MURRAY, MARIE YVONNE was born June 2, 1927 in Greene, Iowa, the daughter of John E. “Jack” and Annie L. (Barth) Dorman. She married Rollin Earl Murray on August 27, 1949 in Maryville, Missouri. He preceded her in death on July 21, 1979. Marie was a 1945 graduate of Janesville High School and worked in the Plant Services Department at the University of Northern Iowa for 13 years, retiring in 1993. She died Monday, June 3, 2002, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa, at 75 years of age.
Marie is survived by her children, Charlene Hughes of Dunkerton, Iowa, Richard and David Murray, both of Waterloo, and Pam Eckhoff, Janet Murray, Jolene Whitcomb and John Murray, all of Cedar Falls, Iowa; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a brother, Harold Dorman and three sisters, Marcella Carlson, Vesta Warrick and Marie’s twin sister, Mary Lou Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; a daughter, Donna Jean Murray and a brother, Percy Dorman.
Memorial services were 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with inurnment at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls. There will be no visitation, her body was cremated. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Bend Humane Society, Waterloo, Iowa.

MYERS, JOHN C., 62, of 602 Eleventh St. in Charles City, Iowa, was born April 26, 1937 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of John H. and Charleen (Duckett) Myers. He married Marlene Neelans on July 21, 1956 in Waterloo, Iowa, they were later divorced. John was employed by the City of Cedar Falls and Schultz Manufacturing in Waterloo. He died Friday, December 31, 1999, at Floyd County Hospital in Charles City, Iowa, at 62 years of age.
John is survived by two daughters, Pamela Cordes and Tammy Jo Gram, both of Waterloo; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sarah “Sally” Ver Steeg of Cedar Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, John R. Myers; and three brothers, Lee D., Thomas, and Clyde Myers.
Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 5, 2000, at the funeral home, with burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens, both in Cedar Falls.

MYTHALER, PAMELA SUE , 59, of Jacksonville, Florida and formerly of Cedar Falls, died at home Thursday, January 15, 2004. Pam Mythaler, a wonderful wife of 40 years, was born in Waterloo, Iowa. She raised three daughters (Tami, Jodi and Marci) and has 7 grandchildren who are dear to her heart. Pam is also survived by her mother, Betty Strumpel of Waterloo and her sister, Kathy Thompson of Cedar Falls, Iowa. Her favorite joys in life were times spent with her family and friends.
While living in Seattle, Washington, she owned a hair salon for 10 years, and she and Ron were presenters in Marriage Encounter for 7 years. She moved to Jacksonville with Ron in 1990 where they soon joined Deermeadows Baptist Church. Pam became a Bible Study Fellowship leader and loved the opportunity to learn and grow in God’s Word. She truly cherished the friendships she made.
Pam always wore a smile and personified God’s love and grace to others. She taught us to enjoy every minute of every day and to make the very best of every situation. She left us with a verse to commemorate her life; “I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7
Graveside committal services were 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2004, at Memorial Park Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or Hospice.

NELSON, MARCIA JEAN was born January 26, 1935, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Leona (Watson) Owen. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School and East High School in Waterloo. Marcia married Theodore C. Nelson on October 20, 1973 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Waterloo. She was a waitress and later the manager of the Sky Room at Black’s Department Store for 15 years, and was a waitress at Happy Chef for 4 years, retiring in 1983. Marcia was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls and the Eagles Auxillary in Waterloo. She enjoyed being outdoors, especially in her garden, and helped her husband Theodore with the farming and their livestock. Marcia died Sunday, January 14, 2001, at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls, at 65 years of age.
She is survived by her husband Theodore, of Cedar Falls; her son, James Compton of Gower, Missouri; a step-daughter, Kimberly Bergman and a step-son, Steven Nelson, both of Cedar Falls; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Arthur Owen of Jesup, Iowa, Michael Owen of St. Croix, Wisconsin and David Owen of Evansdale, Iowa and two sisters, Patricia Lillard of Waco, Texas and Colleen Rice of Waterloo.
Marcia was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, James and Robert Owen and two sisters, Mary Spore and Donna Dietz.
Funeral services were10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2001, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, with burial at Garden of Memories in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to Sartori Skilled Nursing and Cedar Valley Hospice.

NEPTUNE, H. ROBERT “BOB” 82, of Waterloo died Saturday, August 21,2004 at Allen Memorial Hospital. He was born August 23, 1921 at Decatur, Indiana the son of Kenneth S. & Della May (Dellinger) Neptune. Bob was a paratrooper in the U. S. Army during WWII serving with the 17th Airborne. On November 6, 1945 he was united in marriage to Mary E. Cowan in Alliance, Nebraska. He was owner and operator of Neptune’s Family Car Wash from 1965 to 1983.
Survivors include his wife, Mary, of Waterloo; three sons, Kenneth (JoDee) Neptune of Cedar Falls, David (Lori) Neptune of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Robert Jay Neptune of Waterloo, six grandchildren and one great grandson. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Theresa A. Merrill.
Memorial services were 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2004 at Nazareth Lutheran Church. A memorial fund will be established.

NEWMAN, HELEN H., was born January 22, 1908 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the daughter of LeClair and Mary (Kinne) Martin. She married George F. Newman on June 28, 1937 in Cedar Falls. He preceded her in death on December 29, 1988. Helen attended Iowa State Teachers College for three years and later graduated from Gates Business College. She was a secretary in Chicago for two years and also worked in the business office at Iowa State Teachers College for many years. Helen was a life-long member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and was a member of the Woman’s Club, the Nineteenth Century Club and P.E.O. She was also a scout leader and PTA member. Helen died February 16, 1999 in Tempe, Arizona at 91 years of age.
She is survived by her two sons, James M. Newman of Santa Cruz, California and Peter S. Newman of Eugene, Oregon; three grandchildren, Jenine, Ben and Bryan Newman, all of Eugene, Oregon and her sister, Esther M. Andrews of Pacific Palisades, California.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband and parents; a brother, Edward K. Martin and two sisters, Mary Grace Hetzler and Jeanne Clair Hague.
Memorial services were 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 5, 1999 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, with private inurnment at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. Memorials may be directed to St. Luke's Building Fund or the Iowa College Foundation.

NEWTON, RUBY GOODING, 87, of 7511 University Ave. in Cedar Falls and formerly of Kenansville, North Carolina, died Tuesday, December 5, 2000, at the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home after a lengthy illness. She was born October 17, 1913, in Kinston, North Carolina, the daughter of Stephen and Theresa (Oglesby) Gooding. Ruby attended Flora McDonald College in Red Springs, North Carolina. She married Enoch Alton Newton in Kinston. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1976. Ruby was a member of the Kenansville Methodist Church, the Woman’s Missionary Society, the Eastern Star and the Kenansville Gardening Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Sally Morrow of Cedar Falls, Iowa; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and husband; a daughter, Gail Martin; one grandchild; three brothers and three sisters.
Graveside committal services were 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 9 at Golden Grove Cemetery in Kenansville, North Carolina. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home.

NEYMEYER, BENJAMIN A. , 91, of Waterloo died Saturday, December 27, 2003 at the Cedar Falls Health Care Center. He was born October 19, 1912 in Grundy County, Iowa the son of Charley & Marion (Folkers) Neymeyer. He married Gertrude Mennen October 7, 1937 in the parsonage of West Friesland Presbyterian Church at rural Ackley, Iowa. He farmed in rural Ackley then worked for John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works retiring in 1974.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude, of Waterloo; two daughters, Marcene (Frank) Fazio of Dubuque, Iowa, Darla (William) Johnson of Rockford, Illinois; fifteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, two sisters, Leola Kuper of Ackley and Lucile Murra of Greenfield, Iowa and one brother, Harvey (Margaret) Muller of Iowa Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Sherryl Eilderts on February 25, 2003, three grandchildren and one brother, Merle Muller.
Services were 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at Westminster Presbyterian Church with burial at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at West Friesland Presbyterian Church Cemetery, rural Ackley, Iowa. A memorial fund will be established.

NICHOLSON, DEAN CURTIS "NICK" was born November 25, 1927 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Aubrey Ellsworth and Lucile Mary (Billings) Nicholson. He was a graduate of Waterloo East High School and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve during WW II. Nick married Doris Elaine Wilson on September 16, 1962 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waterloo. He was a switchman with the Illinois Central Railroad for 34 years, retiring in 1989. Nick was past president of the Hammond Organ Club, a member of the Cedar Valley Model Railroad Club and a lifetime member of the Illinois Central Historical Society. He died at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo at 70 years of age.
Nick is survived by his wife Doris of Cedar Falls, Iowa; his three daughters, Robin Lynne Nicholson of Cedar Falls, Deanna Elaine Nicholson Condon of Rogers, Minnesota and Mary June Nicholson of Norfolk, Virginia; two sisters, Naomi May Fleiter of Riverside, California and Fonda Mae Eckenrod of Waterloo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Gordon, John, Francis and Ellsworth Nicholson and two sisters, Fern Agnew and Evelyn Nicholson.
Services were held September 26, 1998 at the funeral home with private burial at a later date. Memorials were directed to the family.

NICHOLSON, NATHANIAL ANDREW "NATE" , 22, of Cedar Falls, died from injuries received in a motorcycle accident on Wednesday, July 7, 2004, in Flint, Michigan. He was born July 6, 1982 in Cedar Falls, Iowa the son of Tom & Tammy (Nauman) Nicholson. Nate graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 2000 and was currently attending Kettering University in Flint, Michigan studying mechanical engineering and serving his internship with Federal-Mogul Corporation. He was a member of Boy Scouts Troop 55 where he became an Eagle scout and was also a member of Theta Xi Fraternity at Kettering University.
Survivors include his parents, Tom & Tammy Nicholson of Cedar Falls; his brother, Zeb Nicholson of Iowa City, Iowa; two sisters, Abi Nicholson of Cedar Falls and Jo Nicholson of Davenport; and his maternal grandparents, Ernest & Jane Nauman of Cedar Falls. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John & Marita Nicholson.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at Faith Lutheran Church in Waterloo with burial at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established.

NICKLAUS, CARLYLE "NICK" , 66, of Hudson, Iowa, died of cancer on Sunday, August 1, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa. He was born August 5, 1937 in Bremer County, Iowa, the son Andrew and Melinda (Sauerbrei) Nicklaus. Nick married Joanne Wulf on October 7, 1962 at Hudson. He served with the U.S. Army at Fairbainks, Alaska from 1960-62 and was the Agronomy Manager at East Central Iowa Coop in Hudson for over 30 years, semi-retiring in 2002. Nick served on the Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Board and was on the Advisory Board at Hawkeye Technical School ( Hawkeye Inst. of Technology). He was an Honorary Chapter Farmer in the FFA and was a member of the Hudson AMVETS Post 82. Nick served numerous positions at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Hudson and worked on the chain gang at Hudson High School football games.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne, of Hudson; a daughter, Teri (John) Neil of Independence, Iowa and a son, Todd (Amy) Nicklaus of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Paige, Kate and Jack Nicklaus; two brothers, Andy Nicklaus of Kellogg, Iowa and Leon (Mary) Nicklaus of Sumner, Iowa; five sisters, Darlene (Allen) Boedecker of Rockwell City, Iowa, Dorothy (Ray) Wehling of Sumner, Karla Nicklaus of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Janice (Jay) Schweer of Davenport, Iowa and Linda Neidert of Sumner; his mother-in-law, Bernice Wulf of Reinbeck, Iowa and two brothers-in-law, Fredrick (Beverly) Wulf and Lyle (Diann) Wulf, all of Hudson.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Velma Schnor and his father-in-law, Freddie Wulf.
Funeral services were 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 4, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls under the auspices of Zion Lutheran Church, rural Hudson. Interment will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in rural Hudson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Nick Nicklaus Memorial Agricultural Scholarship Fund.

NIELSEN, BERNARDINE ANN was born March 8, 1937, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Merle A. and Helene A. Neuhalfen. She married Donald L. Nielsen June 18, 1955 at Cedar Falls, Iowa. Bernie worked for Congdon Printing for many years and later for Woolverton Printing. She was well known for her great peanut brittle and for her beautiful craft work. Bernie died Saturday, August 24, 2002 at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, Iowa at the age of 65 years.
Bernie is survived by her husband, Don of Cedar Falls; four sons, Tim (Rochelle) of Janesville, Mike of Cedar Falls, Jeff (Julie) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Tony of Waterloo; one daughter, Christine (Steve) of Hudson; eight grandchildren, Madison, Nickolas, Shayla, Brittany, Sterling, Chandler, Shane and Mandy; four great grandchildren, Jackie, Billie, Tyler and Alyssa; five brothers, Donald (Jo Ann) Heath, Ida Grove, Iowa, Richard (Anna Mae) Heath, Joseph (Janice) Heath, Leo ( Sandy) and James (Teresa) Heath all of Cedar Falls; three sisters, Marlene (Jerry) Jeys of Waterloo, Connie (Jim) Taylor of Cedar Falls, and Phyllis (Quinton) Lane of Janesville.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Kenneth Heath.
Funeral services were 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2002, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, with burial at Hillside Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls. A memorial fund will be established.

NIELSEN, LAVAUN "BONNIE" ALICE was born September 28, 1930 at Shiply, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Velma (Robertson) Fines. She married Eugene N. Nielsen on August 23, 1952 at El Paso, Texas. Bonnie was the owner of the Family Tree Craft Shop, now Bonnie’s Gifts, in Dike, Iowa. She died Wednesday, January 15, 2003, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa, at 72 years of age.
Bonnie is survived by her husband, Eugene N. Nielsen, of Dike; two sons, Chris Nielsen of Dike and Neal Nielsen of Chesterfield, Michigan; two daughters, Darlene (Charles) Melick of Port Huron, Michigan and Cindy (Bernard) Weber of Dike; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepfather, Harry E. Boleyn.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 20, 2003, at Fredsville Lutheran Church in rural Cedar Falls, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 19, at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Interment will be at Fredsville Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or Fredsville Lutheran Church.
