since 1977 was a C.P.A. working out of his home. Gerry also farmed for many years in Butler County, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy, of Cedar Falls; his children, Krystle, Kourtney and Griffin Johnson, all of Cedar Falls; his mother, Matilda Johnson of Allison, Iowa; a brother, Randal (Marj) Johnson of Clarksville, Iowa; two sisters, Mavis (Steve) Wicks of Allison and Carol (Dennis) Wilcox of Madrid, Iowa; his uncles and aunts, and many cousins.
Gerry was preceded in death by his father, Clarence G. Johnson, and a brother, Ronald Johnson.
Funeral services were 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2004, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to Nazareth Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.
JOHNSON, GRACE A. was born January 24, 1921 in rural New Hartford, Iowa, the daughter of E. W. and Ella (Bergman) Doeden. She married Earl Johnson on December 29, 1939 in Waterloo, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 17, 2001. Grace worked for the Cedar Falls School District for many years and for Wheeler’s Autobody Supply for the past five years. She enjoyed her family and friends, fishing and camping, baking, especially cookies and pies, and watching Hawkeye and Cyclone basketball games. Grace died Friday, May 10, 2002, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, at 81 years of age.
She is survived by her children, Richard E. “Dick” Johnson (Linda) of Cedar Falls, David Johnson (Bev) of Prior Lake, Minnesota, Nancy Tjebkes (Dudley) of Cedar Falls and Mark A. Johnson (friend Susan) of Kelley, Iowa; ten grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jim Doeden of Apache Junction, Arizona, Tommy and Ernie Doeden, both of Cedar Falls and a sister, Dena Huisman of Parkersburg, Iowa.
Grace was preceded in death by her husband and parents; an infant daughter, Leona; a sister, Anna Treager and three brothers, George, Joe and Omke Doeden.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls, with intermenty at Garden of Memories in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
JOHNSON, HELENE F. Helene was born may 14, 1901 in Grundy County, Iowa the daughter of Nels & Marie (Bruhn) Andersen. She married Clarence Johnson August 30, 1927 at Fredsville Lutheran Church, rural Cedar Falls. He died September 5, 1965. Helene died Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home at the age of 102 years.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond (Alma) Johnson of Luck, Wisconsin and Vernon (Margaret) Johnson of Santa Clara, California; one daughter, Lorraine (Donald) Braun of Cedar Falls, 9 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Amanda Strandskow of Solvang, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and four brothers, Harold, Thorvald, Arnold and Edward Andersen.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Friday at Fredsville Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Fredsville Lutheran Church or the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Endowment Fund.
JOHNSON, KATHRYN, 71, of Cedar Falls died Monday, December 29, 2003 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home. She was born November 5, 1932 on a farm in Butler County, Iowa the daughter of George & Maud (Stirling) Dove. Kathryn was a homemaker, farmer, and waitress.
Survivors include two sons, Darrell Johnson of Greeley, Colorado and Charles “Tom” (Melinda) Johnson of Cedar Falls, Iowa; one daughter, Donna Boyd of Queen City, Missouri; eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two brothers, Dallas “Butch” (MaryLee) Dove and Keith (Kay) Dove, both of New Hartford, and two sisters, Winifred Clayton of Cedar Falls and Donna May of Rogers, Arkansas. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Wally Dove.
Memorial services were 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2004 at the New Hartford United Methodist Church with inurnment in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Kathryn Johnson Memorial Fund % of Iowa State Bank, New Hartford, Iowa.
JOHNSON, MARY LOU , 82, of Waverly, Iowa, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at the Cedar Falls Health Care Center. She was born November 21, 1921 in Studgard, Arkansas, the daughter of Otto and Alvilda (Jacobsen) Luders. Mary married Virgil W. Johnson on February 3, 1940 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She was a cook and waitress for 24 years at the "Farmer's Friend", "Fred's Super-Valu" and numerous other restaurants in Waverly, retiring from "The Hub" in 1983. Mary loved her husband Virgil of 64 years, and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed attending rummage sales, garage sales and auctions, and had an extensive doll collection and Princess Di collection. Mary was a member of Washington Chapel Methodist Church in rural Cedar Falls.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil, of Waverly; two sons, Albert W. (Judy) Johnson of Traer, Iowa and Steven R. Johnson of Waterloo, Iowa; three daughters, Judy Johnson McCloud of New Providence, Iowa, and Connie Johnson (Duane) Schneider and Sandra Johnson (Arlin) Thoms, all of Waverly; sixteen grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Albert Luders of Cedar Falls and Harold (Verna) Luders of New Hartford, Iowa.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Frank Mathes; a brother, Vergal Luders; a son-in-law, Larry McCloud; a sister-in-law, Jo Luders and a nephew, Bob Luders.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls with burial at Washington Chapel Cemetery, rural Cedar Falls, at a later date. A memorial fund will be established at a later date.
JONES, PATRICIA LOUISE "PAT" WOOLSEY , 61, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, September 15, 2004, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. She was born March 9, 1943 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Stephen and Eloise (Clark) Woolsey. She married Darold Jones on September 18, 1964 in Finchford, Iowa. Pat was a 1961 graduate of West Waterloo High School and a 1986 graduate of Hawkeye Institute of Technology. She was a supervisor for eight years at R. L. Polk Company and worked for several years at US West in Waterloo until her retirement in 1995 due to health reasons.
She is survived by her husband, Darold, of Waterloo; her daughter, Dawn (Rick) Chase of Dewar, Iowa, and three grandchildren, Stephen, Stephanie and Tyler Chase.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services were 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 20, at the Western Home Chapel in Cedar Falls. Private committal services will be at a later date. A memorial fund will be established.
JUNGLING, GEORGE was born August 29, 1931 in Butler County, Iowa, the son of Henry and Albertdena (Tjebkes) Jungling. He married Donna Peters on September 2, 1949 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She preceded him in death on May 7, 1996. George worked for Cedar Lumber Company in Cedar Falls for 26 years and the University of Northern Iowa for 15 years. He died Saturday, September 21, 2002, at his home in Cedar Falls, at 71 years of age.
George is survived by his children, Doug Jungling, Connie Schuerman and her husband Jim and Ken Jungling and his wife Carmen, all of Cedar Falls, and Kathie Weinfurtner and her husband Paul of Blair, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Christopher, Jolynn, Dan, Joe, Karen and Sheri; five great-grandchildren and a sister, Catherine Johnston of Waterloo, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents; three brothers, Henry, John and Albert Jungling, and two sisters, Annie Osborn and Grace Nielsen.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Thursday, September 26, 2002, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established.
JUNGLING, LUCILLE was born April 27, 1921, at Denver, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Ida (Zacharias) Kirchoff. She married Henry Jungling on November 20, 1938 in New Hartford, Iowa. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1975. Lucille died Friday, June 20, 2003, at Parkview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Waterloo, Iowa, at the age of 82 years.
She is survived by two sons, Wade (Pat) Jungling of Waterloo and Michael (Sue) Jungling of Phoenix, Arizona; one daughter, Florence Mobley of Cedar Falls, Iowa; ten grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Arthur Kirchoff of Waterloo; and three sisters, Elizabeth Rogers of Cedar Falls, Helen Bales of Waverly, Iowa and Irene Matthias of Waterloo.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents and husband, six sisters and three brothers.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, at Crossroads Assembly of God in Waterloo, with intermenty at Finchford Cemetery in Finchford, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 - 8:00 p.m. Monday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established.
JUNKER, GLADYS MARIE (STEER) was born October 30, 1922 at Greene, Iowa the daughter of Ernest and Augusta (Fick) Steer. She married John Junker January 13, 1944 at Vilmar, Iowa. He preceded her in death December 24, 1973. They farmed for many years then Gladys became employed as a unit secretary at Sartori Memorial Hospital for 16 years. Gladys died Sunday, September 9, 2001 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home at the age of 78 years.
Survivors include her daughter, Juanita Ingles, Waterloo, Iowa; four grandchildren, Donette and Michael Stempien, Jamie Hewitt and Jennifer Shadman; twelve great grandchildren; one brother, Arthur Steere, Windom, Minnesota, and one sister, Ruth Smith, Cedar Falls, Iowa. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, husband; one daughter, Janet Stempien; one grandson, Jason Stempien; and one brother, Herbert Steer.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2001 at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Chapel with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the family.
