MILLER, CATHERINE JO, 88, of Oelwein and formerly of Cedar Falls died Saturday, April 26, 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Oelwein of natural causes. She was born July 27, 1914 at Egg Harbor, Wisconsin the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Hoover) Kroll. She married August "Ed" Miller May 25, 1945 at Brownwood, Texas. Ed preceded her in death January 7, 2001.
Survivors include her son, Tom (Marge) Miller of Hazelton, three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and one sister, Pauline Desmond of Hudson, Iowa. Jo was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Nancy Miller, four brothers, Frank, Al Edward and Peter Kroll, and two sisters, Mary Matzke and Ann Seiler.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Falls with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, New Hartford.
MILLER, HELEN L. , 95, of Waterloo, Iowa, died Monday, August 2, 2004, at Lakeview Lodge in Waterloo. Helen was born August 31, 1908, the daughter of Edwin R. and Blanche G. (Thurston) DuBois in Waterloo, Iowa. She married Marion L. Miller August 24, 1929, at Cedar Falls, Iowa. Helen was director of food services for 12 years at the Cedar Falls Bible Conference and also assisted her husband in his role as recorder of Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Iowa. Helen died Monday, August 2, 2004, at Lakeview Lodge/ Friendship Village, Waterloo, Iowa at 95 years of age.
Helen is survived two daughters, Delores ”Dee” (Roland) Watkins of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Karen (Alan) Orr of Cedar Falls, Iowa; one grandson, Paul R. Watkins of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, Milo DuBois.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 5, 2004, at Friendship Village Chapel in Waterloo, Iowa. Visitation will be 5 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 4, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to Lakeview Lodge, Friendship Village or Cedar Valley Hospice.
MILLER, JEAN C. 84, of Austin, Minnesota and formerly of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Thursday, August 5, 2004 at the Austin Medical Center. She was born April 1, 1920 in Cedar Falls the daughter of Carl W. & M. Viola (Nolte) Miller. Jean graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1937, earned her BA degree from Iowa State Teacher’s College (U.N.I.) and a Master of Music degree from Northwestern University. She taught music in Charles City and Ames then moved to Austin as a string instructor and orchestra conductor. Jean retired from teaching in 1982 after 29 years with the Austin School District. She was a noted cellist, playing with the Iowa State Symphony Orchestra, the Austin Chamber Orchestra and the Austin Symphony Orchestra. Jean was a charter member of the Austin Symphony Orchestra, performing as recently as 1997. Her gentle spirit and abilities as both musician and teacher touched many lives.
Jean is survived by many close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 13, 2004 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to First Congregational Church, Austin Symphony Orchestra, or Sacred Heart Care Center, all of Austin, Minnesota.
MILLER, RUTH HELEN was born June 11, 1918 in Eagle Township, Black Hawk County, Iowa the daughter of Fred and Mary (Frey) Ebaugh. She married Ralph Virgil Miller January 29, 1939 in Waterloo, Iowa. He preceded her in death on May 27, 1982. Ruth graduated from Janesville High School in Janesville, Iowa. She was past Matron of Eastern Star Equity Lodge Chapter #6, Janesville. Ruth died Monday, April 5, 1999 at her home in Evansdale, Iowa at the age of 80 years
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Finger of Elk Run Heights, Iowa and Virginia "Ginny" Peverill of Waterloo, Iowa; her daughter-in-law, Theresa Miller of Cedar Falls, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Penni Sanderson, Ricki and Randi Finger, Angie, Toby and Brian Lawrence, Sheila Hackman and Claude Miller; sixteen great grandchildren, Justin, Adam, Jacob, Zachery and Kelsey Lawrence, Jermaine and Roosevelt Gary, Bill, Brandy and Brittany Sanderson, Ryan, Codi, Jordan and Brianna Finger, and Heather and April Hackman; and her brother, Leland Miller of Denver, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her son Kenneth L. Miller, three brothers, Virgil, Ralph and Marvin Ebaugh and three sisters, Mildred McVey, Edna Petersen and Arlene Briden.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 1999 at First United Methodist Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. A public Eastern Star service was held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Cedar Valley Hospice or the Cancer Treatment Center in Waterloo.
Minikus, Harvey R. was born August 24, 1921 in Cedar Falls, Iowa the son of Louie and Dorothy (Backerman) Minikus. He served in the U. S. Force during WWII. Harvey and Annette Christensen were united in marriage on October 19, 1946 in Waterloo, Iowa. He was employed at Wagner Manufacturing in Cedar Falls until 1958 and was then employed at Waterloo Industries from February 9, 1961 until January 1, 1985.
Survivors include his wife, Annette, of Cedar Falls; three sons, Bob, Dennis, and David, all of Cedar Falls; three daughters, Nancy Heiserman, of Ottumwa, Iowa, Sandra Goings and Debra Niedert, both of Evansdale; thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Harvey was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael Heiserman, two brothers, Roy and Earl Minikus, and one sister, Gladys Minikus.
Funeral services were 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Full military rites were conducted by Cedar Falls AMVETS Post 49. Memorials may be directed to the family.
MINIKUS, JUANITA ROSE was born June 28, 1916 in Eddyville, Iowa the daughter of Edd H. and Nellie Rose (Prince) Campbell. She married Floyd G. Minikus on December 31, 1945 in Waverly, Iowa. He died October 17, 1987. Juanita was in the cafeteria of the Cedar Falls School system for many years retiring in 1987. She died Friday, January 28, 2000 at her home at the age of 83 years.
Survivors include her son, Mickey Minikus of Aurora, Colorado; three daughter, Julia Martindale, Chandler, Arizona, Rosemary Siems and Linda Minikus, both of Cedar Falls, Iowa; ten grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and her brother, Duane Campbell of Sacramento, California.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one brother, Edward Campbell.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 31, 2000 at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to First Christian Church, Cedar Falls, Iowa.
MOHR, GARY E. was born April 5, 1954 in Cedar Falls, Iowa the son of Milo E. and Frances (Butler) Mohr. He graduated from Northern University High School in 1972 and was currently the Owner/Operator of Mohr Auto Repair. Gary died Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City at the age of 48 years.
Survivors include his mother, Frances Mohr, of Cedar Falls and his sister, Michelle Suggs and her husband, Philip Suggs, Sr., also of Cedar Falls. Gary was preceded in death by his father.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2002 at First Presbyterian Church with burial in Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens.
MORGAN, CAPTAIN REX ROTHE, 67, of Cedar Falls died Wednesday, March 24, 1999 at his home of natural causes. He born March 3, 1932 in Urbana, Illinois the son of Clifford E. and Amy P (Rothe) Morgan. He married Natalie A. Handrup June 12, 1954 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Rex graduated from Highland Park High School in Highland Park, Illinois, Received a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering in 1954 from the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut and also graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy New York in 1962. He served in the U. S. Coast Guard in Juno, Alaska, San Francisco, California, Copenhagen, Denmark, London, England, Key West, Florida, New Orleans Louisanna and Cleveland, Ohio. He retired with the rank of Captain in 1984.
Survivors include his wife, Natalie of Cedar Falls, Iowa, his daughter, Sheila Ogsbury and her husband Don of Sarasota, Florida, his son Brad Morgan and his wife Vicki of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, and five grandchildren, Dayton Descant of Bradenton, Florida and Dana,Jill, Scott and Traci Morgan of Buffalo Grove, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Maurita Sandvig.
Memorial Services were 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 29, 1999 at Nazareth Lutheran Church. Private family burial was prior to the memorial service at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls, with full military rites conducted by Cedar Fall Guy W. Iverson AMVETS Post 49. MORRIS, MARJORIE was born January 22, 1922, the daughter of George and Myrtle (Jensen) Holm in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She married Robert E. Morris April 7, 1945 in Waterloo, Iowa. He preceded her in death in March of 1984. Before retirement in 1993 she was a self employed home decorator. Marjorie died, Tuesday, November 19, 2002, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa at the age of 80 years.
Marjorie is survived by one son, Scott Morris of Evansdale, Iowa; three daughters, Linda K. (Robert) Dahlgaard of Waterloo, Iowa, Pamela D. Turner of Evansdale, Iowa and Barbara J. Bloom of Waterloo, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Robert Dahlgaard Jr and Angela R. Dahlgaard, Brian Morris and Sara Wheeler, Lisa Fletcher, Heather Mangrich and Jason Bloom and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two daughters, Tracye Ann and Connie Jean Morris, two brothers, Sterling and Robert Holm.

MORTENSEN, RALPH O. was born on August 20, 1910 in Spencer, Iowa, the son of Martin E. and Inger (Hagedorn) Mortensen. He married Alice S. Petersen on August 25, 1937 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Ralph was a 1923 graduate of Royal High School in Royal, Iowa and attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake and graduated from Iowa State Teachers College (UNI0 in 1931. He began teaching at Cherokee Indian Mission School in Oaks, Oklahoma. Ralph was a superintendent of schools at Quimby, Rolfe, and Alleman, Iowa. He died Sunday, December 21, 2003, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 93 years of age.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Alice, of Cedar Falls; one son, Ivan (Larisa Ibragimova) Mortensen of Spring Lake, Michigan and one daughter, Patricia Bailey of Des Moines, Iowa; and seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, John Mortensen; three brothers, Louis, Edward and Leo Mortensen and two sister, Marie Lee and Ethel Mortensen.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2003, at Nazareth Lutheran Church Chapel, with intermenty at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to the church.
MORTENSON, JANE E. was born May 31, 1951 in Emmetsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Don and Esther (Enger) Fisher. She married Cliff Mortenson in 1975. Jane graduated from Emmetsburg High School and Texas Lutheran University. She was employed by the state of Iowa for many years, her final sixteen years as an Administrative Law Judge. Her declining health required early retirement in 1999. Jane died Tuesday, July 4, 2000 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa, at 49 years of age.
She is survived by two sons, Josh, a student at Central College in Pella, Iowa, and Ross, a student at Cedar Falls High School, and their father, Cliff Mortenson of Cedar Falls; her parents, Don and Esther Fisher of Emmetsburg, Iowa; two brothers and their families, Jim and Bev Fisher of Estherville, Iowa and Monty and Debbie Fisher of Ft. Dodge, Iowa.
Jane was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2000, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Inurnment will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 9, 2000, at High Lake Jack Creek Township Cemetery near Wallingford, Iowa. MUELLER, WILMA L. (Bockhaus) was born August 4, 1913 near Frederika, Iowa, the daughter of August and Louise (Bergman) Bockhaus. She graduated from Frederika High School in 1932. Wilma married Louie E. Mueller June 23, 1935, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. She and Louie farmed in Bremer County forty-two years. They retired in 1977 and moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa. He preceded her in death on November 12, 1997. Wilma died Tuesday, May 27, 2003 at her home in Cedar Falls, Iowa, at the age of 89 years.
Wilma is survived by three daughters, Wanda (Sylvester) Van Hove of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Kendra (Gary) Warner and Lois (Tom) Washington, both of Seattle, Washington; eight grandchildren, Lori Van Hove and Lynelle Stahlhut, Todd and Brad Warner, and Tim, Daniel, Molly and Brian Washington; three great-grandchildren, Benjamin Ness, and Daniel and Lydia Stahlhut; one sister, Vera Warnke of Grinnell, Iowa and one brother, Ray Bockhaus of Cedar Falls, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Leola Wendt; and two brothers, Elmer and Clarence Bockhaus.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2003 at Nazareth Lutheran Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
MULDER, HERMENIA F. was born September 11, 1934 near New Hartford, Iowa, the daughter of Gezinus and Grace (Wildeboer) Mulder. She was a graduate of New Hartford High School. Hermenia worked in the office of the New Hartford Elevator for six years and for Cedar Falls Trust and Savings Bank for over 32 years, retiring in 1992. She was a member of New Hartford United Methodist Church, serving as its secretary, organist and worship chairperson. She also served on the church’s Administrative Board and was the treasurer for the sunday school and memorial fund. Hermenia died Saturday, September 22, 2001, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa, at 67 years of age.
She is survived by her two brothers, George of Waverly, Iowa and Oscar of Waterloo; fourteen nieces and nephews and twenty-three great-nieces and great-nephews.
Hermenia was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Herman and John Mulder, and two sisters, Gertrude Mulder and Grace Alberts.
Services were 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2001 at the New Hartford United Methodist Church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg. A memorial fund will be established.
MULDER, MINNIE, Parkersburg, was born May 21, 1904 near Austinville, Iowa, the daughter of Folkert and Haukie (Rieken) Alberts. She married William Mulder on January 4, 1928, at the Little Brown Church, near Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 22, 1982. Minnie was saved in her farm home near Allison, while reading Romans 10:8-10, when God revealed the truth to her that Christ died for her. She was in fellowship in the Stout Gospel Hall. Minnie died Tuesday, November 16, 1999, at the Allison Health Care Center in Allison, Iowa, at 95 years of age.
She is survived by her son, Arthur Mulder and his wife Darlene, of Grundy Center, Iowa; her three daughters, Bernice DeGroote and her husband Harlan, of Parkersburg, Iowa, Ilene Shaw and her husband John, of Waterloo, Iowa, and DeAnne Meester of Parkersburg; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Bessie Alberts of Allison.
Minnie was preceded in death by her husband and parents; a son, Larry W. Mulder; a sister, Alberta Sluiter; and four brothers, Jake, John, Folkert and Harm Alberts.
Funeral services were 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 19, 1999, at the Stout Gospel Hall in Stout, Iowa. Interment was at Hitesville Cemetery near Aplington, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the family.
